View Full Version : Come make MountCFC!!! (A CFC Sim City 2000 cooperative city project)
Perfection Jul 15, 2006, 03:34 PM Hey, again, y'all! You might remember CFCopolis (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=59332), the cooperative CivFanatics Sim City 2000 city, well now that it's complete I think it's time I started hosting a new cooperative CivFanatics Sim City 2000 city!
Like CFCopolis this one will be composed of 49 seperate entities united into one superdealie!
For simplicity I ave devided the rules into basic and advanced. The basic rules tell what you must do and what you must not do and is neccesary to build an area. The advanced rules are exceptions that you can use to add greater flexibility to your area, they are optional reads.
Basic rules:
1. The area you choose must be neghboring an already developed area
2. You must build within the confines of your 14x14 area
3. You must build a road and powerline conection to all undeveloped neighbors
4. You must not use additonal cheats (including ones that add more rewards), disasters, or scurk.
5. You must not add more than one of the following: stadium (limit 5 per city), reward, arcology
6. You must change the sign in your plot to the name of your area, your area name must include your username
7. You must not build a second area or screw with other people's domains or the budget window
8. You don't have to place water/subway elements, but you can if you want to.
9. You must not make something that violates forum rules
Advanced rules:
1. You may build on the the tiles adjacent to your area provided:
__A. All of the additional tiles that were water tiles are still water tiles (they must be basic water tiles, waterfalls or marinas)
____i. Coastline water tiles (those that face open ocean) cannot have waterfalls
____ii. Marinas and seaport docks can extend beyond the tile adjacent to your 14x14 area on Coastline tiles
__B. The land tiles adjacent to your 14x14 area can be built on or raised/lowered provided that the tile further out (the tree tiles in the case of those between two areas) is unneffected (no elevation changes, still has trees/no trees)
2. If you neighbor is the map edge and there is land on the edge you may make a road connection to the neigbor
3. You may make an additional connection to any vacant neighboring plot via rail or highway if you desire
4. You do not need to make a power connection to a neghbor that already has one
5. You may rename any item in your area but the following: Marina, hydroelectric power plant, wind power plant, big park, library, rail, subway station, and bus station
6. If you do not build an item listed in basic rules 5 you may do one of the following:
__A. Remove the additional sign from the corner and place it somewhere in your area (it can say whatever you want), unless it has been already taken
__B. Rename up to two of the items listed in Advanced tules 5 provided:
____i. Noone has renamed them before
____ii, You have the item built in your area
7. You may enact or remove any three ordinances except for nuclear free zone
8. You may relocate your sign before naming your area
Have fun!
Please note that these rules are subject to modification, and that I might make some seemingly minor requests for changes, please bare with me on this: Hosting these things can be quite difficult.

DaveMcW Jul 16, 2006, 04:43 PM I added lots of commercial and residential, we just need industrial now.
Perfection Jul 16, 2006, 09:07 PM :goodjob:, Dave
Now we just need some industry...
Shadowlord Jul 17, 2006, 04:56 AM Added a zone of almost entirely dense industrial: The IndusPark! Also includes one plymoth arco (IndusCorp HQ), four subway stations, and some weird roads and subways. I didn't unpause it, so the industrial area will stay bare until someone does :p.
I expect this industrial zone will scare away some of the people in 'conventional' residential areas, but hey, does IndusCorp care? I think not, since their HQ can hold 55 thousand workers. :satan:

polyphemus Jul 19, 2006, 10:10 AM i will soon fix it, thanks for making me aware.

SuperBeaverInc. Oct 26, 2006, 07:15 PM frankly I find it amazing this many people own sim city 2000, used to have it but I lost it
That's because SC2K is such an amazing game :p

Chairman Meow Oct 26, 2006, 07:41 PM eh... i lost interest after that damn monster came and shot up my city...
Yeah, that's why I always turn disasters off as the first act in building a new city.
SuperBeaverInc. Oct 26, 2006, 07:43 PM Indeed. I was always more interested in just building massive cities than doing anything else with SC2K. That's why I always turned off disasters and gave myself a ton of money using cheat codes.
Chairman Meow Oct 26, 2006, 08:50 PM What I often do is when I create a new city, instead of using cheat codes, get the city to the point where it's slightly profitable, and then turn on African Swallow, and let the money add up... It's easier than typing imacheat over and over.
Perfection Oct 26, 2006, 10:03 PM Plegh, I don't need to try to have massively profitable cities anymore, it's just second nature.
Hitti-Litti Oct 27, 2006, 08:02 AM City looks good! I have SimCity too, though it is not installed.

