The Prophecy Three

Warmaster Evern, the Black Prince as history has now called him, was an avid reader of all texts. He spoke many languages, but one of the aspects of literature he liked very much was Early Swade Prophecy.

He dusted off the text and stooped over to read it. It was called the Tria Prophuter, Swadeskrit for the Prophecy of Three. He read and was instantly engrossed.

The Swade, chosen people of the Blademaster, shall be blessed by the Blademaster with the Children of his seed. He shall bless them thrice, three holy sperm shall he let them have. And these three seed shall produce the three, the Trinity. The Trinity shall create the Swade, save the Swade, and give it Rebirth in Salvation.

"A Good start" Evern commented to nobody in particular. Most Swade texts had Growth and regrowth over tones in them, but this one did a good job of setting the scene.

The Crea Tovri: The Creator or Builder of the Swade. He shall rise like the Swade from Humble beginnings, shwoiung his prowness through Brain and Blade. He shall build the Empire, Expand the Faith. He is the Will of the Blademaster.

Evern had to go back and make sure this text pre-dated Wilipo, because that described Wilipo, whose name literally ment Will of the Blademaster. Maybe this was a true Prophecy? Evern read on.

The Savalatoria: The Savior of the Swade, a woman exiled by the speaker of the Blademaster. Born of no father but the Blademaster, born a man whose body shall change so she may save the Holy City and the Holy People.

"Diva", Evern thought, "This must be Diva, the story of her Immaculate Conception. She saved Swade, the holy city, and Swade, the Holy People."

The Renasansa: Born of Nobility, but struck by cleansing poison, he shall spread over the lands of the Swade and he shall spread Rebirth for the people, he shall Save the Swade. But he must do it at a young age for his very gifts shall destroy him. He of the High peak shall be him.
The 14 year old Evern was taken aback. It must be him. Evern ment high peak, he was born of nobility, and they called him the Black Prince because of the disease that had left the left side of his face...black.

And So a young man, driven by a prophecy, set otu on his quest to save hi people.

The tent was the largest one of the encampment; near thirty paces to the side. It was not wasteful for all of that, though, for more than one dwelt in it on the many travels of the nation, and more so, because it retained mobility despite its vastness. A hole was cut in the top, and from that, smoke came from the fire within. Despite the thick walls of the tent–ramid hide–the light still shone through, and shadows could be seen to play across the wall in the firelight that flitted across it.

Tiran studied the walls for a moment. The shadows were few. The Council had obviously dispersed. He could even see some of them leaving now, as he studied the full perimeter of the tent that he could see–women both old and young, representing the various tribes as they had come together. The Great Council, the wise women of the Merhai had heard Kahir today. He wondered how the meeting had gone.

No need to sneak here; it wasn’t a hunt, and the tent was open to all men and women of the tribes, though when the women of the council were in session, only a select few were allowed to hear the proceedings. Though one could theoretically listen through the ramid hide walls of the tent, it was against honor to do so, and as yet, the Merhai had made too few enemies to be wary of spies.

He calmly walked around the tent to one of the gateways, propped open with a stick, and stooped low to avoid the low upper beam of the door. All men bow before the women of the Council, Tiran. It reminds us of the fact that, while we are the warriors, the decisions of the tribe are left to them.

Inside, only a few of the Council were still left, conversing in low voices with each other, or perhaps with a few of the common folk who had come inside to hear word of their decision–and why they had decided thus, as well. The fire burnt with the low whoosh and cracks that he always associated with it; sitting by the fire’s side was his father, muttering to himself as he gazed at something, deep in thought.

Tiran walked up to him, and touched him lightly on the shoulder. Kahir looked up; Tiran saw that he had been studying a map.

“Tiran.” He smiled. “How did your hunt go today?”

“Less well than yesterday. We’ll need to move camp soon, father. The game avoids this area now. Why on Earth are we even camped all together like this?”

“Those things can be learnt in time, son.”

Tiran narrowed his eyes. “Why must you keep your plans secret from me? I’m your son, after all–and only in a few years, I’ll have to lead armies of my own.”

“This is true.” Kahir sighed. “You will learn in time. At the moment... I am still formulating them, if truth needs be told. The options of our nation are few, and even with our choices forcibly narrowed, the path is hard to take. It is as if we have a harder time deciding which of two paths to take, when only yesterday we easily chose one of fifty. The spirits around us like to jest.”

“But what are have you decided upon now?”

“Nothing. But I have looked at a map, and I have dreamt.”

“And?”

“My dreams are never small, Tiran.”

“I knew that, father. I was more inquiring as to where those dreams were focused...” He looked pointedly at his father. “I want to know what we are doing. It is... hard to serve, when one does not know the task at hand.”

“No,” Kahir said. “It is easy to serve when you do not know the aims. It is when you do not have any instructions as to what to do. To rule, however...”

“And I am destined to rule!”

“I thought I had hammered that foolish notion out of you already, Tiran.” He sounded annoyed. “You are no more destined to rule than any other man. And rather less destined than any women–for we are not the rulers. I wield power, yes, for I command great respect. But you shall never sit the Great Council, and it is only through your own prowess that you shall come to lead an army, or gather respect to yourself.”

“And I shall never gain prowess unless I learn–and how can I learn, when my father refuses to teach?”

“Very well, Tiran. Sit, and I shall teach.” He took a small cup of water that had laid by his notes for some time, and sipped from it.

“We were driven from our valley a long time ago, and from that day, our people have not known peace or sanctuary, and shall not until we have a home of our own. And it is that which I intend to gain. That will be the legacy I leave to my people–a destiny set, a home in sight. I do not pretend that I shall be the one to lead them into this promised land, but I shall be the one to have led them to it.”

“And where is this promised land?”

“One must either be content with what one has, or be determined to gain something more from life. And, as you have gathered, I am not content. Look about you the next time you are outside. The land we live in is beautiful, but harsh. A land of stark contrasts, where life and death mingle freely. It is not a land to build a home in, merely a refuge to rest in until we can launch our next stoke, to lead us to our new home.

“I spoke to the Great Council today. They, too, dream of a home, and they have listened to the people. We have hungered for a long time. We have seen tyrants and fools rule, and we have seen glorious dreams turn into dust.

“The Fairhelt contented themselves with a valley. I will not. No matter how bountiful this vale might have been, it is nothing compared to the home that I wish to leave my ancestors. I will not content myself with a valley, Tiran.” The firelight reflected in the center of his eye, giving him a focused, daring look. “I will create an empire.”

A small man in an absurdly out of style green suit, way past retro shoes, and a wilting impossibly long clover in his matching in its out-of-styleocity top hat delivered a message in an envelope to the Penguin Embassy in The Lunar Republic of Ireland. The Envelope having been throughly scanned, sniffed, and waddled on was delivered to the Ambassador himself who was at the time in a teleconference with the Lord himself. No not God, Iggy.

"Your Lordship, It appears there is an urgent top secret for our combined 4 eyes only then to be summarily shredded ultra double secret confidential note for you from the Leperchaun Cheif Executive. Should we open it, sire?"

Iggy, always non-chalant in this Yukonish Ways simple affirmatively gestured with his hand. The penguin opened the envelope and gasped as only a penguin can gasp.

To: Lord Iggy, LINESII Mod and Master of Tellus and Penguins

From: His Truly Great and Awesomeness, though not a Lord because he doesn't exploit the workers nor hang on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in society but instead beleives Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical penguin ceremony, Chip Sinton(Also known as Swissempire to those who wish), Mod of ChipNES03 and Duly Elected Executive of the Leperchauns

If you win i shall present you with 3 Chip points, Three shall be the number of the points and the number of the points shall be three. A small penguin with reddish bandana over his head and what appeared to be an AK-47 leapt into the space station through the airlock. The station was large and earthy. Not surprising, as it was Ireland (only the South, the North had been too attached to the UK and broken off on takeoff) floating somewhere in the ZPNES dimension. A leperchaun dignitary approached.

"Hello, welcome to Ire-AAAGGHH!!!"

The creature went up in flames as Gris (the penguin) fired a round of molten needles into his chest.

"Sorry." He said, sweeping the smouldering ashes under a rock."

*****

"Is that some sort of 'Che Penguin' slaughtering our greeting team?"

"I think he's just trigger happy."

The penguin on the security camera let out a whoop and leapt into an elevator shaft. A large flash filled the cameras in that sector, followed by static.

"Just trigger happy?"

Gris shimmied up the elevator cable, then blasted out one door to see a control room of some sort. Inside were two leperchauns and a Human. He leapt through the smoking door, pulled off two front flips, then landed bowing at the human's feet.

"Swissempire, I presume?"

"Actually, my name's Ch-AAAAAGGHH!!!!!"

The human went up in flames as Gris fired a round of molten needles into his chest.

"Don't do that!" exclaimed the human, clothes charred but otherwise unharmed.

"Sorry. I forgot that NESers were so hard to kill."

"You were trying to kill me?"

"Uhh... I was testing... to see if you were the NESer. So you ARE Swi-"

"Call me Chip. And why did you need to kill all of my greeting team?"

"Comic content. Besides, did you REALLY care about them?"

"Not really."

"And you can get new ones by writing a few words anyway."

"True... anyway, why are you here?"

"Pour vous." said Gris, holding out a letter.

"Huh?"

"J'ai dit 'Pour vous'. Oh crap!"

"Huh?"

"Sorry, I picked up a disease a little while ago in Civ3NES. It's called 'French'. It makes you say strange gibberish and mime things. I think I picked it up during my stay with the Insane Pandas of Anguile."

"That's terrible. Oh hey, you have a letter for me."

"I just told you that."

"No you didn't, you spouted some gibberish."

"Just read the stupid thing."

Chip opened the letter. In Iggy's messy script was a single word.

Accepted.

"That's all? All of this for one word?"

"Well... I dunno. Ask Iggy. So anyway, the race is on."

Gris walked out and jumped into the open elevator shaft, grabbing hold of a cable.

"Parlez-vous français maintenant Chip?" asked Gris, with a slight grin.

"Non, je ne parle pas en fra-"

Chip's eyes widened.

"NOOOOOOOONNN!!!!!!!!"

OOC: This would have been a lot funnier if I had finished it last week when Adar and the Citadel were still talking about the blockade.

In Tellium, the government, responsive as it was to the nation’s moneyed interests, quickly recognized private property rights and passed laws enforcing contracts. The people, finally freed from the uncertainty of despotism and the communism inherent in the Assemblum were reinvigorated; personal initiative was rewarded here like nowhere else. While those of modest means opened shops or bought more land, Tellium’s wealthiest entrepreneurs pursued the huge profits available to the pioneers who opened foreign markets to Tellian trade.

Most speculative trade ventures were thoroughly researched, fully insured and professionally crewed. The results of such investments were concise comments in the credit column of accounting registers, but those who set sail with more dreams and less preparation often met with lurid tragedy and so had their journeys recorded in more public fashion, like this.

Bill Bardious and Ted Zabaka were two merchants who had staked their fortune on being the first to open trade with distant Adar. Little was known about Adar, for most merchants such gaps indicated unmanageable risk, but to Bill and Ted the only reason for the Citadel to blockade Adar was to enforce a very valuable trade monopoly, it was just one of many things they were wrong about.

