View Full Version : SGOTM01 - Trash Talking Thread - No Spoilers

As requested by ChrTh - here is where we can all trash talk the other teams. Just remember, this thread is about talking the opponents down, your team up and NOT, repeat, NOT about the actual game.

BTW - For you lurkers out there, Chaos will be the most fun thread to watch (if you can stand the chaotic nature of it)!

Nah, chaos team will be just that, chaotic. How can you have fun with everything in chaos?

OTOTH, look at VQ (by the way, let's get this straight, it stands for VQ-team will barbeQue all your a$$), we are already at pg 6. What could be more fun?

Vainly Quixotic at pg 6? Of course. Idiots, lacking qualitative thought, will always resort to long-winded babble.

ChrTh: "What do you want to research?"
Fox: "I don't know, those hills sure are pretty."
Maquis: "Wish I had cows in my backyard."

Keep it going, guys. Wooden spoon can't be far off.

That's masculine. An attribute one hasn't ever heard of being awarded to those VQ-sissies...

Boasting for being on page 6 but can't endure the smell of success. You won't have to for long time because you'll bite the dust on page 8 anyway. Sissies are Huyana's most favored breakfast.

bah. I think that all of this SGOTM is a bad idea because its drawing all the attention from the normal SG's to those.
In addition, it has a lack of creativity because everyone are playing the same game. If every month there will be a new SGOTM it will harm the normal SG's.
Just my thoughts.:crazyeye:

Hey Imhotep, I don't think Munterpipe is on Victory Questionable (He's the Chaos captain, right?). Good thing the sissy part fits anyway.

You clearly under-estimate the power of organization and cunning planning by some brilliant minds as we have on our team. You think we can't do worse than the Chaos-Jerks if we want to, eh ? Hah, you'll see, buddy, you'll see...We'll surprise ya all with the best laid plans of mice and men, that would have almost netted us the victory by two turns. This will be fun to show all you nerds how losing is really meant to be !

In case of the Vile Quacks (not to be confused with Qwack, the honorable and valiant member of the Queen's sturdy Men) I guess it will be a task too hard even for a Grandmaster of Chaos - you can't disrupt what ain't there...

Oh, I get it! Creativity! Frankly, until I read: "waa waa whine pushover gave our cities away!" and "whimper waa whine no religion," I guess I had completely misunderstood creativity.

Here I was thinking it had something to do with clever, imaginative thought processes. Now I see that "creativity" is really just an endless stream of mindless drivel.

Wow! Chaos SG is sooooo much more enjoyable now!

Do we necessarily want another war, though? Perhaps we should work on getting the circum bonus? Or do we not want to waste our UU by sitting still?

I was referring specificly to the 'VQ' phrases that people had come up with. Of course, those who did a little research could've used what VQ actually stands for better jokes, but again, dearth of creativity.

And, of course, at no point did I claim I was being creative.

When the student is ready, the master will appear. As I am already here--and am in no way shape or form a master--you are not ready. Too bad for your team, I guess.

EDIT: And believe me, you could've found much worse questions of mine. That one is actually nigh-competent.

What ? There is a better joke than the VQ Team itself ? And it seems that logic is not one of your major abilities either: Your incompetence proves nothing against my readiness, it is absolutely possible that you not feeling like a master has only to do with you never being one instead of me not being ready. It's tragic, Chaos spoiled his mind...

Ok, see, Verily Quiescent is funny. But right now we're suffering from 'ganging up on one team fatigue' ... when are we going to start mocking Fifth Element? I figured that would be a natural.

The one thing that hurts this concept is that we can't read each other's threads. I guess we can mock based on the graphs? Oh, right--there's the writeup section. That should get this thread jumping after the first one. Until then I think I'll bow out ... if I wanted this much abuse, I'd spend time with my wife instead of playing Civ4.

It's nothing to do with me ... except as a moderator. As a moderator I will close it forthwith if there is any spoiler information posted in it, or if it becomes a pure spam-fest, or if it strays from the paths of righteousness as laid down by Thunderfall in the Great Forum Rule Book.

Guess we have been warned. I think this thread will push the bounds of good taste sometimes but (hopefully) it will remain in good fun and contain quick wit comments and the like.

Here are the relevant rules ...
Spam is not tolerated - Spam is considered posting topics or messages on our forums that contain no point, relevance, or contain subject matter that doesn't directly allow other member participation. Topics directed to a particular user, posting several times consecutively as an appendage to ONE post, and posts in threads that have NOTHING to do with the subject matter are all considered spam and will be deleted on sight. Contributing to/or intentionally posting spam will not be tolerated.

Behave as you would in a public location - This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being. If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

Your rights to Freedom of Speech don't apply here - You are welcome to have opinions. You are welcome to question certain subject matter posted on these forums. How does one differentiate on-topic from off in this thread?

I assume this is the equivalent of the nineteenth hole on a golf course, where you foregather to reminisce on past glories and old friends, and to make new acquaintances.

However, the one topic that has brought you all to this place and time is CIV SGOTM 01, and that is strictly a non-topic outside of the official spoilers that don't exist yet. So.... I look forward with interest to seeing how you will succeed in identifying a topic to be "off".

bobrath

AlanH
May 12, 2006, 08:23 AM
off which topic?

ChrTh
May 12, 2006, 08:28 AM
It's really a philosophical discussion, like can God create a boulder he can't lift? If the on-topic can not be discussed, does that make everything that would be off-topic actually on-topic? If the on-topic is off-limits and thus off-topic, the off-topic could be on-limits and thus on-topic.