What are you waiting for?! Install it and add!
Hitti-Litti Oct 27, 2006, 11:01 AM I'm not sure could I find it. How old it is? I remember that it worked with our old computer, which was antique, so now it would run perfectly. I'll add if I install.
Perfection Oct 27, 2006, 11:03 AM I'm not sure could I find it. How old it is? I remember that it worked with our old computer, which was antique, so now it would run perfectly. I'll add if I install.
Sim City 2000 is 13 years old. If it's new enough to have a CD ROM drive, it can support Sim City 2000
Hitti-Litti Oct 27, 2006, 11:16 AM Yeah, if it worked on 200mhz 32mb machine it sure works with 2ghz 1gb machine. ;)
Perfection Oct 27, 2006, 12:29 PM I'm not sure though that the same versions will work, you may need to get your hands on the Special Edition (~5$ on the 'zon). I know that is XP compatible, I'm not sure about the older versions.

The Windows 95 version works fine in XP. If nothing else, the DOS version works acceptably well in DOSbox.
Hitti-Litti Oct 27, 2006, 01:27 PM I have 95 version. Maybe I'll install some day, gonna be a nostalgic moment.

WerBack3>>,
You area was in violation of basic rule 4 [You must not use additonal cheats (including ones that add more rewards), disasters, or scurk.], the offending statues have been replaced with trees. Feel free to come back and alter your area if you please to compensate for the violation.

mythmonster2 Jan 15, 2007, 06:35 PM Well, after my introducing to this thread I have made an addition to Mount CFC! It is called Mythmonster2's fortress!
EDIT: Doh! Just realized I forgot to name my place! Can the next participant rename my place to Mythmonster2s fortress?
Perfection Jan 15, 2007, 11:58 PM I had to make some larger tweaks to your area, notably the adding of road connections to two of your neighbors.
Other then that added name and water, looks good!
dimaliok Jan 18, 2007, 05:04 PM every 5 entires we should get a picture

Genocidicbunny Jan 19, 2007, 09:10 AM then get SC2K!

Bacon King Feb 03, 2007, 12:17 PM I've made my space.
Souron Feb 05, 2007, 02:25 PM Can we make a tunnel under area 1, in order to make a road connection to a neighbor?
Perfection Feb 06, 2007, 04:29 AM I've made my space.Excellent :goodjob:
Can we make a tunnel under area 1, in order to make a road connection to a neighbor?Interesting question. I'd say yes but under the condition that the occupant of plot 1 may choose to destroy it if it is in an inconvenient location.
Synsensa Feb 09, 2007, 10:40 AM Why are you guys using Sim City 2000? Why not 3000? Or 4000? Those last 2 are much better in my opinion. I think 3000 is like, 5 dollars now.

Because SimCity 2000 is the best version of SimCity ever made and it can run on just about any PC built since the days of MS-DOS.
Besides, SimCity 3000 was a pile of crap. SimCity 4 is better than 3000, but it requires a decently new computer to run on, and not as many people have it as have an old copy of SimCity 2000 laying around.

Everyone has their own thoughts. When I had Civ 2, it looked worse than one of the first games ever made for Windows 95.
Chairman Meow Feb 09, 2007, 01:30 PM Everyone has their own thoughts. When I had Civ 2, it looked worse than one of the first games ever made for Windows 95.
Even so, you can't seriously say that SimCity 3000 was better than SimCity 2000...
Synsensa Feb 09, 2007, 01:32 PM Yes I can.
Perfection Feb 10, 2007, 07:50 AM Why are you guys using Sim City 2000? Why not 3000? Or 4000? Those last 2 are much better in my opinion. I think 3000 is like, 5 dollars now. There's a few short reasons
1. I like SimCity 2000 better
2. It's an extremely popular game and many people have copies of
3. SimCity 4 is time-consuming, something that can't be run on every computer
4. Small file sizes means I can store these as attachments without deleting my old stuff.
But the biggest reason 2000 is just a much better version for these types of games. 3000's city center effect makes obtaining nice buildings at the beginning difficult, and 4's density caps requires extensive game modding to fix. Also, the greater neighbor effects (especially respecting polution) makes it much easier to severely screw over your neighbor's nice area with something profane (like the Toxic Waste Dump/Conversion plant. The solution (buffering with water, decreases city sizes and requires bridging, which can be rather irritating in 3000/4 (due to the heavy terraforming involved).
I should note that both 3000/4 have had failed attempts at starting a game wheras 2000 has already demonstrated its sucess with CFCopolis (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=59332).
madviking Feb 10, 2007, 09:10 AM Added my piece of suburbia:
sirtommygunn Feb 10, 2007, 10:05 AM i lost my city due to my lack of use of it and that was because i didnt understand how to play it ive found it but i probobly wont get much
Perfection Feb 10, 2007, 11:19 AM There were a couple of issues with your area, one (partly) my faullt. You needed a connection to your neighbors so I put them in place at the cost of some of your buildings, you can adjust if you like.
Additionally, the statue is not in the rules as it has already been placed. Somone previously SCURKed and so it appears on the menu even though it is not supposed to (I just now realized it). I've been playing around with a hex editor but I haven't figured out how to fix it yet so in the meantime people are going to just have to ignore the statue option in the rewards menu, it has already been taken.
DaveMcW Feb 10, 2007, 12:08 PM Just raze & rebuild homeyg's statue. ;)
Chukchi Husky Feb 17, 2007, 03:41 PM I did something like this before, but I decided to try a better one.