The voyage south was difficult, but discovering that they had been holding the map upside down was no less tricky. Eventually the Blind Faith and her intrepid crew got turned around set on a proper course. They survived storms, running aground on the mysterious island of the Lotus eaters, a pit stop on the mysterious island of the Cyclops, a run in with the mysterious Laestrygonian pirates, an extended visit to the home of a beautiful (and mysterious) enchantress and with great relief finally found the coast of Adar. But the bad news was only beginning. First the ship’s cook reported that he was out of the delicious five leaf clovers that he had been using to season all the food, but before it could be discovered how the cargo of cannabis herb had been stowed in the galley they received a hail:

“Tellium vessel, Adar is under Citadel quarantine, put about and depart.”

After such a voyage the captains and the crew were sleepy and extremely hungry. They halted as if to let the Citadellers pull along side and board, but at the last moment hoisted full sail and speed away. The blockade commander could do nothing but shake his fist and curse those meddling kids. Bill and Ted responded with gestures of their own which were thought to be rude but appeared to mimic the playing of imaginary lutes. That is why they tragically never received the warning about the dangerous xenophobia of the Adarian population, although it is unlikely that either of them would have known the meaning of a word like ‘xenophobia’ anyway.

The sturdy vessel was once again run aground on a mysterious shore. But there was no excellent adventure this time, the crew was murdered and the ship set fire. The Citadel vessels moved in as close to the beach as they dared but only Bill and Ted could be saved.

They were eventually returned home after a pleasant voyage which inspired the hit song ‘Row Your Boat’. The wealth and fame that befell them as composers helped them to forget all the horrible drama and tragedy of their odyssey to Adar.

Summary:

We realized we needed names for continents. So Silver Steak proposed some good ones(Terrania and Azulia) and then we realized that there was a subcontinent. So Silver proposed we name it Flyvaria, but nobody liked that. So i said we should call the Subcontinent Cultesia, which Wubba liked. But Alex doesn't like it. And then Imago came up with a different name for the New World, Divoium, and then Kalthazer cam up with even another name, Unias. Then Conehead said we should name the subcontinent Trinlin. So i put a list of the names below.

BTW: I thought the whole world was Tellus, because thats a good name for it. so i took it off the list. I have put beside each the votes i count. I may have missed somethough, don't yell at me

Cradle and Above:Terrania(unanimous)
Blade Range and Below: Cultesia(2), Trinlin(1),
New World: Azulia(3), Divoium(2), Unias(1)

Well, so far it seems that the general consensus is that Tellus is the "Whole World" :) Though many would no doubt disagree. Of course, that definition has theological problems as the Veritasians were banished from Tellus in the beginning of time.

Thus, if the world was Tellus, the Veritasians should no longer exist on well, the planet.

Tellus has seemed to change its meaning a lot. At first, Thlalyi said that Tellus refered to a distant, new worldish continent that the Veritasians of old were banished from. Then, it seemed Iggy mistook Tellus to mean the much closer mainland. After that, Tellus seemed to take on the meaning of the world, as well.

Personally, I like the first interpertation, because it has the best implications for Norvalin. If Divoium (or Azulia) is really Tellus, and the Norvalins, instead of being exiles, are really a people come home again.

alex994
Sep 03, 2006, 08:26 PM
Yes, but by all accords Tellus is paradise. The New World, or Azulia, is hardly paradise. Thus Tellus, a paradise, cannot be well, a New World as paradise well, isn't there.

Wubba360
Sep 03, 2006, 08:30 PM
here is my explanation:

In old times, people thought the world as a flat surface. Much was not known of the beyond lands. Many believed this small center of the world as the entire world to them. Only seeing darkness before them, they feared to journey much farther, for not much had ever come from there and no human who had ventured thus far had ever returned. So, when Veritas was banished to the island, the people knew little of ever their being an island. They believed they had chased Veritas from what they knew as the world, Tellus. They thought they had been driven off the edge into the abyss. However, as civilization began to develope many found their former beliefs wrong. They knew Tellus as suddenly a far greater land that ranged far longer than they could ever have dreamed. Thinking of this they neglected changing the past texts, as they, at the time, truly believed that Veritas had been driven off the face of Tellus.

Imago
Sep 03, 2006, 08:31 PM
@alex994-Paridise is in the eye of the beholder. Norvalins belive that Divoium/Azulia/Tellus/The New World is the perfect place to grow and repent sins, and so, to them, it is a paridise... Sort of. ;)

Anyway, now I have an idea for another story cycle!

alex994
Sep 03, 2006, 08:33 PM
But I believe there is a specific reference to Tellus, Paradise in one of the Oneists Sciptures. Not Panteras or Straitkrator, one of the early ones, don't really remember... :(

If you think it's weird I know about the Church of the One, it's because of this. Know thy enemy ;)

Thlayli
Sep 03, 2006, 09:33 PM
Well, I admit that it's been rather interchangable. In the original Oneist scripture that I wrote the name "Tellus" was designed to be rather ambiguous.

Originally, it applied to the Cradle, being the known civilized world at the time, given to the people of Veritas by the One to settle, etc, in order to achieve salvation.

In the Second Exodus, the Veritasans were instructed by the One Incarnate in Brother Pacian to "leave Tellus," this sticking with Tellus as the description of the cradle. But the interpretation taken by the leaders of the Exodus, including Pacian himself, was that they were leaving the known world.

So drawing off this, as the "known world" expands, the definition of Tellus broadens.

OOC: Just curious Iggy, is this current map the exact same one that we started with, or have minor/major changes been made during the NES?

Lord_Iggy
Sep 03, 2006, 09:45 PM
I started off only drawing the cradle, then around update 6 I drew in the rest of the map and darkened out all of the unknown bits.

You stole the title, 'Into the Darkness', from a book by Harry Turtledove. Or it's a complete coincidence and I'll feel like an idiot.Never heard of it. The reason for the name is a reference for the advancement of civilization into the unkown, hence 'Into the Darkness'. No reason for you to feel like an idiot, but I think that 'stole' is a bit strong of a word to use.

Once an overlooked community that people passed through on their way to Zang, Emor became a hub of ever increasing amounts and varieties of goods as Tellium’s trade network expanded and grew. They came from every corner of Tellium and from Delhi and passed through Emor on their way to Kallamas, Salvation or the great port at Andama. As the citizens of Zang found it easier to descend the mountain than for merchants to haul their goods up, Emor became the nation’s prime shopping center, but it may be just as famous as the birthplace of Samuel Deng Nhial.

Samuel Deng Nhial was not born with any particular advantage except ambition and an eagerness to fulfill it. His first job was as a town crier, shouting the latest news through the town square and markets. It was not long until he realized he could do much better by shouting advertisements for some of the city’s more successful merchants. His favorite merchants were food sellers, whom he convinced to provide him with free samples. When these venders joined in a loose co-op called Grain-Mart, overnight Samuel became the best paid town crier in Tellium.

From then on he hired a crew to do the town crying for him while he tended to more exclusive clientele by way of town whispering. He would make personal visits to prominent citizens, influential officials and successful shop owners with samples and special offers. That was how he met Marcus Onasious, the shipping tycoon.

Marcus contracted Samuel to supply his shipping expeditions and Grain-Mart’s first franchise opened in Andama, after that, things began to happen fast. Soon Samuel, and Grain-Mart, was outfitting all that busy port town’s expeditions. Samuel opened Grain-Marts across the country. After that it was the easiest sale of his life to convince his newly wealthy investors to back him as Chairman of Tellium.

The ranger sat upon his ramid. His name Thranwuir, Prince of Myocaca. He was accompannied by several men. They went by the name of the Rough Ramid Rangers. Each with their own talent in martial arts and weaponry.

Thrwanwuir by passed them all. Balthazar, commander of the second legion was a master in sword play. Carrying duel swords he was famed for his display at the battle of Asthazar. He was said t have slain 53 davarians and 27 lengel riders.

Holstein was a master archer. Skilled in acrobats and aim he was deadly in ranged warfare. Riding the ramid and firing at great distance. Many told of how his commanding presence in the Yu-Yan archers was achieved threw at the battle of the Fescar Clearing he fired an arrow straight threw the eye of a Lengel general.

Jafar was a skilled axeman. His massive body made him a juggernaut on the battlefield. He and Balthazar would compete for most kills. He carried a broad axe that could slice threw a grown tree like butter. He was said to jumped clear of the ramid, and slice three heads clean off in a row.

The women on the ramid went by Josephine. She was a master of the mace. She carried metal balls with spikes and clean slicers. They were amazing on the battle field keeping the enemy at a fair distance and mutilating any who got to close. She is skilled at acrobats and once escaped capture through jumping clear of a lengel stronghold and landing on her feet with hardly a scratch and leaving 15 dead behind.

The Ramid's name was Serenity. A massive beast he was far bigger than any normal one. Possessing some deformed skin he bore armor and his skin was as strong as dragon scales. He possessed steel hard horns and tusks that scewered men upon them. He broke pikelines with ease and was unstoppable when angered.

This was the crew of Serenity. They were about to enbark on their greatest adventure. They sought the freedom of Bladism.

Strangely, this setting reminds me much of the Wars of Emperor Heraclius after restrengthening Byzantium then going to crush Persia greatly. Then of course, the Arabs came and conquered Persia and half of the Byzantine Empire.

Of course, the successors of the Arab States, the Ottoman Turks ended up conquering Byzantium.

Guess which one of the three countries hopefully correlate to which three countries in LINESII? ;)

OOC: Hmm... For some odd reason even after looking it up, I still think it's a part of the Battlestar Galatica season... Both shows got canceled too. Must have been that commercial about Battlestar Galatica coming to sci-fi channel in a few weeks... :( I'm still right about the Avatar part though!

The crew of Serenity was mowing through the tangled forest. Serenity seemed hardly fazed by the trees clawing at his face.

Jafar smoked a Trinlin cigar, imported over thousands of miles. Trinlin made such good cigars. Jafar let the smoke curl around his great beard. He played with his axe thrwoing it into the air. He was bored with all the battle plans. He was tired of the needless discusions.

"Whats there to discuss, we come in, kill all them bastards and burn the bodies." He grumbled. Jafar looked at the war as almost a game. He was liked in the halls of drunks by his grand humor and drinking songs, but almost every noblemen looked down on him as the scum of society. Some thought he was the main reason for the kings distaste for his son. Jafar was not a myocacan either.

He was a davarian. Jafar had come to the wountry seeking war. It was when thranwuir turned up in the dungeons of the fortress that he changed mind set. He aided Thranwuir in his escape and ran off with his crew.

Most of the others were not Myocacan either. Holstein was from Khemri. His great grandfather had come as an ambassador in the peaceful days. When the war started he chose to stay and defend the only home he knew.

Josephine, called Jasmine for casual, was in fact descended from the Citadel. She had come as an apprentice to her scholar. They were there to record the great battles that took place. But her master was struck dead. She had practiced her arts of fighting in her free time and left the scholar life for adventure in war.

