Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 04:47 PM On one small arm of a spiral galaxy, in the solar system of a middling-sized sun, there is something unique.
Humanity.
Countless millennia ago they first appeared, roaming around the world. In a few rare locations, they settled.
Nations arose. Khemri, Lords of the Setting Sun, Veritas, Children of the One, and many more.
For centuries, the nations of this 'Cradle of Civilization' grew and prospered. Conflicts broke out. The weak were assimilated by the strong. From the northwest, the isolated Eldranians contacted the rest of the world. Refusing to accept that there was other human life, they struck into the cradle. Many nations and countless people fell before them, but they could not support their war forever. The great nation of Veritas brought together a coalition, and destroyed the Eldranian threat forever.
Following the fall of Eldrania, the world fell under two spheres of influence. Khemri and its Crystalist allies in the west, Veritas and its Oneist Supporters in the east.
Tensions hit their breaking point when Khemri invaded the sovereign nation of Nurmafer. Veritas took advantage and attacked Khemri's cities while its armies were away.
A war broke out, a war that is known to this day as the Great War.
Tides of battle ebbed and flowed, but over time, the economically stronger Crystal Ridge alliance of Gorin, Shalamari and Khemri proved to be too much. Veritas was defeated, split into minor successor states. Some Veritasians left their old lands, to found new nations in distant lands.
Very briefly, the CRA reigned unchallenged. But an enemy that was to prove more than a match for them appeared in the north.
The Lengels, nomadic warriors, poured into the northern cradle in incredible numbers. Weaker nations were quickly conquered and assimilated.
The Lengels seemed unstoppable. They destroyed Davar and Tristaria, the two surviving Veritasian allies, in a matter of years. The Crystal Ridge Alliance, fearing that the power of the Lengels would grow even greater, struck pre-emptively. Perhaps this would have succeeded. But we will never know.
For the Gerbers, historically a minor player in the central cradle, betrayed the CRA. Maps and plans were given to the Lengels, and while the CRA forces battled the surprisingly well-prepared Lengel forces, the Gerbers attacked their neighbours, Shalamari.
Hellish atrocities were committed by both sides. Well over 100 000 civilians were brutally murdered. In the end, Shalamari and Gerber were both broken. Soon afterwards, the Lengels conquered the tattered remenant of Shalamari.
The Crystal Ridge Alliance was broken. Gorin had gone into isolation, only Khemri stood in the Lengels' way.
But Khemri had been attacked by Kehexou while its forces were away. A brilliant campaign was fought, resulting in the breaking and occupation of Kehexou.
Khemri approached victory. But the victory was in severe jeopardy. For the mighty Lengel horde had arrived at its very doorstep.
Which brings us to the present day. A peace agreement was made between the Lengels, Kehexou and Khemri. The latter nations were joined by Royal Marriage, and now the Lengels will have to turn their attention elsewhere.
In the south, the nations of Guangfei and Trinlin are rapidly becoming great powers. In the north, the horsemen of Gamorrea have forged a vast nation. In the far east, the successors to the fallen nations of the east rebuild, coming into contact with an entirely new group of people beyond...
Some stability has returned to the wartorn Cradle. But no one can tell how long it will last.
Welcome to...
LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part II
I'd like to say that everyone is welcome to join this NES at any time, there's no player limit. NES newbies, you may join, the other NESers and I will show you the ropes. My only request is that you don't just pop in for one turn and wreak havoc by taking over a powerful NPC and wiping out a bunch of neighbours or something like that.
So without further ado, the rules!
Economy
Economy comes from 2 places. Cities, and land, represented by Rural and Urban Economy. 1 Rural Economy point for each region a nation owns. Each special city (I'm using the 3 City system developed by Thlayli, Israelite9191 and Toteone/Camille/Totamille/JessicaKathrinn) will provide one economy point.
Example: You have 1 regional economy point to spend at the beginning of the game. You found your first cities and your nation begins to grow. Rural economy increases as you grow larger, Urban as you get more special cities.
Economy will be shown like this: Total economy- Rural economy/City economy
Military
3 stats. Army, Navy, and UU. As ages advance and more powerful units emerge, units become more powerful. I will use a numerical system. Example: Warrior has (1) power, Spearman has (1.5), Swordsman has (3)... And if you write stories about your units' terrific strength, they may get a little power bonus. 1 economy point will train 1000 soldiers or 10 ships.
With UUs, simply describe them to me and I'll put them into your stats.
Ages and Unit Power
Stone Age
The dawn of civilization. Many armies are mere rabbles of warriors, but the spear is rising as a powerful weapon. Also, hunting bows are beginning to be used for military purposes.
Warrior (1), Spearman (1.5), Archer (1.5)
Copper Age
Spearmen dominate the battlefields of the world, but the war-axe is beginning to erode to spear's might. The strengthening bow, as well, is becoming a stronger and stronger counter to the more lightly-armoured axemen. In some regions, cavalry makes its first appearance.
Archer (1.5), Spearman (2), Axeman (2.5)
Bronze Age
All weapons are gaining in strength, but the golden age of the spear is waning. Axes remain very powerful, but they themselves are under threat from the first swords. Early siege weapons are developing.
Archer (2), Spearman (2.5), Axeman (3), Swordsman (3), Horse Archer (4.5)
Iron Age
The sword is the new supreme weapon on the battlefield. The spear and arrow remain as they always have been, but the axe is gradually disappearing. For the first time, melee cavalry is developed.
Archer (2), Spearman (3), Axeman (3.5), Swordsman (4), Horse Archer (4.5), Cavalry (5)
Imperial Age
New technologies both domestic and military define this age. Great works of architecture are completed, as are designs of new military weapons. Siege weapons are growing ever stronger. This age will likely define the path of military technological development in the future.
Archer (3), Spearman (4), Axeman (4.5), Swordsmen (5), Horse Archer (5), Cavalry (6)
Note: Several units are more expensive: Bajo-Oni (10/Eco Point), Bigun (5/Eco Point), Pentareme (5/Eco Point), Titan (5/Eco Point)
Population
Is now a word-based stat. Here are the levels.
Tiny - <50 000
Small- 50 000-250 000
Medium- 250 000-1 500 000
Large- 1 500 000-10 000 000
Huge- 10 000 000-100 000 000
Massive- 100 000 000-1 500 000 000
Colossal- >1 500 000 000
Conscription
You can enlist a portion of your population to fight for you. You can ask for a certain number, and I will determine how many heed your call. You can also draft, but this is less popular.
Generally, if these forces are successful, there is no confidence damage, but if they fail, you suffer both economic damage (from less workers) and a loss of confidence in your rule.
You can request a conscription in your orders and give a request of how many you soldiers you want to raise. I will determine how many come to fight for you.
Education
This statistic is fairly useless in the very early ages, as it is very expensive to maintain and a few smart people are all you need. But as the game progresses having an intelligent population can give you many advantages. Education levels 1-3 cost you 1 economy point per turn for every 500 000 people. Education levels 4-6 cost you 2 economy points per turn for every 500 000 people. Education levels 7-9 cost 3 economy points per turn for every 500 000 people. Education level 10 costs 4 economy points per turn for every 500 000 people.
Confidence
Your people's confidence in nation and leadership. Low confidence=revolts and revolutions. High confidence=militia on the defense, strong faith in your actions.
(Hateful, Resentful, Tolerating, Neutral, Respecting, Admiring, Loving, Worshipping)
Culture
Culture can increase through stories, wonders, and Cultural or Religious centers. It is the collective strength and rich history of a nation, and can lead people to great patriotism and self-sacrafice for their beloved nation, if the culture is strong.
(None, Pathetic, Mediocre, Average, Strong, Influential, Outstanding, Wonder of the World)
3 City System
Building a city costs 1 economic point.
Economic centers- Cities surrounded by red, these provide you with one economy point per turn.
Cultural centers- Cities surrounded by blue, these provide you with one economy point per turn and random culture and education levels. These cities are quite bad to lose.
Religions centers- Cities surrounded by green, these cities provide you with one economic point per turn and are the beating hearts of your religions. They provide great bonuses to culture, confidence, and the spread of your religion, but are devastating to lose.
Wonders
At great expenditure, you may create mighty monuments to you and your nations power. You must pay economy points to build them, and they can't be rushed. They have great cultural and confidence bonuses, but won't produce troops and give you spending points for no reason. Wonders often create specialty cities.
Government
Your government.
Religion
You start off with a default primitive animism, belief in spirits of nature and things like that. You can create a more advanced religion through a story and the construction of temples. Religions are every bit as powerful here as they are in our world. They give your leader credibility, mold alliances, and break empires.
At this point, there are already several strong, established religions, but religion is an oft-changing thing. New sects can arise, and some faiths fade away.
Stories
I don't give direct bonuses, like +10 galleys, but stories will have positive effects on your nation during the update, maybe giving you a new economic center, better battle results, and the like.
Orders
If you must send more than one PM of orders, please put the basic movements and actions in the first PM, then put smaller references (IE: How things are to be done). This will make my updating easier, and allow you to get the update and stats faster. We both win! You can do just fine without delving into detail. Kal'Thzar has sent 1 PM orders every turn of the game and look at Khemri. Is it suffering from neglect?:p No! I don't punish people for being vague in their orders, in fact, I like it. If you just say 'attack the nation to my west', I'll make a logical attack judging from the situation. I won't be a jerk and randomly throw them at the enemy like an uncoordinated mob.
In your orders, I want these things:
-Your nation's name should be the first word in your order's title.
-Your stats should be in your orders, in case I delete the stats somehow.
If you wish to start a new nation, fill out the template below please.

The Monarchs have brought their nation into a close relationship with Gorin. Brief war with the Lengels resulted in something of a victory, with the lands west of the Wardash being brought into the control of these two allies. A brief civil war has been ended, due to Gorinese intervention to aid against the hardcore Nordists.

Description: Protected from roaming barbarians by a great mountain range that surrounds their valley, the two cities of Kelios and Aldis rose to become civilized centers of agriculture, trading with each other and with the barbarian tribes beyond the mountains. With a strong history of the will of the people, the two cities are sometimes considered bureaucratic by outsiders, though the people believe that a republic is the only way that Alse may be followed. Recently, the two cities have come to merge their ruling councils in the interests of mutual defense, with a Revered elected from within the newly united council. The recent war with Tsaya has made Kelios the most powerful nation in Azulia, though it left Aldis in smoking ruin.

Description: The histories of the Kehex and Khemri people have always been closely interwined. At times Khemri has occupied Kehexou, more recently the reverse almost came true. At the end of the 2nd Kehexou War, the two nations made peace. King Ptolemy III Khemr married a young Kehex princess to become King Ptolemy I, of the United Kingdom of Khemri and Kehexou. For a generation, Khemri lived subservient to the Lengels, until its chance at betrayay came at last. It destroyed the Lengel Armies of the south, while Gorin and the True Lengels decimated the north. At last, the Lengels are gone, and Khemri is indisputably the strongest nation in the world. No attempts to shake it off of its throne have yet succeeded... yet the greater the height, the greater the fall.

