Is anyone else absolutely itching to get at this game? I cannot wait!! I saw it available for preorder in my local Game superstore, and had to preorder. Anyone else?

Well, I tried the demo for that Glory of the roman empire thinhg a while ago, it sucked, so I'll probably get this, maybe. I don't know much about it to be honest.

I'm pretty exited. Is not it supposed to go out today?

It should be but I think it's gonna suffer the same fate as Warlords. I'm still gonna check out some stores when I get off work though.

What fate is that? It hasn't even been released yet. (another 11 hours).

Today is just the shipment date.

My bad. I go by what Gamespot says and they say release date is the 24th. I guess I'm interpreting release date a little differently then them.

I have been looking for info online, and nothing. The firefly CivCity website has been revamped this week. Everything still says July 24th, HOWEVER, EBGames.com has it listed as backordered.

I would like to see how the feature to peep into houses works!

Just picked it up at EB Games. There's about 80 structures excluding things like roads, houses, and decorative structures. What is cool is that there are these animal holding stations for arena fights. I think there are 6 differnet kinds. Crocodile fights!!! I haven't tried pitting a killer ostrich against a leopard yet. It should be possible.

-There are 72 techs spread across 6 disciplines.
-Each citizen has a sundial that tracks work time and free time.
-There are 8 wonders
-You can build temples to 6 gods

The one immediate qualm I have is that the GUI is way too large.

It's been a while since there has been a decent city builder, so I'll definately give this a try.

After playing this game for a day I have the following opinions

Pros:
-The best houses need about 32 resources to elevate themselves which adds the greatest space management challenges in a Civ builder game yet.
- Researching is a great addition to this genre
- Work time/free time is a more realistic feature in that when the sim is working, he/she cannot pick up goods.
- Each house tracks its members. It starts out with 1 man. Then he gets married. Then they have kids and in the top echelon, they start getting slaves. These other sims can handle the resource pickups while the man is at work.
- There is a green sphere of influence that shows you who can reach a certain resource building. This is better than the tile estimations you had to do for Caesar/Pharoah/Zeus.
- Seeing inside structures is interesting. There is a lot of neat animation but so far, I think it's only used to see if your worker is idling. However, rotating the camera can only be done horizontally. Therefore no overhead view and most of the times, the walls will block 50% of your view into the building.

Cons:
- I found a bug already in the 3rd City of the scenario. You can click on a building to get details. However, it is not synched up during this mission. You actually need to click an inch next to the structure in order to get the popup. I didn't notice this bug in the sandbox mode or the first two missions.
- GUI is huge even playing at the highest resolution. I guess I'm used to the Civ4 text/icons.
- You have to customize anti-aliasing through the nVidia/ATI panel. It should have been in the options.
- The 6 god's temples look exactly the same except they use Mortal Kombat coloring. They don't seem to do anything different; it's just that houses need access to different temples in order to advance.
- NIMBY is not in the game. Aesthetics is calculated globally meaning I can put gardens in one corner of the map and houses on the other side and it still effects happiness. Putting houses next to your warehouses does not both people either like in the Impression games. It actually is beneficial because that is where your people retrieve their goods.

This game seems very different from the Impression games so I suggest you wait for the demo if you can only get this or Caesar 4 and not both. Caesar 4 looks graphically superior and it may appeal more to those of you who liked how Impression/Tilted Mill did things.

I was planning to buy it since I’m a great fan of city building games but searching on the Internet I realized there’s no official forums and no fan sites so I’ll probably wait a couple of months and see. Then of course, Caesar 4 is released. One of the two official Caesar 4 forums have been up and running for over a year. Two different ways to treat customers.

The water looks terrible. It's counterpart, Glory of the Roman Empire had beautiful water. Although that game isn't as deep, though by much.

I'll keep my eye on Caesar IV, Civcity seems a little thin to me. Fun though.

And the advisor keeps telling me my granary is empty every 2 minutes. I'm turning that bastard off and replacing it with a podcast.

Will you be able to mod this game as much as Civ 4?
As developed as some games are that are produced by Sid Meier and Firaxis,
I found this game really good, but rather plain.
Let me know what you think.

I don`t think it`s even out yet, so i coudn`t tell you. I hope you can as i do love a city builder. Of course if your into City builders then maybe look at Ceasar 4 thats also out soon. Ceasar 3 was a fantastic game and gave me months of enjoyment ;)

It is released. I picked it up today, along with Warlords.

I've yet to try it out, though. I love empire- and city building games :)

Caesar 4 is coming out soon as well :)

I got it today - went looking for Civ4:Warlords (which I also found, last copy in bedford, yo.) but I'm a sucker for ancient city building games.

I dont know...I have seen it and it seems to lack the depth that you would associate with the engine. I just dont think it will end up being an all around good game like Civ IV though i think it will be fun for a while it wont have much replay value though.

I am actually suprised that it was not well advertised. I knew about it from this site but i have seen little or no advertising for the game.

I got the game today, it's great!
I like how you must find some way to build up your city, but I have the problem with there being too many things to build, or not enough to keep my citizens alive.

However, it is nifty to see my Roman citizens running around. I'm glad that I bought it.

I'm a tester for the game, been playing it for a few months. Wrote a brief review over at Apolyton's forums (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=4528462#post4528462) in case anyone cares. In summary: it's a fun little game, probably not the best city builder ever (but I haven't played all that many to be honest so I wouldn't really know), but I enjoyed playing it.

The water looks terrible. It's counterpart, Glory of the Roman And the advisor keeps telling me my granary is empty every 2 minutes. I'm turning that bastard off and replacing it with a podcast.

I was annoyed by this as well when I first started playing, until I figured out that not only your housed citizens eat food, but unhoused ones as well -- and they only eat from granaries, not from shops. So always keep one or more granaries well-stocked on top of what you need to get food to your housed citizens, it'll keep your unhoused people happy and you avoid those stupid messages ;)

Will you be able to mod this game as much as Civ 4?

There's a decent map editor, most of the game stats and mechanisms are exposed in XML and Lua (a scripting language similar to Python) and the art and sound resources are in common formats, so it should be every bit as moddable as Civ4 (bar the SDK, I doubt they'll release one for this game).

Unfortunately AFAIK there are no dedicated fan sites for this game, so I'm not sure if we'll actually see many people publishing mods.

Why not try www.civcityforums.com . This isn't the 'official' forum but it is very slick in the style of the 'Heaven Games' forums and has been visited by some of the devs, who have given help and suggestions. There are plenty of people discussing mods. Hope this helps. My copy of the game should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait. Never mind the reviews, I'll make up my own mind. :)

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely be following that forum :goodjob:

Wow, that site really hit the ground running!! It only went online 3 days ago but already is the #1 hit on google, has hundreds of posts and several designers posting. Most webmasters can only dream of such a start...

Thank You so much for the link!

I wasn't going to post (the other, ignorantly critical, CivCity thread was a downer) but here's a couple of fun things not yet mentioned:

You can move houses around at will. You can also reassign jobs, but moving is usually easier when the homeowner is too far from his work. The first dwellings are "country" huts/hovels that upgrade in place. When you achieve the upgrade from large hovel to small insula, you must manually move the house to a new lot or to become the second story of a downtown business! The latter is desirable because it frees up much needed land. Finally upon the upgrade from large insula to small domus, the house must again be relocated to the "country".

I'm enjoying this game alot and hope people will try for themselves before deciding.

Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for. For you nay sayers.

"Oh it's just another city builder" Big deal..... If you like city building you'll like this game. Yes it's like Caesar, but there are many differances to keep your attention.
