Thanks with the help guys rpgundark Jul 11, 2006, 10:22 PM I read elsewhere that means you have a hacked version of the game. EDIT: found it http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=175562 EDIT: found another one LOL http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171532 am i wrong, or aren't people allowed to use a no-cd crack. sure, they can't use a pirated copy, as that's obviously illegal, but i thought the game's EULA says we're allowed to keep a back-up copy. true, most people using a no-cd crack have a pirated copy of the game, but there are also tons of legitimate users that don't want to shift through stacks of CD cases whenever they switch games... yvovandoorn Jul 11, 2006, 10:45 PM I am one of them. Whenever I buy a game I'd prefer to just play without the CD, maybe because I grew up with slow CD drives and what not. Still I swear load times are cut in half, in modern games, if loading from the HD instead of DVD drive. Zanmato Jul 12, 2006, 02:34 AM Unlikely as the game only uses the CD drive on startup, it doesn't use it again and again throughout the game. The game content loads from the HD, the CD is used to validate the copy in most cases. With the present CD/DVD speeds I don't think there is any need to use a no-cd hack. If the game is slow, try adding more RAM, upgrading other hardware or reducing memory usage in the game. A no-cd hack IS piracy, by using it you agree with the illegal practice(s) even if you do have a legal copy. That's just my feelings on it. superslug Jul 12, 2006, 06:03 AM No-cd cracks are considered piracy, which is something this forum has zero tolerance for. Thread closed. |
