View Full Version : Granaries etc.
Blueberry Jun 28, 2006, 01:03 PM Hi!
I'm sure this has been posted before,
but I can't read every page of the forum.
What does it mean that granaries, markets and so on are available for free?
How do I get one for free?
When you research calendar the world map is centered.
But then when you save your game and load it up again,
it is no longer centered. How do you get it centered again?
:goodjob: This is a great game! I just wish there were more stone resources...

Where does it say this? Each trait has one or more buildings which only cost half the normal amount of production, but they aren't free (e.g. Expansive leaders can build granaries at half the normal production cost). No trait has markets as a half price building though.
There are a few of wonders that give free buildings in every city you have, but none of them give granaries or markets. (E.g Stonehenge gives a free obelisk in every city).
Or do you just mean that the buildings don't cost maintenance? No buildings cost maintenance in Civ 4.
When you research calendar the world map is centered.

By centering the world map, it means that your civ's position in the world is shown on your minimap. Prior to Stonehenge or the calendar it is just shown in the middle, regardless of whereabouts in the world it is. This shouldn't change with saving and loading the game. Are you sure you're not getting confused with the globe view? Just scroll out to see that once the map is centred.
Blueberry Jun 28, 2006, 03:14 PM In the buildings description in the civilopedia it says that granaries, markets and harbors respective are availebale for free in renaissence, industrial and modern eras and later on.
When you acquire calendar the maps zooms out.
When I load the game again, the map zooms in again.

are you talking about the main map where your cities and units are... or the mini-map???
It is the mini map that is centered, giving your position on the planet.

I think they are talking about games where you start the game from those periods, but you'll have to check that as I have not done this myself

I mean the main map.
Lars_Domus Jun 28, 2006, 05:16 PM I mean the main map.
You can zoom in and out on the main map with the scroll function on the mouse. You don't have to build Stonhenge or research Calendar to use this function, but you need one of them to zoom all the way out to the globe view.

Try starting in a later era, such as the Future Era, and you'll notice that your cities start out with several free buildings (and around 5 population for the future).
