Sierra's Lords of Magic remains one of my all-time favourite TBS games. Has anyone else played it? Still have it?

Might be interesting to see if multiplayer actually works. =D I never got the opportunity to.

Funny thing is, you spend all kinds of time building up and building up and building up...just for one confrontation at the one (1) building you can take (the capital city) to remove that nation from the game. Yet it remains fun playthrough after playthrough after playthrough... It's uncanny. I should reinstall it...

I played the demo once, way back when it came out. Wouldn't mind to give multiplayer a shot, but of course i'd have to get the game first...

*snip*
Ain't nobody here but us legally purchased games.

(For those who didn't see the original post, no, I wasn't offering download links or anything dumb like that)

I actually might have gotten the game as a part of a collection. Will have to call my family and ask them to check my cds.
Anything piracy/abandonware related is against the forums rules, so it is best not to touch the subject at all. ;)
If i don't have the game, i'm sure its on sale for 1€ on ebay anyhow.

Really? Abandonware, against the rules?
But isn't the point of Abandonware that the developer doesn't give a squat? Still, I'll respect that and edit my post to not mention that stuff.

By the way, I just looked it up and the multiplayer is TCP/IP - so yeah, it'll work. =)

I think abandonware is illegal unless the developer explicitly releases the game into public domain.
But anyway, i'll get back to you once i know whether the game is lying around at my family's place or not. ;)

I have the game but something about it seems off the control of the mouse is to fast I don't know what to do but would love to play the game again.

The screen pans too quickly? That might be because of in-game settings. Turning down mouse sensitivity in your control panel might also help.
Likely, it's just that you have a high normal resolution - and the mouse is just right for that, but it's way too fast for, say, 640x480. I've had that in a few games. =)

I had it up to a few years ago. It was working fine in Windows, but you can use DosBox I would think.

There is no such thing as abandonware in the US. someone owns the rights and you are in violation of the law to DL it. That said, I doubt anyone will be looking for you.

I thought that that only applied to U.S. copyrights? Then again, I guess it would be international if the game was actually sold in the U.S. so it would still apply. =/

The game could probably be found in any large used game store - apparently it's not a title that a lot of people kept, for some reason.

I think it is legal to get the abandoneware version if you boguht the origional, well, mabye not perfectly legal but semi legal. Something like that.

Nope. It's illegal to download any copyrighted software, whether or not you own it... It's legal to make your own backup of that software, though. But not distribute it.

I cannot recall the last time I found a copy in any store. You can try Ebay.

This was actually the first computer game I ever played, and I loved it. The time I spent playing it might even rival the time I spent playing Civ.

Unfortunately I lost my copy, but I have a friend that I could borrow it from if I wanted to.

We'll how effective your wavey hand movements are the next time I see my friend. ;)

It might not be for a while, though, so don't get your hopes up.

"Abandonware" isn't any sort of legal or official status... it's just a term that Internet dwellers came up with to refer to old games which are no longer supported or sold by their developers or publishers. As far as the law is concerned, the games are still copyrighted are are not legal to distribute freely (or for profit). Most developers/publishers aren't likely to bother to take legal action for distributing a game that they haven't made money off of in years, and have no plans to make a sequel to... but there's always a chance.