Only Balthazar and Thrawuir were pure Myocacan. Balthazar had been a rogue in his young life. Mainly living in the streets outside the palace. He had been chosen by Thranwuir as a playmate. It was one of the earliest distastes of his father. Although Balthazar proved to far more intellectual in school than Thranwuir, he was not as good a tactician.

Thranwuir had lost credit from his father ever since his oldest brother died in the war. Fethelon had perished in one of the many raids. He had spent a week dieing in the nursery.

Thranwuir smiled looking back at his grumpy friend, "You know they are your own people."

"Don't give me any of that ethnical bull crap, Thranwuir. They all stink at fighting and it makes for good fun I tell you."

Thranwuir chuckled. He looked at his map. He knew of a few spots scouted by his men. Although he had heard his men talking about little men in the trees.

Balthazar looked across into the forest. He listened for any sound of a horse step. He heard a rustling in the trees. "Stop! Someones over there."

Thranwuir redirected Serenity in Balthazar's direction. They could suddenly hear more rustling. They saw a little form. Holstein grabbed an arrow. He fired nailing the creature down. They heard a cry come from above. It sounded like a young boy.

Jasmine grabbed her chain flail had swung herself up into the trees. She saw a boy covered in paint and carrying a short sword. The boy cut loose the arrow from his pant leg and hucked a stone as Jasmine as he dashed into the trees.

Jasmine deflected the blow and grappled the boy down with her chain. The boy stumble and dangle upside down above the ground. An older boy came out, a teenager, maybe only 16. With a wheat stem in his mouth he drew two hooked duel swords.

"Release my brother."

Jasmine let the boy fall onto Serenity. Thranwuir jumped up the tree drawing sword. The boy lunged at him. Parry, jab, deflect, swing, another parry. The two clashed suddenly the boy lost his footing on a stem. The boy plummeted down.

Thranwuir lept down holding his blade close to the boys throat. "Who are you? Why do you taunt my men?"

"I answer not to Lengel scum."

"Don't you have any idea who you are talking to this is the ..."

"Control yourself Balthazar...I am no lengel, I am Thranwuir Ranger of Fathrom, Prince of Myocaca."

"Names Zip, this is my brother, Gregor. I control a small crew of freedom fighters. We've been trying to liberate the local area. We live in these trees. I can show you it."

"What lands do you hail from boy?"

"Svitzerland."

"Very well we will accompany back to your home. Next time watch out. War is hell boy."

Thranwuir did not like the look of the boy. He seemed to hold an unfriendly swagger. The boys messy brown hair made him look like the spitting image of a rogue. But Thranwuir could not seem to find trust in this boy. He had heard one of his soldiers tell of a group that near saved their lives than disapeared. This boy was no doubt the boy his soldiers spoke of, but trust was hard to earn from Thranwuir.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The group went off into the forest. Carrying two freedom fighters. Zip smiled to himself. No one could tell what was going on behind those unblinking eyes. Zip never stopped staring at the ranger before him. He chuckled. They had no idea. His master would be pleased.

The Leperchauns were taking hevay losses. They had had to retreat from crater base Theta, and now they wer barely holding out. The combined power of the Polar Bears, Panda's and Otters was almost unstoppable. They needed reinforcements!!!!

"Jack, Where are those Penguins!!!!"

"Geoff, I told you, their still writing the history!"

"We need them NOW, we can barely hold out any longer!"

"Sir, i'm sure thaAHHHHHHHHHHH" Jack began to scream as a Panda artillery shell crashed down upon their forward postion. Lasers from an orbiting polar Bear satellite bombarded their bunker, and they heard a thunderuos roar. The Panda had broken through the barrier walls!

Jack drew his guns, and as he dual-wieled his Laspistols he shot two Panda's off Geoff. Jack loaded in two extened automatic clips, changed his gun to bolt mode, and looked towards Geoff how had done the same. They set their guns to full-auto. They nodded to each other in the silent nod between friends, where you know what you are both thinking, but you can't say it.

They both crouched down, and then leapt over the barrier and onto the open battlefield. The Panda's and Polar Bears were over-running all the positions.

"FOR TELLUS" they yelled as the opened fire, taking all the could with them. Jack remembers seeing Geoff's head explode like a baloon full of ketchup, and he remebered the thud of his body hitting the ground. Jack was out of ammo so he drew his Leperchaun sword, powered it up and charged into battle. He was swinging like a mad man, slicing and dicing the advancing Bear Alliance lines. But this could not always last. He broke off his sword in the armor of a Polar Bear, who then smiled with the merciless smirk off a man with no chnace to lose but who will crush you anyway. The Polar Bear punched Jack 10 feet into the air, and Jack was flying backwards. A laser shot went through his stomach. He smacked into an outcropping and slide down to thee ground. He clutched his wound, his hand warm in his own blood. He saw his life flash before his eyes. He saw the faces of all the friends he had lost to the vile Bears. And he knew what he had to do. He watched as the Leperchauns were forced to fall back again, and the Bear Alliance flooded forward.

And Jack was a lone Leperchaun in a tide of Bears. He was surrouded by thousands and thousands off them on all sides. And he took a round ball off his vest and turned a knob and flipped a switch. He whispered, "For Tellus, the hope of us all", and in that instant a giant explosion rocke the entire mon itself. The flames were visible too the people of Tellus, for it is documented in many many texts from the period. A pillar of flame and then a debris everywhere. There was a 10 mile in diameter crater, blasted by Jacks last chancer, which caused a chain reaction with the bombs and ammunition of all the Bears and dead Leperchauns.

He sacrificed himself to win more time for the Penguins, he sacrificed himself for all of Tellus. But how long could his sacrifice last. The Penguins needed to finish. And Fast!

N.A.O. Orbital Command Center, Tellus Division

It was finished. Those Blarney Stone kissing, Luck O' The Irish fools had been routed. A tide of fleeing midget leprechauns flashed into view on all screens, as a voice came in over the comlink.

"Second Narcissist Battalion reporting, Supreme Chairman. Significant casualties were suffered among the polar bear mercenary companies, and it seems that a Leprechaun commander detonated a small nuclear device on the surface. Our repulsor shields confined it to a small square of terrain, however. Theta is ours."

Thlayli smiled. "Excellent work, Colonel Ahmadi. Tell Francois to establish the jamming system immediately. The Lunar Republic of Ireland has to stay in the dark about this battle."

"At once, commander."

The screen went black. Grinning with anticipation, Thlayli put on the uniform of the Supreme Chairman, an eclectic mix of battle fatigues and the court dress of a 16th century French musketeer. Walking down the bridge, a heavyset Lusitanian saluted.

"Your cruiser, sir?"

"Yes, and an assault team. The way is finally clear."

It was ironic, really. Chip's forces had no idea what N.A.O. was really up to. Odd, since it was the NAO, after all. Such carnage was so unnecessary, but they had refused to listen to reason, putting up their barrier shields like that. There was only one other option. As the cruiser's thrusters lifted it off the fueling station, it hovered forward out of a small, Grand Central-sized alcove into the shockingly massive docking chamber.

Penn Gwynn once remarked, "The N.A.O. are the scum of the multiverse. They use humans, after all! RECYCLED humans!"

But he hadn't realized their potential. As the more intelligent animal races of the multiverse were taken over by influential NESers, Thlayli, founder of the NAO, had looked elsewhere. There were dead NESes littering the multiverse...scores of them! All with billions, no, trillions of humans frozen in stasis. It was a simple matter to pluck a million off every NES Thlayli played; and augmented by mercenaries dissatisfied with life in the Alexandrine, Polarbearun, or Otter Empires, it had become a versatile, near-unbeatable force.

The location of the penguin citadel where the updates were forged was unknown. Perhaps those leprechauns knew...but they weren't in a talking mood, at the moment.

This had ruined NAO's earlier efforts to secure an update, since the perfect stealth of Iggy's penguin operations prevented any discovery. Not to mention, it was HIS universe.

But there was something he had forgotten. LINESII was a separate universe...but it was inevitably linked to LINES. And if it was linked to LINES, then there could be Hyperborean warp portals.

The green energy of the portal crackled into life. An otter technician gave a thumbs up (well, sort of) to the cruiser. The eight plasma cannons hummed with resonance as they powered up. With a flash of light, the sleek silver battle cruiser vanished through the portal, with a wave of sound and a snap of unreality.

As the rules of time and space were broken and remade, the guidance system on the bridge locked on the coordinates. Thlayli's eyes widened with surprise.

"The core of the planet, huh? Well that explains why we couldn't find it..."

Inside the penguin fortress, chaos ensued. Around seventeen thousand technicians typed rapidly into databanks, trying to keep the universe from collapsing in on itself while simultaneously doing Iggy's homework. Other penguins ran in random directions, or grabbed fish from a massive, ice-covered pool.

Suddenly, five penguins ran up to the console where Iggy was typing his update, screaming bloody murder. Random janitors and guards flew out of the way like bowling pins.

The lead penguin, wearing an absurdly small lab coat, collapsed at their feet. "They're here! They've found us!"

Iggy turned around, one eyebrow raised.

"Who's here?"

At that moment, the entire room rumbled, just one tiny bit. The chaos of the updating fortress grinded to a halt.

Then, a huge flash of blue-white light permeated the chamber, followed by a huge explosion as the reinforced-diamond-titanium rear retaining wall exploded, literally dissolved by a direct infusion of molten plasma. About ten thousand penguins were vaporized on impact. Cannons, lasers, and crossbows blazing, the NAO command cruiser barrelled into the room. A large data bank exploded and toppled over. Good thing that one was for show, anyway.

The ship landed roughly, and the main hatch opened with a hiss.

A long file of Frenchmen and Pandas exited, to form two ranks facing each other. They stood to attention, and saluted. Between them walked Thlayli, Supreme Chairman of N.A.O.

One of the penguins, wearing a red bandana that gave him a strong resemblance to Che Guevara, gasped. "Is that..."

Thlayli laughed. "Yes, it is. Hello Iggy. I'd like to tell you that we want an update. And we want it...NAO!"

"We're routed sire" Connor said, with a sad expression filling his eyes. He was on his knees in front of the Great and Powerful Chip.

"What?!"

"Yes, estimated causalities, 8.9 Billion Leperchauns, 9.6 Billion Allied Panda's, and 430 Polar Bears. The amount of Otter Causalities is unknown at this time sire. UNKOWN!!!!"

"Egasp! And to what to we owe the pleasure of losing?"

"A fringe rogue organization known as.......NAO!"

"WHAT?!" Chip exclaimed. He was so surprised that he fell out of his imposing black roll-e chair. He quickly scurried back into it and put on his demi-god NESer face.

"I said, the organization calls themselves NAO"

"But...but........their supposed to be DEAD!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!! I must inform the Moderator Coalition. The Phantom Menace has arisen, and we must fight our Clone War before we experierence the Revenge of the Sith!!!!!!"

"Sir", Conor piped in to calm his glorious leader down, "Now your just reading the titles of the Star Wars movies off the posters on your wall. And the Moderator Coalition is shattered remember. We must act unilaterally!"

"But can't we at least entertain Bi-Lateral offers?"

"No!"

"Sanctions, a U.N. (United NESes) resolution, a strong condemnation from the NESing community?"

"No, it has to be WAR!!!!"

"Its always war with you."