The Monarchs have brought their nation into a close relationship with Gorin. Brief war with the Lengels resulted in something of a victory, with the lands west of the Wardash being brought into the control of these two allies. Description: The Gerougioikoi, or Those that make Their Homes in the Lands of the Ancients (Gerougia means Land(s) of the Ancients) have, since the dawn of time, been an intensely varied and often paradoxical people. They are religious zealots and atheistic philosophers, cultural giants and military heroes, loving towards Life and respectful of Death, they have fought many wars amongst themselves while establishing a unique culture that unites all the various peoples. The brilliant Kallipoloi Strategos, Telamon of Ruthless Bronze, subdued all the warring cities and brought around a new era of unity. As trade begins to flourish, Telamon’s successor works on bringing about unity through the increasing belief that the State supercedes not only the individual, but the City as well. The Age of the Poleis (cities) is over. The Age of the Politeia (republic!) has begun.

They have remained at the cutting edge of technology, and have emerged victorious, or at least undamaged, in every conflict. The years of the Lengel invasion have been a heyday for Gorin. They have prospered, expanded, and recently liberated Shalamari, captured Nkondi, genocided the Gerbers and conquered the True Lengels. They are now the mightiest nation in the world north of Khemri, but becoming dangerously overstretched. This is now showing, Gorin being crippled by foreign invasions, rebellions, and internal unrest.

Description: The Swade are a race living in the rich jungles west of former Emor. They were the original proponents of the Bladeist religion, and still lead it, although in a more radical fashion than their Myocacan bretheren would likely prefer. They have fought many wars with their various nonbeliever neighbours, though they have consistently fought on the side of Khemri, against the Valins. With Evern III Wilipi's 'Extinction Doctrine' the war against the Valins has reached a fever pitch. Before the end of this war, one nation will be in ruins. Which will it be? The Phoenix, or the Blade?

Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 04:51 PM Religion
Alse- A quasi-philosophical religion whose rather loosely-defined goal is to set the world on the 'Path' towards perfection.
Ancestor Worship- The worshipping of One's Ancestors.
Animism- The belief in the holiness of nature, and the greater forces controlling it.
Neo-Animism- Ikki Animism, centered around humanity's struggle for enlightenment.
Gooranism- Gamorrean Animism, rotating around the Supreme Goddess Goora.
Atheism- The belief in no gods.
Bladeism- Swade belief that blades are holy, and that the almighty Blademaster wields 6 blades, each exemplifying a facet of existence.
Church of the One- The first and most organized religion on Tellus, other than possibly Crystalism, the Church originated in Veritas, and is practiced from Emor to Nkondi. Believers follow the One, who is the only true deity, and created all that exists out of Chaos. Man was placed on a paradise by the One, but due to his sins, they were cast down into Tellus. The One and his Three Maxims (Light, Truth, and Order) are praised above all things, and an established hierarchy of priests and disciples spread the faith to new lands as fast as they are found.
Path of God- Emoran sect of Oneism, more interested in what people do than what people say.
Pirian Oneism- An orthodox version of Oneism, based around Hypandium scripts, which are believed to be the most true to the original texts of the Church of the One. Practiced in Davar and Arcadia.
Way of the One- Guangfei's Oneist Church, which encourages freer thinking and separation from Veritasian religious imperialism.
Crystalism- Founded in Yath al'Shanaal of old, the heart of the religion lies in Wardash and the Stone Circles of Ruby. The Red Lady, mistress of death and love, is the matron deity, and rules over Netherworld - the realm of dead souls. The namesake of the religion is the frequent use of crystals in rituals to contact the Netherworld for wisdom, blessings and other things. Crystalism is expected to spread all over the civilized world over the course of the next century by its proponents.
Masra- Gorinese form of Crystalism, worships Dula, the husband of the Red lady. It has long since overtaken Orthodox Crystalism as the dominant form of the religion.
Divotheism- The name for the varied religions of aboriginal New-Worlders which share one theme- the worship of the 'Sky Gods'.
Chanc- Chancotol Divotheism, which claims that the Gods want their children to use their gifts to spread wealth and prosperity through trade.
Ezamri- Zemoran Divotheism, which believes that the Gods want their children to use their gifts for the advancement of the human race.
Dualism- Malkavian beliefs featuring the two gods, Bane and Ignatia. Their differing interpretations among the Malkavian clans are what lead to much of its violent internal conflicts and political instability.
Banism- An evolution of Dualism, Banism states that this world is merely a test that Bane has created for us. Those who hold the ideals of Order, Peace and Justice in high regard and strive to remake the world in their own image shall find a place in Paradise. Peace will never be achieved while the people remain divided, only when the world is under one flag and one culture shall glorious peace reign eternal.
Duality and Balance- More of a philosophy than a religion, followers believe in the duality of the world, and the balance that must be kept. Originates from former Dula-Hathran. Only a few surviving Dula practiced this, but the religion experienced a renaissance during Tristaria's existence. But now that its patron nation is gone, the future of this religion is in jeopardy. The Gerbers crushed it with Oratheism, and Kerania forcefully converted people to the Church of the One. Ironically, the Lengels offered the best chance for Duality's survival. With all three of these nations gone now, the future of this faith, for better or for worse, is in the balance.
New Eldism- Radically different than its predecessor, New Eldism teaches that all gods are one, and that god is Eldos. He preaches knowledge and peace.
Khemri Polytheism- Belief in the Khemri pantheon. The Holy codex documents the gods, the Book of the Dead teaches morals, and Mazdaism offers glimpses at the future of the Khmerian people, as well as being possibly the first step to monotheism.
Andues- Khemri polytheism, but there is only one god, Nikkal-Rae.
Aegypt- The hybrid of Andues and Oundainty, with one god from each faith. It is the dominant religion of the UKKK.
Lengri- The religion of the Lengels, this faith is quite similar to Animism in most of its facets, but several discrepancies reveal deeply rooted differences in Lengel culture. For example, Lengri teaches that battle is the epitome of the human soul, revealing all of its weaknesses and virtues. A respect of a higher power is shown in Lengel worship of the Koke, the Eternal Blue Heaven. Lengri's support is primarily in the Lengel homelands. Outside, different religions and Tengri reign.
Mantea- Shu, Goddess of Day, The Good Mother, the Red Lady. Shi, Goddess of Night, The Temptress, the Blue Lady. Both are polar opposites, and both are worshipped equally in the faith of Mantea (Equilibrium in the Yathai tongue).
Messianic Gnosticism- A syncretic religion, Messianic Gnosticism, also known as Messianic Oneism, incorporates Bladeism, New Eldism, Oneism, Kyriotheism (itself a modified Oneist religion), and Gerougioikai and Guarelai philosophy. The religion grew from a general disillusionment from the Great Sins of the North. The skeptical southern peoples had always questioned and probed and refined their religion, existing in an atmosphere of constant dialogue, competition, and compromise. The One God of Oneism is split into multiple aspects, as in Bladeism. The aspects correspond to the religions: the kindly Autorex, the mighty Strategos, and the peace bringing Hierophant. Prince, Paladin, and Priest, the God of Messianic Gnosticism is also prophesied to come as a liberator of all men. The Great Prophets of Messianic Gnosticism are Eugenides, Phidias, and Alexandros.
Nordism- The belief in one god who is the supreme ruler of everything. The people are his servants in life and the afterlife. The supreme god is often seen as offering people paradise in the afterlife for life of servitude in life maintaining the world he created. People who are lazy or destructive are sent to a life of pain and misery in the core of the earth. They spend one life equal to their afterlife in this tomb of torture which they are reincarnated and given a second chance at making it to eternal paradise. The religion teaches that faith in the supreme god along with hard work, generosity, and just being a good person will lead to paradise.
Otornosiasm- Worship of the earth god, Otornos. He will aid his followers, and they will spread his word by holy book and holy sword. The holy book of Otornosiasm, or Yána, teaches the morals of religion and life.
Trinlinism- Trinlinism revolves around the belief in 5 gods. Zester is for the sky, Terrium is of the earth, Wiviter is the god of the water, Ouvunter is the god of the wind, and Cinnav is the god of the fire.
Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 04:52 PM You May Post!!!

Kal'thzar Aug 03, 2006, 04:53 PM Post #1
The UKKK shall Arise, a NEW power.
Cuivienen Aug 03, 2006, 04:53 PM I would have the first post had I not had to upload an image :(
After a few failed attempts to make a more complex flag for Kelios, I decided on something simple:
Kal'thzar Aug 03, 2006, 04:56 PM Nice map Cuiv.
Iggy can you update the map, For some things don't correspong to the stats.
Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 04:56 PM Cool Cuiv. PM that flag to me in your orders so I can add it to your stats once your nation has been put in (Next update)
@Kal'Thzar- You mean the fact that Khemri and Kehexou are still separate. That's the map as of the end of the update. I did the stats together because I knew the nations were merging AFTER updating.
Cuivienen Aug 03, 2006, 04:58 PM Do you need my stats again, Iggy?
IronMan2055 Aug 03, 2006, 04:58 PM yay two main threads how many nes's can say that?
Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 04:58 PM Just PM 'em please. You could send early orders.
As I'm not updating this weekend, to get some work done on RL stuff and write some stories maybe.
@Ironman2055- GoobNES is the only one I can think of.
Kal'thzar Aug 03, 2006, 05:04 PM @Kal'Thzar- You mean the fact that Khemri and Kehexou are still separate. That's the map as of the end of the update. I did the stats together because I knew the nations were merging AFTER updating.
Actually I was looking at Gorins eco :p
Lord_Iggy Aug 03, 2006, 05:09 PM I forgot to draw in the EC, but there is one.
IronMan2055 Aug 03, 2006, 05:12 PM wait black dots are cities correct i never bought a second city but i have one
LightFang Aug 03, 2006, 05:12 PM Since I absolutely suck at reading maps, I just want to make sure that my country is where I think it is.

