View Full Version : Thank you
Amra Jun 24, 2006, 03:01 PM I just wanted to say thank you to a lot of the very helpful members of this forum. Recently, I needed help merging some SDK mods and rewriting some python coding. Each time, within hours of posting a request for help, I had the help I was seeking. First, from Teg_Navanis & then from TheLopez. Both were very quick to help AND very polite about it.
All too often, I have visited forums that were populated by very childish members too busy flaming each other to help. Civfanatics is not that way and I, for one, appreciate it.
Thanks, again.
Teg_Navanis Jun 24, 2006, 05:41 PM You're welcome :)
Wyz_sub10 Jun 24, 2006, 07:26 PM This is a really good forum. Most people hear take pride in their work which, I think, is why they are so willing to help out. Most modders here also seem to understand the bigger picture.
I have worked with modding teams for other games, and have experienced no where near the level of civility and professionalism I have with folks here.
Red Door Jun 24, 2006, 08:14 PM It's still not as good as Civ 3 Creation and Customization. :p
Kael Jun 24, 2006, 10:59 PM Imagine this. Civ4 comes out in the last few days of October 2005. I love it as I had the versions before and I want to mod it. But I have never programmed before and I have never even heard of python before then.
So I come here and start studing the works of Mylon, Master Lexx, TGA, Bhruic and others. I ask a lot of questions and I always get great answers, helpful and encouraging. On Decemeber 16th, after about 6 weeks of learning as fast as I can I release the first version of Fall from Heaven. It was a lot of XML changes and a handful of python routines.
Since then others have jumped in to help with project, Chalid and Talchas have helped me learn C++. At one point Chalid told me that he generally likes my code, but some of it makes him want to cry . So I continue to study others work and I feel like I learn more everyday.
I guess Im saying that I am very appreciative to the community. Not only have they helped me make something I really enjoy, but I've learned a skill thats actually valuable in my job. How many games can say that?!? Its one of the reasons I try hard to help the community, I feel like I owe a ton to the people here.
So a huge thanks from me too, to the players who have been extremly helpful in providing great feedback, to everyone that posts a mod, that spends an evening figuring out how to do something new, to those that post writeups in the guides forum, to firaxis for making such a moddable game (their task was made a hundred times more difficult by including this modding support) and to Thunderfall for giving us this great place to hang out together. Thank you.
Shqype Jun 24, 2006, 11:12 PM I will sign the Thank You as well. This is my first time modding anything real and serious, and I actually learned the basics about XML from BrentRichie's tutorial here on the forums. Since then I've experimented and learned from the works of others. I've learned to program Python from the fine members of this forum including, but not limited to, Kael, TGA, Belizan, Talchas, TheLopez, and others. We have some great unitmakers that produce beautiful looking units and aren't against helping out with tutorials or even questions I ask in PMs (Rabbit, White).
We have a handful of great people here that make contributions to the community and devote their time to helping others, which is the most important thing. This is the only game-related forum I belong to, and I'm very happy to be a part of this community.