"Honestly, who wants to read about diplomatic sanctions..."

"Touche"

And so they both hunkered down with there plan. It called for 1 cup of sugar, 1 Giant Spacebattle MegaShip Of Doom, one Deluxe Compasetor Followationatic Ray, and a little know-how. But not much Know-How.

So within 20 minutes, all those were assembled and aquired, though the Sugar last because Big Sugar was under investigation by Congress and that made procurement difficult, and then one of the Leperchauns thought it was cocaine, got involved with a Colombian Drug Cartel, and needless to say THAT didn't go well.......

Btu anywho, everything was in place, including a conscript army of 1 Trillion Leperchauns. Everyone boarded the ship.

"Thrusters engaged."
"Seatbelts Fastened"
"Toggler toggled"
"Switch Flipped"
"Buttons Pressed"
"Weaponry Online"
"AOL Instant Messanger put on Away mode"
"Sheilds UP"
"Deluxe Compasetor Followationatic Ray warmed up"
"Coagulating Path"
"Path coagulated"
"activate Deluxe Compasetor Followationatic Ray"
"Deluxe Compasetor Followationatic Ray activated"
"We have go alpha delta omega cheesedoodle clearence. Delta Delta Over. Proceed and commence with engagement and firing, over."
"firing Deluxe Compasetor Followationatic Ray"
"PULL THE LEVER"
"LEVER PUUUUUUU!UUUUUU!!!!"

And suddenly the Leperchauns launched into Planespace. They were following the path set by NAO. This time, they would finish off the vile organziation"

And with a pop they landed in the Center of Tellus. About 10 Million Penguins were vaporized, and TWO meaningless Databanks were knocked over. Chip took pride in knowing he caused more destruction than NAO. The Leperchauns debarked and a huge battle flared up, with millions dieing. Then everyone ran out of ammo all at once. Strange twist, huh.

Chip stepped out of the MegaShip Of Doom. He was elegantly dressed and looked friggin awesome. He pointed at Thayli, "We will destroy you NAO, and let Iggy update!"

Thayli returned the gesture, "Nay, we will destroy you and make Iggy updat..."

They both then realized their folly. They both wanted an update. So with out even words being exchanged, they each shared ammo with each other, and Iggy now had the guns of 2 trillion beings pointed at him. There would be and update!

Oddly enough, that is my tic.

Penguin operational HQ, Diamond Lab.

Iggy gazed around. A greenish haze glowed behind the crashed cruiser.

"Hyperborea," muttered Iggy, "I knew there was a loose end somewhere. And look what you did to the walls! My techs spent-"

"Cut it Iggy, I want the update. NAO."

Iggy beat his head on a monitor.

"Thlayli, I am."

"Then what's THIS???"

"Umm... my... update."

"Looks suspiciously like your plans in the HqNES dimension."

"I swear, it's an update."

"Then why is Dashtaka attac-"

"Silence!" Iggy shoved Thlayli away from the keyboard and shut off a few windows. He turned around to see Thlayli pointing a musket straight at his face."

"Update. NAO."

Iggy sighed.

"I was about to, but I had to send some orders... anyway, I'm updating. Although may I request that you leave for the Guangfei/Veritas bit? Your musket here may complicate things somewhat."

"I think not-" started Thlayli.

A huge crashing sound echoed through the chamber, and a huge pod opened. From it filed ranks of Panda soldiers. Alexandrine.

"I don't think you'll have to worry about bias. Update."

Iggy gazed around.

"You guys are really lucky I'm not claustrophobic."

"Funny you should mention that." mentioned Swissempire, stepping up from behind a brigade of Leperchauns. He pressed a button, and a hole opened up in the floor. Beneath Iggy.

"Aaaahh!!! Oof. Agh! My leg!"

Someone tossed a computer down into the hole.

"Ouch!"

"Get updating, penguin boy."

"Certainly. Just let me post a record of recent events- Ouch! Was that a hammer?"

"UPDATE!"

"Indeed." Iggy hunched over and began typing. The outside world was shut out. No distractions until the update was done."

"Ouch." said a Panda above, "I stepped on something sharp. I think it was a leperchaun."

"Jimmy!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Chaos broke out above as the temporary alliance disintegrated.

But Iggy didn't notice a thing.

Evern sat on his restless Bigjaur, its muscular frame pulsating up and down and up and down. Its slicky smooth fur caressing him between his ankle, the wind lapping against it.

Evern and his Bigjaur, Betty, stood strong in face face of the Davarian lines. They outnumbered the Swade, and Evern knew how potent Numerical Superiority is. But Evern also read the works of Wilipo, and he knew how important tactics were also. For Wilipo had had a numerical disadvantage and overcome by introducing revolutionary tactics into war.

And Evern would do just that. For under his developing, chiseled 15 year old body layed a brain teeming with ideas. And he was prepared to use them. He was the Master of War and Diplomacy, and both factored into his strategy. He would win this day and many more.

So there Evern stood. The youngest Ascendant Master, and yet perhaps the smartest. He stood alone against the tide of the Lengels. He in his youthful idealism, dared question the Lengel Advance. He DARED question the force that had ruled and shaped the Civilized world for centuries. Yet, idealism is what the world needed. For without it, the established would never fall, and the better would never be dreamed of.

And without that Idealism, the 500 Bigjaur Riders he sat on that hill with would have been just that. But now they were more. They had a purpose. But most imporantly, they had a fighting chance.

Evern spied the Lengel line preparing to attack. He drew his sword, of glistening iron, polished but still waiting to be christened with Lengel Blood. His men did the same. And in ritual Swade fashion, they scraped them across a plate of Metal on their left arms, and a sliceing noise was made. The noise of a sharpening Blade, a plea for the Blademaster to guide their swords this day. The Bigjaurs pawed the ground.

The Lengel forces attacked. But instead of the Bigjaurs launching into the fray, Evern raised his sword into the air. "Yewmen, VOLLEY! Launch the Vengeance of the Swade!"

And all at once thousands of shafts filled the air. More and more Arrows kept being put into the air. Tens of thousands fell from the sky like divine retribution and smote the Lengel forces. The charge was driven back. The Lengels regrouped and again attacked. And Evern again raised his sword and called for Volley. And again the Lengels were driven back. This was repeated thrice more. And then the fun began.

In the graceful language of Swade, Evern cried "Kah Tah Fra To Ria!!!" The Bigjaurs beat their swords on their arm metal. And all of the sudden in the distance the punding of the houves of Horses was heard. And then the shining beast of destruction and salvation arrived and charged at the line, with the Bigjaurs intermixing with them and joining it. They met the Lengel line full on and it was shattered.

Evern's sword was christened that day, but it would prove its worth in the campaign ahead.

Thranwuir crouched neck deep in mud. He held his bow above the muck. He could hear in the diastance a sound. Thranwuir sat clad in the old cloak of the yu-yan. Serenity was out with the others in the mission. Balthazar would take care of them.

Holstein was crouched across the swamp behind the bushes. Jesuin stared at him. His eyes burning into Thranwuir. He shrugged it off, they were coming. His father trusted him.
-------------------------------------------------------

Only five days ago thranwuir was walking over the grand walls of Sanctus Tutela. Never breached in all these years. It remained the pure resentment of Lengels.

Thranwuir was here for supplies. He was called before the king to hear his father's orders. Thranwuir proceeded to the court. The small regal statues stood in the hallway. Fasra, Feanor, and now Fendrus. They were models of the great gates of blade. Guilded with gold and silver the statues each held a sword. Their arm outstretched. As if commanding all to stop before them. They would be rebuilt some day. Thranwuir however, saw little hope in his father. He was growing older by the day. But the king still had tenacity.

He had eagerness with the now ancient dragon of the south. Who knew what he was still capable of. Araguern despite his ancient age was soon to be a hundred. He hardly seemed now to have aged a day. Still able to wield a sword and command his men he was once more ready to lead the men.

As Thranwuir entered the chamber all the men were gathered. Falone sat on his grand throne. Wearing his crown, it was elegant. Two wings of blades sprouted on either side. Speckled with jewels and of pure gold and silver swords. It still glittered brightly in the hall lighting.

Araguern sat at the food table beside the throne. He was eating ripe meat off the bone. His sword lay across the table. The sheath was of elegant design and patterns with silver lining. The sword hilt had the claw of a dragon around two wrestling snakes and opened up to the mouth of a sharp dragon, breathing out the fire that was Araguern's blade.

In the stewards seat beside lower to the throne sat Halone. Hansomly still in manner. He wore a regal cloak of white silk and held beside him the scepter of his position.

In the far corner mesmorizing at the elegant sculptures was Helmfest, Thranwuir's cousin. He wore his white armor. Clad on the breast the blade tree of Myocaca. Spear headed through the stalk. The shoulder blades in gold shined plating. His sword in ivory sheath it has scriptures all over. His steel blade encoded with the phrase, "In death all things appear fair" His hair brown and long like his cousins. But he had more gentlemen like. His beard was well cut.

Thranwuir felt out of place. Not in any regal clothing he had only his muddy wool cloak. His leather armor covering his chest. His sword was no great thing. A regular leather sheath and steel sword. The handle two hand. It was only of basic greatness. His greatest trinket was his bow. Crafted by great gorinese it was crafted in their great knowledge of catapults and held on to their craftmanship. It was ancient, but it held its old beauty. The leaf and carvings were beautiful. Thranwuir kept it hidden under his cloak however. His hair ragged. Blonde by nature it was long and curly. Wavy curly almost. His bristled beard. His hair about an inch longer than his cousin's.

Sitting at the feasting table sat another man, he glared at Thranwuir. Jesuin was a high noble. He was very grumpy and did not enjoy thranwuir's company. He admired Thranwuir as a great tactician but saw him as a rival. He was tall and his hair grey. He was in maroon clothing. Heavy shirted he had a green vest. He got up and shook hands with the prince.

"Good to see you in health sir."

"I see you have been fairing well in these times of uncertainty." Araguern came up and chortled at the sight of the young man.

"Good to see you my boy. You should know you are doing your nation a great deed out there."

"How's my father general?"

"He is fine. He grows darker however by the day. I have arranged the plans of the...evacuation if nescessary."

"You know their armies march ever closer, Tellium has only days before they arrive on their shores. I fear our time grows short, and even you and your skills may be useless to us against such mass."

"My boy, do not fret. There are gears in motion. There are greater things at work in this universe than meets the eye. We were not expected to last the lengels this long, and look at us. We have been pitted against the odds since the begining and yet we hold on. Why?"

"Hope."

"Because of hope. We were coincidently saved by the plague that has wiped back the lengel hordes. It has given us time. The civil war in their north gives us time. We have been graced with this greatness. We have been graced with time to strike back into the hearts of our enemy. And I intend to use it fully." Araguern gathered the men to his attention.

"Tellium seeks to strike us. But I have prepared for this."
------------------------------------------------------------

Jesuin and Thranwuir had been assigned to the same area. They were going to learn more about one another soon. As the yelling got louder, bigjaurs ran by in quick seccession like lightning. Soon Thranwuir could see the shadows. The pieces were in place, they were to strike. Thranwuir cried the call out as men came pouring out. He fired the first arrow straight into the mud as the man was five feet away. Thranwuir grinned, grabbed his reed and dove. It was perfect.

A Tale of Two Weddings

With the fall of Nurmafer, two kingdoms oft to the East Arose. These were the Kingdoms of Kagorard to the north, and Jormarin to the south. Kagorard was the biggest of the two Kingdoms, ruled by the King Versarn, a vicious tyrant who had a beautiful daughter named Hellin. In Jormarin, the Kingdom was ruled by a lonely man named Rego. It is under these circumstances I tell my tale.

First we look to Kagorard. A young Bladeist boy named Furasi who had been displaced during the Nurmaferi Invasion, worked for th King. He did laundry and cooked food. And every day he went home to his shrine and prayed the Blademaster would let him taste glory for once. He repeated this ritual everyday. One day, when Furasi was only 15, he set eyes on Hellin. It was love at first sight. Their gazes locked, and they both longed for their lips to do the same. But months passed without them saying a word. Then one day, Furasi was tasked with Bringing her a gift from her father. When they were in the room together, the chatted and laughed and kissed and decreed their love for each other. From then on instead of praying to the Blademaster, Furasi would sneak into Hellins room and they would talk and laugh. After a year had gone by, they decided to consummate the relationship. That had sex, great sex it is written. But in the morning, the Tyrant Versarn walked in on them. In a rage he savagely beat, and depending on which account you listen too, raped Furasi. Then he had him arrested. When Furasi was brought before him in court, Furasi plead with the Tyrant, to let him live. Both the daughter and Furasi expressed their love for one and other. So Versarn challenged Furasi. If this common 16 year old could kill him in a sword fight, the Kingdom and Hellin would be his. If he lost, he would be killed. Furasi accepted. And they faught, some say for 4 hours. Parry, backslash, parry. The sound of Iron hitting Iron. In a deft move, Furasi cut off the sword hand of Versarn. But he wouldn’t kill him. “I am no tyrant, and I shall spare you life.” But Versarn always vicious wouldn’t concede, “Then you will die!” He kicked upward and hit Furasi straight in the ribs. As Furasi was knocked backward, the sword flipped into the air, and came down in Versarn’s heart. Love had prevailed. Furasi and Hellin were married the next day, and within the motnh they pledged alligence to the Swade Ascendancy, so they could make love, not war.

In the Southern Kingdom of Jormarin, it was different story. It was ruled by Rego, King of Jormarin. But Rego was a lonely man. He kept harems of concubines but could never find love. Once of his concubines, Syesha, was quite the seductress. She was captured during the Nurmaferi war, and had to service people to stay alive. Using her charm she had moved up the ladder and now she was the concubine for the King. So she began to work her magic. She made him feel special, loved. She was such a good actor, because she could see the power that awaited her. Finally, one day she feel to her knees while they were wlking through the garden. “Rego, don’t you love me?” “Of course I do” he replied with love in his eyes and passion in his stomach. “Then marry me” she said as she through himself in his arms. And so the next day they were married, and Syesha was declared Queen, to share his Kingdom with him. And the next night he was found dead in his bed. Syesha was Queen. And Syesha declared alligence to the Swade Ascendancy, because she was their agent all along. MUAHAHAHAHA

ANOTHER STORY!!!!

Secrets of Wilipo.
The Black Prince, Warmaster Evern, son of the current Ascendant Master, decended the white marble step of the Necropolis, down the tomb of Wilipo. He would pay homage to the greatest General to ever walk Tellus, to the greatest King to ever rule, to the greatest man to ever live. The tomb was a mess because of the occupation of the city by the Numaferi, but that was okay. Evern, always know for his strength, even though he was only 16, lifted the slab and pushed it back over his tomb. But when he was positioning he foot, he stepped on something. It was a large tile the depressed, and then fell down. It reveal ad large stairway in the floor. Ever curious, Evern followed it down, down, down. He held up his torch in the darkness, to light the room. The flame hit the edge of the wall, and the room lit up. There was wicker strung around the room in indents in the wall to act as light.

Evern was amazed at what he saw. It was a library of books in all languages, but on the table there was a stone with their translations into Swadeskrit. So Evern sat and read. He read about the Khemri-Veritas wars, he read about the Eldranians. He read detailed strategy on almost every war imaginable. This must be the lost library, he thought.

See, when the Swade Coalition took Veritas, Wilipo ordered that the soldiers take all the knowledge they could find, and they did. But nobody had every known where it went.. Most people held that it was lost beneath the waves, sunk in a Bladereme, others held it never existed in the first place. But here it was in front of Everns eyes.

But most importantly, it held the writings of Wilipo himself. It held his thoughts, his teachings, his speeches, everything. It held the customs of the people the Swade had absorbed. But one intreseting thing it held was Wilipo’s theories on what he called the Longbow of the Pilns. It seemed that the Pilns were a southern group of people who had be absorbed in the Ascendancy, and they had used a very long bow for hunting. They made them for Killing Ramids, but Wilipo theorized they could be used for warfare, especially to fight a mounted foe. And he was right. He has specifications as to how to use them and how to build them

Evern, enlightened by this discovery ran out of the necropolis wooping. He had found the way to win the war!!!!!!!

OOC: People, fill the gap with stories. A NES is nothing without STORIES!!!!

You cannot write a story about a battle that has not happened yet. The mod is the final word to battles, and you cannot just say that you win or that you 'shatter my line. Nor do I think you should be able to just write a story about how two seperate kingdoms just pledge alligence to the Swade unless you have invested considerable money into the usrupation, or diplomacy and the mod okays it.

In anycase, here is my own story...

****

The incense burned in the dimly lit run, the candles making the shadows flicker against the wall. The obsidian mask was laid beside the candle, while its wearer bowed deeply to the altar. The altar was a simple wooden table with incense burning atop it, with a golden sword laid upon it. The same golden sword that Jebe the Just used during his duel with his son. The very same sword that had become a precious artifact to the Lengels, now the Iron Face Empire.

The Emperor of the Empire was praying to the sword, to his ancestors, and most importantly, to the immortal Koke. It was the eve of battle upon the ancient steppes, and Lengel would kill Lengel to prove who was right. The Iron Faced Warriors fighting against their purist brothers. Buri the Faceless prayed deeply to his God, hoping that he would recieve some sign. Opening his eyes, he looked into the smoke rising to the ceiling, and then into the flames of the candle. He stared into the candle for many long moments, and his vision blurred. But suddenly, he saw something at the edge of his vision.

Startled, he jumped up, his hand on the ancient sword.

"Who's there? An assassin? Reveal yourself, or taste my blade!"

A light chuckle was his only response.

"I said reveal yourself!"

An old man then stepped from the shadow, his eyes hidden by the shadows of the dark room. An old wooden cane, with a gold tip was in the man's wrinkled hands.

"You are the third to wear that mask. A cursed inheirtance in these troubled times to come. As strong as that mask is, it will crumble, Buri the Faceless," said the old man sadly. Buri drew the sword in front of him, prepared to attack.

"Who are you? How did you get in here, old man?"

The old man chuckled again before answering, "Guards are little trouble to one such as me. As for who I am, you may call me Jebe..."

The golden sword clattered to the ground, and Buri immediately dropped to his knees and bowed, his full of wonderment and shock. "My God Koke! I did not realize..."

The old man walked further into the light, his dark eyes becoming visable. In the depth of those eyes, Buri could see the end of forever, the wisdom of all the ages. "My child, I am beyond that. Your faith is true, and will be rewarded most generously when you rejoin the greater whole in the Eternal blue sky. But that is not why I am here."

"What wisdom would you reveal to me, my God? Why have you chosen now, before this battle between your children, to reveal yourself to me?"

The old man sighed, "Because my child, these times will test the might of your empire, and break the back of your army. This is the time of troubles, my son, and it will be a test of strength for this empire. It is my wish that all peoples be united underneath one banner, and one religion, and this is merely on bump on that road."

Buri looked up at his God, a burning fire in his eyes, "I will do all in my power to make certain that this test is passed, and your dream is realized, my God. The Iron Face Empire will not stop until all peoples are united under Tengri, and pray to the Eternal Blue Heaven in whatever tongue they speak, and by whatever name they call you underneath one banner!"

"Then go forth with my blessing, and ride with courage to your destiny, in this battle on the plains of Lengeliz..."

And when Buri blinked, he was alone in the room, the incense drifting lazily to the ceiling. The sword was no longer upon the ground however, it was upon the altar, along with a pecurilar gold tipped cane...

Oh, my freedom, she is so sweet. Now that I’m back, a new era of the spam-free glories of NAO can commence!

Interlude-A New Contract

Nician Bandioi was a Valin, in theory. His skin was light, and he had the haughty expression, long eyebrows and a longer nose, that seemed perfectly suited to that race. His black hair, left to grow during childhood, had been cut and tied up into a braid that hung down his back. He wore a set of scaled mail that cost him three years pay on the Kalmarian frontier to earn. Nician, however, had a touch of Keranian blood in his veins, having been born in that country. There were hints of Davar, and Lengel as well, new streams flowing into the Valin bloodline.

Like many Keranians, he was born into a military family. The Host-Lords of the Veritasan Army who refused exodus or exile eventually retreated no further than Kerania…and there they passed on their knowledge, and skill. A generation of mercenaries had grown, the grandsons of generals and conquerors, intermingling with the native people that dwelt in the shadow of the Keran Range for millennia. Some had served with the Lengels, and Nician was one of them. But the pay was…inappropriate for a trained mercenary. It was time for something better.

Nician had several special skills, of course. A decade of service under the Lengelzai had made him a proficient rider…and his warhorse, Chalcedi, had crushed many Bladeists and Emorians under his hooves. Not that it was anything personal, of course. Like most Keranians, Bandioi only did it for the money. And when the money ran out, the mercenaries left.

While riding one day through the streets of Stockheim, which he had ironically helped to raid and sack several years past, he was signaled over by a man, wearing a coarse gray robe. As stereotypes weren’t fully developed yet, there was no way of knowing that this man was a stereotypical spy. Nician dismounted, eyebrows raised. The spy pulled back his hood to reveal the leering face of a decrepit man.

“Well, Nician Bandioi, an unexpected pleasure! Arrogant as always, I see, considering the reputation you’ve garnered here.”

The mercenary was slightly confused. Tying Chalcedi to a post, he drew the wizened informant aside. He checked his dagger, just to be sure…the man might work for the House of Odin, and things would get very bloody if he did.

“How do you know me?”

“Oh, it isn’t hard to know of you. One of the captains of the so-called Bloody Hundred, you aren’t exactly a levyman fresh off the farm. But how I know you is of no consequence. I wish to inform you of an interesting contract…perhaps better than what you’re getting under the Lengelzai, by far.”

Nician realized that the man would pay through the mouth for his services. Thinking that he had the upper hand, he grinned confidently.

“I find myself quite content in the Great ‘Zai’s service. What could you offer me that I do not have? Honor, glory, and victory are all that I desire…unless you can double my bounty.”

The man laughed slowly, ominously. Pulling out a scroll, he passed it casually to the mercenary. Kalmarian runes and Valin script both proclaimed the crimes of the bandit vagabond Nician Bandioi…and the reward for his capture, regardless of condition.