North King Aug 03, 2006, 05:34 PM I decided against building up a nation in the middle of nowhere, and decided to take a nation already built up in the middle of nowhere.
Skilv'so
Cities: Ivorykeep
Leader: Chancellor Gobe
Religion: Masra Crystalism (100 000)
Government: Elective oligarchy
Economy: 2- 2/0
Population: 100 000
Army: 9000 Spearmen (2)
Navy: 30 Galleys
Education: None
Technology: Copper Age
Confidence: Tolerating
Culture: None
Wonders:
Description: Originally an isolated fortress in the middle of nowhere, Ivorykeep has developed into a centre of trade, living and profession. And... to be honest, they really haven't gotten all that far past being an isolated fortress in the middle of nowhere.
Does anyone actually remember anything about these guys beyond their description? I was hunting through the original thread, and couldn't even find who led them...
Oruc Aug 03, 2006, 05:37 PM I only remember their name, which I didnt like
Silver Steak Aug 03, 2006, 05:44 PM From: Shalamari refugees

We would be grateful if you would allow us to base some of our naval explorations from your ports.
Also, can you add the refugee stats in a spoiler under Gorin, Iggy? I know I'm without any country and all, but I need something to work with.
IronMan2055 Aug 03, 2006, 05:45 PM but the black dots are towns correct? could i please get an answer
North King Aug 03, 2006, 05:48 PM From: Shalamari refugees
To: Skilv'so
We would be grateful if you would allow us to base some of our naval explorations from your ports.
It would truly be terrible to deny refugees shelter, especially those of our Crystalist brothers. We will allow you to shelter in our nation, so long as you bring no trouble upon us; we have lived a peaceful existance in the Ivorykeep, and do not wish it to fall apart.
IronMan2055 Aug 03, 2006, 05:56 PM i'm pretty sure the dots are cities which will shorten my orders becuse i was going to order a coastal city
Oruc Aug 03, 2006, 05:58 PM yes dots are cities
~Darkening~ Aug 03, 2006, 05:59 PM Checking in.
And Arcadia has yet to figure out what the heck they’re saying. Though they presumably like pie.
Hell. All I have to do is give them pie and say the words "The One" alot ;].
Disenfrancised Aug 03, 2006, 06:00 PM Iggy can you reply to my PM? I've just got a nice story planned out and I don't want to waste it ;)...
Silver Steak Aug 03, 2006, 06:01 PM Great! Thanks, NK. ;)

We would be grateful if you would allow us to base some of our naval explorations from your ports.
Iggy, will you add the Shalamari flag to the stats as well? It's in the Flags! thread a few pages back. It's the flag with an owl on it. Thanks! :)
jalapeno_dude Aug 03, 2006, 06:02 PM So Iggy, did you change it so Zemora was the nation we originally contacted? Because their nation and relgion are the most similar to mine...
From: Citadel
To: Zemora
Friends in the East, we share many fundamental beliefs--especially the belief that our Eldos, and your Sky Gods, have commanded us to benefit all mankind. And is it not true that peace is the only way to do so? We would like to observe the peoples of your continents, compare their religions to our, and see if they all share common elements. Would some of you care to visit our continent?
IronMan2055 Aug 03, 2006, 06:15 PM does any body else relise if there is a land bridge in the north evil nations are going to conquer the hell out of what i will call the natives
North King Aug 03, 2006, 06:17 PM does any body else relise if there is a land bridge in the north evil nations are going to conquer the hell out of what i will call the natives
Nope. If there is a land bridge, there would be fairly consistent contact. And with fairly consistent contact, the more "advanced" nations don't have the disease advantage. Thus, while we might make temporary gains, we won't be able to wipe out their population, and their nations will eventually revive. Unless we all pull a silver. :D
Luckymoose Aug 03, 2006, 06:31 PM Yay,im here. When are orders due. Orum shall rise.
Cuivienen Aug 03, 2006, 06:33 PM Some called it the greatest of all the Houses. Others called it the heart of the world. The marble structure rose high atop its hill above the city of Keliosir, and Guides in their white and deep blue robes swarmed up and down the steps. It was the center of existence in Kelios, the most revered site to followers of both the Path and the Path of Knives and Daggers. It was the holy Hall of the Council, home of the governing Council of Kelios and of the Revered, head of the Council and leader of the Guides.
Almadin[1] climbed the pale, cool marble steps as he had every day since the elections. He was one of the representatives of the citizens of Alsidir in the Council, though he was not considered a major player for his failure to take part in the unification debates. All of the other councilpersons of Alsidir fell into either the unionist or the separatist camps, with the unionists in an immense majority, and Almadin often drifted out of sight with no one to support him.
He paused near the top of the stairs to look in wonderment at this marvel of Kelia engineering. The holy Hall was the greatest possible of all Houses for the Path, as it was the will of many that most clearly reflected the Path, and the holy Hall symbolized above all else the will of many. It was always a bit of a spiritual moment for him, approaching the holy Hall. Alsidir had a holy Hall also, fallen now into disuse with unification, but it was smaller, like the city, and less beautiful. Surely the holy Hall was as close as the world now came to Perfection.
The debates within the Council were as usual today. A few firebrand mavericks were seeking to stamp out the Path of Knives and Daggers (failed by an immense margin). The Alsidir separatists made a proposal to disunite the cities (failed by an immense margin). Proposals to expand the military and to establish more farms in the rich land south of Keliosir were passed. Funds to restore an old House near Alsidir that had fallen into disrepair were set aside. Almadin himself voted with the majority on every issue. They all seemed to him sound followings of the Path.
The Revered himself did not appear for the Council. He had taken to his bed of late, and some said that his soul was readying itself to pass on to a new body. The Council, however, continued as it always did, with or without the Revered. Mourning was unnecessary, for his soul would continue, and the Council always needed to make decisions. There was one decision the Council did not want to make, however, Almadin knew. It would be immensely difficult for them to choose a new Revered.
[1]I changed the name for continuity. All Kelia names end in -n.

das Aug 03, 2006, 07:02 PM Gerber confirmed.
NK, I've done some hunting myself, not sure if its helpful but...
1092- Skilv'so capital of Ivorykeep established, nation rises to prominence.
During the Negotiations (those that failed to end the war with Veritas):
From The Gorinese Empire
To Croyodon, Maugot, and Skilv'so
Greetings! The Lord Kaiser of the Gorinese Empire send out invitations to all three of your new and rapidly growing nations to a feast at Gorin. The Lord Kaiser wishes to discuss trade with you and to show you about the great Gorin Empire in hopes that all our nations may grow together in peace.
Much later, just after the fall of Veritas:
From: Skilv'so
To: Croyodon
We propose a mutual protection pact.
From Croyodon
To Skilv'so
We graciously accept a mutual protection pact. We ask that you commit soldiers to help fight off the Lengels that are increasingly threatening the civilized world.
From: Skilv'so
To: Croyodon
We shall place soldiers into this conflict, do not worry.
From: Skilv'so
To: Davar
Do you want our word as well? :crazyeye:
Quote:
From: Skilv'so
To: Davar
Do you want our word as well?
[Davar:]
Last time I checked I didn't have contact with you . :) . So I sent to all those I did.
Past player of Skilv'so (I hate that name) was Azash.
Soon after:
[Gorin:] perhaps we should call it the Great Alliance? it is pretty Great :p
[Shalamari:] If everyone joins, it is. Currently, we have the CRA, Davar, Emor, Croyodon and Skilv'so. And we need MORE.
Gorinese Historian Rya Czar Orotruski, in his "The Great Civilizations of the World", defined Skilv'so as a "Newly Founded Nation" with Economic Might of 2. For comparison, Gerber was defined a "Pivotal Nation" with Economic Might of 4. Up yours. :p
Later, while Lengels rampaged in Davar:
From Croyodon
To Gorin and Skilv'so
We purpose the remaining land between our three nations be divided as below. With the deserts in the north making it harder for Croyodon to support her population we wish for some of the grasslands in the south.
Green- Goes to Croyodon
Red- Goes to Skilv'so
Purple- Goes to Gorin
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132812&d=1153165909
This offer, to the best of my knowledge, was ignored.
Joshea the Overused Nosy Citadeler has mentioned visiting Skilv'so.
In the start of the brief Gorinese Age of Isolation:
CC: the International Community
Gorin here by withdraws all contacts and emmisaries from all nations, except from Croyodon and Skilv'so.
ooc effectively i will only talk to those two, if you want to make any official contact with me, then do it through them.
[LATER STILL:]
From the Gorinese Empire
To the International Community
Lord Kaiser Dashada Oborski warns you that any non-Masra or non-Crystalist caught in the Gorinese Empire will be put to death (with the exception of Khemri traders and priests).
ooc people who don't need to worry about this, Shalamari, Khemri, Croyodon, and Skilv'so. Anyone else, you have been warned
Dula's statue? It just spread the religion. Mind you, a lot. It's now the only religion in Croyodon, Skilv'so and Gorin, and is gaining a following in Khemri.
umm isn't Masra [Gorinese state religion, corrupted and twisted Crystallism ;) ] suposed to be spreading? or are stats not really done
It's now the sole religion of Skilv'so, Croyodon, Gorin, and in the future will spread further.
The Age of Isolation ended recently, but Skilv'so is extremelly interconnected with Gorin, for better or worse.
The Farow Aug 03, 2006, 07:04 PM From Croyodon
To Shalamari refugees
We will allow you to use our ports to launch naval expeditions, however, we ask that you in turn give us the maps of areas discovered so we can find an outlet for our growing population.
North King Aug 03, 2006, 07:07 PM Much thanks, das! :D
And I do intend to change the name at some point.

alex994 Aug 03, 2006, 07:25 PM I'm going to have a long, detailed list of stuff to ask you iggy. First of all, has the stats been updated
~Darkening~ Aug 03, 2006, 08:15 PM ~Darkening~, Gamorrea is a theocracy
Yes, but a theocracy with four diffrent religions. No rule against adding a fifth ;].
North King Aug 03, 2006, 08:21 PM Bugger all!
OK, it's secret nation time. You who drove me out, you may well regret that.
I am now quitting Skliv'so, actually, think of it as I never really started to play them in the first place, and rejoining as... well, Iggy knows who. A few others, too, if they're smart.
das Aug 03, 2006, 08:36 PM I have some suspects. The best way to deal with suspects in such a case is genocide, so bring on that golden Most Genocidal Ruler award, fortunately silver2039 is not even in this NES and is in fact on vacation.
alex994 Aug 03, 2006, 08:38 PM OOC: I'm now regretting invading Nurmafer, though I assume you, andis, won't just agree to paying us 1 eco point and going back to the status quo ? :p

Cuivienen Aug 03, 2006, 09:05 PM The Path goes on in an endless song
Above all lamentations.
I hear the frail and distant hymn
That hails the next creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing.
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?
And though the tempest loudly roars,
I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness 'round me close,
Songs in the night, they giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
While to the Path I'm clinging.
Since love is wrought across the earth,
How can I keep from singing?
When tyrants tremble in their fear
And hear their death knell ringing,
When all rejoice both far and near
How can I keep from singing?