Genocidicbunny Feb 18, 2007, 11:58 AM You made a gfx set for perf? Nice one CH
Hikaro Takayama Aug 13, 2007, 05:46 PM Hmmmmmm.... This is really wierd because I managed to save my brother's old MS-DOS copy of Sim City 2K from the dumpster not more than a week ago and was wondering if it would run under XP (kind of a hit-or-miss proposition with DOS games.... Thus far, I've found that of the DOS games I've tried, DooM, DooM II, Jill of the Jungle, and Wolfenstein 3D DO work, but Star Wars: Dark Forces, X-wing Collector's CD-Rom and TIE-Fighter Collectors CD-Rom DON'T work....)
I may have to install it and get it up and running now... My brother and I used to waste so much time on it (He ran it on his Packard-Hell 486sx 25 MHz computer with 4 MB of RAM.... A top of the line system in 1993....)
Perfection Aug 14, 2007, 04:28 PM I haven't been able to get the MS-DOS version working on XP, but the special edition will most certainly work. You can get it online for like $5.
Also, awesome work, C_H
Hikaro Takayama Aug 14, 2007, 05:52 PM Well, someone earlier mentioned that the DOS version runs fine in DOSbox, so I'll just download that and try it out that way so's I don't have to buy the game twice....
Hikaro Takayama Aug 15, 2007, 12:08 AM Well, got the game installed off floppy discs, and loaded DOSbox.... Everything works fine (even sound!).
I added my section, but for some reason if I try to put a wind turbine on top of where my signpost is, it deletes the sign.
Anyways, I've attached my changes, which, hopefully, should follow the rules.... My section is labeled "Takayama Electronics" (which is what I call my RL Steampunk-themed electronics endeavors), and is a real powerhouse (literally!) with 4 sets of hydro plants, two solar plants, and a wind farm.
I also Added a college, which I renamed "Tesla University", and added rail and road links to a neighboring town....

Swein Forkbeard Feb 29, 2008, 06:41 AM So in SimCity 2000 you get to make a city AND all of its surrounding areas?!
Well, nothing against the 25th best video game ever (according to IGN.com, that is).
SuperBeaverInc. Feb 29, 2008, 10:19 AM In SC2K you only get to make once city. They way MountCFC is made the single city is divided into multiple tiles so that we can all build one.
I don't know about SimCity 3000, but in SimCity 4 you can build a city and then different regions.
Sub Feb 29, 2008, 10:41 PM Sim City 3000 didn't have regions. You could connect to neighboring cities, but you couldn't build neighboring cities.

Bratmon May 09, 2009, 07:25 PM Here. I made a prison.
patcoston Jul 03, 2010, 04:06 PM Search Google for simcity 2000 freeware and you will find lots of links to download SimCity 2000 which is now free. It's the DOS version so you may also need to download DOSBox. I use the Windows 95 version which is still works for Windows XP and Vista. I'm about to upgrade to Windows 7 so hopefully it will still work but Windows 7 Ultimate comes with XP-mode so I can always use that if I have a problem. SCURK for Windows 3.1 isn't working for me on Windows Vista. I hate it when old games stop working.
patcoston Jul 03, 2010, 07:20 PM Here is my addition to MountCFC. I selected Location 10 along the edge making connections to the neighbor with road, rail and highway. I even tried a Subway connection. My section is just for "passin thru". I have a single tile of high density residential, commercial and industrial. The rest is highway, rail, subway and bus. I got the highway to do this cool wave. It also forms steps down the hill. There's a tunnel under the highway and the train also goes under the highway using Sub <--> Rail.
Here are two screen screen shots.

Bacon King Nov 09, 2010, 10:02 AM Ah, I see that I added to this city when I was last active, about four years ago! I don't have a copy of SC2k anymore, could someone possibly post pictures?

I don't oppose this.
See you in another year, guys.

See you in another year, guys.
Well, eventually the city will be fully built, maybe? :D
mythmonster2 Nov 10, 2010, 08:47 PM Yeah, at this rate we'll be done before Civ 7! Keep up the fast rate, guys!
Macha Nov 13, 2010, 10:44 AM I don't have a copy of SC2k anymore, could someone possibly post pictures?
As one of the more recent people too add to this (only last year!), I can't even find my SC2k disc anymore, so I can't help you there.
EDIT: 2 years ago, actually.
2 years per page. This is like the opposite of that merge thread from a few years back, which was going at like 2 pages a minute.
Abaddon Nov 13, 2010, 08:46 PM We need a full screenshot!
Hygro Nov 13, 2010, 08:52 PM The problem with it being Mt CFC is that some of us are waiting to make the top one :mischief:
