View Full Version : Replays or simular?
Kazuma Jul 24, 2006, 07:39 PM Been playing around 8 or so games where 7 of em where FFA online games. Been having around half the score of the leader in most of em or just above half.
Thing is am not improving. I read strategy guides from here but to me its just details bunched together in a big pack. Extremly rarly any build/tech orders.
So is there any sort of replays in civ 4? Woude love to see some replays with "elite" players playing. I think it woude give me a big boost in understanding the game. Or a guide that goes alot into build/tech orders.
Also I dont like singleplayer to much, bit booring. And if I play team games its a big risk I screw em up.:P Btw if u feel ur a good player feel free to post some build orders if u have any standards.
Cam_H Jul 24, 2006, 08:10 PM I've only ever played as a single player, and unfamiliar with the differences associated with multiplayer games.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "replays", but two forums that you might get value from are the Game of the Month forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=165), where there's an open competition, and the Succession Games forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=168) where teams of people take progressive turns at the same game with some variant rules in place. Both, I've found, to be packed with good ideas. :)
Kazuma Jul 24, 2006, 09:28 PM Replays are when a played game are saved as a file and can be reviewed by anyone who has a the file.
Not sure if this feature exist in civ4 but it woude really suck if they dident make one.
Thx for the links tho, I ll check em out lather.
frago Jul 24, 2006, 10:11 PM There are replays but it is only the timeline graph like it shows at the end of the game. There are also various saves that can be used to pick up a game at a certain point.
But as far as a replay like a movie of a game you can watch play by play, no I have not heard of such a thing.
Like the previous poster said check out the succesion games and you can follow along in the posts move for move and load the different saves.
VoiceOfUnreason Jul 24, 2006, 11:06 PM You've also got Realms Beyond (http://realmsbeyond.net/civ/civ4-tournamentgamelist.html), if you want to see lots of variations on the same start.
As for viewing a saved game, as in watching a recording of the actual play - no, I don't think there's anything like that. You can get some sense of the flow from the game logs - there's a utility available to pull the log out of a saved game and write it to a text file - but even that gives you less than half the picture.

Could i ask why u cant do that..it saddens me because if you coudl that woudl be hell of a lot easier for noobs to learn.
Pogel Oct 18, 2006, 06:50 AM Read some of the succession games or other game threads like Sisiutil's ALC games or aelf's Emperor Masters' Challenges. They will be far more usful than a replay and come with save games at strategic points so that you can see what's going on if you want to.
The problem with replays is that they won't have commentary, so you'll just be seeing what the player is doing and won't know why. The above mentioned threads are better as they go into the 'whys' and also show some of the other alternative strategies at each point.
oyzar Oct 18, 2006, 07:13 AM the challenges are also great.

But with challenges they dont give u the full details etc..i prepher to see hand on 100% what he is actually doing. Challenges are just replays of that map.
MartinhoMukanga Oct 19, 2006, 07:04 AM you can also check aelf's Emperor Challenge Game. They were very helpful for me. Now he is on is third game and he is trying a trade route economy game.
cabert Oct 20, 2006, 05:32 AM for multiplayer, most of the game is war
So it's really about different things than what you'll see in the SGs or most of the links you've got.
Do you feel you miss something in your developpement (improvements, happiness, health,...)?
Do you lack agressivity?
Do you fail using the whip, the draftees, the right promotions for your troops?
Don't you get the hang for your researching?
On those points, you'll find infos in the forums.
On the specific problems of multiplayer, you'll find infos in some (few) specific strategy articles.
I remember 1 very good article on multiplayer (the mistakes you shouldn't do on multuplayer, or something like this...). I think it pretty much covers it.
davidw89 Oct 27, 2006, 12:49 AM no one is planning to release a replay version?