Kentharu Aug 03, 2006, 09:27 PM gorin confirmed
North King Aug 03, 2006, 10:03 PM Kal peered into the waters of the little brook as they murmured past, oblivious to his prying eyes. The ice had mostly melted by now; it had been two weeks since the great rush of the waters had begun. Now, though there was still snow sloping over the ground in some places, and a few drifts that were still knee or thigh high, the greater part of the ground was clear, and the first few buds had begun to appear on the trees.
And in the brooks, the little spring minnows had begun to swim. The tiny fishes were no bigger than his smallest finger, but they undoubtedly were fierce little creatures–laid as eggs in the dying throes of their mothers, they matured and fed upon the mosquitos just as the latter started to hatch. Naturally, this won them great affection with Kal and the other men of his people, for mosquitos were most certainly the worst creatures that ever chanced upon the planet.
A little spring minnow now caught his gaze, silvery scales gleaming in the sunlight that poured down through the few gaps in the clouds. Its tail went still as the fish twisted in the water, looking about, then it spotting a floating mosquito egg further down the brook at a calm spot, and, tail flapping furiously, it nearly leapt out of the water and gobbled it down.
Smiling slightly, Kal rose and began to follow the winding creek down to the little lake that lay near his kin’s encampment.
The lake itself barely deserved the name–only a few hundred paces around at best, with some streams flowing into it from the surrounding countryside, and then a larger river only a few paces wide which coursed out the other end; this was the beginning of the Great River, as they called it, though the legendary few visitors they received had told his people that there were many far greater rivers than this one. Since none of Kal’s people had seen one of these, it still retained the age old name.
And so this little lake, the lake where the elk and ramids watered (for there was no other name), nestled in between the mountain walls of the great valley of the Merhai, was the home that Kal had always known, and probably would always know. For though his people wandered often through the open lands of the Merhai, following the best trails for their ramids, this lake would always be his home, always be the place they returned to every winter.
A quiet breeze picked up across the lake, and sent waves rippling; Kal looked up and noticed the sky slowly darkening, and the soft rumbling of distant thunder filled his ears.
Hurrying back to the village, he lightly wove in between the branches of the pines that dotted the shoreline, and reached the encampment just as the first drops of rain began to patter down upon the landscape.
A wooly ramid trumpeted in the distance, and the sound seemed to bring the village to life, as the people rushed to take their wares inside their roundhouses. Kal hurried through the village towards his own house, and nearly fell over as he bumped into another person with their head down, avoiding the rain.
Letting only a soft grunt escape him, he looked up, beginning to apologize, but his breath caught in his throat. Miya’s face turned as red as his must have been, and she quickly hurried into her house. He stood on the spot, slightly dumbfounded, before the real rain started and drove him inside for good that day.
OOC: Should I fill out a template, Iggy?
LightFang Aug 03, 2006, 10:13 PM The Leaving
They say that grassroots movements never work. It always takes a major political power to get things changed - it's common knowledge. Priest Azlan was never one to listen to common knowledge. He wasn't one to listen to anybody, actually, but he mostly kept that trait buried down.
It was like the idea just hit him - Our living conditions suck, why not just go move somewhere else? He shook it off as another longing for freedom, but that idea refused to leave, much like inlaws. The more he thought about it, the more he figured, Why not? It's not like Ascendant Geoyurjui can do better than me, right? Yeah...I bet it'd work.
Maybe that's not exactly what went through this man's head, but it was darned close. He dropped hints to his family and friends at first, and relatively soon, a whole underground movement was going on. It was like he opened their minds - just a crack, and soon light flooded through. And they were desperate to leave. The almost nonexistant economy was practically bankrupt, the land was completely unsuitable for living, people were starving and oppressed. And each morning, Azlan had to see the destroyed Oneist temples, the ones he had been raised to worship in...
--
It was time to leave. He wasn't going to convert any more people, the land wasn't going to magically become suitable for farming anymore, and the Swades sure weren't going to do something about this. The ships had been built and guarded all day and night against Ascendant Geoyurjui and the Loyalists. The people were all leaving and sailing off. Ascendant Geoyurjui and his supporters were nowhere to be seen. They had probably seen the futility of trying to win the majority of Svitzers back, although Azlan had to ponder the thought that if they were truly smart, they'd be leaving with him.
With the sun having just crossed over the horizon, they set sail to the south. The sea breeze was soothing and everything was peaceful. Azlan saw his advisors, the ones he trusted the most, seated around him.
"You, Will, you're Advisor of War." His eyes had a slightly dangerous twinkle to them. "The first thing we have to do when we reach shore is build up an army.
"War? Didn't we just leave to avoid war? How can we bring oppression to other people?" He sputtered a bit in disbelief. "Aren't we supposed to avoid killing people?"
"Yes." He nodded. "But dying's easy. Anybody can become a martyr. But it takes skill to defeat enemies in combat. Build up that army."
They sat a bit in silence.
"Azlan," Will said, "I don't think you're ready to run a country. I think we might get into a bit of trouble. We might be leading these people to their deaths."
"As if you've fought in battles. I'm sure we'll manage." He had that glint in his eye again. "Everything will be all right."
TerrisH Aug 03, 2006, 10:17 PM just to note, what the heck is with everyone building up these huge armies..
Majority of the nations have between 2-6 thosand troops.

LittleBoots Aug 03, 2006, 10:35 PM The mist began rolling down the lush green hills as the first rays of sunlight pierced the sky. The morning dew sparkled on the grass. The O'Cait and mac Niall clans stood in their battle lines a hundred yards apart, hundreds of barely clad men covered in their clans' markings. The O'Cait had hunted in mac Niall lands and vengeance would be had. The warriors stood, staring fiercely at their hated enemies and distant cousins.
It was a cold morning. So very cold, one could see one's breath. The animals didn't seem to mind, though. The native armagh [1] began the daily process of picking and storing fruits and nuts.
The two armies charged.
Another day had begun in Tir Tairngire.

@LightFang- That is indeed it. Do you want to name it anything or are you good with 'South Svitzerland'. You may not want to be associated with that name.
Does anyone actually remember anything about these guys beyond their description? I was hunting through the original thread, and couldn't even find who led them...Azash. He virtually did nothing with them.
Skilv'so is definitely a fixer-upper... no, more like a lost opportunity that may yet be redeemed.
Iggy, will you add the Shalamari flag to the stats as well? It's in the Flags! thread a few pages back. It's the flag with an owl on it. Thanks! Will do.
So Iggy, did you change it so Zemora was the nation we originally contacted? Because their nation and relgion are the most similar to mine...It's possible. Really, there isn't much good historical record.
It could also be a story told by Zemorans to the Tuatha, about the coming of the 'Sea Gods'. It doesn't take long for a story to get mangled.
From: Citadel

Friends in the East, we share many fundamental beliefs--especially the belief that our Eldos, and your Sky Gods, have commanded us to benefit all mankind. And is it not true that peace is the only way to do so? We would like to observe the peoples of your continents, compare their religions to our, and see if they all share common elements. Would some of you care to visit our continent?Certainly!

First of all, has the stats been updated?Ja.

Cuivienen Aug 04, 2006, 12:17 AM Some more Kelia religious songs, similar to Christian hymns.
Through sunshine or tempest, over land or sea,
Whatever befalls us, where the Path calls us, quickly we would be;
The toils that await us though we cannot know,
At the command with heart and hand we will go.
We will go, we will go, we will gladly, gladly go,
Though skies are dark and chilly winds may blow,
The lost to find, or bravely meet the foe,
Wherever the Path calls us we will gladly go.
------
A glorious day is dawning,
And over the waking earth
The heralds of the morning
Are springing into birth.
In dark and hidden places
There shines the blessed light;
The beam of truth displaces
The darkness of the night.
The advocates of error
Foresee the glorious morn,
And hear in shrinking terror,
The coming of reform:
It rings from hill and valley,
It breaks oppression's chain.
A thousand freemen rally,
And swell the mighty strain.
The word has been spoken,
The light has broken forth,
Far shines the blessed token
Upon the startled earth,
To hearts and homes benighted,
The blessed Truth is given,
And peace and love, united,
Point onward to Perfection.
The Path is generally characterized as a continuous song, a sort of thrumming of nature, or as an eternal beam of light. Both will come up often. Kelia sometimes speak of being called to the Path, or to do something specific along the Path, though the general belief is that the Path is often poorly interpreted by an individual and better interpreted by a group.

So Gobe of the renowned (infamous?) Foolish family has risen to the chancellorship to take the reins of this pleasantly out of the way nation.
Eventually I will be able to wade through the 5000+ posts of that monstrosity of a thread (so far I've only gone through the last 10 or 15 pages), but in the meantime is there anything I should know about Masra Crystalism besides this
Crystalism- Founded in Yath al'Shanaal of old, the heart of the religion lies in Wardash and the Stone Circles of Ruby.
How tolerant is this religion? Does it have a large impact on the civil organization of society e.g. castes or a powerful priestly class?
Skilvso to the Shalamari refugees:

Skilvso to Gorin and Croyodon:
Hey neighbors. It's been awhile since we last got together for a good carousing and a bit of a talk-things-over, so we just wanted to take this opportunity, what with all the recent upsets in the lands out yonder east, to make sure we're all on good terms. We's happy with the borders and all, and of course haven't had any complains about your polite people more than a bit of sheep-hustling on the borders, which is, after all, the kind of things hardy young lads and lasses should be doing for fun, so all well and good there. Pivot = a pole (i.e on what the night sky turns or pivots)
Strides = some measure of latitude
Red Trees is just an island, probably a famous one, used as a signpost on the way to where Belili is.
Why? because I damn well can, thats why :D - also there are other reasons.
North King Aug 04, 2006, 02:12 PM A week and a half of raining had watered the mountains well–even though it was approaching winter, and the snows were again on the advance, the streams still rushed by, waters almost up to overflowing. The spring minnows were not faring so well this autumn, having to struggle upstream against the waters at every step of the way.
Kal tripped over his own moccasins, and cursed himself for looking so foolish, but he could not help it. His mind seemed ignorant of his body, and both of those were strangers to his soul–he felt out of place everywhere, and awkward besides, tripping over his ungainly long limbs. He was soon to become a man, he knew, but the journey was not nearly as enjoyable as he hoped the destination would be.
He shook his head at himself, and continued onwards, slipping in the ankle deep snows that they were traveling through, though thankfully he never lost his moccasins.
The ramids his clan was herding were completely oblivious to his struggles, though for a moment he imagined that one turned his head, looked him over, and shook his head with a snort. He also caught a glimpse of his father up ahead, stern and solemn, but the sight was blocked by the massive bulk of a ramid as quickly as it had appeared.
The terrain was becoming more hilly the further they went, a rolling blanket of forest covering the hills as they went onward toward the horizon, and out of sight. A few of the ramids paused momentarily to snap a branch off of a tree with surprising tenderness, then chewing it voraciously; several more occasionally stooped to drink from the stream with such ferocity it was surprising that there was still water in it when they finished.
Then there was sudden shouting from the head of the column; men were in panic for some reason, and calls rang out. One of the men, Sahar, ran back, white faced and looking as though he had seen death itself come.
“Get the children to safety,” he babbled to no one in particular. His eyes latched on Kal.
“Kal! Are you old enough to hold a spear yet?”
“Of course I am.” He felt affronted.
“Then get to the front of the column. The Fairhelt clan sent a few raiders; they’re square in our path.”
Kal felt a sudden constriction in his heart. It was not supposed to be this way. No clans were supposed to attack each other in autumn, not with winter oncoming–
“Go!”
He nodded brusquely, and ran lightly to the front, the snow crunching slightly under his moccasins. Once or twice he almost slipped and fell, but he managed to regain his balance by catching the fur of a ramid to steady himself.
Kal grabbed a spear from the back of one of the ramids, and went up to the very front, where a minor skirmish was already ensuing. It became clear to him at once that, though his clan were not outnumbered by these men, that if someone did not do something, the raiders would do far too much damage.
Hefting his spear, he leapt into the fray.
The sights and sounds of battle filled his sense, as the men of the forests danced and whirled, while several wooly ramids lumbered past, plowing great holes in the lines, mangling bodies of the Fairhelt raiders. He dashed at one of the raiders immediately, and suddenly was locked in combat. The spears danced at each other, lashing out. He parried the other’s blows as best he could, but his opponent had a shield where Kal had none.
A great stab opened up the side of his shoulder, blood pouring out through the furs, and he felt slightly dizzy as the raider grinned and raised himself for the killing blow.
The spear was useless now, too long to pivot to strike this man, so Kal grabbed his dagger from his belt, dived low, and drove the bronze deep into the man’s belly, twisting it. When he pulled it out, a warm gout of foul smelling blood greeted him; the vandal toppled over, his eyes glazed, his knees folding in a forever silent prayer.
Kal fumbled at the man’s shield, wanting to claim it for his own, but it was strapped to the raider’s arm, as suddenly another one of the enemies was bearing down on him. Desperate, he slashed at the straps, opening up the dead man’s arm, and blood slowly poured out onto his shield, even as Kal wrenched it out from under the dead flesh and brought it overhead to take the blow from this new foe’s sword.
The metal met wood in a dull thunk, and the man cursed, but Kal knew he was doomed unless he did something. He rose and shoved the shield in his foes’s face, driving him back temporarily, but his bronze dagger only just caught the return blow from the raider’s sword, and he felt the shock go through his arm heavily. Somehow he retained his grip on the knife, and pressed onward, trying to stab, but meeting only hard wood, which smashed against his closed fist. This time, he really did drop the dagger.

