Hello Folks, strike 3 an we may yet get off to a start!

We will kick off with the very first conqest and play right through them, you can come an go as you please, so if only a few of the conquests suit you, just join in then. In general we will play with one of the lesser civs, on emperor difficulty.

Oh, and if you think thats too easy or wotnot, this is majorly on the fun, as well as smashing the opponent.. one caption per turn log is the 1st rule!

I currently have no internet in my new home, so can one of you loverly chaps in the list below kick us off an get the ball rolling?

So yeah chaps, here we are.
I think our capital should be founded on the land next to the river..but it means losing one turn.
(stack:worker/warrior/settler)

wheat/wheat settler is perfect, but i dont want that as capital location- the land to the east is all poo, so its never going to be central enough.
(stack: scout/warrior/settler)

3rd settler.. hmmm.
(stack: worker/settler)

Care to share? i picked them because they didn't sound like a major to me.. but i can be wrong.

I suggest sodding the wonders (only newbs build wonders right ;) )

an go smash some heads :)

Evry1 ok with losing one turn capital city wise? an where should 3rd settler go?

Tribute
Jul 23, 2006, 06:16 PM
The Mycenaeans receive their own large portion of the map, being the only ones in that corner, from there they can easily raise high VP points through (defensive, just killing AI units) warfare or save a few large cities for wonder building and research power.

Abaddon
Jul 24, 2006, 02:51 AM
Right, im gonna place it quite close so all the wheats nearby will soon be used, and all citys are a turn appart for defence.

Then i'll blitz though my 20 turns, an hand over for someone to start then we take 10 each yeap? Will have it done by this evening (8.51am currently)

looked at the pix you put in the first page.

maybe we should settle all of our 3 settlers on the banks of the lake?
lots of food there, and we could use these 3 as worker-settler factories, while the new cities will provide the muscle?

soul_warrior
Jul 24, 2006, 07:52 AM
i would suggest we also get garnaries up ASAP in the prime 3?

not as a first build maybe, but certainly asap.

i would also try to pop a town on the seaside, so we can get them contacts soon.
much better than slogging in the long dusty way.

Abaddon
Jul 24, 2006, 09:25 AM
Hmmm, perhaps im being silly then, before our first settlers come out they could be swapped for Grans

What i've did ;)

Pre-turn – load up Eric Sumo’s new LP. Massive :D
Lower lux by 20%. Why you may ask? So do i!

IBT- pheonicia kicks us out.

1- Raga warrior > worker.
Change Babbling Brook from settler to granary.
We can trade for some 172g. no real need right now. So I wait.

IBT- nada

2- pheonicia get cuniform for 100g.
We can get myst now, but I don’t see the point of it. Later is better.

IBT - nope.

3- not paying for myst pays up goodtime!
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sw_myst.jpg
Build Drunken Furriae (has wines and furs) > rax.
Build FoodStamps > granary.
Up sci to 100. knock a turn of wateringholes.

Ibt- nada

4- up lux. Down sci a bit.
Farmstead worker > rax.
Pop a hut for 25g.
Got to suez.
No trades available.
Fiddle with sliders.

Ibt - a warrior almost dies to a barb.

5- IRRIGATION IS IN.
Now, a dilemma.
Horses or spearmen?
Our geography dictates horses, so I point it that way.
Due in 13 turns @ 100%.

Raga worker > rax (those BGs and hills will be nice shield sites)

Contact made with Cleo and Hanni (Egypt and hittieites)
Not too much money about.
Were up on everyone

Ibt- ZZzzz

6- not much

Ibt- ZZzz

7- same same

IBT - kicked out of Sumeria.

8- Babbling Brook granary > warrior.
Start roading RAGAs furs. Next will road the wines off Harran.

Ibt - babbling rock riots

10- fix towns.
Harran worker > rax.

HBR in 9. 20% lux.
We have 215g.
There is THE WHEEL out there. We can buy it and 36g from Babylon for any of our techs.

