View Full Version : Second city placement
DaveShack Jun 03, 2006, 02:04 AM Time to start thinking about where our 2nd city will go. I'm a little pressed for time right now, anyone can load our current incoming save and post a screenie with proposed locations. The floodplain area looks pretty nice to me to get our beakers up, but exactly where?
Veera Anlai Jun 06, 2006, 03:51 AM I will admit, I am not the greatest at city placement, but just to get some discussion started, I'll post a few ideas.

Settlement A - This arrangement gives us 9 flood plain tiles, and has both fresh water and ocean access. This location also has only five unusable tiles.
Settlement B - Is similar to Settlement A, but is a little farther away, and has 10 flood plain tiles. It also has fresh water, ocean access, and five unusable tiles. It has one forest on a savannah tile, but doesn't have the grassland/hill that settlement A has.
Settlement C - Has only three floodplains, but this provides a connection between... Uhm. Do we have names yet? Anyways, it provides a connection between Wheelville Lake, and that Other Body of Water. This could be handy if we ever decide naval might is important! Settlement C also has sheep, and I could use some mutton.
There are other possible city placements, but they seem a bit subpar at this time. If you see something better, feel free to discuss! As it is, I'm thinking that Settlement B would be best, followed by settlement C with out next settler. No overlap, uses as many resources as possible, and gives us some potential for naval growth later in the game.
dutchfire Jun 06, 2006, 09:53 AM We could do C first and then B, or the other way round.
Theoden Jun 06, 2006, 03:08 PM I think we should go with A. It doens't overlap with WheelVille at all, and B will just be wasting a nice grassland hill. Also, with A there is more room to have a second flood plains city to the east by the river there.
I don't see any reason for B, especially as the forest will still yield the maximum possible shields when chopped for location A.
Zeikko Jun 06, 2006, 06:19 PM My vote goes to A and to C after that.
DaveShack Jun 06, 2006, 08:08 PM I see A and B as pretty even. The hill that we miss by placing at B gives some badly needed hammers, so in my own game I'd use A. The overlap with C doesn't bother me at all, getting all plots worked in both cities will take an eternity anyway.
The only question I'd have is if we should perhaps delay C until we stretch further to the east, and then fill back in. With clustered resources, we can snatch that cluster of silks and maybe get a monopoly. However, if we go that way we'd better be able to defend it well.
Theoden Jun 07, 2006, 04:39 AM I agree with Dave that we probably should hold out on building C, and instead seek to secure a key city to the east of our second city. It seems to me that any other civs most likely will come from there.
Zeikko Jun 07, 2006, 06:21 AM Theoden has a good point in delaying the building of C city.
Mauer Jun 07, 2006, 09:50 AM A looks good. So does the spot NE of B though. It would put a little spread on our empire, but looks good none the less.
DaveShack Jul 23, 2006, 02:12 PM Time for us to wake up on this one and decide where our current settler will go. It has 3 turns remaining (2 after hitting enter this time) so will be done in less than a week unless someone doesn't play right away.
Theoden Jul 23, 2006, 06:49 PM I'm still strongly for placing our city on A (on the map in post #2).
dutchfire Jul 24, 2006, 04:21 AM A sounds ok to me. But after that, we need to know where the other guys are.
Veera Anlai Jul 25, 2006, 12:42 AM Once again, I'm still leaning towards A myself.
dutchfire Jul 25, 2006, 05:33 AM btw could we have a map of the whole area. Do we already know where the rivals probably are?