Description: The Merhai, or rather, this branch of the Merhai, were a peaceful people, herding their wooly ramids for sustenance, and catching the creatures of the forest to take their furs south to trade. But in recent years, the Fairhelt clan of the Merhai grew to become ambitious, and drove the other Merhai out of their valley to the south. Thus, a union of clans, under the leadership of Kahir the Fox, made the journey out of the valley, over the high mountains, and on a migration southward. Herding their wooly ramids, these clans now look for a better future elsewhere, and their dream of settling a new nation has begun to pick up more support from the tribes that they pass along the way.

LittleBoots Aug 04, 2006, 02:29 PM Connall stared through the smoke issuing from the fire blazing in the Great Hall. The assembled chieftains were in an uproar, all yelling at once, spitting insults, and screaming threats. They were bitterly divided over the Strangers' offer. Were they messangers from the mighty Sky Gods? Or were they demons here to guide them astray? Surely the Sky Gods desired the Testing, how else could they decide who to present with gifts? But then why did not the Sky Gods come bearing weapons, but tools of peace? These were the questions and everyone had their own opinion.
"We should kill them and offer them to the Sky Gods upon the next Descent!"
"You fools! Of course the Gods want peace, we must cease our wars and listen to the Citadel!"
"Why kill them? We should imprison them! The next Descent is not far off now!"
"You would change things that have been this way for countless ages! You have been deceived by devils!"
And so on.
Connall finally grew tired of it all. He motioned with a hand and two large bodyguards stepped forward into the middle of the room. The unarmed chieftains understood the statement quite well and, despite their flaring tempers, restrained themselves and waited for the War Chief to speak. He spoke slowly, deliberately. No one would dare speak over him in his stronghold.
"Aodhaem, you are right. Things have been this way for countless ages. The exact same way. Shall we go on forever, tearing down what we build up with the Sky God's gifts? Perhaps these Strangers are right. Perhaps not. But at the very least, I believe this is a sign from Dagda Himself, the Great Warrior of the Tuatha de Divail [1]. I believe He wants us to, at the very least, stop fighting each other. This has brought us nothing. To be strong, especially with possibility of numerous strong nations across the Saefern Mutha. We will allow their Godspeakers to come among our people. We will hear what more they have to say and we will cooperate. That does not mean I will let this land become weak, or that I will not fight any of those who oppose my rule. That is defense, and they have no law against that. We will reconvene tomorrow, for we are all very tired and it is late. Tomorrow, my lords, I will hear your counsel. But tonight, my word is law."
Connall watched as the Chieftains began to leave, congregating in small groups to discuss the latest session of the Council. Lately, he'd had to threaten them more and more to get things done. They were becoming unruly and something would have to be done.
My word is law. Not true, yet. But soon. Soon.

Background: The Ida'an'i'i (Lit: People of the Fat Sea) have expanded out onto the open seas from Ol'o ("the first place"); fishing, and sailing, and warring with other I'i tribes. However a few crucial advantages have lead them to dominate their wide spaced islands and subjucate and assimilate the weaker tribes. The first is a crude system of marks that can pass for writing in a good light, the second is the domesication of the Thee'ul, a species of large black seagull that can carry these written messages from island to island, keeping the chiefs in contact and making them a true nation. The third, and most important is the institution of the Mua'i'i; a tribe within the tribe, an aristocracy of knowledge. Trained and bred for eidactic memories, each Mua'i'i' is a storehouse of songs and learning - map songs, building songs, teaching songs, and whenever two Mua'i'i meet they share their knowledge. Thus the culture of the Ida'an'i'i is spread throughout the islands, and they retain a unique sense of identity.

Can I assume, then, that my culture is still Wonder of the World? What of my confidence? Do I have two or none spending points? I prolly should've PM'd you this, but.
OR, does this mean I should take over Gorin altogether?
Lord_Iggy Aug 04, 2006, 02:51 PM Your culture is utterly broken, mostly a memory. Your people live on, and within them, fragments of the former glory of Shalamari survive.
When do you want orders btw Iggy
Next week. No update this weekend. It's going to be a longish update, as the only two wars look to be over soon. Unless a lot changes, the Nurmaferis will get crushed within one turn, as will the Emorans. Then, there will be time to do a century or two update. Not a BT, just a longer IT.
I'm adding those new nations to the map, BTW.
TerrisH Aug 04, 2006, 03:05 PM nope, we won't get Crushed. I'm currently trying to talk to contempt. I'm eather going to pay Tribute, or surrender. I hope it's just tribute.
eh, and the worse case, we surrender and preserve ourselves for a few Turns under their Rule. then Pop back up and rebel, takeing ..
hmm actuall,y I might just surrnder outright with a few small conditions. A small vacation from this Nes might be what I need. and If I surrender right, I can still Reclaim Emor later, when the Lengal empier starts to Crumble in the distant future. eh, haven't decided yet. have to wait to talk to contempt.
Kal'thzar Aug 04, 2006, 04:18 PM NK, I will be sorely disapointed if you just killed me off :p
Silver Steak Aug 04, 2006, 05:34 PM I will definitely have a good vacation from NESing altogether. It's time for me to undergo what Finmaster has already Finnished. :p
I'm leaving for the army on Wednesday, and won't be back until at least a few weeks, at least. Which means I will most likely not even see what becomes of my exodus until I get back on leave. Luckily, I'm in the Royal Guard, and will be able to get home on most weekends. Still, I need to get through boot camp first, and that is in nowhere. For now, just NPC me after my orders for this turn.

There will be no peace, unless your people surrender fully to the Lengelzai, becoming a province of the Empire. We may allow autonomy, but that depends on the quickness of your surrender. We remind you, that any rebellion will be put down with utmost contempt, and events similar to Shalamari will remind you of your place.

Cuivienen Aug 04, 2006, 08:11 PM Iggy, not to seem impatient, but when will we get the map with the new nations? I'm anxious to know what my surrounding geography looks like.
Cuivienen Aug 04, 2006, 08:57 PM Faradin felt lost in the city. Keliosir was not his home village of Halsir, not by a long shot. It was immense and sprawling, like a giant slumbering across the tops of its three hills and settling into the valleys. The walls about the city were themselves taller than any building he had seen before, but within those walls far higher buildings rose, some light and delicate and others solid and strong. And, of course, everywhere people filled the streets to overflowing, jostling their way through the crowds. Vendors not only from the city and the countryside, but also from Alsidir and lands beyond the mountains lined the markets, hawking wares from the most mundane (wheat cakes) to exotic tapestries bought only by the extremely wealthy. Faradin thought it very well that he would be staying only a short time in the city, for he would never fit in with the city folk.
His job was simple, his goal not far away. Faradin had only to reach the holy Hall of the Council, to deliver a message and receive one in turn, and he would be off back to Halsir. It all had seemed so simple until he set forth from his inn near the east gate that morning. Now, he was hopelessly lost in the winding streets, the holy Hall eluding him. He could see it standing out atop the highest of the three hills, and he had been following streets that seemed to lead towards it all day but never seemed to get closer. At this point, it seemed like a very good plan to return to the inn and set out for the holy Hall the next day. However, just as this idea sprung into his head, Faradin spotted the blue-and-white robes of a Guide out of the corner of his eye. Turning towards the flash of deep blue, he yelled out for the Guide to stop. He did.
“Young Follower, what may I assist you with?”
Slightly embarrassed, Faradin managed to mumble, “I’m afraid I’m new to Keliosir and have gotten somewhat lost. Could you guide me to the holy Hall of the Council?”
The Guide broke into a wide smile. “A pilgrim, are you? Come to watch the will of the Path, or simply to see the holy Hall? Certainly, I will show you the way. Follow me.” He began to walk rather quickly down the street Faradin had just come up. Faradin struggled to catch up.
“Actually, I’m not here on a pilgrimage per se, although I very much look forward to seeing the holy Hall up close. I have a sealed letter from the House near my hometown that must be delivered to the Revered Almadin.[1] Do you know the man?”
“Yes, yes, I do, though I am wondering what a rural House would have to write to the Revered that is of too great importance for pigeon-post. Come along, keep up.”
Faradin scrambled after the Guide; she was not as old as one might expect, and apparently quite active. They passed through tiny alleyways and across wide avenues before finally coming to a large square above which rose the long steps up the holy Hall. The Guide stopped short. “Well, here you are.”
“Thank you very much. I only hope I can find someone as good at guiding me to find my way back to my inn!”
“There are always Guides around the holy Hall, young Follower, and we are always willing to help someone out.” And, with that, she turned and quickly disappeared into the crowd.
He looked up with reverence at the holy Hall. Only one thing to do then. He began to climb the steps.
[1]I have decided against writing a story about Almadin's election as Revered. Suffice to say that he was a compromise choice.
~Darkening~ Aug 05, 2006, 12:35 AM The Beginning
"No one ever said life would be easy. Without struggle, life would be meaningless. Life is a continous struggle to cleanse your soul and earn your right into the One's graces. Only through constant heartbreak do you know that you still have a heart." The words echoed through my earns as hte man sighed and leaned heavily on an elbow. The old priest unconsciously rubbing a bronze star[1] in his hand, deep in throught.
"One must first live their own life before they can lead another through their own.[2] Just because of surronding factors does not give me the right to accept you, as I've told you so many times before. I'm sorry but you can't become a priest." The old man finished.
"Yes father."We sat in silence for a few minutes befor ethe old priest sighed and got up, returning to his duties at the front of the church. People bustled around in the old church, the first founded in Vael Dash, preparing for the evening services.
it was pure irony in its simplest form- it took the downfall of a people to recognize the divine above. In the old lands[3] people treated the faith as if it was a third wheel: to be acknowldged if useful, but otherwise ignored. It was the complete oppisite now- if one didn't attend the prayer services, they were treated as if they were complete social outcasts: ignored and shunned from the rest of society.
I sighed. The truth sunk in as I stood up and walked to the exit of the church. No matter how hard I tried, father wouldn't even budge. Some people know what they want to do sicne they're young. Some want to work the land, others want to live off the sea, and others- like me- wanted to save their souls. Only the stupid law kept all the young blood from the ministry.
I pushed the heavy oak door open and was greeted by a cold blast of wind- and father calling my name. "Elias!" The old man jogged down the the aisle and stopped before me. "Here." He said, shoving a few druks[4] into my hand. I nodded and walked into the cold street. "Be back in time for the service." He called out after me before closing the heavy door to thrawt the advincing winds.
Vael Dash bustled around me. The city was the heartlands of the people and was easily the most populated of the three commisioned cities. I drew my cloak closer and made my way through the winding streets. The wind grew enraged and increased its howleling.
I laughed as I saw one of the citadelers, undoubtly unused to being exposed to the temperatures, shivering in the snows with his colleagues. The were arguing angrily with some government offical. Appearntly they wanted to dock until the storm passed and sought shelter form the government. I laughed again at their predicament. While trade wasn't forbidden with the heathens, inns were notorius for overcharging them for staying.
I continued my slow march, passing the temporary home of the remains of the late Bishop Jais. It was notorius for only being a small roped off section where no one was allowed to step. A great controversy had recently erupted in the state. Some wanted to leave the Bishop where lay, while others wanted to build a respectful resting place for his earthly remains.
After a lot of arguring it was finally decided to build a proper tomb to his memory- and his apprentices were going all out. The had already claimed some land along the river from a wealthy merchant and had begun to send out teams to haul white stone back from the mountains. Work on the White Tomb was scheduled to begin soon.
I finally made my way to a large oak building set against the Rydos. The inn, Fool's Wanderer, was crowded with people constantly walking in- a typical wednesday. People always gathered in the various taverns before prayers. I shoved the wood door open and relished the welcoming sounds.
While music in the old lands had been confided to hymns and prayer song, it wasn't until the exodus that the limitations were relieved. People really had nothing to do on the long boat rides, so they began to write songs and put them to music. Music was exploding in the country.
Right now a small group was playing in the back of the the room with tambils.[5] The music echoed throughout the large room as men lumped together and generally spread gossip from the day. I made my way over to the counter and put two coins on the counter, ordering a round of Tash[6] with a slice of pie. I made my way over to a wooden table to enjoy my break before the services, the words the old man said still ringing in my ears
[1]Avien- I think I've mentioned it before, but basically is an eight-pointed star, usually cast from copper or bronze, used in religious ceramonies. Used as an icon for the One, refering to the eight directions (as in the eight points) that represent the omnipotionetal (forgive the spelling) of the One.
[2]In Pirian, you generally have to be around 35 to become a priest. As priests usually not only teach the word of the Durma, but also serve somewhat as "psycharists" by giving advice.
[3]Old Lands- Davar
[4] Druk- currency of Arcadia. Small coins cast from copper (usually the size of an american penny) stamped with a symbol of diffrent leaders form the country's past to differ denominations.
[5]- Tambils- drums usually played with a primitive string instrument.
[6]- Tash- a drink popular in Arcadia. Basically a primitive vodka made from grains natural to the region. Usually served dilluted with either water or heated milk mixed with a nutmeg-like plant form the Arcadian region.
jalapeno_dude Aug 05, 2006, 12:39 AM What did the Citadel do to Davar that you hate us so much?
~Darkening~ Aug 05, 2006, 12:41 AM Nothing to Davar ;]. But Arcadia is all religious and everything, so its pretty much the religious diffrences. You're just the one thats most involved in the area.

