Does anyone know how often the SGOTMs will be started? From what I am seeing it's not every month, should it not then be abbreviated SG!

I have never played a SGOTM before and it looks very interesting. I have been following the "Geezers" in this SGOTM. Going well guy's!:)

No, it's not every month. As you will have seen, very few teams can manage a game in a month. We'll start another one "real soon now" (TM)

We can't call it SG because that abbreviation is used for any Succession Game, and this is specifically a SG competition, run to GOTM rules. Why should there be one every month just because it has 'month' in its name? I suppose we could call it "Succession Game of the Every Few Months" (SGOTEFM), but it doen't have quite the same ring about it :p

SGOTQ

Would that make some kind of sence? I dont mind SGOTM, as I view the OTM not to be "of the month" but "of the Makers" or something.

Total respect for you guys the author and admin these games and this site...

SGOTQ would only make sense if we were committed to a game every three months. The last completed SGOTM for Civ3 was SGOTM 9 and we closed that one out at six months . At the other end of the scale, it may be possible for Civ4 SGOTMs to be completed in under 2 months given the appropriate map. Speed can also vary with the seasons. This is a relatively casual competition, and any fixed expectation for duration or frequency is a rope to hang ourselves on. I'd rather stick with what we have, but that won't prevent me from getting the :whipped: out if teams look like they are slacking

BTW, by my estimation about half teams allredy finished the game, but first spoiler contain only 4 records. In addition I notice that progress going slower and slower.
That indicate lost of interest in a game. I suspect main reason that it takes way to long for some team. I really do not see the point to allow that to go for that long time.

I would suggest put strong time limit, say 2 mounth at the start of competition so thinks do move along.

I think teams go slower as time goes on because the later turns are more complicated. (Although, in the case of my team, I think the speed has been nearly constant.)

As for policy, I suggest the opposite of whatever Mutineer suggests. :)

If I remember correctly your team lost 2 members from luck of interest.
I think you shoulf ferefit the game because of this reason.

I haven't (of course) read the other threads, but I assume that many teams have had one or more players drop out. I don't see what the relevance is. Setting a shorter deadline isn't going to reduce the number of dropouts. It's going to cause more people to drop because they can't keep up.

I disagree, and history shows that it isn't needed. Note that Civ3 SGOTM hasn't had a time limit and it's doing fine. Heck SGOTM9 lasted almost six months!

Half the teams are finished huh, yet aren't there around 19 teams! That still leaves a lot of people still playing. Besides, it's up to the SGOTM Staff to help move teams a long, not impatient players. ;)

I hope you were joking with this statement.

BTW Mutineer, the above quote can be considered as spoilerish, as now non-finished players know information about his/her team that we shouldn't.

In no way it is spoilish, it is not related to game.
For me it is a good idication, as there team was self created, not rundomly picked from the pool as my team for example.
My team finished with the same amount of player as we started.
If amount of active players fall below sertan level it's stop to be a SG, as it is mach easier to manage and coordinate 2-3-4 people then 8, so it is stop to be fair to full size teams.

Losing two team members is not unusual in a SGOTM.

Please don't discuss the activities or completion states of individual teams here.
