I got off to a pretty good start with founding my 2nd and 3rd cities early. Was able to hook up Copper, Ivory and Iron. Managed to waged a succesful war against the Romans then Catherine declared on me. She seemed to have a good counter unit strategy going so I took a free tech with a peace deal soon after capturing Moscow.
It just seems like I should be doing better. The games seems a little bogged down. Where did I mess up and what would help speed things up?

A quick review suggests: that you left slavery prematurely, that you are maybe (very maybe) putting too much emphasis on hammers, not enough on commerce, that you really ought to have an Academy in your capital by now, and that you haven't been planning for your great people.
On the last point: you've got a Great Engineer on tap, you are about three turns from researching Literature (which would permit you to build the great library, among other things), but instead you are researching Paper :smoke:

Thanks for the tips.
I won a domination vicotory for a final score of around 41k.
Just barely got to use a few Navy Seals before the domination victory kicked in. I will be trying Monarch soon.

Looks like somebody didnt need much help. With the AI so close it looks like it would of been hard to find a 4th/ 5th city at start. I think you should of gone more military from start. If all the AI is on one island less point going for religious buildings/ units when your stuck between so many other AI. Esp the Russians and Romans.
You should probably be trying Monarchy really. The AI are quicker at expansion on Monarchy but if you can churn out 4 cities by about 1800bc with new patch you'll walk it on monarchy with the axeman approach.