“You know, there’s quite a bounty on your head, in fact. Two hundred Peloi, if you’d believe it. Enough to make a man happy and rich for the rest of his days…” his voice trailed off, with obvious intent. Nician swallowed, nervously.

“Well technically I never did that to a pig and a woman, I mean really. It’s quite clear that such a thing is a lie, and furthermore,” he said, drawing his dagger and pressing it to the man’s throat, “You seem to be in quite a bad position yourself, my friend. Who are you, and what can you offer me besides threats?”

The agent coughed, and swallowed. “Ah, well if you would remove the dagger…my thanks. That price, of two hundred Peloi, will be yours, on several conditions. That you obey the will of your commanders, question nothing, and serve for ten years.”

“Done. Now please, get me out of here. I have a horrible suspicion that you’ve already sold the knowledge of my presence to the House of Odin…do I guess correctly?”

“Kalmar is uncommonly hot this season. I recommend Redemption at this time, and the passage is inexpensive.”

“What excellent advice. I shall leave directly.”

“Ah, my friend Nician, there is one other thing.”

“Yes?”

“We want the Bloody Hundred.”

At that moment, several things happened. The mercenary whistled, the spy vanished, and three city guards plowed through a nearby fruitcart, a veritable hailstorm of spears flying in front of them towards Nician. It was a sad thing these days, how sacking a city creates such a negative impression. He leapt onto Chalcedi, cut the rope, and spurred the warsteed. Finally, something interesting for once.

Update 21- Years 1447-1500: Hegemon

Many things in this world are undergoing great changes. War nearly tears the northern Oneists apart, Guangfei and New Veritas fight viciously for southern dominance, and the dogpiled Lengels begin their fall at last- or do they?

But firstly, let us speak of lighter events. Perhaps to build tension… or perhaps because I am a shameless procrastinator.

Ida’an’i’I has slowly expanded onto more islands in its archipelago. Early trade begins between them and the Aitheans to the west, but it quickly begins to fail.

For Aithea was in dire straits. A near complete lack of government action had rendered the nation almost totally inept, while barbarians flooded into the borders. Feileacan Liath was the first city to fall under attack. The defenders fought well, but the ever-increasing numbers of the barbarians eventually broke through. The city was torched.

Infuriated by the governments failure to put up significant defenses, the nation began to collapse. A General named Nean Targandh seized control of the nation and began to put up a defense, but it was too late to redeem the nation. He held off the barbarians, but was then faced by the force that had forced the barbarians into Aithea. The Tsayans.

The remenants of Aithea put up a bold defense at Iolar Geimhread, but were crushed, and their General and leader Targandh killed in battle. The remenants of the nation soon thereafter fell to the Tsaya.
(-1500 Tsayan Spearmen, +1 Tsayan Region, +40 Captured Galleys to Tsaya, +1 Confidence)

In the land of Kelios, peace and prosperity reign. The city of Aldisir has developed into a second ‘heart’ of Kelios, and the port cities are beginning to attract foreign trade.

The quasi-religious philosophy of Alse has become ubiquitous in Kelios, and is gaining popularity in Tsaya. It fits in well with their atheist traditions. The goal of Alse, bringing earth closer to perfection, is interpreted by the militaristic Tsayans as the uniting of the world under one enlightened but all-powerful ruler.

The Divotheist states continue quiet, nondescript expansion. All Divotheists recently celebrated the great ‘Coming of the Gods’ festival, held only once every 287 years.

Tir Tairngire has begun to form closer relations with Arcadia. Its welcoming of Pirian missionaries, while good for relations, was an unpopular move for the people of the country, who are firmly entrenched in their religion already. Despite this, there have still been some converts, and some adopting both religions. The contact has brought trading benefits.
(-1 Tuatha Confidence, Tir Tairngire begins adopting Pirian Oneism)

The increasingly paranoid nation of Adar has convinced its people that virtually everyone has been plotting against them. Coupled with the Citadel-led blockade, broken only once by a few merchants from Tellium, Adar has become totally isolated. Its growing population is expanding further and further westwards from the capital.

Following the Venix incident, war nearly broke out between Norvalin and Arcadia, stopped only by a last minute truce. However, the anticlimax and sudden halting of the military machines of the two nations was jarring for both nations. People were unsure of whether they should be relieved, celebratory, or angry about what happened.

Arcadia has obtained iron, which quickly spread via close trade routes to Nontin and Tir Tairngire. It has also begun missionary activities in Norvalin, which has made some advances in the border region. The coexistence of Orthodox and Pirian Oneisn together on the border of these two northern nations is unstable, but may lead either to great good or tragedy. Perhaps they will learn tolerance, or maybe they will fall into religious violence. However, conversion efforts in Chancotol have been totally unsuccessful. The Chanc King Xancraz II has politely requested that foreign mercenaries do not send missionaries into his country.

Norvalin has also received Iron Age technology, though separately from its southern neighbours.
(Norvalin, Arcadia, Nontin, Tir Tairngire enter Iron Age, some Norvalins convert to Pirian Oneism)

On a visit to Ardan, it was discovered that Archbishop Jaen intended to remove the sarcophagus of St. Pire, to move it to Vael Dash. The fact got out too late, however, as the ship had already left. The local Davarians, many of whom still followed Pirian Oneism, were infuriated. So were Tengri practitioners, who also regarded St. Pire’s remains as holy.

However, there was nothing to be done about it. The sarcophagus was brought to the marble tomb in Arcadia, and laid into its new residence. Many Pirians, including Arcadians, are offended by this move. The Lengels had previously allowed pilgrims to Ardan, and disturbing St. Pire’s rest was considered sacreligious.

The final blow was dealt when Arcadia formally separated from the Orthodox Oneist Church. The Davarians didn’t follow suit, still feeling betrayed by the Arcadians, and Pirian Oneism was split.

Nontin’s growing population has been expanding their borders southwards.

Orum quietly expands, in a peaceful manner.

Gamorrea has continued its rapid modernization. The subjugated Malkavians are being forced to either assimilate or be enslaved, and the growing population is working more and more land. Gooranism is being actively encouraged in neighbouring countries., and has gained small followings in Orum and Ikki. Gamorrea is rising!
(+1 Gamorrean Region, Gooranist Minorities form in Orum and Ikki)

The Citadel has been relatively inactive as of late, other than their conflict with Adar. A small force has been dispatched to Northport to defend it against Adari aggression, should defense become absolutely necessary.

The Ikki, coming to believe that the volcano had been caused by their abandoning of the traditional ways, have used this as a reason to instate a system of persecution against New Eldists, forcing them to either join a militia or pay a massive fine. Another reason for this is to protect the nation against True Lengel aggression.

Regardless of the reason, New Eldists are either being forced into poverty, forced to renounce pacifism (at least to some degree) or to flee to the Citadel of Knowledge in the south.
(-5000 New Eldist population in Ikki)

The expanded army of Ikki, which now de facto rules the country, has set up advanced defense posts in True Lengel lands. No attack has yet come against them.

The Merhai tribes have allied themselves with the True Lengels. First uniting the disparate tribes to their south, they joined up with True Lengel forces to begin a southward offensive.
(+2000 Merhai Spearmen)

The True Lengels and Iron Face Empire, as the forces following the Lengelzai now refer to themselves as, faced off in several skirmishes while larger forces moved into place. Merhai raiders struck at Lengeliz as a diversion, but got far more than they expected. A huge Iron Face force finally arrived from the south, led by Akhidai the Destroyer himself. The Merhai desperately retreated, perhaps not expecting such a concentrated strike. Or perhaps to spring a trap.

At the upper Wardash river, the Iron Face army collided head on with the huge force of the True Lengels. Huge casualties were suffered by the light cavalry of the True Lengels, but they disengaged before the battle became a rout. Then, a force of Merhai Ramids suddenly appeared from behind the True Lengel lines. Before Akhidai could react, they plowed into the Iron Faces, dealing even worse casualties to them. As the Iron Faces regrouped and began to push off the True Lengel forces striking at their left flank, things once again looked up for the Iron Face Empire. Then, a deathblow was dealt to them. A second Merhai force came over a hill from the east and struck far into the Iron Face lines. Suddenly, the battle looked very bad for the Lengelzai’s forces. Akhidai commanded a retreat, and the bloody remenants of the Lengel army disengaged. The pursuers, conscious of the possibility of false retreats, followed with caution. From that point on, the Lengels were forced into a fighting retreat. All important things in the capital city of Lengeliz were removed, and when the city fell into True Lengel hands it was razed.

In the UKKK, the religions of Oundainty and Andues are coming closer together, forming a dualistic hybrid religion.

The nation of Skilv’so, now a vassal of the UKKK, has been granted Bronze technology.
(Skilv’so enters Bronze Age)

King Dysonis, successor to the late Ptolemy dynasty, sent a large force to finish off Anarafar. The city’s defenses proved to be surprisingly weak, and it fell with low casualties. Riding on this success, the UKKK and Skilv’so force traveled south and expanded the southern border of Khemri-controlled Nurmafer down to Guangfei.
(-1000 Khemri Spearmen, -500 Khemri Swordsmen)

The Swades managed to convince some former Nurmaferi groups to join them, though this was still quite minor. Most Nurmaferis would sooner be dead then Swade.

Skilv’so has established the city of Windkeep as its new capital, and its settling into its new lands nicely. The Skilv’so and Nurmaferi races are slowly beginning to merge into one, though Nurmaferis are still often second-class citizens.

Khemri (as I will refer to the UKKK as from now on, for simplicity’s sake) had never been happy with its agreements with the Lengels. They always quietly sought a way to squirm out. And this opportunity came with the Lengel civil war. A chance at last to get rid of the Iron Face’s allies and break the invaders once and for all.

In the occupied regions of Swade, Myocaca and Emor, Khemri made its first moves of betrayal. As the Iron Faces fought a retreat out of the diseased jungles, the Khemri force complementing it suddenly turned on them. At the same time, co conspirators in Swade and Myocaca attacked. In the chaotic battle of Ansamsana, surprise, traps, deadly new Bladeist Longbows and superior numbers resulted in the southern Iron Face army being utterly destroyed, along with the Tellium force fighting side by side with it.

With Emor now liberated from Lengel control, Emorans are beginning to make movements towards renewed independence. Will Khemri allow this, or squash these initiatives?

At sea, Khemri’s navy attacked all of the fleets of the Lengels and their allies. Many were taken by surprise, and the survivors were wiped out soon after.
(-Navies of Verta, Tellium, Lengel, Kalmar, -30 Khemri Galleys, -15 Tridents, -15 Bimarines)

In the north, the army of Khemri poured into Tellium without warning. The shocked defenders fought desperately, but they were hopelessly outnumbered and crushed. However, the government escaped and guerilla forces harassed Khemri’s supply lines. The Khemri army then advanced into Verta, and using its new naval dominance conquered the nation easily.

Seeing what had become of their southern bretheren, Kalmar pledged allegiance to Khemri, for the cause of the destruction of the Lengels. Kerania, enraged, attacked the ‘turncoat’ Kalmars. But with the help of Khemri, Kerania was overrun and occupied in a quick campaign.

