View Full Version : Who will win the FIFA World Cup? Crakie Jun 12, 2006, 02:27 PM I know Americans amuse themselves with their own little games ;), but how about a prediction on a REAL sport? :D El Justo Jun 12, 2006, 02:35 PM Deutschland!!!!! Ansar Jun 12, 2006, 02:57 PM Isnt Holland the same as the Netherlands? :hmm: Whomp Jun 12, 2006, 03:18 PM PSV! I heard the Dutch team had an open practice for their fans. Of course all of them were dressed in orange and one guy in an orange panda suit ran onto the field to kibitz with the players. My twin. Isnt Holland the same as the Netherlands? Dutch humor. Kickbooti Jun 12, 2006, 03:25 PM You are a funny guy Crakie. In America, Soccer is a low-cost sporting alternative for 5-9 year olds until they can play a real sport like Football, Hockey or Baseball. My general impression of soccer is best summed up by the Simpsons, and I quote... "High kicking! Low scoring! And ties? You Betcha!" Whomp Jun 12, 2006, 03:31 PM You are a funny guy Crakie. My general impression of soccer is best summed up by the Simpsons, and I quote... "High kicking! Low scoring! And ties? You Betcha!" That word is blasphemous over there. I'll bet you get struck down by Meleet cuz them there be some fightin' words. Go Booti, go Booti, go Booti, go Booti  Kickbooti Jun 12, 2006, 03:44 PM  That word is blasphemous over there. I'll bet you get struck down by Meleet cuz them there be some fightin' words. I'm sure the wise and munificent Meleet will forgive me. I'll speak with Grahamian and see if we can sacrifice to Meleet by straining the citizens of Dancing Bannana through a chain link fence. Soccer fans in some part of the world seem to like that so I figure... In my opinion It is a bit blood-thirsty, not at all like the civilized practice of gaining 70lbs., wiating for the temperature to fall below freezing, liqouring up and stripping to the waist after covering yourself in body paint (ala Green Bay Packers). Ahhh. I'm counting the days until Lord Football can ascend his autumnul throne. But until then, different strokes for different folks. ;) Whomp Jun 12, 2006, 03:51 PM I'm sure the wise and munificent Meleet will forgive me. There's nothing better than seeing Joey Harrington get thrown around like a ragdoll and because it's obvious we stink at the other game. Sir Bugsy Jun 12, 2006, 10:27 PM I'm going to be cheering on the French. Oh, they aren't in it. So how about that Tour de France? Crakie Jun 13, 2006, 03:02 AM I'm going to be cheering on the French. Oh, they aren't in it. So how about that Tour de France? They're in... they're playing their first match today, actually :) @ KB... IIRC a South-American civilization played a 'game' much like football and the losing team was killed to please the Gods. I fear there aren't enough citizens in Dancing Nana to please Meleet though ;) Daghdha Jun 13, 2006, 03:36 AM Nice try Cracker, but no vote :D . We made a poor impression in our opening game but we'll run over Paraguay as well as the bulldogs, so watch out. Henke Larsson is :king: Sir Bugsy Jun 13, 2006, 10:18 PM They're in... they're playing their first match today, actually :) See what I know. I'm only supporting them because of their wine and women. :groucho: Wosret Jun 14, 2006, 09:17 AM Well well well :mischief: http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/1764/3547370563ga5vq.th.jpg (http://img161.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3547370563ga5vq.jpg) http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/3519/3547422288ga3ao.th.jpg (http://img161.