1889 Aug 06, 2006, 12:50 AM Luculis looked over the decree. It was short and stark, little more than a receipt for some bureaucratic purpose. It ordered the appropriate people to begin laying roads to connect Tellium’s cities. He stamped the page with his seal and handed it to the messenger. That was all the effort that legislation required of him now. In the old days even something as obviously worthwhile as a road network would have taken weeks of debate to convince some dimwit on the Assembly how valuable such an endeavor was and weeks more of secret agreements while those that could see it allowed them selves to be bribed. Now Luculis just had to stamp an order. He couldn’t help feeling that his talents were being wasted, in fact his talents where becoming increasingly outdated.
The world was changing, the great hegemons had all fallen, reliable allies proved fickle and the major faiths had spilled across national borders. It was no longer a world that could be bent by any one man no matter how absolute his power. The new force of destiny could not be harnessed so easily, for even its most efficacious agents where also it’s most unwitting tools.

Wubba360 Aug 06, 2006, 08:42 AM The Call of War
The men stood around their camp fire. Archers placing their arrows in their quivers and swords. Men had heard of what nurmafer was doing. Myocaca had only wanted peace, but now they had awaken the Dragon of the South.
He was said to be of Emorian blood. Raised as a oneists, but soon converted to the ways of blade once he left his home. He had been from the start a man of great posture. He looked proudly upon the gates of blade which now stood in remeberance of Myocaca's first two kings, now both laid to rest.
He was a man of charisma and carried an engraved ivory sword at his side. It had the words, "Dead to the last Man"
He had studied and admired the last stand of Davar. He admired how honorable they had been. Seeing their decision to go against an army ten times their size and still give them hell was the greatest achievement ever. He desired to have a battle that would test his skills as a general and a warrior. And walk away from it with victory.
He was prepared for war. He had a scar on his face always reminding him of his first mistake.
When he was a young boy he had challenged a swordmaster in his town to a duel. Only at the age of eight he was no match for the aged sage. He thought the man to weak to put up a fight. When charging him the man didn't even pull out his sword. He doged every attack and then with a flash knocked down the boy with the handle of his sword.
Unwilling to accept defeat the boy had charged once more, merely got dropped kicked. When the boy made his final charge he sidestepped, grabbed the sword out of the boys hands and slashed his face.
Bleeding on the ground, the man had thrown the sword atthe boy in disgrace.
"Fool you know not of how to live by the sword. You must first master your feelings, and fears. A swordmaster does not become who he is by a simple swordplay, he learns by learning his opponent. You have much to learn oneist. You may one day face me when you are ready but it is not this day."
Walking away the boy was left alone. To wonder why he had lost.
--------------------------------------------------------
That was long ago, before he had followed his new path. He would never forget the words of the man. The dragon had learned how to control his emotions and become sublime and calm in battle. Finding key attributes in his enemies emotion. Now he could excecute these skills on an army. The dragon of the south had heard his calling.
The end of the beggining had come, now a real war would be waged.

The spy remained silent, his face battered and bruised. He was hanging from the ceiling by a long chain. Sweat mixed with blood dripped from his body onto a small pool beneath him on the floor. The interrogator sat comfortably in a chair, dressed in all black leather, with leather gloves. One could hardly make out the blood that was splattered all over him. The two were in a small cell, dark, with only one candle that lay on a table next to the interrogator, the light casted on his face made him seem evil. His face bore a smile, a devilish smile, his black eyes light with glee at the sight of this broken man who hung before him. His hands were folded casually in his lap, his legs crossed as he sat and looked at the spy.
“Who do you work for?”
“You will get nothing from me”
“Is that so?” the interrogators smile grew wider as he clenched his fist. “Are you absolutely sure about that my friend?”
The spy remained silent. The interrogator chuckled and rubbed his hands together, shivering a little. If one were there, in the hot, dank room, one would wonder why he was shivering.
“I think its getting a bit cold in here. Perhaps we should bring in some coals to warm this room up” Not once did his eyes move from the spy, even as the door to the cell creaked open and a heavily armor clad guard walked in with a bucket of coals. The clanking of the bucket as it hit the floor echoed throughout the room. The guard quickly left the room as silence once again gripped it. The only sound was the slow sizzle of the coals.
“That’s nice, feels so warm and cozy in here doesn’t it?”The interrogator said as he slowly put his hands near the coal. The spy said nothing. His head hung, hair matted down by sweat. All he wore was a tattered pair of pants. His body was shriveled from lack of food and cuts were slashed all over his body. The interrogator tightened his gloves slowly as his cold black eyes stared at the spy
“These are Ramid hide gloves” He said, lifting his gloved hand up “They can resist almost any kind of heat or attack, a very interesting materia, very tough, like the animal”
He reached down into the bucket of coals and picked one up. The coal sizzled slowly in his gloved hands as he stared at the spy.
“It’s a very interesting feeling, to old a coal in your hands, and yet, feel nothing, would you like to try?”
The man finally raised his head up. Fear gripped him, and how the interrogator relished it. A devious grin spread across his face as he rose from his seat. He tossed the glowing coal up and down in his hand. Quickly he grabbed the man’s hand, he did not struggle, he could not, he only stared at the coal in fear.
“Who do you work for” Silence “Very well my friend”
Immediately he shoved the coal in the spy’s hand. All that could be heard now, were screams.

1889 Aug 06, 2006, 12:04 PM Bogdan was a refugee. It no longer mattered that he had been a wealthy man in Gerber, it no longer mattered that he lost everything when he fled the madness of Toghol-King to smuggle his family south but it would matter that he retained the knowledge of iron tools in Bronze Age Tellium.
He claimed a spot of wilderness near Noras. Iron tools allowed Bogdan to make a living on lands that Telliums found too difficult to work. He felled trees and cleared away the stones to reveal bare earth upon which to rebuild. Standing with his family in front of that rich virgin soil he had all that he ever wanted, except to prove to himself that he was not subject to the decree of an evil madman. He would not live the rest of his life as Toghol-King’s victim. He and his family would have all that he had intended them to have.
They kept their iron tools a close secret but the bounty of their crops was obvious to everyone. With each harvest Bogdan saved until he was able to purchase his neighbors lands. In moved his growing family with their iron tools and next season the profits where even larger. In a short time Bogdan’s was the wealthiest and most respected family in Noras. When the grains were milled into sweet rolls for the Autorex, his children earned fortune in Lux, as biscuits sold to Svitzerlanders outfitting for their exodus or just trying to live one more day his grandchildren became rich in Zarz, when ships full of wheat set sail to feed to the powerful war horses of Lengel his great grandchildren acquired assets in Andama too.
By this time the wealthiest dynasty in Tellium had also thoroughly infiltrated the upper levels of government. They applied their influence to redress the last great injustice in Tellium. Tellium; were the people were free from oppression and free to worship (more or less) but where the rich, or rather their wealth, was tied to one spot. Like elsewhere at this time coinage was a patchwork affair. The leaders of nations, sometimes even cities, minted money to keep the people and their wealth tied to that region. Coins extolling the wrong god(s) where not welcome in some places, currency bearing the profile of an unpopular conqueror received unfavorable exchange rates and if you did travel there was always a money changer to pay.
Until in Tellium a new coin was struck, it was not covered with symbols of national power or prayers to benevolent dieties, it was to be the principle of a much more subtle and personal type of coercion. The new coins were oval so that it would not roll away, not so small as to be lost easily and not so big as to be uncomfortable to handle. On the face would be shafts of wheat to depict the denomination (depending on what material it is composed of) the back would be a map of the world, at the center of which was Tellium. These little oval discs would rise like the sun on a new age.

Oh? Honest relations, Lord Kaiser? I think honesty might have served Gorin well before it decided to play games with Lengel honor, and invade a country with which it had a treaty with, killing my grandfather in battle. Spies were placed to prevent such a travestry from occuring again, since Gorin does not abide by treaties.
Perhaps a treaty is not necessary, Lord Kaiser? Perhaps my spies will be enough to hold Gorin in check, since treaties mean nothing to it. Perhaps there should be no non-agression pact between our peoples, and that we should look with wary eyes toward Gorin.
Do well to remember that. Even if one of my eyes is taken from me, I will be watching. Do not do more to earn my displeasure. Or perhaps Lengel eyes will stop looking South, and start looking West.

There was no agreement with them not preventing war. There was nothing 'illegal' about my invasions, as there were no treaties or laws that mandated peace. Yet, there was such a treaty with Gorin, and Gorin invaded. A double standard you attribute to your-self, accusing my prefectly legal invasions to be illegal when Gorin invaded illegally breaking a treaty. Unlike the Gorin, the Lengels have not invaded illegally.
And this insult to my people will not be ignored.
The Lengelzai declares the Treaty of the Wardash invalid for this insult regarding Lengel honor in regards to our legal invasions. This agression by the Gorin against our safe gaurds against Gorin treachery is troubling, and unless a formal apology is made, the Lengel horde will meet this agression with agression.

Silver Steak Aug 06, 2006, 03:15 PM Can I have a word? Thanks.
Gorin should be patient (not to mention build up defenses) and wait for the inevitable Lengel collapse. The Lengels should try to conquer Gorin to prove that all of the CRA was vanquished by it, before its inevitable fall. That way, they can boast forever that their people once founded a great empire that indeed ruled over the entire Cradle. And Gorin will hopefully re-emerge after the Lengels are suitably weakened, or at least have an honorable defeat not unlike that of Shalamari.
Really, that seems the best solution right now. OOC-wise, at least. But like somebody said on the previous page, inventing causes that are optimal for your personal wishes is a long established habit. No sense in criticizing it really. It's an inherent part of NESing if you ask me. ;)
EDIT: Iggy, NPC me after this update, willya? And if the exodus is a complete failure, let the people settle and slowly establish themselves as a Gorinese minority or something.

I think Iggy uses this as a general guidline, not as something to base your strategy on.
Cuivienen Aug 06, 2006, 07:35 PM Exactly. If you launch a charge with your Archers and have your Axemen try to fling their axes from a distance at the enemy, they will be slaughtered. Better to ignore the numbers and use a good strategy.

I thought that if you pumped eco into promoting a city, and gave a good enough reason, the city would upgrade. Also, I thought that Norvalin being the nation of the most extremist exiles in the known world would be reason enough to provide a culture center. (And the fact that Unias is now more or less a Mecca analogue to Norvalins)
But I'm not really complaining. Just a little confused.

Imago Aug 07, 2006, 02:49 PM Frozen Truth
“It’s cold.”
“What did you expect, Falin? It’s always cold.”
“Colder than usual, I mean, Regus.”
“You are true in that.”
The two Norvalin stood on the battlements of Castle Highrun, nestled in the New Range [1], and built against the Nor River. They were guards. But they were not any guards. They were Returned. Both had trekked into the frozen tundra for a year, to harden themselves to the cause. Now they were back, and more loyal soldiers could not be found.
But Falin and Regus cared little of themselves, of their abilities. They lived to serve the larger whole. They lived to serve Norvalin.
“Who do you think they are?” Falin asked his partner, pointing down at a band of perhaps twenty, making their way through the snowy ground, and heading straight at Highrun’s gates.
“Redcloaks,” said Regus with a grunt. “Who else?”
Redcloaks were natives of the New World who refused to join with the Norvalin way. Redcloaks were those who resisted violently against the cause of unity.
Falin looked at Regus. “Upon closer inspection, I agree with you, brother.” [2]
“Should we deal with them?” asked Regus.
“Not together,” said Falin. “One of us stopping twenty will make a better legend than twenty against two. I will go down to greet the Redcloaks. You hold our soldiers at the ready.”
Regus, the Returned with slightly lesser rank, nodded and turned to the other soldiers on the battlements, obeying the order.
Falin sighed, and headed down from the battlements, out of the castle, and out through the main gate. He approached the Redcloaks.
“What be your business here?” he asked them, calmly surveying the twenty. “You do know that your numbers are not great enough to take this castle.”
The Redcloaks were all battle hardened, and battle scared. They wore thick cloaks to keep warm in the cold, and each carried a weapon.
The leader of the Redcloaks, a massive man with a black beard, who towered over Falin, was the one to respond. “We are tired, and we seek friendship,” he said. “Let us stay a night at Castle Highrun.”
“So you can slaughter us all in our beds at night?” asked Falin. “I think not.”
“It was a bad ruse,” muttered a smaller Redcloak, and instantly his fellows glared at him, angry that he abandoned the ploy.
“Do not be mad at your fellow,” said Falin. “I did not belive your intentions were benign even for a moment. He looked firmly at the Redcloak leader. “You are Blackbeard, the most famous of the Redcloaks. You would never come to seek peace.”
“So,” said Blackbeard. “You have found me out, and Castle Highrun will survive another day. But…I can still kill you. You are out in the open.”
And Blackbeard lunged, drawing a massive battle axe.
Quickly, Falin drew his sword, and cut the battle axe in two, neatly separating the lethal iron blade from the handle.
Blackbeard found himself swinging nothing more than a glorified stick.
In a pair of quick stabs, Falin pierced Blackbeard’s vitals, and he fell to the ground, dead, his red blood pooling in the white snow.
At that moment, the singular moment he had before the other nineteen Redcloaks began to rush at him, Falin smiled. They stood no chance. He felt sorry for them.
The nineteen became eighteen in short order. Then seventeen. Then sixteen. When the number of Redcloaks was reduced to ten, Falin shouted out, “Stop!”
And the Readcloaks stopped. They saw their fellows dead on the ground, they knew what would happen if they ignored Falin’s parlay.
“What do you want?” growled the Redcloaks’ new leader. “Let’s finish this.”
“Why?” asked Falin.
The Redcloaks’ new leader was a man almost as large as Blackbeard. He stepped right in front of Falin, holding a spear. “Why?” he laughed. “Because we are enemies.”
“What is your name?” asked Falin.
“Snow,” said the man. “Why do you care?”
“Because we do not have to fight,” said Falin. “I could kill you second ten as easily as I killed the first ten, but I do not wish to.”
“What do you wish?” asked Snow.
“I wish for you to join us.”
“Your people took our homes away from us,” said Snow. “We will never ally with Norvalin. We want revenge.”
“Who told you that story?” asked Falin.
“My grandfather,” said Snow.
“So you, personally, never saw a Norvalin steal a New Worlder home?”
“That is correct,” said Snow, reluctantly. “But I trust my grandfather to have told the truth.”
“Why?” asked Falin.
“He is my grandfather, you fool.”
“But he never showed you any evidence.”
Snow had nothing to say to that.
“Wars are started because of misunderstandings, and evil men,” said Falin. “You do not seem to be an evil man, so you must misunderstand my nation.”
“What are you talking about?” asked Snow.
And so Falin explained. He told of the Second Fall, of the Second Exodus, of how the Norvalin came to be, indeed, Norvalin. Snow and the other Redcloaks listened attentively. They had never heard the story before.
“The purpose of Norvalin is to create a paradise on earth,” concluded Falin. “We do not sanction oppression of any kind. We, while primarily Oneists, do not persecute those of other religions. All we wish to do is create a nation where people can live in safety and security, and can have a say in their government.”
“That was quite a story,” said Snow.
“Will you join us?” asked Falin. “Will you become Norvalin, and turn your strengths to helping make our noble goal a reality?”
The ten former Redcloaks spoke as one.
“Yes.”

The Swade have no right to talk of honor, as if it is their cloak. Suwapa alone speaks of that. Perhaps the Davarian accounts are less kind to the Swade in its histories, and that is the reason for our confusion, but it matters little to us now. Are you kidding me? The Lengel view of honor is alot different than your view, let me just put it like that. For example, the Lengels are not above using spies, because they believe that it is honorable to use every advantage they have to win. The Lengels will kill populations because it is honorable to purge these lesser people. And the Lengels viewed the Shalamari, and now the Bladeiests, as a lesser people.
However, the Lengels are 'honorable' in the fact that they will always abide by their word, even to traitors, although they like using word games to avoid actually giving their word, unless giving their word benefits them. So you see, Lengel Honor is skewed, but it is honor. And I am acting IC, because I moulded the culture and leaders through my stories and my actions in the Updates and behind the scences. So really Swiss, you have no idea what IC really is for Lengels. But I do, and you should take that at face value.

Kentharu Aug 08, 2006, 01:04 AM in other words the lengel use honor to serve them. so shut up swiss, your going to die
1889 Aug 08, 2006, 01:18 AM The new coins did not fundamentally change markets, after all local coins had been in use for some time, but they did dramatically expand trade. The merchant outfitting his ship in Andama could now easily compare prices for provisions with the farmers in Noras; and with the state of the roads, transportation had never been cheaper. Those wealthy farmers could use the new coins to influence bureaucrats in Lux for favorable tariffs. Those ambitious bureaucrats could flaunt their success by purchasing elegant clothes from the tailors of Zarz. Those same tailors could ship their stock to the merchants of Andama for overseas trade.
The economy was booming everywhere but nowhere was it more vibrant than Andama. The roads connected all the cities but had yet to cross any international border, as a result most trade had to travel by sea out of one of Tellium’s two major ports. Zarz, opened on a sea well known for the numerous deadly battles it has hosted, was more of a naval base than a commercial port. Andama on the other hand was already well acquainted with foreign imports. It had long been the entry point of Kalmer and Lengel soldiers traveling to the Khemrian front, so while it may not have been quite cosmopolitan it was better acquainted with foreigners and the exotic goods that are made available when cultures meet.
Andama had another important asset that made it a preferable trade port. It was the home of The Tellus Bank. Money-Changers were one of the professions adversely affected by the new coinage, but a small group who saw the opportunity combined assets to offer a slightly different service, money-lending. This superposition of available credit and potentially large profits gave Andama in these early days a feverish pace. In the end few individual merchants struck it rich but The Tellus Bank and Andama were ultimately set on very sound footing.

andis-1 Aug 08, 2006, 06:17 AM You'll have lot of work to do if you plan to kill nurmafer. It won't be that easy... :p
Thlayli Aug 08, 2006, 07:13 AM Ooo. Interesting.
I'm back!
Kozmos Aug 08, 2006, 07:24 AM Oh and Iggy the following update being a longer IT, can we presume our income is doubled and that we can say invest points into a project instead of the regular one point.
Thlayli Aug 08, 2006, 07:49 AM From: New Veritas
To: Lengels
As in the past, our nations have no quarrel. New Veritas has always been the protector of the Exodian Ocean,* her fleets unchallenged in strength since the founding. We have taken our revenge on Emor, the nation of traitors, but we have no objection to you destroying it, on the condition that your vessels not trespass on Valin seas. We also wish to offer you an accord of peace, (NAP) for the duration of one hundred seasons, or twenty-five years as you would put it. (one update)
In addition, the unjust Emorian protectorate on Verta is broken as well. We view these lands to be holy, and would request your leave to recommence pilgrimages to the island of Veritas. You are the undisputed masters of the land, Valins the protectors of the seas. We can profit far more in alliance than in opposition. And peace between the Lengels and the League is essential to the completion of your goals.
May Order enthrone you,
A.P.N.V.
From: New Veritas
To: Verta
We request your leave to send pilgrims to Veritas. In addition, we invite you to join New Veritas, Exilsium, and Norvalin in the League of Valins. There should be no interference with your obligations to the Lengels.
From: New Veritas
To: Norvalin, Arcadia, Exilsium
Thank you for the assistance.
From: New Veritas
To: Guangfei
We officially request the opening of Guangfei's borders to our merchants. We ensure a fair exchange of goods, as long as peace may reign between us. Guangfei's merchants and benevolent (non-religious) monks are also welcome in our lands, if you agree to our proposal. With a war to your north, and savages to your south, we are sure that you might find peace and prosperity with us acceptable.
May Light surround you,
A.P.N.V.
*Iggy, the Exodian Ocean the name I'm putting forward for the ocean. I think it should be accepted, since Valin states sail it mostly, and the name reflects the original Summa doctrines declaring that the One sent the original Veritasans across the sea from Paradise.
alex994 Aug 08, 2006, 08:30 AM You'll have lot of work to do if you plan to kill nurmafer. It won't be that easy... :p
Nurmafer is on the verge of collaspe you know :p Sure, they may stay on that island fortress but it's just a matter of time.
@thlayli, weren't you supposed to be back around August 22?
Contempt Aug 08, 2006, 09:29 AM With respect, Contempt, this is beginning to get on my nerves. Can you please stop repeating that you always abide by your word? Mind, its not like I don't believe you, its just too cliched. :p
That's what makes it fun when I abide by my word, but still manage to work around it ;)