Not a good move; having foreigners in your cities leads to w/w problems if you go to war with their civ.

As I understand it, she/he meant to add the traded foreign workers to the city populations in order to speed-up Settler production. It not only creates the w/w problem that I mentioned, but it also increases the chances of your cities 'flipping'.

Abaddon
Jul 31, 2006, 03:59 PM
He is right im afriad, i bumped up city size by joining the workers.

Beorn-eL-Feared
Jul 31, 2006, 05:08 PM
I'm afraid joining workers is an awful move, from my standpoint. Better tiles is usually just as good as more tiles, early, and once you get 3+ fully worked tiles the extra pop shrinks to insignificance, then nuisance. More workers. More.

So just generally more expansion?

Have we decided how we are going to win?

soul_warrior
Aug 03, 2006, 05:33 AM
my understanding is that we were trying for a VP win (via wars)
that was why i started HBR (them ponies can live long)
my view is that our place (stuck on the north-east) far from the AI, demads fast troops (horses) and more expansion.

i started a few RAX builds, while were studying HBR.

for now, were quite safe.

i would suggest another set or two of expansion prior to war.

if we go for wonders however...
we need to crank those up ASAP.

i believe we can win this quicker via military...

I took the liberty of playing this, then ;)

One thing I noticed that threw me off my chair is mined despotic food boni. These problems have been set right.

We have uncovered a silk source NE, one settler underway, we have settled by a horse source and have now 2 luxes connected (wines/furs). A hut gave chariotry (don't think I researched that :p ) and we are headed towards the next government form.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/2001/loz1qz6.th.jpg (http://img266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=loz1qz6.jpg)

More settlers are going to pop, but if we are serious about a conquest kind of point VC, we should start mining and working the hills in core cities, make a horsemen army and go on a run. Archers are 3-1-1 so they are very good units for now.

If I read the map right, there should be greeks on the far north western side of the map, so I've been trying to pass a warrior through the hittites - without much success. Maybe 2 will do, maybe a war will do

Tech situation is: we have gold, they are broke. We know it, they don't. That's how it should stay, henceforth :D Horses out and ride on !

bad1 2100bc > 1800bc

preturn thoughts: expand, get ponies rolling, rax up.

drop sci 20%, still in 2, save 7gpt :D

booted by someone

1- Babbling brook warrior > rax.
drunker furriae archer > worker.
get 50g from a hut :bounce:
drop slider another 30%, now at +7gpt.

IBT CoL is in. Oligarchy due in 11 @ 100. losing 6gpt, 506 in bag.

2- Wheat hills settler > settler.
food stamps gets frisky, ergo taxman is hired till its hooked up.

IBT-

3- boring....
pheonicia has BW and Diplo. others have BW.
BW for our Horseback riding to Cleo. shes far away, might get frisky herself...

IBT-

4- Raga archer > archer. Harran archer > archer. Kampada worker >warrior.
build Amen, Brother > rax.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sw_140.jpg
find another african mudhut. its full of gold (50) :joy:

IBT-

5- Drunken Furriae worker > archer.
buil;d Gangsta Fillets > worker.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sw_141.jpg
cut the road to the hittite DYES. neutral country....
build Desert Outlook > warrior.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sw_142.jpg
CoL gets us Diplo and 25g from hitties, they are but a few turns away as is...
sell CoL around for another 100g or so.

IBT-

6- Babbling brook rax > settler,
lux goes up 20.

IBT-

7- farmstead settler > warrior.
Raga archer >archer.

ibt- zzz

8- lose a warrior to a barb.
pop a hut... we now know how to cut rocks :D
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sw_masonry.jpg
tweedle thumbs. one less turn in sci.

ibt-

9- Babbling brook settler > worker.
Farmstead warrior > warrior.
wheathills settler > settler.
pop another 50g in da huttie's cap.

missed a turnlog, but nothing big.

were up atleast 2 techs on them all.
oligarchy in 3.
we have a weak army.... but average with HITTITES...
tried to mend it, but we need lots more troopers.

Silks? Who cares for Silks? Iron, folks, Iron is what you need...
Have you checked the unit stats? Without iron, you won't get far. Spears are 1.3.1 units here, and your Horsies will barely scratch them.
Not to mention once the AI has Companion Infantry.
Oh, and the Medean UU is a Sword derivate.

Don't think this conquest is winnable (by military means) without Iron at all.

Unregistered Lurker's Comment

I agree with you Doc that you couldn't win this without Iron, but that doesn't show up until Iron Working in the second era. I'm sure the team will make that an early priority when they get into the next era.

Following Doctor's orders, I made a straight way to iron working. We only have one turn on it so far. We have all the cash we need to keep on going at full.

The myceneans bought our contact from the hitties, although I'm not quite sure with what; they didn't know cuneiform when we spoke.

We are an oligarchy (rolled a 2T anarchy) and I'm working hard on making irrigation canals everywhere: we have good hills, but without a few food tiles, a hill city can be quite miserable.

why are we building east rather than west?

West is lush land of grass and water
East is desert n rocks!

for example, desert outlook, will that ever realisticly contribute anything?

The enemy is to the west.. build towards them and crush them, we can backfill later if need be for milkage.

Oh, and my laptop had a faulty harddrive! woops so, no civ for weeks im afraind.. also uni starts up soon.. so a few busy weeks as things kick off.. though dont worry i will resserect this soon aswell as pm'ing everyone to kick some assesback into gear!

Right, its like this.. my laptop, having been formatted twice still overheats, and noone knows why. Because of this playing ANY game (even Railroads II!) causes it to overheat and switch off after about 20 mins of play.

Because of tihs i bought a cooling USB mat thingy, it got shipped from china, but i happened to be on holiday the week it arrived. As it was sent special post- after a week it got shipped back.. DOUH!

So, im going to PM around those who were playing- get the rota up again, placing me at the back.. and hopefully by the time it get around to me, i will have bought ANOTHER cooler :)

Your butt is mine
Gonna tell you right
Just show your face
In broad daylight
I'm telling you
On how I feel
Gonna hurt your mind
Don't shoot to kill
Come on,

Come on,
Lay it on me
All right...

I'm giving you
On count of three
To show your stuff
Or let it be...
I'm telling you
Just watch your mouth
I know your game
What you're about

Well they say the sky's the limit
And to me that's really true
But my friend you have seen nothin'
Just wait 'til I get through...

Because I'm bad, I'm bad-come on
(Bad bad-really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it
(Bad bad-really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-come on, you know
(Bad bad-really, really bad)
And the whole world has to
Answer right now
Just to tell you once again,
Who's bad...

The word is out
You're doin' wrong
Gonna lock you up
Before too long,
Your lyin' eyes
Gonna tell you right
So listen up
Don't make a fight,
Your talk is cheap
You're not a man
You're throwin' stones
To hide your hands

But they say the sky's the limit
And to me that's really true
And my friends you have seen nothin'
Just wait 'til I get through...

Because I'm bad, I'm bad-come on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
And the whole world has to answer right now
(And the whole world has to answer right now)
Just to tell you once again,
(Just to tell you once again)
Who's bad...

We can change the world tomorrow
This could be a better place
If you don't like what I'm sayin'
Then won't you slap my face...

Because I'm bad, I'm bad-come on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)

Woo! Woo! Woo!
(And the whole world has to answer right now
Just to tell you once again...)

You know I'm bad, I'm bad-come on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad-you know it, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know, you know, you know-come on

That's what I meant with "updated his last roster". I meant the roster from this thread. Because before I made that post I was in lightblue and with MIA near my name, but after my post I was in bold and black.

Ok, I played.

It's 2:00 AM and I am very tired. I don't think I played bad though. I took notes about what happened. I have 3 screenshots, which I will post now. I will attach the save and a very small summary of the most important events. It's up to you all if you consider that I played or if you ignore this post until tomorrow when I will post the turn log.

<<<The Save (http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/9/11/213506/Bad01-Mirc-1040BC.SAV)>>>

I didn't know if was supposed to play 10 turns or 12. I played 10, so now we are in turn 88. At the begining of my turn set, I noticed 4 Enkidu Warriors entering my territory. I tried to stop the AI, but the Sumerians declared war next turn.

I hate it when the AI is sneaky. But I am smarter than the average AI, so I placed the Horsemen that I have for now good enough not to allow any of their offenses to attack my defenses. I killed the 4 EWs the first turn. I kept on producing Horsemen and Warriors, because I had no Iron.

Managed to position my troops, attack just when necessary and avoid AIs sitting on mountains (there are a lot of mountains in our southeast, and Sumerians come from the southeast of out empire).

http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/9717/osobadfe7.jpg

Babylon establishes an embassy in our capital.

Two turns before turn 88, I managed to build Iron Mines of the North, which has 2 Iron sources! The workers have already built a road to the Iron, so exactly the turn after I built IMotN I had 6 Immortals already, and many cities producing them.

http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/3926/osomanyunitsmq0.jpg

We have very little gold, especially after the upgrades, and we must guard not to fall behind in techs. Right now we have just discovered Monarchy and we are not at all behind but we are very close to falling from a advanced civ to a backwards civ.

We have lots of cities, and (I think) biggest land area. If we are careful we might secure the part to the northwest of out empire (eastern coast of the Black Sea), which is very close to Babylon or Hitites, but which we might get if we move fast. I built settlers (about 5 of them) and there are still settlers built in cities.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5279/ourempirenq8.jpg

I strongly reccomend that we build a city right where the spearman is staying now. Be careful to keep at least one Immortal/Horseman/Archer near the city, and with the Spearman that's already there it should be enough to prevent losing it. It was very difficult to get that settler in there safe, but I managed and I think that forest tile would be a proper place for a city, right near the Sumerian border.

As I mentioned above, I will write a turn log probably tomorrow (actually today) evening.

If they start to become a problem, MAing with Babylon might be nessecary (but probably not). Also, see if the Hittites have contact with the Mycenaens yet. If so, get it. It will be one more civ that we can trade with.

soul_warrior
Oct 23, 2006, 01:30 AM
seems like a nice turn.

agree we dont need to get babylon in yet (though i was sure they would be the starting offensive)

why not hold sci down for a few turns? till we upgrade all our warriors?
how about leaving a town or two unconnected to continue warrior output?

what tech are going at now? the one after monarchy? giving companion infantry?

Delurking A couple of months ago I was inspired by this thread to play this conquest on the same settings as you guys. Funny thing - Sumeria declared war on me early on too, and I ended up getting Babylon on my side. The Sumerians should be fairly easy to defeat, especially if you get Babylon involved. Relurking

I know how you feel. I have a lot of homework also, as well as afternoon rehersals for the school play (which last until 6:00!), so I probably couldn't get anything done if I had the 1.22 patch. Well, it seems Abbadon and Mirc are the only ones able to play ATM then. :(

Then Abbadon is up?

Just a side note: today I had 9 hours in school, and finished at 8:30 PM. I got home at 9:30 PM. Tomorrow I have 10 hours of classes in school and I start at 8:30 AM which means I have to leave at 7:30 AM which means I have to get up at 6:45 PM after going to sleep at at least 11:30 PM. We have too many classes. If my turn is ever going to be in a Tuesday or Wednesday, either skip me or wait until Thursday.

All right people, I've got some good news and I've got some bad news.
The good news: I finished my 1.00 game.
The bad news: I CAN'T GET THE #$%^%*&(^)^&*()^*()*(&*^&^ 1.22 PATCH TO WORK!!!!!!!!! AAARGGGH!!!!! :aargh: :ar15:  [pissed]

Does anybody know how to make it work (and don't tell me to get a NoCD patch or something like that)?

Mirc

Exactly what error do you get? Gives you an error message and exists the game or what? Or do the buttons have messed up text (i.e. instead of "New Game" you have something like "0x00fh35g fortify pollution stage2")? Or doesn't it recognize the CD or the Civ3Conquests.exe file?

I thought the NoCD thing would give it away. Well, it's the very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very annoying, irrititatng, maddening, and evil message called "Please insert Civ3 Conquests CD, hit Ok, and Restart application." So, now do you know? :(

Please Insert CD:

Well, this one is difficult. It appears to be most prevelant immediately following patching of the game, and is most likely related to CD Copy protection used in the patches. Whilst unfortunately there is no definitive solution, we offer the following suggestions:

Firstly, the "official" line from Atari can be found here.

In a nut-shell, they suggest:
Disabling 3rd-party applications.
Making sure the CD is in the "correct" drive (if you have more than one).
Cleaning the CD.
Resintalling the program.
Modify the registry to point to the correct CD Drive letter.

Other suggestions that we have are as follows:
Only patch when you need to! If you get any of the compilation releases of the games (Complete, Gold edition, Game Of The Year, and even the PTW version released with conquests (although not C3C itself)), these come fully patched. Check the patch versions noted here, and if you already have the latest, then don't try to patch it!
Make sure you have the correct localised patch version: For PTW in particular, there are both US and UK patches for versions 1.21f and 1.27f. Some people have noted that they get this error following installation of the UK version, but not if they use the US version (and vice-versa).
Try updating your CDROM drivers: May help, may not. There is a list of possible drivers here, but you might want to search the net yourself. Also consider updating the ATAPI drivers.
Try changing the DMA settings: DarthS1d suggested this here:Hey, I just found a solution to the CD not found error when starting Conquests - I was running ot from a normal DVD-ROM drive, and didn't have any virtual imaging software. I went to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->IDE controller properties->Primary or Secondary channel, depending on where your optical drive is installed, and the drive access mode was "Multi Word DMA 2". I just changed it to "Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra33" and the game detected the CD! Not sure if this is a general solution or not, but hope it helps at least some people. It was driving me crazy not being able to play!

This is an ongoing issue. Please feedback any info you have on what works and what doesn't, as well as any new ideas so that I can keep this updated.

What's a 3rd-Party application?

2.Making sure the CD is in the "correct" drive (if you have more than one).

I only have 1 CD drive.

3.Cleaning the CD.

I'll try that, but it works on 1.00 after it doesn't work on 1.22, so I doubt it will work.

4.Resintalling the program.

I've tried that already.

5.Modify the registry to point to the correct CD Drive letter.

What does this mean?

Other suggestions that we have are as follows:

3rd party applics = daemon tools or others that simulate a cd drive?
all other applics that run in the background. such as EMule, internet, nero, etc.

if 1.00 still works, try uninstalling civ3. then reboot. then reinstall 1.00, loadit to check, then re-download the 1.22 version.
come to think about it. do you have 1.29 installed? it might be connected.
if NO > install it (1.29) then retry 1.22
if YES > uninstall it and retry 1.22

Well, cleaning the CD didn't work. Mabye I should try getting a new CD, though, because there are TONS of sctaches on the one I currently have!
Oh, and the third party applications thing. I'll try closing everything I have open, then retry playing, but I don't think that will work. And the solution you just suggested won't work either- I've already uninstalled in reinstalled vanilla several times trying ot get it (it didn't work after I uninstalled and reinstalled conquests, for some reason) to work, and it comes with the 1.29f patch. I don't have any more ideas as to how to make it work.

0- sumeria begs for peace. Nope.

1- an immortal dies. Kill 2 archers.

2- Build SUMERUIN. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_sumeruin171.jpg

3- Build URARTU. Immortals start getting out. Keep it up. Almost take a Sumerian town, lose archer and horse, kill enkidu and spear, leave a redlined archer there
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_ururtu172.jpg

4- Take ZABALAM. No loss. Kill some
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/soul_warrior/bad1_town1_173.jpg

5- Lose a horse. Attack ISIN, kill 2 enkidus, 1 archer left. Build ZARNAKA.

7- In the IBT, HITTITES demand astro. Im in no mood for a 2 front war, so cave and mark his name. BABYLON AND SUMER sign MPP.

8- Build Assersion. Move some new immortals towards the Babylonian frontlines. Just in case.

9- We get MILITARY TRAINING (companion infantry…) set for HORSEMANSHIP (in 8.)

summary - lost a few horse (5-8?) and 3-4 immortals.
took 2 towns, with troops amassing to get rid of the rest.
we are very comfortable militarily.

we have companion infantry.

babylon and sumer have an MPP, so we need to make the babilon border stronger.

Not sure I care to play any of the scenarios. I have not played any from C3 or PtW or C3C. If you want to get it going again I would think you should have posted an I got it.

The way it is now, it looks like you are not even going to play. Is it being played as an always war? I ask as it looks like troops are going up in nearly every town.

The towns are not laid out for AW, was this mostly the way the game starts? Anyway if Overseer wants to finish it, I may help him. Right now I not wanting to play civ every day.

If you get involved with two or three SG's you are going to be stuck playing most days. I already am in Rod02. BTW I could not figure out the cost factor for the research in this game. One of the things I think is annoying about the scenarios is all the modifications.

The tech calc tool did not match up with what I got by hand, nor did either match up with CAII. That is why I was not sure what the cost factor is for this scenario. It is close, but not exactly.

The size is strange as well as the world tiles is way over what you should get from a small map. I guess it is not a true small 80x80 and was made by hand. The thing is the tool I use has a txt for all the std scenarios.

Is this the Meso map?

TheOverseer714
Mar 29, 2009, 02:00 PM
I have played this scenario before, as Egypt(wonder victory) and the Greeks(vp victory). The one good thing about the scenarios is they are short, and this one looks like it is about 20-40% through. The Medes are good for military victories. Let me try a turn-set and I'll see if it is winnable from where it is.

TheOverseer714
Mar 29, 2009, 07:08 PM
It isn't AP, but it looks like the AI is building at DG level. This SG is probably not winnable, with 60 turns left, I just built the first Army, and the Wonders are getting built. The only real chance is to get out and capture enemy cities.

TheOverseer714
Mar 29, 2009, 09:38 PM
I played 8 turns to get us to turn 105. I think this one will probably be lost via wonder victory unless we get some serious pwnage soon to capture some. BAD NEWS> sumeria has 2, as does Phoenicia. It could still be won with lots of Military victories, but as far as I can tell, only 2 wonders remain unbuilt. Anyway, here is my turn-log:

Pre-Flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Open the save, look things over.
Bad news, this game is past the halfway point(turn 97 of 160), and we’re in second place. Lots of Wonders being built, and that’s how this scenario is usually won or lost. It can be won by Victory Points(beating opponents up and tech being researched, or building more wonders.

Harran Settler=>Spearman.
Food Stamps Companion Infantry=>Barracks.
Iron Lion? Burial Mound=>Spearman.
Hillock Companion Infantry=>Companion Infantry.
Babylon builds the Mausoleum of Masollos.

Turn 2, 820 BC: First attack this turn, killing an Enkidu guarding a Sumerian settler, nets a Great Leader, Deoices.
Maybe our best chance of winning is armies. Otherwise, try to get ready for attacking into Sumeria, which gets Babylon against us.

Kill the redlined Bab Bowman that razed Parataika.

IBT: Bab Bowman finds our Scout, bye dude.
Food stamps Barracks=>Companion Infantry.

Turn 6, 740 BC: Kill an EW with an eImmo, no leader.

IBT: Sumerian Archer kills an Immo. But our Spear wins….lovely.
4 Bab Bowmen appear to our east.
Harran Spearman=>Archer.
Kampada Companion Infantry=>Archer.
Riverfront Worker=>Burial Mound.

Turn 7, 720 BC: Destroy as many Sumerian Archers as I can. 6, I think.
Try to get some attacker to the East.
Kill 1 spear at Eridu, losing a Companion Infantry in red-lining the other.
Settle Catpatuka up north.

IBT: Sumerian Archers lose twice this turn promoting 2 Immos.
Bab Bowmen gather another one, 5 of ‘em now.
Research of Horsemanship gives us a leader! Next is City Planning.
Babbling Companion Infantry=>Cavalry.
Wheat Hills Companion Infantry=>Companion Infantry.
Raga Companion Infantry=>Companion Infantry.

I think this can be won, IF I understand the rules and that may not be the case. First the game appears to end once all 7 wonders are build. The Great Light House is the stopper for that one.

Then it ends if all are dead, I guess.

Then if you have 160 turns or 5500 VP.

It looks like the only thing that cannot be stopped is the 160. So if you get the Pyramids, and grab one or more nations, you should move to first place in VP.

I do not know if you would win with the most VP or the most Wonders. If VP, then you have a shot.

My question would be what the heck was the plan in the first place? The towns are not laid out to facilitate working on any victory or anything for that matter. You really need to go with CxxC or even less in this game as it will not last long enough to use more tiles anyway.

In the 860 save they have spears and warriors going up, rather than more powerful attackers. Not a single wonder was built? So I am confused, maybe I do not understand the scenario.

Yes, once the last wonder is built, the game ends. The winner either has the most wonders or the most victory points. Right now, it will likely be Phoenicia.

Then it ends if all are dead, I guess.

Very nearly impossible, with this map.

Then if you have 160 turns or 5500 VP.

It looks like the only thing that cannot be stopped is the 160. So if you get the Pyramids, and grab one or more nations, you should move to first place in VP.

It almost never gets to turn 160. The VP victory may be our best bet. Kill enough enemies and capture enough cities and the VPs rack up fast. We have an SGL, which I had planned to use for the ToA, but that went in the cascade. 3 turns of research should give us the Pyramids with that leader.

I do not know if you would win with the most VP or the most Wonders. If VP, then you have a shot.

Win lots of battles in a short time and win the game.

My question would be what the heck was the plan in the first place? The towns are not laid out to facilitate working on any victory or anything for that matter. You really need to go with CxxC or even less in this game as it will not last long enough to use more tiles anyway.

The plan was never spelled out, and honestly, not sure if there was a plan. This is one of the most ad hoc SGs I've ever seen. Good people with no plan.

One of the reason I did not play the scenarios is that you cannot even scroll the map around to see all the tiles. I had forgotten that.

Yeah, there is no shot at taken them down form here. Once the GA ends, you will be in trouble. I revolt would probably be needed. Getting the Pyramids is a lock, but not sure if you can do much with that, even if you make the lighthouse.

vmxa
Mar 31, 2009, 10:04 AM
Right off the bat I do not understand why the settler that founded Babbling Brook was moved to that place. The better moved would have been to move the tile next to that spot, along the river.

You then are stealing fewer tiles form the capitol. You get the fur into the empire sooner. You are gaining more tiles for your empire.

The other starting settler looks to have been moved many tiles? Like you say I know a few of the players, so I am not sure why these things were done. If this was just a normal amount of turns and no wonder or VP, then you could do anything you want at Emperor.

The VP and Wonder and 160 turn makes every move and action much more important as at least one nation gets a decent head start.

Anyway I played about 15 turns and was able to have a large lead in VP. 3960 to 2430, so the game can be won, if VP beats Wonders.

I am not using the computer I played on yesterday, so I do not have the log. Mainly I just razed some towns of the red guys (babs?). Killed a few stacks of 6 units both red and blue. I did trade a tech.

It looked like no one is working on the Lighthouse as they do not know the prereq tech. I shutdown some of the builds for things like mounds and settlers that are 30 turns out. We don't have enough time for that and once the GA ended, they would take even longer.

The first two turns were the trickiest as two or three stacks of 6 were closing in and it was not easy to get enough help.

