View Full Version : Mongol scenerio
taillesskangaru May 27, 2006, 08:10 PM Hi all.
I'm making a Mongol scenerio (1206 - 1294, total of 176 turns). I needed some 13th century wonders to add flavour to the scenerio. So far I came up with ones like "Magna Carta", "The Gulistan" and the "Opus Majus", which aren't really wonders, ie buildings.

Rambuchan May 28, 2006, 06:08 AM I'm putting together something that involves this period. I've got a wonder in for the Mongols (no it's not a buildings, sorry) called Temujin's Unification. This was the signifcant step that allowed his conquests to take place. Once the tribes had been united, well....... As such, this wonder is going to auto-produce Horde units (the M-unit) often, but will become obsolete not long after.
Takhisis May 28, 2006, 03:23 PM Are you gonna make the scen public? If so, you could use some help from me...

Hopefully yes...it's still very much on the drawing board.
ShiroKobbure May 28, 2006, 06:05 PM is there a list of units you need?
Takhisis May 28, 2006, 08:42 PM Or of wonders? You MUST have the yam, for example, and some other basic things, liek the division in decimal units, etc, also the Chinese contingents of Siege troops, ho-pao, etc.

it already has map with the civs in place, if you don't have a map already already. ;) That Mongol scenario was never completed.
BTW, the last page of that thread contains a very violent image, you have been warned.

If you're referring to Kubz's map on page I found it, but I reckon it's too big. I'm thinking that a 140x140 map should be alright. Maybe I'll make a smaller version of Kubz's map......Anyway thanx for warning me about the pic.
EDIT: Or of wonders? You MUST have the yam, for example, and some other basic things, liek the division in decimal units, etc, also the Chinese contingents of Siege troops, ho-pao, etc. Errm...I have no idea what you meant...please explain, if possible.
Takhisis May 29, 2006, 02:47 PM The yam was the Mongol version of the pony express. The yam riders are said to have been riding at about 150-250 km a day. That´s the way Genghis Khan kept in touch with his generals.
The ho-pao appears to be some kind of Chinese flamethrower?? similar to Greek fire.
The Yassa was Genghis Khan´s code for his people. I have a list of its main articles somewhere.
taillesskangaru Jun 17, 2011, 09:15 AM Well, it's been five years. Time for an update.
This scenario has been through several iterations. I started, stopped, restarted, stopped, and recently started it again from scratch (not that I have done much, anyway). Here's a preview of the map, so far.

Kyriakos Jun 17, 2011, 10:00 AM Does the map extend to the British isles and the Iberian Peninsula?

I thought about it, but it also means I'd have to include at least five extra civs and I'd rather put in the Assassins. So no.
I cut most of Southeast Asia as well, but I think the map's big enough anyway.
Takhisis Jun 17, 2011, 10:50 AM The Assassins of Alamut? What for? Better spend one of your 31 civs on something like the many Middle Eastern states or the different Steppe tribes.

I think I've got the most important of those covered.
And the Assassins because I want to see how I could make the faction interesting to play.
Takhisis Jun 17, 2011, 11:24 AM They start with ONE city. I guess you could make it a regicide game and the Assassins' fortress be almost impregnable. Which would be more or less accurate since the sudden death of a monarch could have meant the collapse of an entire kingdom…

Two! They have Masyaf too! (In Syria, near Damascus)

That's what I'm intending to do.
Takhisis Jun 17, 2011, 12:47 PM But how would they defend Masyaf then?
ShiroKobbure Jun 17, 2011, 01:15 PM This looks like it can be fun.
One suggestion is to make ships very expensive for the Mongols. Otherwise they can easily cross Japan, even though both times they tried they failed to land the total force in Japan.
Kyriakos Jun 17, 2011, 02:11 PM I had been thinking of making the same scenario as you, but with a map that exactly includes all of Europe. I wish you would reconsider (since i doubt i will find time to create my own) your decision to exclude those parts of the world.
But anyway, if you want to i can provide you with some medieval gfx for your scenario.
taillesskangaru Jun 17, 2011, 10:44 PM Naw. The scenario is centered on the Mongols. Other civs will be playable, but the focus is on the Mongol conquests. And with a limit of 31 civs, I had to cut those areas which were peripheral to the Mongols.
If I finish this, I might make another version with a bigger map that's extended to include Western Europe and Southeast Asia, but that's a future project.
Graphics are a secondary consideration. I don't want to make the download file too big. :p
Takhisis Jun 19, 2011, 04:33 PM So, what's the progress status of this? :)
Bengal Tiger Jun 19, 2011, 05:42 PM Changing topic a little bit, Shouldn't Georgia be called the Khazars at this time?
Also, maybe Hungary should have Zara(I think that's the coastal city on the Adriatic) because that's the city that started the first crusade against another christian kingdom. Venice basically payed the crusaders to reconquer Zara from Hungary, diverting them from the task of Jerusalem.
By the way, this looks very nice!
taillesskangaru Jun 20, 2011, 01:57 AM Progress status: on hold for a few days while I sort out my life

No. You're thinking of 7th - 10th century Jewish Turks north of the Caucasus.

Alright.
By the way, this looks very nice!
Thank you!
taillesskangaru Jul 25, 2011, 08:51 AM What the tech tree roughly looks like at the moment
The scenario will probably be about 100 - 200 turns. Should I have more techs?

Takhisis Jul 25, 2011, 02:11 PM If you're going to make the Code of Laws enable the Yassa and the Yam then those should require Horsback riding too, even if that Mongols already start with it.