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3547422288ga3ao.jpg) I ready to say that soccer is the better sport all over the world  And Im ready to say, Brasilll take the prize :goodjob: http://gblx.cache.el-mundo.net/elmundodeporte/especiales/2005/12/mundialalemania2006/img/equipos/brasil.jpg By the way, the simplicity of the soccer is that really show whos really good and who isnt :p Daghdha Jun 14, 2006, 09:29 AM Wosret// Congrats to a very entertaining victory vs. Croatia. Great game and a wonderful goal by Kaka. Good Luck and by the way, nice outfit  Whomp Jun 14, 2006, 10:30 AM Spain! Wow 4-0! They have a 23 match unbeaten streak under their current coach. I am going long all the Latin speakers....Mexico, Brazil, Portugal and Spain. Ole..ole, ole, oleee....ole, ole! Kickbooti Jun 14, 2006, 10:39 AM I am going long all the Latin speakers....Mexico, Brazil, Portugal and Spain. Ole..ole, ole, oleee....ole, ole! Don't forget the ever popular "G-G-G-GOO-GOOO-GOOOOOOAAAAAAL!!!!" I have to confess, I still don't understand the world-wide passion for a sport that doesn't celebrate the athleticism of men such as these... Butterball Jun 14, 2006, 02:05 PM ... I have to confess, I still don't understand the world-wide passion for a sport that doesn't celebrate the athleticism of men such as these... See how svelt and athletic our Football players are!!! We sure do love our Bears. GO BEARS!!! BB  Sir Bugsy Jun 14, 2006, 11:14 PM What athletes! Wosret - if you keep posting pictures like those first two, you may be able to win my heart away from the French. For example: http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/158/brazilgirl16qb.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/3338/brazilgirl22sx.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/9173/brazilgirl30ok.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/1724/brazilgirl43wt.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/7222/brazilgirl59nn.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8252/brazilgirl64sb.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Wine is overrated, I'm convinced. Go Brazil! Butterball Jun 15, 2006, 12:58 PM I think I'll join Bugs in rooting for Brazil!!! Go BRAZIL!!! BB Ansar Jun 15, 2006, 03:15 PM Brasil é awesome! :yeah:  It seems you have convinced plenty of people , Wosret... :D Crakie Jun 16, 2006, 04:02 AM Damn you, Wosret, damn you and your samba girls. I didn't know you guys had blonds too ;) Sir Bugsy Jun 16, 2006, 08:21 PM Crakie, perhaps you can convince us to cheer for the Netherlands. I haven't seen any pictures of Dutch girls. Crakie Jun 18, 2006, 02:03 PM http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/1759/sylvie30pm.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9559/ddr0540033cf.jpg (http://imageshack.us) This is Sylvie, wife of Raphael van der Vaart, a Dutch midfielder. He's usually not in the game for the full 90 minutes, probably because he lacks... erm... the energy? ;) I'm sure there are excellent orange girls on the net, but I suck at finding them. Maybe I'll stumble upon them one of these days. BTW, both Brasil and The Netherlands are going to the 1/8 finals :goodjob: (Not that either of them impressed the world with great football though). Sir Bugsy Jun 18, 2006, 03:37 PM I can see why he may be a bit ... erm... tired. gmaharriet Jun 18, 2006, 04:00 PM Back in the early 1960's I used to work with a woman who was married to one of the Dallas Cowboys. The guys weren't allowed to become ... erm... tired for several days before a game. They were expected to save up all their energy for demolishing the other team. :mischief: BTW, when are you guys going to post some equally interesting player pix? ...just so I'll know who to cheer for. :p Kickbooti Jun 18, 2006, 09:09 PM BTW, when are you guys going to post some equally interesting player pix? ...just so I'll know who to cheer for. :p Don't you worry Gma. I'm sure they are getting right on that. You bet, top of the list I'm sure...:crazyeye: gmaharriet Jun 18, 2006, 09:52 PM You bet, top of the list I'm sure...:crazyeye: That's what I figured. :( Crakie Jun 19, 2006, 04:34 PM That's what I figured. :( Your support is worth the embarrasing search, grandma :) For comparison, I present you a player from Brasil (the cartoon, in his case, is flattering): http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/9334/430461ronaldinho7rl.jpg (http://imageshack.us) And a Dutch player: http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/8931/hoofdvanpersie8cg.