View Full Version : Innovian Department of Innovation
dutchfire Jun 19, 2006, 06:36 AM Welcome Citizens
to the heart of our countries soul: innovation.
This is the department in charge of our innovation.
We are currently working on an discovery that will change possibly change the way we eat! We think it's possible to capture the pigs near our brilliant city Wheelville and to eat them. This will give our city a lot of extra food. We estimate that it will take another 5 periods of time to finish this discovery.
DaveShack Jun 26, 2006, 07:44 PM We're ready for this office to sponsor a discussion / "vote" on the next tech. :D
dutchfire Jun 27, 2006, 04:29 AM What do you all think about mining?
DaveShack Jul 23, 2006, 02:06 PM Mining finishes this turn, we have about 3 days to decide what to research next. :D
Theoden Jul 23, 2006, 06:53 PM What are the possible techs to research and how long will it take to research them?
DaveShack Jul 24, 2006, 01:19 AM Hunting - 5
Sailing - 11
Pottery - 8
Meditation - 9
Masonry - 9
Priesthood - 7
Bronze Working - 15
Horseback Riding - 26
Writing - 13
dutchfire Jul 24, 2006, 04:25 AM I'd say bronze working. We need axes to stop an invasion if we meet someone else, and we need axes to stop barbs, and this way we can chop some forests. And after we settle in the flood plains, whipping might be the only/best way of production there.
Theoden Jul 24, 2006, 05:26 AM I'd go with either bronze working or pottery. Bronze Working for the reasons dutchfire suggested and pottery because it doesn't take long to research and because our soon-to-be flood plains city is suitable for a lot of cottages and the earlier we start the better.
dutchfire Jul 24, 2006, 05:37 AM We'll need mysticism once we're going to settle, to make some :culture:
edit: We have mysticism
Theoden Jul 24, 2006, 06:47 AM We'll need mysticism once we're going to settle, to make some :culture:
We already have mysticism... ;)
dutchfire Jul 24, 2006, 08:05 AM Whoopsss, editing that out now :p
DaveShack Jul 24, 2006, 02:31 PM Bronze working or pottery, for sure.
BW lets us know where to settle if we don't already have metal. It also lets us adopt slavery which can be a good emergency response to unfriendly neighbors.
Pottery lets us build cottages and granaries. The floodplain site is a perfect place for both. It might be nice to be able to whip that granary which would then pay for itself by regrowing the population faster.
If we were sure our neighbors wouldn't have a blood lust, we could go with pottery first. In a MP game it's a bit of a gamble, and without contact to know who we would face and their relative power, it could be a big gamble. OTOH, neighbors might be awfully far away in which case early BW is probably less efficient.
A less urgent but still pressing need is priesthood. It looks like we'll be needing the happy effects of temples, especially that floodplain city which will grow really fast.
Then it's clear we should be on a track generally towards CoL, after making sure our military is strong enough. If we go resource grabbing with our city placement, the distance component of city maintenance will get to us quickly.
dutchfire Jul 25, 2006, 05:31 AM I'd say
bronze working-> if no copper->iron working-> if copper -> pottery
Theoden Jul 25, 2006, 04:38 PM I agree with dutchfire's suggestion. It sounds like a good and relatively non-risky plan. :)
1889 Sep 05, 2006, 03:09 AM Pottery will be done in 2 turns. I think we have all the techs we need to expand and defend ourselves for now. So how about Masonry(5 turns) Monotheism(9) and adopt Organized Religion or Priesthood(5) Writing(9) Code of Law(30) and adopt Cast System so we can start applying that Philosophical trait?
Theoden Sep 05, 2006, 07:57 AM If going for Oracle, as I suggested in the other thread, definately the priesthood-writing-CoL line. If not, then I think sailing would be a good choice, for the galleys and trade routes along coasts.
dutchfire Sep 05, 2006, 09:35 AM Masonry + Monotheism -> Organized Religion = production bonus (we need production) + missionaries without meditation!
Writing + Alphabet? Would loco be prepared to trade?
1889 Oct 06, 2006, 01:55 AM Alphabet sounds good right now (20 turns or so to research).
dutchfire Oct 06, 2006, 10:35 AM I agree, Alphabet might be the best thing.
Theoden Oct 06, 2006, 11:55 AM I agree, Alphabet is the best choice.
Maybe we could go for the Great Library?
DaveShack Oct 14, 2006, 11:01 AM At turn 70, Alphabet is 19 turns away.
Other options:
Hunting(3) -> Archery(5)
Masonry(4) -> Monotheism(8)
Metal Casting (29)
Iron Working (13)
Math (16)
Monarchy (19)
Code of Laws (23)
Horseback Riding (16)
CoL would give us access to courthouses, which could help with maintenance costs given many cities will be far from the capitol.
Math gives us double hammers on chops, but our land is ill-suited for the woodcutters lifestyle. We actually need the forests to grow.
Monotheism gives us organized religion, as previously mentioned. If our 12 turns are the fastest, it keeps someone from getting an easy religion.
Even if it doesn't result in trade opportunities, alphabet lets us see what the others have.
If Confucianism hadn't already been founded, I'd say go for CoL for the double benefits. Since it has, we can trade for it or wait for it to get cheaper.
dutchfire Oct 14, 2006, 11:42 AM I'd say alphabet first, and then we'll see again.
1889 Oct 14, 2006, 12:22 PM Alphabet still sounds good to me. By the time we finish maybe we'll have some more contacts and be able to trade for most of the other techs on the list.
Theoden Oct 15, 2006, 06:51 AM I agree, we should go for ALphabet, especially as we are beginning to get more contacts now.
Ball Lightning Oct 15, 2006, 07:16 PM Alphabet will allow us to be the best at techs.
1889 Nov 10, 2006, 10:05 AM Alphabet will be done in 5 turns. We should start thinking about tech trades and our next project.
Masonry and Monotheism will take 4 and 6 turns respectively. Masonry isn't going to be much use but Monotheism opens organized religion with the +25% production bonus and missionaries. Also maybe well get Judaism too. Oops, its was discovered this turn.
Meditation is a real good tech (monasteries) also but we can hopefully trade for it.
dutchfire Nov 10, 2006, 10:13 AM Code of Laws for Courthouses is also good, but it's expensive. We would be able to trade for many of the lower techs with Aloha and Loco though, so researching them might not be usefull.
BTW check if anyone has horsebackriding, if they have, we should get hunting asap for spearmen.
