I already made a search in this forum but the amount of answer is way to big to look at.
So here is my question:

Does CIV 4 (like CIV 3 had) have a way to choose the number of turn you want to play when you start a new game?

I looked in the book that came with my Mac game as well as trying to figure it out in the settings but found nothing.

By the way the game work great on my machine with I think all the settings up to the maximum (on a large map with "Epic" for the timeline).

I started 2 games and so far finish one in about 10 hours of play with only 2 more civilizations and at the easiest difficulty.
Thanks for any answer
Thierry

There's a setting during the game setup screens called Speed. It has four values:

Quick - 320 turns
Normal - 460 turns
Epic - 660 turns
Marathon - 1200 turns

There is a world of options if you set up a custom game rather than just hitting play now. Give that a try. You can, for example, choose to start at some later era than 4000BC.

Thanks Alan, I played already an Epic game. I will try a "Marathon" next time.

I saw them that's when I decide to play a "Epic" game. I did not know that the wording was associated to the number of turn. In CIV III the basic game had 500 turns and you could go up to a 1000.
Thanks for the info

Note that all the standard game speed settings start at 4000 BC and end at 2050 AD. It's just the years per turn that are adjusted, at different stages in the game. That's why the parameter is called 'Speed'.
