Decisions:
We have a warrior coming out next turn, settler next?
What tiles to work?
Worker action?
Theoden Jun 12, 2006, 03:56 PM I propose we take the citizen off the forest and onto the irrigated rice (or is it wheat?) for those 5 food. Build something else (a work boat probably as we'll need that soon anyway to improve our sea resource) until the city reaches size 3, and then start the settler. Waiting those extra two turns for the city to grow will pay off because we will then place the third citizen on the forest and increase production, thereby cutting the production time of the settler by more than those two turns.
As for the worker, it's pretty much waiting for animal husbandry so we can build a pasture on the pigs. Until then maybe connect the rice to the capital?
Sigma Jun 12, 2006, 04:21 PM I agree with everything Theoden said. If the worker finishes the road to the capital before AH is done, I'd continue roading to the pigs so it's immediately connected when the pasture finishes.
dutchfire Jun 13, 2006, 01:50 AM :agree: I totally agree with what Theoden said.
DaveShack Jun 14, 2006, 10:16 PM Warrior done, started work boat.
Citizen on irrigated rice & crabs. Growth in 2, AH in 7, work boat in 20-something but will change.
Warrior1 moves E, nothing new to report.
Warrior3 (newly built one) moves N, will explore N until settler is ready.
DaveShack Jun 17, 2006, 04:31 AM Warrior3 to rice, warrior 1 S, will enter village next turn. Growth in 1 so need to know where we want the 3rd citizen to go. Road complete on rice, will road the connecting tile next. AH in 6, need next research decided soon.
Turn played and sent. Sorry this is so terse but it's 2:30 AM. ;)
Theoden Jun 17, 2006, 08:04 AM The third citizen should go on either a forest or the pigs. It doesn't matter which one, as we will be building a settler.
DaveShack Jun 18, 2006, 03:08 PM Worker finishes road on rice, starts connecting road.
Growth to size 3, now working seafood, pigs, and rice. Changed build to settler, due in 15 but will improve when the pasture completes. Animal Husbandry in 5.
There is another option, we could build something else for 5 turns and then start the settler. No opinion on whether that would be a net improvement.
Warrior enters village...

And the villagers are so impressed that one of their scouts decides to join us! :D

The overall result would be converting growth into production towards the settler. While that may be good due to our city being limited to size 5 anyway (6 if we adopt state religion), I think getting the settler out 5 turns earlier (in the end probably 4 turns), will be more beneficial. Our second city will be founded earlier, will start producing science earlier and if it ever builds a settler the city it founds will also be earlier.
Come to think of it, the settler will be delayed by 5 turns + the time it takes to build a pasture. So I definately think we should build the settler right away.
dutchfire Jun 22, 2006, 12:56 PM I'm starting the play-session now, as other teams are starting to complain.
:)
dutchfire Jun 22, 2006, 01:14 PM Played, nothing happened.
We did meet a panther

DaveShack Jun 22, 2006, 01:30 PM Sorry, I started in on it when it first came in, got interrupted by the kids, and then went to sleep. By morning it was a distant memory. Thanks for taking care of it!
dutchfire Jun 22, 2006, 01:37 PM No problem, it wasn't much work.
DaveShack Jun 25, 2006, 06:59 PM Worker finishes road, starts road S of town.
We need a tech choice in 2 turns.

dutchfire Jun 26, 2006, 03:50 AM Mining, we will need axes as soon as we meet someone.
Mauer Jun 26, 2006, 08:16 PM I concur the dutchman's sentiments.
Swissempire Jun 28, 2006, 01:08 AM Mining baby!
DaveShack Jun 28, 2006, 01:55 AM IBT both warriors defeat animals (1 wolf and 1 panther), but are wounded. One of them still faces another animal, a bear I think (closed game then decided to write about it). Our scout goes one way around a mountain and sees there was a bear the other way around.
The worker will road the pigs first since we're still 2 from AH.
DaveShack Jul 01, 2006, 03:03 AM Both our warriors defeat their animals The bear seems to be gone so the scout advances, but doesn't see much of anything new. AH will be finished in the next save that is received.
We seem to have decided on Mining for the next tech.
The worker has started a road on the pigs, pasture after that.
I will be unavailable from July 1 thru end of day July 4. If the next save comes in, we'll need a backup turnplayer.
DaveShack Jul 04, 2006, 08:16 PM Got it, playing.
Animal husbandry is done, started mining, due in 6. Settler due in 10. Exploring units all see that the land continues, in the N, NE, and SE. Still can't get a read on the map type, and no contact with anyone else. Maybe it's a very thready pangaea, or it could be one of the unusual map types.
Next turn, the worker will start on a pasture, which will finish early enough to affect the settler build.
With the revealed map area and no contact with anyone else yet, I think we might benefit from city placement according to resources and choke points. It's likely at this point that we'll have more land than we can effectively settle, until some commercial techs are available.

Theoden Jul 05, 2006, 07:15 AM The shape of the continent does seem a little odd. Then again, Sirian has made the map, so we can expect anything. ;)
I think all this space with no neighboors calls for a relatively loose city spacing to claim more land without bankrupting ourselves.
Sirian Jul 05, 2006, 01:34 PM Then again, Sirian has made the map, so we can expect anything. ;)
 :cooool:
Nomad Bryce Jul 06, 2006, 12:16 PM BOO! I should play more! lol. Maybe You will be seeing more of me! I have been a very American style citizen... lack of political participation. Well I'm here now. I had some comments about whats going on, but I decided no participation, no input or complaining. If I keep talking for a week, then I'll open my big mouth!!! Love, Bryce.
DaveShack Jul 11, 2006, 02:40 AM Our brave scout, who joined us from a friendly village, was killed and eaten by a savage bear before he could explore any further to the NE. :(
The warrior to the SE is waiting in the jungle to heal, while the warrior to the N stepped into a forest for some protection.
Approximately 4 turns are left before we need to decide for certain where the settler goes. We were leaning heavily towards the floodplain area when we discussed it earlier.