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Take your pick! Wosret Jun 19, 2006, 05:52 PM hmmm... hehe no coments... but let me say Ronaldinho Gaucho is just the better of the better. lol Ah! and about the Mecanichs Oranges Vs Coast of Ivory (dont know how to traslate this country correctly)... Holland didnt bad, bad the Oscar Ruiz (the "judge" of the match(dont know if you say judge as wel..) did a shame! Im not cheering for any of both, but what happened wasnt good... 2 penalties unmarked for the Elephants... Im ansious to see Argentina Vs Holland :D hehehehe, los hermanos will knock u hardly for the 1st position. Brasil is taking easy, it always happens... as you can remember what happened in japan when we did 1x1 against turkey.... Note, if you really want to see good games next rounds watch Italy Vs Rep. Czech, Gana Vs EUA or Holland Vs Argentina... The 2 1st games i said settle the enemy of brazil in the 1/8... it will be very great. Sir Bugsy Jun 19, 2006, 09:56 PM I agree. Those first two games will be very interesting. I was really surprised at how hard the Yanks played the Italians. The World Cup is always fascinating to me. Daghdha Jun 20, 2006, 03:51 AM Tonight Sweden vs. England. We haven't lost since 1968 :D. Could a very wiered game depending on the result btw Germany- Ecuador. Nobody wants to meet the Mansachft :suicide: . Y'know football: 22 guys running around chasing a ball for 90 minutes... and then germany wins. Crakie Jun 20, 2006, 04:01 AM Yeah, I think the whole world is anxious for the Holland - Argentina match. Unfortunately, both coaches said to leave out the slightly injured and those with a yellow card already. Basically, neither will have their best team on field. jb1964 Jun 21, 2006, 10:14 AM Tonight Sweden vs. England. We haven't lost since 1968 :D. Could a very wiered game depending on the result btw Germany- Ecuador. Nobody wants to meet the Mansachft :suicide: . Y'know football: 22 guys running around chasing a ball for 90 minutes... and then germany wins. Well, in the 90th minute you didn't lose but then you did earn Germany next. BTW, my family came from Sweeden to the US so if the US can't advance (then a miracle happens) then I'll be pulling for the Vikings. Whomp Jun 21, 2006, 01:18 PM OK well if JB's playing that way I'm cheering for the English and Italians...the Irish side of me will be joining me at the pub. gmaharriet Jun 21, 2006, 03:56 PM Crakie's photo of the Dutch player is certainly influencing my, erm, interest in the Dutch team. :groucho: If I were to go by ancestral heritage, it would be either the English or Germans. Hmmm, since I'm a real mongrel, I don't suppose there's either a Scottish or Polish team, huh? :hmm: Crakie Jun 21, 2006, 07:15 PM If I were to go by ancestral heritage Let's not go there :mischief: Update for those devoid of ESPN2: an entertaining match between Argentina and the great Orange Lions, but no score. I just love to combine 'entertaining' and 'no score' in a single sentence while adressing to a predominantly American audience ;) Daghdha Jun 21, 2006, 09:06 PM Well, in the 90th minute you didn't lose but then you did earn Germany next. BTW, my family came from Sweeden to the US so if the US can't advance (then a miracle happens) then I'll be pulling for the Vikings. 