I have just spoken to someone at the Square Group (New Oxford Street) who has said that the Aspyr distributer here in the UK, Softline, have announced that Civ IV is at least two weeks away.

I hate being in Europe sometimes.

/as this is my first post I would like to introduce myself. I am Humpfredo, I live in London and I have been playing Civ since 1993-94.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

The Atlantic is very difficult for software to cross, apparently. My pre-order is on MacGold, and they have been forecasting July delivery for some time, so this comes as no surprise.

I too saw that at MacGold. However I follishly believed Amazon were telling the truth.

Is Mac Gold the fastest way to get a copy of Civ IV? Considering I work right next to the Mac Store on Oxford Street, and money aside.

I've no idea how fast Apple will stock it. I live a million miles from the nearest Apple store so they don't figure in my thinking. Online purchase is my sole source, as Central southern England is apparently a no-go area for major retailers.

My only related experience with Amazon was for Civ3 Complete. I pre-ordered on Amazon UK, and after it had been shipping for weeks in the States they were still pushing back the estimated deivery date by a week or so every week. So I cancelled and re-ordered on MacGold and got it less than two days later.

MacGold also deliver outside the UK if other Europeans have local problems, though it would be the UK version.

I'm not related to MacGold in any way other than as a satisfied customer on a single occasion.

In my experience for new and new-ish Mac games MacGold are fantastic...Amazon are slow (and frankly PC and PS/Xbox obsessed).

This is irrelevant to me until somebody actually runs Civ4 on a G4 system and reports accurately what it's like to play!

I love being European, I just hate being treated like a 2th class world citizen. (but who doesn't) ;)

2 weeks? Wow, that is soon! I was expecting a month. (I still am, actually) :coffee:

My preorder is now showing an estimated date of 12 - 20 July. Long enough for the first patch to be ready?

Watch out for the creeping date. My Civ3 Complete order eventually went to MacGold because Amazon UK consistently shifted their estimate.

you might be better off waiting, as opposed to playing the buggy version off the bat...hopefully they'll have a patch out soon.

The copy in the box is unlikely to change for a while. And a lot of users are finding it playable now, anyway.
