View Full Version : New Unit: Aztec Knight (May 25, 2006)
utahjazz7 May 25, 2006, 02:25 PM Finally, after a two-month long struggle, this unit is finally completed. The model was constructed once, and half of the animations were completed. Then, my hard drive broke and I lost all my data. So, I had to really start over from scratch: reinstalling Poser, downloading my and Kinboat's figures and props again, etc. And now, the unit has been reconstructed--better than originally . . .
So, before I become so sick of this unit that I don't want to post it, here is the Aztec Knight. I know that this has been a highly requested unit in the past, so I hope that I don't disappoint anyone with it. I tried to stay more or less truthful to Kal-el's conceptual drawing, but I made some changes like the shield pattern, weapon, and armor. Hopefully, everyone will approve of the alterations.
I'm pretty happy with the unit, I'd have to say. I hope you all enjoy it too. It's been almost three months since my last unit, so I hope that I didn't make any mistakes with the palettes or image sizes; I have to admit to feeling a little rusty. :)

Stormrage May 25, 2006, 02:38 PM Aztec Knight! Yo! :p

Virote_Considon May 25, 2006, 02:45 PM Now, that's a nice unit! I like the weapon a lot!
Traianus May 25, 2006, 03:35 PM Brilliant. When I do eventually restart the Aztec mod he will be the star of the Mixton War!
ShiroKobbure May 25, 2006, 03:36 PM looks great!
Lord Malbeth May 25, 2006, 03:52 PM Is this some sort of 'fantasy' unit (no offense). If memory serves me, I thought that the Aztecs never had horses.
Great unit though.
Spacer One May 25, 2006, 03:53 PM Bladow!!...that is one sweet unit...worth all the trouble IMO...thanx Utah
Goldflash May 25, 2006, 03:55 PM Put it in the Contest! Put it in the Contest! Wooo! Wait Till Swogmiester sees it!
Darque May 25, 2006, 05:17 PM I like it...plan on using it in Dragonia ;)
LizardmenRule! May 25, 2006, 05:34 PM Is this some sort of 'fantasy' unit (no offense). If memory serves me, I thought that the Aztecs never had horses.
It is a "what if" unit, and a flavour unit for the Aztecs so they dont have armoured european knights running around :) AFAIK
very well done, utah. very well done indeed
BadKharma May 25, 2006, 06:06 PM Absolutely brilliant and a unit that has been needed for a long time! I especially like the attention to detail (morphing the covering on the horse so it moves dynamically in the animation).
W.i.n.t.e.r May 25, 2006, 07:23 PM KEWL STUFF, UTAHJAZZ :) I love the horse armor
hey, someone oughta call Kal-El :D
Ares de Borg May 25, 2006, 07:25 PM I have no use for it (sadly!) but it looks GREAT! The armor is fantastic, please make some historical units with that feature. ;)
Orthanc May 25, 2006, 09:04 PM This is very good, animations flow great, the thick blade on the sword is neat. Good work!
Plotinus May 26, 2006, 03:35 AM Great unit. I too like the way the barding moves with the horse's legs. In fact this unit is full of nice little details like that. Top-notch work!

I remember this coming up before. It actually does have a place in history - The Mixton Wars. This was a rebellion of many eastern tribes in Mexico about 10 years after the conquest. At that time many natives in these areas had secretly learned to ride horses and the generals would probably have worn similar clothing to Aztec war dress. I would use this as one of those generals in that war.
odintheking May 26, 2006, 11:16 AM Awesome, utah, :goodjob:. Fills in a hole in Lord of Ragnarok.
Sword_Of_Geddon May 26, 2006, 03:24 PM Kick ass, thats all I have to say Utah man...thankyou a bunch for making this. Between the Mesoamerican units that I've, kinboat, you and Shiro have made, I'm pretty certain that Mesoamerica is farely complete when it comes to historical and real-world units..
Maybe in the future I'll make a Coyote Warrior, and redo my Atlantes and my first aztec guy. For now, I'm trying to stay away from anything to stressful, since I just got out of the hospital and I don't want to go back lol.
woodelf May 26, 2006, 06:46 PM Great perservence utah. Very nice unit.
Grandraem May 26, 2006, 06:58 PM Great looking and nicely animated.:) :goodjob:

ShiroKobbure May 28, 2006, 05:47 AM is there an Aztec or Mayan name for this unit?
W.i.n.t.e.r May 28, 2006, 07:17 AM Aztec Words:
Horse (from Spanish: Caballo) = cahuayotl (sing.), cahuayomeh (plur.)
Horseman (for Spaniards)= Cototzyetiuhqui (literally one who "cuts down (and/or 'dismembers') with ease")
Sir/Master (Señor)= (words ending with "-pilli"/ or containing "-tlacatl")
Warrior = Teyaochihuani (Champion of War/Battle); Soldier = Teyaotlani
----
My suggestion would be to put together something out of:
Cahuayo (horse), Teya (battle/war) and Huani (champion), and perhaps adding an "-atl" (from -tlacatl)... i.e.
Teyacahuanatl ("War-horse-master" or '-lord') or
Teyacahuahuani ("War-horse-champion")
Thunderfall May 28, 2006, 09:54 AM Very nicely animated unit!
Snorken May 28, 2006, 02:24 PM Great unit, utah. :)
utahjazz7 May 29, 2006, 08:03 AM Very nicely animated unit!
Wow, Thunderfall himself . . . I'm flattered. :)
And, thanks for the kind words, all.
