View Full Version : Irc
croxis May 16, 2006, 06:13 PM We are going to need an IRC room to conduct real time chats. Two actually - one will be a password protect room for our members only, and the other would be a public room for embassy stuff. IRC server is irc.irc-chat.net and #civfanatics is the main channel for those who don't know. I can maintain both if needed.
And on a random topic will this be traditional PBEM or will it be pitboss?
BCLG100 May 16, 2006, 07:01 PM i think we have to decide that when they post it at the UN
croxis May 16, 2006, 07:24 PM what do you mean?
Sweetacshon May 16, 2006, 08:09 PM He means another poll.

where do we get this irc room from
classical_hero May 17, 2006, 08:17 AM We could easily chat to each other via other sources. I would actually prefer to chat via either AIm or MSN.
RegentMan May 17, 2006, 08:48 AM I have MSN, but could do IRC if it was necessary.
Karl Townsend May 17, 2006, 11:46 AM so someone tell me wtf is irc
croxis May 17, 2006, 02:12 PM IRC stands for internet relay chat - visit the chatroom for this site as an example. The reason why i suggest IRC is that the room will always be avalable, the ops will have far more control over what goes on in the room and who can access it, and you will have access to my wonderful quote script! It worked really well for the Civ3 MSDG.

BCLG100 May 17, 2006, 04:13 PM what do you mean?
rik or dave or one of them will bring up the topic sometime, at which time RM will then post a poll, we'll all vote and maybe in a few months the game can start!
croxis May 17, 2006, 09:41 PM Setting up a chatroom takes a poll? There really wont be a need of one until some more heavy stuff like prepping a constitution but we seriously don't need to vote for everything. Will we have to vote what the password is? If its hidden or not?
Anyways its made. chan is #cfc_isdg, hidden, and password protected with the current password of test.
classical_hero May 18, 2006, 04:18 AM We could do the same thing via MSN. Chatting through that is very similar to IRC. That way we do not need to set up a dedicated IRC channel. Having all us put our MSN addresses up will help in getting chats up and ready. I can chat in any of the five major chat arenas. I have AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, and IRC accounts. I also have X fire, if that counts.
RegentMan May 18, 2006, 08:55 AM MSN or IRC for me.
Karl Townsend May 18, 2006, 01:04 PM id rather msn
Kuningas May 18, 2006, 01:53 PM I prefer IRC. You can't msn with Linux
BCLG100 May 18, 2006, 02:28 PM Well we could do a bit of both really :)
Karl Townsend May 18, 2006, 03:01 PM poll?
shalle we?
Emp.Napoleon May 18, 2006, 10:00 PM MSN and AIM are the best, and secure.
croxis May 18, 2006, 10:28 PM can msn and aim have multiple ops? we will have a hard time with embassies if we require other teams to have to down load a client. With IRC we can just direct them to use the sites java chat. And how is IRC not secure?
CivGeneral May 22, 2006, 02:21 PM I actualy dont use MSN anymore
The 777 Hoax May 22, 2006, 05:19 PM The only IM account I have is Yahoo. IRC sounds fine to me.
classical_hero May 28, 2006, 12:36 AM I prefer IRC. You can't msn with Linux
Have you tried a mutliple platform chat tool? I am just wondering if this might help you. I use Trillian for my chats, so that could be helpful for you.
croxis May 28, 2006, 07:54 PM Trillian isn't avalable for linux, and the alternative chat tools arn't always happy with chat.
classical_hero May 29, 2006, 08:52 AM Thanks for that. I do not know Linux that well.
croxis May 29, 2006, 01:22 PM There are several options, but the only one I am familar with for linux is gaim
