Ohhhh.... It's so hard to choose beween the Aztec Knight and the Roman Officer! (BTW, you said "April" in the thread title, it's supposed to be"May").

I went for the Aztec Knight, solid animation with great, original modelling, it's one of those units you'll forget Firaxis didn't make it.

The Etiopian Javelineer came very close for me...

I like the Ethiopian Javelin, not only because it is one of the very few Sub-Saharan African units available but the javelin attack animation seems to be expertly done. :)

Utahjazz's Aztec knight was a close second.

CamJH

I vote for the Keeper of Secrets.

Hold on a sec... aaglo didn't enter it! Guess I'll have to vote for the flying carpet then. :)

Another great competition this month guys. All of those units are wonderful contributions to the Civ world.

Thank you - I'm very touched that anyone would think my unit superior to Utahjazz's excellent one, or indeed any of the fine work on display here. It really is a big boost when you're not much experienced at this sort of thing.

Traianus

i think that would have been my choice for second. It's not far short of Utah's. Another really good unit!

Well, I never reinstalled Poser after my computer crashed a couple months back, but it's become more and more tempting lately. I may have to dig up the cd over the weekend. It's been so long since I've put together a unit though, I'd probably have to go through utah's tutorial. ;)

You still have a lot of fans, you know... ;)
And your units are used in both LotM and WH 2.5. :)

I voted for aaglo, kudos also to Plotinus and LMR!.

Thanks guys. :) Cool to still have some fans, even after being out of the biz for about a year.

Now I just have to come up with a unit that'd be worthy of a comeback. :hmm:

I voted for the Ethiopian Javilineer. I thought it was very well animated. It was a tough call though. I also very much liked Aaglo's imaginative Flying Carpet and Orthanc's Modern Pirate.

Traianus
Jun 03, 2006, 12:14 PM
such a tight comp. I'll be watching intently!

CamJH
Jun 03, 2006, 03:49 PM
Not opposed to taking on some WH 40K units. Gotta say that I prefer non-gun-wielding units though. Any of those in WH 40K? I check out the thread time to time, but I still know so very little about the 40k universe.

I feel as though I'm starting to hijack this jury thread though, so I'll check into the 40k thread to see if you come up with something rather than in here.

[CamJH] As I've said before, you've made some really nice units - it would be great to see some more. Although now I know how much effort goes into them, I'd understand it if you stayed out of the business for good!

I agree, and in sympathy i also will vote for Utahjazz, so as to make it easier for you to not be confronted with the collapse of the village totems that are Utahjazz's unit's.

Besides, Stockton was always my favourite nba player ;)

Well I voted for the Ethiopian also. Sure, there's an element of the "Promising newcomer vote" but also because it's genuinely good and useful to me. Of course, I'll echo that this was a really tough competition, moreso than others have been. Boring to say, but true.
I thought I had had enough of unit making last year (especially when WoT tanked after all my efforts), but I gotta admit I've missed it lately... especially after seeing some of the great units entered into these competitions. That's great to read and I'm quoting it to remind you of this sentiment :D

Personally, if it is a tie, I'd be quite up for a tie-break vote, if UtahJazz is too. But it ought to be up to Flamand.

Flamand
Jun 08, 2006, 04:16 AM
I'd be more inclined to have a deathmatch, where the two of you have to make a new unit entirely... But a revote will do... ;)

7ronin
Jun 08, 2006, 01:45 PM
The thing about a death match is that if they're making units for the death match, they probably won't be making units for the June contest in which case the contest suffers.

Orthanc
Jun 08, 2006, 02:13 PM
I think just handing out two trophies is easy enough, no reason to bog them down with finishing this just because of the way the votes came out.

Unless, of course, they want to try a deathmatch unit challenge...

Flamand
Jun 08, 2006, 02:41 PM
After another exciting battle we have reached our first tie, which poses me a dilemma... Deathmatch would be cool, but 7Ronin is right: it would lead submissions away from the next competition. And two cups is no option either, since I only have one... :D

So congratulations to the two deserving winners Plotinus and Utahjazz who may call themselves Unit Makers of the Month May 2006! Eternal fame for one month will be their fate, as well as half of the cup...

Yayy! OK, I'll take the left-hand side of the trophy, and UtahJazz can have the right.

Thanks enormously to those who voted for me - it's really great to do so well with my first entry, and only my third unit at all. I thought this one would be between UtahJazz and aaglo. I also thought both Orthanc and Flamand would do better - in fact, I think Flamand's unit is possibly the most nicely animated one there. Everyone makes such good units these days!

the ballot was confusing.

Minorities were underrepresented in the vote total. Elderly jewish grammas were unsure who they voted for.

I demand a recount. Then another hand recount. Then shake all the votes so the chads fall out.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS... and counts...and counts... and counts...

I'll get my lawyers involved!!
