The game was STILL loading.

How exceedingly slow is that? I already uninstalled, deleted all of the related folders, reinstalled and patched. It still loads slower than CAD on an Apple II. Any other ideas on how to fix this!?

First, a major question: does it load successfully in the end or does it freeze? Try disabling intro movies in the ini file. Defragment your hard drive.

Second question: does it occur for mods (only?). I experience really slow loading of some mods (e.g. FfH 2) (over 2 minutes of delay - dunno what for - and only then the initialization actually starts).

Third question: what is your computer? CPU, RAM, graphics.

Yes, it does eventually load. Intro movie doesn't exist for me, perhaps because I'm running the digital distribution version (Direct2Drive). I'll try to defrag...

I don't use mods at the moment. I have an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ with over 1GB RAM and a 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 XT.

Direct2Drive version, that eliminates also possible problems with your CD/DVD drive/media. Hmm. I guess even this version should have intro movies. Try disabling movies in the ini file. Also, try disabling audio and check if civ initialization is faster or not.

Actually it does have an intro movie, heh. I guess I always clicked past it without noticing.

No luck on the defrag... Am I the only one who loads slowly (but still loads)?

How full is your hard drive? Plus what size and speed (rpm wise) is it?

I have the same specs and it loads reasonably quickly for me.

Have you checked if your sound card drivers are up to date? It's a bit of a long shot but you have to look at anything and everything with some of these problems.