I would say just mark it down as a win and start a new one. BTW as usual losses came on counter attacks. I would wonder if this game would not be easiest to win by making about 12 towns and then killing as many as you can find.

The VP is:

Wonder * 25
kill unit * 5
tech * 5
conquest city * 100
special unit 1000

I do not know what a special unit is, so do not know if there are any. The conquest may mean capture or raze, not sure. I did not capture any, so raze seems to apply.

I do not have the log form yesterday, but here is today's.

570BC:
Killed a Sumer archer. 3970
Killed a spear in a Bab town for 75 gold. Now have 4080. I see 100+3970=4070. So I guess 10 for spear or archer to get to 4080.
Kill Sumer archer 4090.
Kill Bab bow and warrior 4105. Looks like warrior is only 5.
Kill Bab spear 4115. Next close is 2490.

Egypt and Hittites DOW.
Barb up rise near Catpatuka.

IBT:
3 bows attack. First dies and makes cav red. Second dies and promotes horse. Third retreats horse.

560BC:
4135/2490. So they did no killing.

kill Camp Inf (CI) 4160 (25).
kill Hit archer (4170).

550BC
kill two Sumer archers 4190/2490.
kill 2 Bab spears and destroyed Eulbar and liberated 82 gold.
Two workers inside. 4345.

I upgrade a red horse for 30 gold, we have plenty thanks to the Babs.

The barbs are just not up to attacking right now, so I let them wait.
I do not know if they are worth points or not.

kill Sumer archer 4355.
kill Bab spear 4365.

IBT:
lost a Ci. 3man dies attacking town.

540BC:
Start Ship Build.
Found town

kill 3 Sumer archers and get a leader and form army. 4460
kill 3man 4480.
kill 3man 4500.
kill 2 more Sumer archers 4520. Used the new 2nd. Will fill next turn.

1st is nearly healed and is between two settler pairs. So we will raze at least one next turn. This game is a lock, even with the Hittites coming. Needing less than 1000 points and will have 2 armies.

3/3 CI kills CI across river and goes vet. I had a horse to finish if needed, that is why I risked the 3/3. 4545.

IBT:
Win one and lose one. 4555/2540

530BC:
kill 2 Hit archers 4575.
kill another 4585. Made 2 elites so far this round.
kill 2 more archers 4605.

archer kills bow 4615.
cav kills Sumer archer.
1st kill Sumer pair 4650.

kill Endu 4655. Wow only 5, guess it is the same as warrior.
2nd kills 2 Sumer archers and get an elite 4675.
kill Bab CI 4700.

520BC:
kill Bab spear 4710.
kill Hit archer 4720.
kill Sumer archer 4730.
kill another 4740.

kill Sumer spear 4750.
kill Bab spear/settler 4775.
kill 3man and warrior 4800.

IBT:
Get three kills and lost 1 warrior on defense 4830/2540.

510BC:
kill 2 Hit warriors 4840.
kill 2 spears in Uruk and raze for 1 slave and 102 gold 4965.
kill Sumer archer 4975.
kill Bab spear 4985.

2nd kills two Sumer archer 5005. Crack 5k.
5/5 Ci kills Hit spear/settler and I disband slaves as they are too far from home and 3man is near. Probably will lose the CI as it is now 3/5. 5030 not sure if settler get 15.
kill 2 Hit archers 5050.

kill two more 5070.
kill two more and both go elite 5090.

IBT:
Two Hit archers attack cavs and die and both cavs go elite 5110/2540.

500BC:
kill 3man and warrior 5135.
kill warrior 5140.
kill Sumer spear 5150.
2nd kills two spears in Lagash 5170.

490BC:
kill Sumer spear 5180.
2nd kills one and razes Lagash. Disband slave we have 5590, so I guess that does it.
kill 3man 5610.
kill Bab CI 5635.

kill Hit spear 5645.
kill 2 bows 5665.

Ship will be done on the IBT.

I am always glad see someone get more out of the game. Right now I am a little sour on SG's as they seem to stall so frequently.
