How long will it take to produce a Buddhist temple? I'm thinking we should get one of those out of the door after the worker but before we start work on a settler.

Karl Townsend
May 22, 2006, 03:00 AM
i say after we resherch fishing
we go for a work boat then we can harvest the sea get thoese crabs then start a settler becasue we can get that much faster with the crabs

a settler would go over to the gold then we startmining it boasting our reserch

for when the workers done we could start a budda temple then the turn after go on to a settler
then when we go back to it we already got a turn complted on it

Right so you're saying that we should next build a workboat, then start a Buddhist temple, but before it's finished, we should change production to a settler?

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on our next tech?

Given that we were the first to Buddhism and no-one's founded Hinduism yet, I want to go for Priesthood and The Oracle.

we would go for preist hood then choprush our way to the oracle
then get a free tech

what i ussaly get is metal casting so i can build a forge

Has anyone got any thoughts on our build queue at SL?

King Flevance
May 24, 2006, 05:14 PM
I like the idea of starting a buddhist temple after the worker pops out. Then as soon as fishing is done, switch to a work boat. once it pops out, settler. (farm will be done - if not wait for corn farm to be done and crabs to be harvested before swapping to settler.) This whole time working on the Buddhist temple in the background. Once settler is done, finish the temple.

I'm worried that we'll fall behind in the real-estate and therefore production (esp. for the wonders) race, which is why I support Flevance's plan although I want a settler before a fishing boat but after we've increased in population again.

We may be able to calculate the turns to see if we can get a boat out of the deal or not. If not I am ok with skipping the boat for now. Heck, if we want we can go queue crazy as to not misuse a turn.

Queue:
Buddhist Monastary (x)

Fishing researched

Queue:
Work Boat (x)
Buddhist Monastary (x)

Population increase

Queue:
Settler (x)
Work Boat (x)
Buddhist Monastary (x)

Then just ride it out.

Given that we were the first to Buddhism and no-one's founded Hinduism yet, I want to go for Priesthood and The Oracle.

Does anyone have any idea as to a map location you see as better than another to build this?

LOL, they ran far away from those lions.

Great plan except that temples can only be built with The Priesthood. What we can build is a monastery.

ranathari
May 25, 2006, 04:03 PM
Wait until we've gained another population point first. If we go worker-settler then we're going to let SL stagnate. Hence the plan to get a temple^H^H monastery going first to allow SL to grow.

What should we research next? The Priesthood?
Should our build queue be based on KF's idea?

Urgent: What should we research next?

The Situation with Alpha Wolf is looking bad so I'm making a withdrawal from the north and heading south instead. It's not too big of a problem as the North was looking poor anyway.

For the SL build queue, I hope to follow KF's plan.

If anyone has objections, please tell me.

King Flevance

I will second bronze working.

Other good choices:
1) Wheel - gives us trade route capabilities. Also, leads us to pottery for cottages/granaries.
2) Hunting - Leads to archers.
3) Priesthood - Access to the oracle/temples. Temples alone willhelp us beat early population caps.
4) Masonry - Pyramids/Great Lighthouse.

I disagree about heading south with alpha wolf. If we bring him back, we will probably never send another exploratory unit up there. We need to know what is there. It looks like people want bronze working for tech.

Unless the lions go away, the minute he stops he'll get attacked with only a 1 in 200 chance of winning.

If we follow KF's queue, I guess we have enough time to research both Bronze Working and Priesthood before actually starting to build The Oracle? Could anyone look that one up. :)

To revive what I stated in my earlier post, what's the plan for the worker after the farm is finished? I'm thinking: Mine on Hill/Grassland, One cottage on a grassland, chopping 2 trees and then heading for the second city site..

Maybe build the other mine too, depending on how the build queue will look. If we build that second mine, I think we should chopp that forest outside of SL's usage-range too before going back to build cottages.

King Flevance
May 29, 2006, 10:56 AM
Mine on the Hill/Grassland is a good idea. The problem is though that we cant build cottages yet. Or chop. So farming will take 5 turns and a mine, about the same. Then we have a worker that cant chop (will have a few more turns left on Bronze Working) and cant build cottages, or roads. We can farm and mine only currently.

Alot are still absent I think. Some may have even dropped off since the initial signing up, as it took us a while to get started. IIRC, we only started with half of our members saying they were present. Others may feel they have not much to add. Although, I would suggest to anyone that has an idea to definatley express themselves.

I also have not had any previous experience in MTDGs or even DGs in general. I have played online enough to know that players are very aggressive and will declare war in a heartbeat, sometimes even to simply come in your borders and pillage while they scout. This is why I am a fan of the production city being built first as I think it would be smart to make a small army for a "just in case" scenario of being invaded. Nothing too overwhelming though. Some spearmen and a few axemen would be comforting though.