We at RB are so damn good at the game we don't even need to post in our thread, just pass the saves along without discussion. The posts are all hilarious jokes which you lot aren't allowed to read. So nyah!

It seems I live in a make believe world,
Inside a cage I created with words,
A place where sinew is the fabric of time,
And the sky is drawn by skeleton birds,
I live in a place that doesn’t seem to exist,
Where people never relent with my screams,
A tomb of negative energy I have built,
From the twisted visions in my dreams,
Trapped in a cage of anger and fury,
The bars buckle under sympathy and distress,
Guarded by blood red hounds of hell,
Which melt to and from the darkness,
My eyes alone hold the story of a pain,
I cannot even begin to voice,
Disguised in a human skin,
In this world devoid of free choice,
I have locked myself deep inside,
A solitary component surrounded by empty space,
Nothing can reach me now,
I am hidden behind a glass face,
Even my thoughts are not my own,
I cannot seem to sleep at night,
In fear of dangers that lurk within me,
Obscured from my sight,
But from within my warped prison,
I see the truths of days gone by,
I can experience the pain of life,
And then long eternally to die,
None can understand for I never let them in,
I block out all emotion and blank them from my mind,
Nothing will ever stop me now,
I will move forward and leave everyone behind,
There are people, who try to get in,
They ask strange questions which I cannot comprehend,
They make my cage of words tighter,
And make me hunger for the end,
Eventually they back off and I am left alone,
No one bothers me anymore I have peace at last,
I have finally realised I am not alone,
We are doomed, damned and outcast

Then finally, maybe, some of the lurkers would have no choice but to go read the more uninteresting threads of yours, and maybe then you can get 5-digit views as well.

Digging further into the VQ views - i see that GF has a view every 2 minutes. Well, that invalidates 8000 of the views. It is probably better to calculate views per post. I thing Rhelms Beyond would win that (that is the thread that I would be lurking it - if I was allowed).

Somebody told them that it's first to the finish line that wins. Shhhh... don't spoil the joke.

From the SGOTM01 page (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/civ4sgotm_submission_list.php):

When the current game is finished you will see the following awards in the Rank column.

The Gold Laurels are awarded to the team with the fastest finish
The Wooden Spoons are awarded to the team with the lowest score.

I think you are correct, Peon.

--

View per post is not an accurate measure either. Since the lightning speed at which VQers are posting tons of brilliant strategy, lurkers do not have the ample time to register each view. So it is likely that RB has actually half the number of lurkers, just that they have so little strategy to talk about that they on ave each lurker reads 1 post per view, whereas for VQ, each lurker reads 10 posts per view.

but we're only about 50% RBers.
So you are actually not Realms Beyond ... but Realms Beneath ...

So 300 years is 100 turns. Happy catching up, tortise. Its not everyday that the tortise will win against the rabbit, you know!

There has been some talk on the 'maintenance' thread about lurkers (unintentially) giving away information to help teams. After reviewing the thread logs, I see that most teams have a large number of lurkers (read helpers) as they obviously need all the lurk (help) they can get.

NO. We aren't trying to encourage fast play at the expense of care and planning. I've no doubt a team could play the game in a few hours - if only by having one or two players take it through to completion. But what does that tell us about that team?

Let's be fair, though: that's not what VQ (or Team One, for that matter) is doing (although, of course, I'm only guessing about Team One based on my experience with the players in said team, not because I've done anything against the rules. honest). There's definitely the possibility of too much care and planning. It's called the Democracy Game. Unless TPTB expect us to agonize over every worker move, I don't see why a team can't move fast if the players are sufficiently organized to do so. It's like I said earlier, I for one don't savor waiting 72 hours for a player to request a skip.

Play it however you like, within the competition rules. Just don't expect a reward from TPTB for real time speed. There are many human pursuits that are more enjoyable when not rushed. Think of this as one of them :mischief:

There's a difference between rushing the turn itself, and rushing between turns. I can't speak for all of my team members, but I for one am spending plenty of time when I'm playing. Again, if you enjoy sitting around twiddling your thumbs, more power to you.

Of course, since we're moving faster through the roster, each of us get more game-playing goodness on a time basis. I pity those who have to wait weeks between turns. That way lies madness.

EDIT: I find it particularly funny that anyone would criticize team VQ just because we're moving fast. We have more than twice as many posts as any other team. We're obviously collaborating and discussing -- and thus having fun. I guess AlanH would prefer we have only completed half as many turns with one-tenth the number of posts

a) make fun of other teams
b) defend our poor choices.

To each his own. I for one really enjoy the pace that the VQ team, and I think the others on the team enjoy it also. I know that if the team I was on were still in the BC's (as some are!) I would be [pissed] that the game is going too slow. I am very satisfied with how my team has played the game, had some great discussions, (strategy and otherwise) been competitive, and I have had fun so far. I will not be disappointed if we do not win the laurels..

Again, to each his own.

It's no different than the "vanilla" GOTM. There are some players that play it and finish in the matter of a couple days (if not mere hours) while others drag along the entire month, and still may not finish.

I'm not going to say that the person that played and finished in two days did not savor or enjoy his game. There are players who enjoy playing both ways. I also have played GOTMs as a challenge, and have not won any awards. That does not upset me.

Rex Tyrannus
Jun 07, 2006, 10:08 AM
I suppose (to keep it off-topic) I agree with Maquis and others. My game is progressing slower than I'd like. I'm not mad at any of my teammates--I'm part of the reason we're slow--but I'd like to move a little quicker.

That said, Civ shouldn't be a race in real-time. Each player has his own time budget. To encourage/discourage any particular real-time goals would invariably alienate a certain group of players from what is supposed to be a community event.