1968 still stands! Even if Germany is a better team than Ecuador, I'm not all that pessimistic. They are so convinced they will run us over, and that is always a :nono: if you wanna win. US will not go through, sorry, so welcome to my side :) Wosret Jun 22, 2006, 02:58 AM Dont know you, but Ill join the Irish side today watching Brazil X Japan. And unhaplly Gana X Usa and Tchec X Italy will be the same time... and more unhaply.. ive to work after this games... so my irish side will really have to wait for the Brazil game :D Tubby Rower Jun 22, 2006, 07:00 AM Predictions for todays matches.... US over Ghana 1-3 Italy in a close one vs the Czechs 1-2 USA ADVANCES!!!!! Sir Bugsy Jun 22, 2006, 09:50 PM Sorry, Tubbs. The USA sucks in soccer. We lost 2-1. It wasn't really close. Crakie Jun 23, 2006, 04:42 AM That Australia - Czech Rep. match was crazy... but that referee was insane! Tubby Rower Jun 23, 2006, 05:19 AM Sorry, Tubbs. The USA sucks in soccer. We lost 2-1. Didn't catch the match. What was so nuts about the ref? Whomp Jun 23, 2006, 12:50 PM Tubby is familiar with this so here it goes... These are the current market prices on each team. What was so nuts about the ref? You mean apart from wearing the silly hat? j/k He made some very dubious decisions with respect to handing out cards (3x red in total) and penalties, but he topped it off by awarding a player his second yellow card of the match, but he didn't send him off the field. The player kept playing on till the end, and only when it was finished he got the red one - yes, that's right - after the match was over. I dunno, maybe there's a rule for that, but it seems crazy to me :mischief: jb1964 Jun 29, 2006, 07:57 AM The few games that I've sat down and watched both my sons and I have been just beside ourselves with the calls. Mind you, I never played the game but when my children started I did read through the ~1998 rule book so I would have a clue as to what was going on. Wosret Jul 01, 2006, 09:10 AM Brasil X France Today \o/ OMFG... man, you cant imagine how crazy things become all around here when brasil plays... as soon as i get a pic of myself on one of these comemorations ill post here for you :D But I have to say, it will be Brasil X Germany in the final... maybe a marked cards game... but let the time says... :D Sir Bugsy Jul 02, 2006, 10:06 AM Bummer about Brazil. If any of those Brazilian girls need a shoulder to cry on, I can comfort them. :mischief: Wosret Jul 03, 2006, 07:37 PM WTFFF man... not nice to lost, but its worse when you se your players doing not but walk on the field like they werent minding about all that... Well.. now lets Rock Portugal \o/ heuheuheuhe Crakie Jul 04, 2006, 06:24 AM It's amazing how the Brazilian coach only in the last half hour put some young but amazing players in... he must be kicking himself that he realized too late how good they actually are :D Portugal should win an Oscar, not the Cup. Rik Meleet Jul 04, 2006, 07:35 AM ... and as a finishing touch, The Portuguese eliminated the Dutch. Crakie Jul 05, 2006, 06:11 AM Whether The Portugese, the referee or God eliminated us, is up for debate ;) Wosret Jul 06, 2006, 10:42 AM heuheuheuheuehueh i think portugal Vs dutch will create a lot of discussions for years :D Aaaaannndd Portugal is eliminated hehehe... well French Vs Italy... omfg, i really dont know what to say, but i think i should be at the side of the french, so i may say we lost for the champoins lol hehehehe @Crakie, about Parreira, it seems every brazilian want to give him a Pedala Robinho (means a slap on the nape of the neck) but the only thing we may really do is to drink and cry our defeat... thats sad, but we support :D Ansar Jul 06, 2006, 12:17 PM That was so cheap, France winning because of a penalty. Portugal had so many opportunities and the ball came so close to the goal...:shake: Oh well, now I'm cheering for Italia! :bounce: Daghdha Jul 07, 2006, 05:37 AM I think the Boulahrouz GBH on Ronaldo was reason enough for the Oranje to leave. Ronaldo is an actor of course, but this time he was clearly not fakin' it. Go Sizou! Pentium Jul 09, 2006, 04:34 PM Ah, Italia won. Ansar Jul 09, 2006, 05:51 PM Ah, Italia won. I sure wouldnt want to be the French guy who missed the shot at the penalty.;) but in all else, CONGRATULATIONS ITALY! i knew you guys would win! :D Tubby Rower Jul 09, 2006, 08:25 PM I think that the US will still pull it out in the end. Daghdha Jul 11, 2006, 08:25 AM  Gli Azzurri :wallbash: France Pentium Jul 11, 2006, 12:24 PM :wallbash: Franceso true, so true... |