We wish to send people to observe your armies in the north, may we?
Thlayli Aug 08, 2006, 09:36 AM @thlayli, weren't you supposed to be back around August 22?[/QUOTE]
Nope. ;) August 8th, on schedule. Repondez, s'il vous plait?
andis-1 Aug 08, 2006, 10:34 AM Nurmafer is on the verge of collaspe you know :p Sure, they may stay on that island fortress but it's just a matter of time.
Hah, Nurmafer still has plenty of her sentinels left, more than enough to destroy swade and myocaca ;)
conehead234 Aug 08, 2006, 10:42 AM From the treeless landscape, they appeared like ghosts and struck like demons - Unknown
The frontier was a desolate place, more southern than where the authority of the King extended, it was a land of thieves and barbarians. Newly conquered tribes lived as they always have, an occasional patrol of Trinlin soldiers passed by, but mostly it was lawless. Then it wasn’t a surprise when news of the great invasion reached Trinlin. The barbarians had crossed the river, the River Iclied in the south. And control was fast lost over the southern provinces.
Horrific stories began to trickle to the north.
‘They burned by village, and killed my family’
‘Well I had worse, I barely made it out of their with one arm’
‘They were horrible, slowly skinning my neighbors.’
Refuges began to flood from the frontier to the north. The populace was horrified, and the high priests branded the barbarians ‘Hiov’, the name of the devil of the Trinlin faith.
King Pavilian saw that he had to take action, in his bursts of expansion and rumors of civilized nations in the north, he had neglected the south. Now the barbarians pushed on, with their bear skin clothes and primitive weapons. Pavilian ordered the army mobilized and sent to the south, it was time to put the barbarians back in their place.
General Yovit Ov Lov answered the call, he began to gather his strength in Orvit…

those sentinels suck. With less than a thousand i can kill 10000 sentinels, not to mention i have the far superior economy than nurmafer, the only reason they have gotten this far is because i was at camp for 2 weeks and couldn't do anything about the current situation.
Kozmos Aug 08, 2006, 11:20 AM Well I'll call that ocean Karibi.
Also
Oh and Iggy the following update being a longer IT, can we presume our income is doubled and that we can say invest points into a project instead of the regular one point.
Lord_Iggy Aug 08, 2006, 11:32 AM It's still an IT. The length of the turn makes no gameplay difference, other than more leaders dying of old age and maybe more technological development.
Kozmos Aug 08, 2006, 11:49 AM So basically we can assume that the first half of the IT people will work as usual and then do nothing at all for the other half.
Logic tells me this is highly impossible. Logic is such a liar.

Thlayli Aug 08, 2006, 12:19 PM The Charter of the League of Valins
The Valin League is composed of the nations of New Veritas, Exilsium, Norvalin, and Verta.
Each member of the Valin League is obligated to obey the following laws:
1) The nations that compose the Valin League must be Republics, follow the Church of the One in a non-heretical form, and have Valin origin. Any new nations admitted to the League must be approved by all current members.
2) The member nations of the Valin League have a permanent Pact of Mutual Protection with each other, and this Pact has preeminence over all other alliances or treaties, though the League will not interfere with said treaties unless any member nation is threatened.
3) All League nations are obligated to come to the aid of their own if one member is attacked. In order to wage an offensive war as a whole, the League nations must agree unanimously. Member nations are free to wage war separately.
Approved by: New Veritas
Awaiting Approval: Exilsium, Norvalin, Verta
Imago Aug 08, 2006, 12:24 PM The Charter of the League of Valins is approved by Norvalin.
Lord_Iggy Aug 08, 2006, 12:52 PM @Cleric- It's the way the NES has run in the past. Ignore it.
Verta signs the Charter.

Kal'thzar Aug 08, 2006, 12:56 PM The UKKK is controlled by Myself. And No, as I am allied to the Lengels, I am at war with you.
Kozmos Aug 08, 2006, 01:06 PM Exilsium approves points 2 and 3, but on the matter of how it's religion and form of government is to be practiced is for Exilsium to decide. We believe the old ways of the Church has caused this second punishment to happen on us, thus we reserve the right to implement changes in any way we see fit. Make no mistake we shall always worship the One, though new philosophies and practices might arise.
alex994 Aug 08, 2006, 01:11 PM To New Veritas

Your offer is agreeable, though we must ask that no missionaries of your God be sent into Guangfei territory as one. May the Heavens shine upon us.

From Guangfei
Our apologies, but the north is dangerous. Evil Nurmaferi women and children raid and are merciless. For the safety of your own representatives, we must decline. :(

We hope that the League as a whole will examine new philosophies and determine what is and is not heretical. We know the troubles that occur when the Church is fractured. If you can concede that point, we will have an agreement.
~Darkening~ Aug 09, 2006, 10:52 AM Eh. Since just about every mod whose NES that I'm in is in here, I'll just post in here. I'll be gone from late today until either late sunday or early monday.
@Thlayli: Curious, what exactly has been deemed "heritical" ?

1889 Aug 09, 2006, 11:10 AM From Tellium
To Norvalin, Exilsium, New Veritas and Verta.
Veritas’ legacy is too grand to be forgotten, a legacy that is as much a part of Tellium’s past as yours. Do not dismantle our common history, rather honor Pacian’s dream of a truly Valin League. We are ready to make the same commitment to all of you that Exilsium has made and hope that New Veritas, Exilsium, Norvalin, and Verta will reciprocate that commitment.
May light guide your faith
OOC: I'm writing Luculis' death right now.

We do not concur with this. The way we worship the One is up to us to decide. Really though, we care for our Valin brethern and aid them if need be. We will honor points 2 and 3, even if we are not accepted into the League.
Thlayli Aug 09, 2006, 02:45 PM Exilsium practices no heresy at present, and also is ruled by a Republic. We see no reason not to welcome it into the League.
@Darkening: Pirian Oneism isn't deemed heretical, but the Path of God is.
~Darkening~ Aug 09, 2006, 03:00 PM @Darkening: Pirian Oneism isn't deemed heretical, but the Path of God is.
I assumed that but wanted to make sure.
Kentharu Aug 09, 2006, 03:03 PM silver can you give me a name that is common for Shalamari people. As well as the city that your people will be in, do you want it to be a specific name?
Lord_Iggy Aug 09, 2006, 03:07 PM He's gone. The Shalamari are still the Shalamari, the city... something crystalist.
Imago Aug 09, 2006, 04:22 PM Northern Strategy
“Do legends die, Falin?”
That question brought a great many things into perspective. Ten months had passed since the death of Blackbeard, and Falin had come to Unias, at the request of Senator Haratus.
At the moment of that question, they were inside the halls of the Senate building, pacing in the direction of Haratus’ apartments.
“Why do you ask such a question, my lord?” Falin said.
“Because the answer is yes.” Haratus was a Norvalin with dark skin, and more than a bit of Zibon blood. In the world of Old Veritas, he never would have been elected Senator. In Norvalin, people valued talent over prejudice.
“Forgive me, my lord, but I am still confused.”
But Haratus seemed to be on a different plane of existence entirely. “Veritas was a legend,” he said. “Eldrania was a legend. Now both are dead, and the second, doubtless you have never heard of. What is to prevent Norvalin from dying, as well?”
This, Falin had an answer to. “The strength of our people, of course.”
“I am one with little faith, Falin,” said Haratus. “Our people have come far, from humble origins. Our soldiers sailed to Emor, and stood side by side with the others of the Valin League, as the councils of Emor were executed for their treason. Norvalin spearheaded the effort that created the Charter of the League of Valins. But we are not impregnable. We can still fall.”
“Every man, woman, and child in Norvalin would die before our nation took its last breath,” said Falin, with confidence.
“You have the faith of a hero,” replied Haratus. “The faith of a hero from a myth.” Haratus stopped at a door, opened it, and beckoned Falin to come inside. They sat down on opposite ends of a table. Placed on that table was a board of Strategy, ready for the first turn to be played.
“Am I wrong to trust the people?” asked Falin.
“Not necessarily,” said Haratus. “But you must remember, not everyone is as dedicated or as capable as you. Or me, for that matter. I have called you to the capital because you are our greatest warrior, and you must train the next generation of Norvalin soldiers.”
“I accept that honor with great pleasure, sir,” said Falin.
“Good,” said Haratus. “Now, begin this game of Strategy with me. Take the first turn, as we continue to talk.”
Falin made the first move, carefully, as he only barely remembered how to play the game. The pieces looked ancient, as if they would become dust at a single touch. And yet, they did not.
His opening move was to form his spearmen into a more defensive position.
“Who leads Norvalin?” asked Haratus, advancing with his swordsmen, at Falin’s lines.
“The Senate, of course,” said Falin. He repositioned his archers behind his spearmen, leaving his swordsmen alone.
“Within the Senate, who leads?” Haratus attacked with the swordsmen, rolling hexus, six sided die. Two of Falin’s spearmen were killed.
“Lord Taquin is the Chosen of the Senate.” Falin rushed his horsemen to the front lines, unsure how the three swordsmen on Haratus’ side were making such a dent in his defenses.
“If we were a normal nation, the Senate and the Chosen would be enough to lead us,” said Haratus. “But who am I?” The hexus smiled upon his swordsmen once more, and three of Falin’s archers fell before they could do anything.
“You are a respected member of the Assemblium Popularium,” said Falin. “You are a senior member of the Senate.” His horsemen charged Haratus’ swordsmen, but the hexus failed Falin. As a part of their own attack, two horsemen died.
Falin’s forces were being decimated by three swordsmen. Haratus had moved no other of his pieces. Falin was reminded about how he had charged twenty Redcloaks, and, against the odds, been victorious.
“I am also a member of the Secret Ones,” said Haratus. “As Norvalin becomes greater, the Secret Ones prepare for a catastrophe, and wait. I am the organization’s leader.” His swordsmen killed more of Falin’s troops.
Falin had heard rumors of the group, and said as much.
“In other countries, having a backup, hidden leadership would be a revolution waiting to happen,” said Haratus. “Here, in Norvalin, the Secret Ones are the most loyal to Norvalin ideals. We were created in a secret part of the Norvalin Charter. We are the safeguard against a Third Fall.”
Falin and Haratus played another pair of turns, and then, Falin’s Lord was captured.
“How did you win so quickly?” asked Falin. “How did every roll of the hexus turn out in your favor?”
“I stand behind the scenes,” said Haratus. “Norvalin cannot fall again.”
“What?” asked Falin.
“I am the mind who directs your steel,” said Haratus. “I weighted the die.”
