Security Status: Caution. The channel settings reset when the last person leaves the room, which need to be reset every time the room is reoccupied. I am investigating a couple of options to remedy this.

Welcome to the Office of Fanatopian Communication. You are welcome to coffee or tea on the table to your right.

You may enter the chatroom through your favorite IRC client at:
server: irc.irc-chat.net
channel: #cfc_isdg
password: cute

If you do not yet have your favorite IRC client please click the chat link in the site menu above. Enter your forum name into the nickname list and click connect. You will enter the main chatroom. once there type in, without the quotes "/join #cfc_isdg cute" and you will join our secret chatroom.

Leaking the password is treason and is punishable by feather tickling.

Current projects: Improving security by either hosting my own bot on my computer or by seeing if the Guardian bot can enable these automatically.

10 steps to setting up Trillian 3.1 Pro (but these should work for basic as well)

Right click on the trillian icon in the tray, and select prefrences.
Make sure the IRC plugin is active in the plugin menu
Go the the connection menu, and make new irc connection.
The server alias is the name you want to call the server. I just use the name of the network, which is IRC-Chat.net, but you can name it whatever you wish.
Next line is the server address, which is irc.irc-chat.net
The next three lines various nicks and info. Just use your forum screen name for each. Also spaces are not allowed, so you will need to use an underscore _ .
Click the change button
Click Misc tab.
Check the box in the perfom buffer, and add to the following box /join #cfc_isdg whateverthecurrentpasswordis If you want to also join the main chatroom as well type in /join #cfc_isdg whateverthepasswordis;/join #civfanatics
Click connect

Should this be made sticky?

Should this be made sticky?
I'll ask for it to be when the game begins, as I've got a couple stickies/destickies myself; try to keep everything in one PM.

try

'/join #cfc_isdg'

then when you get there try

/pass cute

not sure that could work, my chat knowledge is very outdated

the proper syntax, after you enter the main chat room, is /join #cfc_isdg cute

EDIT: it works!

Right, the java client only allows one chatroom open at a time, so you have to leave #civfanatics to join ours.

We need to set up a time so that people could join and see if it works.

dumb newbie question...

Since you seem to be concerned about safety of teh chat room...ever thought about settign up a fake one( or if this one is breached) and using it for propogada. Or is that considered bad form..I mean if you know someone is reading your multiplayer spoiler and playing you why not give false info.

I am not suggestign to do this ...just a question since it seems some teasm have been implicated in previous unsavory action.

There is really no point. The chatroom is set so that a password is needed to enter, and is made invisible so it wont show up with a /list command (listd all non-hidden rooms) and a /whois which lists what chatroom someone is in.

BCLG100
Jul 13, 2006, 12:25 PM
and also, if we noticed someone we dont know in there i think we could just stop talking :)

croxis

Not just that, the ops can kick them out of the room and ban their ip, then change the password.

From Minister's thread:

post you avalability (and timezone) in the communication thread and I'll arange a time

Not for sure what day you are talking about, or even if this is the correct thread, but I'm available Thur 8 pm to 10 pm (GMT -5) and Friday 8 am to maybe 7 pm (GMT -5). If you're talking about today (which I highly doubt) I'm available until 10 pm (GMT -5).

I cant nail down a time to be available. It floats day to day. Easier for me to know when to be here BUT before 5pm CDT(GMT-5?) is bettter for me.

Might as well post it here too:
Pacific Daylight Time (GMT -7) (GMT -8 PST), same as you croxis. I'd prefer between 10:00am and 12:00am.

I would say everyone's invited, but let the president/Foreign Minister do the official chatting.