From northern Croyodon, the religion of Nordism is beginning to spread. From the northern rural regions of Croyodon, what had been the ancestral culture of the nation is being recovered.
(+Croyodonian Culture)

The Gerbers had, during the reign of the Fifth Toghol-King, been rapidly recovering and modernizing. Things were finally looking up for the long-abused Gerbers.

Until, while Khemri betrayed the Iron Face Alliance, Gorin attacked. A huge force of Gorinese, Shalamari avengers and Croyodonians flooded into former Shalamari. The overwhelmed Gerber forces were forced to resort to guerilla tactics. They had received no warning, for their informants in Gorin had been previously apprehended by Gorinese counterintelligence services.

Gorin quickly conquered the Gerbers, though they had yet to face the Gerber army in a pitched battle. The Gerber General Baygar couldn’t afford that, he had to rely on hit and run attacks to slowly weaken the occupiers. No occupation could last forever, not between to nations as different as Gorin and Gerber.

Or so he thought…

Meanwhile, the northern army of the Gorinese Empire crossed the border into Iron Face territory. The failing remnants of the once mighty steppe nation were still reeling from continuing defeats in the north, and totally unaware of Timur the Lame’s defeat in the south.

The attack by Gorin would be the killing blow of the former Lengel (now Iron Face) Empire. The Lengelzai rallied what remaining combat-ready young men he could, and led them against the Gorinese army. They met at Zawasae. In one of the last great battles of the Lengel/Iron Face Empire, Akhidai the Destroyer fought off the Gorinese advance. But the victory was costly for his remaining troops. Recruits began to desert. Taking advantage of the Gorinese defeat, the last Lengelzai fought back into Gorinese territory, all the way to the Wardash. There, Gorin’s army regrouped and pushed back Akhidai’s forces.

In other areas, things were, if not as bad, worse. True Lengels and their Merhai allies advanced constantly southwards. With some suspected foreign encouragement, Davar began to rebel. Firstly, to rule themselves once again; secondly, to avoid going down with a sinking ship.

At Alaki, Akhidai knew his time had come to an end. The once mighty Lengel Empire was reduced to a few parts of former Nkondi. So he ceased his fighting retreat and fought his last battle. He was horribly outnumbered, but in ideal terrain. He dealt high casualties to his enemies, but fell nonetheless. The era of the Lengelzai was over.

The True Lengel forces declared themselves to be the successors to the Lengels. They chose to return to the old ways of the Lengel, that of warriors and hunters, not mindlessly destructive and imperialistic conquerors. They consolidated their lands, and other than a few border disagreements with Gorin have returned to the pre-empire state of the Lengels, or at least as close as is now possible.
(-Iron Face Empire, -500 Merhai Spearmen, -4000 Gorinese Spearmen, -2000 Archers, -3 Ramids)

After putting down much of the Gerber civilian resistance, the Gorinese Force (specifically, the Shalamari volunteers) began killing Gerber civilians. Not a sporadic killing like those that the Lengels had been famous for, nor a passionately vengeful lashing out by Shalamari. It was an organized extermination. When the Gerbers realized what was happening, they began to try to flee. But the Gorinese stopped them, and only a few escaped into Khemri, Davar or Iron Face-held Davar.

The Gerber military fought desperately against the invaders, but eventually realized, during the height of the genocide, that defeat was inevitable. Their only hope was to deal as many casualties as they possibly could to the Gorinese. That they did, to the best of their abilities.

Within a few years, the Gerber race was all but extinguished. No treasures remained, nor any people. All the cities had been totally razed, all traces of Gerber culture annihilated. The only loose ends were the unaccounted for Sixth Toghol-King and a miniscule military remenant, who presumably fled into the Kerans.
(-Gerber, -2000 Gorinese Mooseys, -2000 Spearmen, -10 Bajo-Oni, 1 Bonus Eco Point for Gorin next turn)

The days following the fall of Akhidai and the Iron Faces were hectic. Shalamari settlers slowly began returning to their old lands, and damaged nations began to rebuild. But border disputes continue. Khemri still maintains military control over significant portions of western Bladeist lands. And when word of Gorinese actions in Gerber got out, they were internationally criticized and vilified by countless organizations.

The recent years have seen a huge overturn of the old order. The United Kingdom of Khemri and Kehexou has clearly established itself as an unprecedented near-hegemon power. But will it be led skillfully into the future, or will it collapse under the tremendous burden of its own size and conquests?

Gorin too has become an even greater power. But while its newly taken lands should be easy to control, they may be too overstretching to be feasibly maintained. Time will tell.

Aryie has prospered and expanded further inland to accommodate its growing population. It is blissfully unaffected by the two great wars to its north and south.

Exilsium has hosted a great conference of Oneists at Pax. Great hopes for Oneist reconciliation existed at the beginning of the conference, but it soon became clear that the attendees were being more political than religious in their debate. Little real progress was made, few were willing to compromise, and the conference itself was tainted by the assassinations of several New Veritasian and Norvalin representatives by unidentified attackers. However, some reconciliation was made between Pirian and Orthodox Oneism, with the retranslation of the Hypandium scripts into Valin and their incorporation into the Summa, an update of the Oneist holy book. Also Guangfei Oneists managed to stay on relatively good terms with the New Veritasians (IE: Not killing them), which alone would be a good reason to call the conference a success.

The Valfei war, as the New Veritas/Guangfei conflict is being referred to, continues to escalate.

As New Veritas began to moblilize many of its industries, the city of Saenium began to develop into an important center of the war effort. Many metals were mined around it, and much forging took place within it.
(+Saenium Economic Center)

Taking a cue from the Bladeists (although some historians and Valins claim that they came up with the idea separately, and earlier) New Veritasian Phoenix Archers have begun using deadly new ‘Serpentine Bows’ (OTL Composite Bows). They are more powerful and accurate weapons than Guangfei’s crossbows, but far more difficult to master. Fortunately for New Veritas, its divisions of Phoenix Archers are among the most skillful soldiers in the world.

New Veritas gained an edge in the barbarian proxy war with the foundation of Alatia, a united nation formed out of the northern tribes. They were quick to adopt Oneism from their parent nation, and even quicker to accept iron weapons.
(Alatia is Oneist, Alatia enters Iron Age)

Alatia was quick to act, striking southwards into its pro-Guangfei brethren. The defenders were woefully ineffective in their defense, partly due to the recent death of one of their more important chiefs. Alatia quickly consolidated its gains and prepared for a fight with Guangfei.

They wouldn’t have to wait long.

A Guangfei force arrived soon after the defeat of their barbarian supporters. Nonetheless, they managed to push into Alatia’s lines, and gained some support from the southerners, particularly one skilled young warrior named Cheng Ji. He quickly rose to become a leader of the subjugated south of Alatia, fighting alongside the Guangfei forces.

The skilled soldier’s leadership allowed Guangfei to keep a foothold in Alatia, and even expand it northwards. But his tactics were not enough to defeat Alatian numbers and its support amongst many civilians.
(-2000 Alatian Spearmen, -500 Guangfei Ma Bing, -500 Guangfei Spearmen)

In the south, a peace treaty was made with the misnamed Kingdom of Shangei, which was neither a Kingdom nor centered around (or even containing) the city of Shangei.

Why was it not a Kingdom? Officially, it was, but in truth, it became clear that New Veritas had an inordinate deal of control over it, to the point of providing the monarch’s own bodyguard, which was rumoured to have the secondary purpose of keeping Shangei in line.

Regardless of these details, the Valins soon began basing their southern campaigns out of Shangei. Some sabotage took place, and other minor problems, but not enough to change any New Veritasian plans.
(-5 Fire Galleys)

A strike downriver towards Shysang and Shangei was launched with the entirety of New Veritas’ river fleet. The Campaign of Fire, as it was called, is essentially summed up in its name. The Fire Galleys were loaded to the brims with Phoenix Archers, and wreaked havoc in southern Guangfei.

The Guangfei navy had been expecting the attack, and were well prepared for it. When news reached them of New Veritas’ arrival, the Guangfei confronted them and unleashed their secret naval weapon. The He Chuans, as they are called, are miniscule ships, not much more than military rowboats.

At the start of the naval Battle of Shysang, the New Veritasians struck first with several Shangei ships. These sailors, very annoyed about being used as meat shields, had become sick of New Veritas’ control over their nation. They had been planning a mutiny, and believing that it would be better to be a Guangfei than a Valin puppet, defected just before reaching the Guangfei forces. The Guangfei sailors, confused by this turn in events, and did nothing until it became clear that the Shangei sailors were all dying at the hands of the infuriated New Veritasians and that there was no trickery going on.

So after this hiccupping start, the battle proper began. Guangfei ships advanced and collided with the Valin fleet. Their numerical advantage, while huge, was evened by the fighting proficiency and armaments of the New Veritasians.

What both sides had hoped would be a battle fought at some distance became a brutal melee. New Veritas’ ships caught on fire from contact with burning Guangfei vessels.

New Veritas, beginning to lose the battle, tried to retreat, but the attempt was catastrophic. The remenants of their fleet were mostly caught in the wreakage, and were destroyed. Only two ships survived to escape upstream.

The Guangfei fleet, while victorious, also suffered grievous losses. Nearly all of the He Chuans were destroyed, and many
(-All New Veritasian Fire Galleys but Two, -500 Shangei Spearmen, -1000 New Veritasian Phoenix Archers, -5 Guangfei River Boats, -100 He Chuans, -500 Axemen, -500 Crossbowmen)

While defeated on water, New Veritas had more success on land. A force of 2000 Cataphractoi, heavy cavalry based on the Keranian model, struck out northwards from Shangei in an attempt to cut off the besieging forces at Qingdao. This was a good plan, but foiled by better plans. Guangfei had suspected a flanking attack, and had thus dug in deeply in the passes of the White/Dadong Range. On top of that, the element of surprise that the New Veritasians had hoped for in their cavalry, who they assumed the Guangfei had never seen or fought before, wasn’t to be the case. For Guangfei had already managed to acquire horses…

The Cataphractoi force was fought to a halt in the high mountain passes, unable to remove entrenched Guangfei forces.
(-500 New Veritasian Cataphractoi)

Here in Qingdao, the greatest battles of this war so far were fought. The newly-appointed Stratikrator Gregorian led a force of 3000 Scimitari towards Qingdao to relieve the pressure from the defenders. But his forces ran into something most unexpected. Powerful Guangfei Cavalry. Gregorian’s forces were sadly lacking in anti-cavalry units. Adding to the problem was the new armour of the Guangfei, which was designed specifically to protect against the slashing strikes of scimitars.

Gregorian’s force was held away from Qingdao, and soon pressed back by combined Guangfei arms. Only the recruiting of more Urban militia prevented a rout. Safe from outside distractions, the besiegers of Qingdao managed to undermine the walls, breaking the defense and sending Guangfei troops pouring back into the city. A few hundred heroic New Veritasians gave their lives to delay the Guangfei troops, so that New Veritas’ forces could evacuate by sea, along with any Qingdao citizens who wished (though there weren’t many).
(-2000 New Veritasian Scimitari, -1000 New Veritasian Urban Militia, -500 Guangfei Ma Bing, -1000 Guangfei Swordsmen)

Things got worse. In Sintonia, a revolt broke out. With virtually no defenses in its lands, the rebellion spread like wildfire through Bladeist regions of New Veritas. Troops were scrounged from every available nearby area, and a force of little over 1000 was set up to quarantine the rebel held areas. But it wasn’t enough. Many of these troops moved into Paleras as it came under siege, tying up most of the little available force. The Sintonians besieged it, then sent on a large rabble towards the greatest prize in New Veritas: Redemption.

