I just bought the expansion today and discovered a lot of unitart we can use.(I know I should have set up the second polloptions differently in this case-ah well...it's my first)
@Duke
I.e. the asian archer and spearman are quite nice so no need to make em up ourselves.

Unique cityart of course we need to include.

Also I like the Warlord feature. That's just perfect for Heros!

Vassal states is a must have imo cause it's just cool.

I will continue to search for more stuff there

However the reason I set up this poll is a question when to release. Do you guys think we should take the time to make the mod compatible to the expansion and keep on polishing up the whole thing to make a big step or should we we release for vanilla?

Still I vote for the second since I think it would be useful to get some public feedback in the current state of developement (that means we do a little more balancing tweaking here and there, do the buttons and push it out).
Would be good to have suggestions from the community for unit and techdesign also me thinks. and I still hope to lure in some poeple with skills to be of help.

One question:

How are the new features implemented into the files?

Completely new files with only the Information for Warlords,
Old files replaced - with all Informations (vanilla + warlord) and totally uncommented
Old files replaced - with all Infos but with tags that show where the original ones have been altered for warlords?

I think we should definitely wait until other mods work out the kinks of converting. Being Vanilla now is fine unless you have to have the new features now. I haven't had time to play Warlords much, but I can see how parts of it would be useful.

You can include all of the unit art without having to update to the warlords codebase. As for the conversion to get things like vassals that depends on how easy it is to switch your sdk stuff to the warlords sdk.

Personally I think feature creep is the biggest risk to this project. At some point you will need to draw the line in the sand and release. And as long as new features (especially big ones like the conversion to warlords) are being added the release date goes back and back.

So my advise would be, firm up the bare essentials for the first release. Pound through those (and only those) and release. After release take time patch all reported bugs until its stable. Then build your feature list for the next version (which is where oyu may consider code jumps like warlords) and repeat.

But seriously Kael yes I agree that worried me too. I think we should release soon. We already did much more than orininally planned for just a patch. And to speak openly we worked some months now and there is no bigger reward for a modder than poeple actually enjoying your work or at least are concerned about it or recognizing it (since you yourself are almost only working on it not playing it). And I think we did a good job so far too(much better than I could imagine the time we started up again). Since I already started to get sentimental let me just use this opportunity to say too all of you: it's simply great to work with you guys! Thank you very much!

Now lets try to find a cut.

Yeah I also think you should release the vanilla version. That way you can take your time to make sure that the Warlords version is smooth, and of course by that time there will be also more features and bug fixes in general.

I voted 'B'. we really should finish the units and techs before we convert to Warlords. (pluss i need that funny money thing before i can buy it :crazyeye: )

This capitalism-thing is really bringing me down, also need to raise funds to get the add-on :(

As far as the features for the next beta release are concerned, my point on that is that we should get the units balanced, work a little bit on the techtree (if playtesting shows that this is needed), maybe add units for some races when we got graphics for them, balance the buildings and wonders - and then release the version we got.

features for the release after that could be:

magic system, psychology, mercmod with units from the "Dogs of War", new resources for different monsters, new tile improvements system, new Religion-System and last but not least Heroes. And of course adding new units for different races
