View Full Version : Another eptathlon winner: Niklas!
ainwood Jul 29, 2006, 07:07 PM http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/Colossus.gifIt was unfortunate that the slowdown in getting the GOTM 55 results published directly impacted on Niklas having to wait for confirmation as to whether he had completed the "cow" award that he needed to complete his eptathlon. But I am now pleased to confirm that, "yes" - he did get it, and "yes" - he has now joined SirPleb, Ronald, DaveMcW, civ_steve, Mark Cutt and Megalou as classic GOTM eptathlon winners.
Congratulations, Niklas!
McLMan Jul 29, 2006, 10:45 PM Wow Niklas!
Up there in the rarified air.
Congratulations! :)
Ansar Jul 29, 2006, 11:23 PM Could you please explain what an eptathlon is? Sounds like a very big award. :trophy2:
fat-mans-reveng Jul 30, 2006, 01:28 AM I was actually searching through the forums a couple days ago wondering the same thing, and went all the way back to an Aug 6, 2005 thread that explains it. Seems when a player wins the fastest win award for each victory type, and also the cow award, he earns himself the eptathlon award as well.
So, in saying so, congrats! It's a hard earned award, but well deserved by the few who earn it!
Redbad Jul 30, 2006, 02:14 AM Congrats Niklas, well done.
civ_steve Jul 30, 2006, 03:08 AM Way to go, Niklas! :goodjob: You were racking up fastest win awards so quickly I knew it wouldn't be long!
tR1cKy Jul 30, 2006, 04:18 AM Well done Niklas!
AlanH Jul 30, 2006, 05:01 AM Could you please explain what an eptathlon is? Sounds like a very big award. :trophy2:
You really ought to explore some of the menu options on the gotm site (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/). It has a whole section devoted to the Pantheon of Heroes (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/pantheon/index.php). It provides records of medals and awards for all the games since records began, and on the Awards pages (fastest victories etc) there are lists of Eptathlon winners.
PS Well done, Niklas :goodjob:
Megalou Jul 30, 2006, 06:22 AM Congratulations! It was just a matter of time.
Also, thanks for your posting that has intensified the classic gotms. I remember when you tricked me into an insanely longwinded milking run, faced with the threat that you would do then what you have done now - go for the cow.
Niklas Jul 30, 2006, 02:10 PM Thanks a lot guys! For the congratulations, but even more so for the kind words! You are what makes this competition fun!! :)
I'd like to extend a special thank you to AlanH and Redbad, for reasons they probably don't even remember. :p
Way back when, in my very first attempt at GOTM which was GOTM 38 China, I got my very first Emperor win (1725 AD diplo) and posted a spoiler of my ups and downs in that game. I got these two encouraging replies, that made me realize that I could become better than that:
Welcome Niklas :wavey: And thanks for a very interesting read. You're on a fast learning curve
Great write-up btw and it sounds awfully familiar to me  from times not long ago.
So thanks for your support back then, I might not have been here today without it! :)
And of course, a huge :thanx: to the staff for running the competition in the first place. You're the best! :worship:
And now (unlike some other recent Eptathletes ;)) I'm going to go play some more GOTM's and have lots of more fun! :D
dojoboy Aug 01, 2006, 06:05 AM Congratulation Niklas! I knew you had to be a special player when you only picked up Civ4 prior to your first turn-set in SGOTM01, and then :whipped: us to a great finish.
:hatsoff:
Methos Aug 01, 2006, 12:42 PM Congratulations Niklas!
Looking forward to seeing you do the same with [civ4]!
Obormot Aug 03, 2006, 09:31 AM Congrats, Niklas! :trophy:
Niklas Aug 03, 2006, 09:38 AM Thanks a lot all of you! :)
denyd Aug 03, 2006, 05:51 PM Congratulations to Niklas on a job well done
Is there an award for getting one each of all of the shields (lowest scoring victory? That might give us lesser players a target to shoot for.
PaperBeetle Aug 04, 2006, 05:00 AM A Golden Ambulance award for all the shields was discussed back in the day (a year ago maybe?), and Qwerty/Xerol was going for it pretty hard, but stopped playing XOTM before reaching it.
But in breaking news, this feat has now been acheived, by Chamnix, with his conquest shield in GOTM54. Congratulations Chamnix! :band:
Actually, the original specification of the Golden Ambulance was to include the green ambulance, but those can't be looked up in the Pantheon of heroes...
Chamnix Aug 04, 2006, 05:55 AM Considering I always try to get the highest score I can, I'm more embarrassed by that "accomplishment" than proud of it . Thanks anyway :crazyeye:.