Civilian volunteers began to improve the situation, and the Sintonians were stopped before the city, and began to be pushed back. Meanwhile, a starving Paleras surrendered, and fell out of New Veritas’ hands.
(-1000 New Veritasian Urban Militia, -1000 Sintonian Spearmen, 1 Region from New Veritas to Sintonia)

The tides of war were now waxing for Guangfei. Its troops began to push New Veritas back out of occupied Qingdao. The Valins, now faced with a two front war, were forced to retreat back to their prewar borders, where they set up a strong and lasting defensive line.

Even at sea, New Veritas’ traditionally dominant navy is falling prey to raiders.
(-5 New Veritasian Triremes)

Peace of some sort must be made soon. For the citizens of New Veritas have grown fed up with a war that many didn’t feel was entirely justified in the first place. Although they are often fine with unjustified wars that go successfully.
(-Veritasian Confidence)

Things look dark for New Veritas. A powerful rebellion has torn away half of the nation, and Guangfei has advanced to its very doorstep. However, their fronts have also become significantly smaller, so defense is now much more simple. The fall of Qingdao has freed up troops who can now fight the Sintonian rebellion.

Though things suddenly don’t look so great for Guangfei either…

For Trinlin stabbed into its soft southern underbelly.

Prior to the war, the Emperor of Guangfei had been celebrating his successes with, among others, several Trinlin diplomats. Following their departure, the Emperor fell ill with a strange sickness. The discovery of toxic sediments in the emperor’s drink pointed to foul play. But by this point, Trinlin’s forces had already crossed the border.

Attempts to raise support for Shangei independencewere rather ineffective, though they did wield some minor results, such as distracting Guangfei troops who could have been doing more productive things.

Trinlin’s army first smashed into the city of Shangei. It attacked with no warning, so Guangfei’s fleet was unable to stop the river crossing to the city. It was stormed and taken with minimal casualties. Next, Trinlin advanced towards the holy city of Jianking. Desperate troop juggling and recruiting, Guangfei managed to get an army to confront Trinlin’s. The two met at Jianking, but the desperate (to defend the city) and disorganized Guangfei troops were not a match for the superior Trinlin force. Jianking too fell, and all of its statues and things of cultural importance were destroyed.
(-1000 Trinlin Spearmen, -1000 Trinlin Swordsmen, -500 Guangfei Crossbowmen, -All recent Guangfei Conscripts, -Jianking Religious Center)

With this victory, pro-Shangei revolts broke out over the south, and the Guangfei soldiers who survived the Campaign of Fire were incapable to stamp all of them out. Much of former Shangei has fallen out of Guangfei’s hands, although the lands further south remain loyally Guangfei, and have formed a militia to ensure this safety.

The forces of Trinlin marched on, towards Chanjiang. But the bridge just past Jianking collapsed after a few hundred soldiers had started across. Guangfei had sabotaged its bridge perfectly. Rafts were built and Trinlin attempted a crossing. But the arrival of Guangfei’s river fleet and a new recruit army convinced the Trinlinese commander to focus his efforts elsewhere. Though he had been requested to conquer the western side of the river, he was trapped on the east, with supplies dwindling. So he consolidated his gains and sent a force to conquer Shysang.
(-500 Trinlin Axemen)

Guangfei faces an interesting situation now. One enemy is on the brink of death, while another is powerful and invading. Will it make peace with New Veritas and focus its efforts on Trinlin, or will it destoy both, and become indisputable ruler of the south?

Nice update :).

To Davar (Thats a change)
From Archbishop Jaen

We apologize but what was done was necessary. We were contacted ealry on by a spy who warned us of the war that was soon to grip the lands of our former homes. We knew that, as men are often desperate in times of war, there might be a danger held to the saint's body- something we could not allow. Should anything have happened to his remains we would have all suffered.

We make a proposal to you: once the region has settled down, and all threats to the prophet's being removed, we will return the sarcophagus to his rightful resting place. We meant no disrespect to our brothers and we hope this will not destroy relations between us.

OOC:
Many Pirians, including Arcadians, are offended by this move.

Actually, the location of the body is not a major factor. Before the actual Church of the Saint was built, the body was moved around all through Davar. It wasn't until the church was finished that Ardan truly became the center of Pirian. Anyways, Arcadians should be overjoyed as most of them did not have the chance of praying near the prophet before, while now they can. Its the body itself that makes its location a major factor.

If you stand down now, you will have all those rights preserved, and we will inflict no damage upon you. All soldiers and officers will receive a full pardon.

If you refuse, however, what happened to Zibon will be nothing in comparison to the devestation of Sintonia. Keep in mind, we wish to preserve peace. You can have it now, or die in anguish.

To Norvalin
From the people of UKKK's Tellium province

Your message has given us a good laugh in this very stressful time. Thank you for that. However our homes and families are all here, more importantly so are our businesses and shopping malls. I think we will retain our past and revel in our future as part of the richest most powerful nation on earth rather than pack up and sail half way around the world to your frigid backward refugee camp of a nation.

Betrayal is a bitter fruit, and revenge a dish best served cold for those who ignore the olive branch of peace.

Ooh! A banquet!

Skilvso to UKKK:

Sounds right good. You go ahead and send those directions for what we'll be doing next any time you please.
Long Live!

Reclaiming Shalamari. Oh, and we have a "welfare building" here on our camp. Turns out I can NES and serve at the same time! :D

From: Shalamari (I swear I will write a story or something... later)
To: Gorinese Empire

We wish to settle anew in our old lands. We agree to remain a part of the Gorinese Empire, as long as we have regional autonomity. The Shalamari will supply the Imperial Army with recruits, and will have no military of their own. The extent of this new region will be former Garretia (including Ruby) and Southern Azania. The Shalamari people sincerely hopes these terms are agreeable. Regardless, Gorin is rightly offered all our gratitude for centuries of protection and hospitality.

Richest and most powerful nation in the New World!

But I'm sure at least some will come over the ocean. That shouldn't bother you, though, as you probably won't care about loosing random crazies, anyway. :)

Richest and most powerful nation in the New World!

The honor of that title goes not to Norvalin, but to Kelios (richest, at least).

I'm staying in this NES.

Decisions to the Hall of the Council

In the past years, many Decisions (Elections) have been held to the Hall of the Council. The Hall itself has been greatly enlarged over the years as new positions have been created by the Expansionists, the leading faction in the Hall. Additionally, the completion of a series of great civic projects in Aldisir has defused Aldisir separatism, and the Aldisir separatists now comprise a negligible portion of the Hall.

The major factions, historical and modern, are the Expansionists, Conservatives, Militarists, Separatists and Loyalists. The Expansionists have consistently been the largest and most influential group, focusing on spreading knowledge of Alse and new development as well as trade with foreign nations. The Conservatives oppose this movement, believing that the Path is for Kelios alone and that foreign influences have polluted Kelios and dragged it form the Path. The Militarists might best be seen as an extreme branch of the Expansionists who desire to use military force to subjugate surrounding nations and force on them the peace of the Path (many Militarists follow the Path of Knives and Plows sect of Alse). The Aldisir Separatists and Loyalists are self-explanatory; in recent years, Loyalism in Aldisir has been rolled into the Expansionist faction. The Separatists are also no longer a significant political force.

First Decision
Expansionists: 14
Aldisir Separatists: 4
Aldisir Loyalists: 3
Conservatives: 3
Militarists: 2
Unaffiliated: 38

Second Decision
Expansionists: 26
Conservatives: 10
Militarists: 6
Aldisir Separatists: 5
Aldisir Loyalists: 3
Unaffiliated: 27

Third Decision
Expansionists: 34
Conservatives: 21
Militarists: 12
Aldisir Separatists: 9
Aldisir Loyalists: 1
Unaffiliated: 30

Fourth Decision
Expansionists: 58
Conservatives: 34
Aldisir Separatists: 17
Militarists: 14
Unaffiliated: 12

Fifth Decision
Expansionists: 101
Conservatives: 33
Militarists: 24
Aldisir Separatists: 2
Unaffiliated: 20

Sixth Decision
Expansionists: 93
Conservatives: 64
Militarists: 17
Aldisir Separatists: 3
Unaffiliated: 4

The current Hall is dominated by the Expansionists, but the Conservatives have become increasingly popular with the decline of the Separatist threat. (The Conservatives were seen as soft on Separatism.) Due to a rift within the Expansionists, the current Most Revered of the Hall is one of its few unaffiliated members, Halmadin. He is elderly and likely to pass before the next Decision.

To: Veritas
From: The Swade Ascendancy

Your illegal occupation of Sintonia is over. Any attempts to crush them will be met by Guangfei, Myocaca, and Swade Armies burning your people. The Sintonian leadership would of course be happy to negiotaite them being a soverign entity and returning your lands to you, but the Sintonia Homeland shall be kept. The Ascendant Master Decrees IT!

To: UKKK
From: THe Swade Ascendancy

Hopefully we announce our set borders to the world. The Ascendant Master, His Holiness Evern also infers upon you the title of Ally of the Blade.

To: The Glorious King of Myocaca
From: His Holiness Ascendant Master Evern, Patriach of Bladeism, Vicar of the Blademaster, Supreme Pontiff of Swade, Primate of the Acendancy, Conquerer of Veritas, True Lengelzai of Cultesia, Sucessor of Wilipo, Inheriter of Creation

We have finally won. Though i now age, having given 53 years of my life to this cause, and soon i shall pass away, to be taken over by my son Evern II, to live and reign in Peresofo, I congratulate you with my thanks for defending Bladedom in its hour of need.

I infer upon you the titles of Archmaster of the Myocacan Province(OOC: Its like the Pope making you the Archbishop of big area), Exarch of South Emor, and Protector of the True Faith. All of your desendants shall hold these titles and they confer upon you Spiritual and Temporal Authority of your Realm.

You are insane madmen. Stay away from our province, and do not meddle in matters you fail to understand.

From: New Veritas
To: Norvalin, Exilsium

We find ourselves fighting a rebellion of Bladeists, with the threat of their barbaric attacks hanging over our nation. In addition, we have been openly threatened by the Swade. We ask for your assistance in restoring peace and order within New Veritas, in fulfillment of the Articles of the League Charter.

From: New Veritas
To: Davar

We welcome your new independence, and wish to offer a Defensive Pact between our peoples. In fact, entry into the League of Valins is not impossible, if you are willing to join.

Just most powerful, then.

Also, some diplo for your nation.

To: Kelios
From: Norvalin

Ours are two republics, in a harsh world of despotisms. We belive that we should sign a free trade agreement, to remove all tariffs between our nations, so that we may grow all the stronger. The exact boundries of the treaty are, of course, negotiable.
