What are the best two player board games (in your opinion)?

Obviously chess is great but when you're years ahead (or behind) in skill there isn't much point (unless you have, or are, a very eager pupil).

Checkers or Chinese checkers perhaps? :p

Snakes and Ladders. Some spy game thing I have, can't remember the name.

Go to Boardgamegeek.com for lots of ideas. For two players, I like Memoir '44 a lot.

I did. They have a good forum, just thought I'd ask here too though, just for variety. Someone else recommended '44 also, I will check it! :)

Checkers, Chess, and Axis and Allies (I usually only play 2 players.)

What kind of game are you looking for? If it's any 2-player game, there's hundreds to choose from.

A fun one(s). Easy to learn, complicated to master, that type. :)

One with a small but significant amount of luck involved (so I don't crush my foes each time :D).

A friend of mine has a lot of cardgames for 2 as well, many related to strategy, maths and memory. The names of those cardgames escape me at the moment tho.

My friend's game Twilight Struggle is also very good, but a bit deeper. (It also just won two wargaming awards).

I think backgammon is nicer than chess.

Stratego for two player.

Risk for multi-player (more than 2).

I'll also throw down a vote for Backgammon. Alot of dynamic strategy involved in backgammon which depends on the roll of the dice.

Chess, if you can find a human to play.

Backgammon can't be beat if you want lotsa luck involved, but cribbage might be your thing too. I learned it in less half an hour, but there is a lot that goes into it (and it can be played teams or two player).

And what about Ker-plunk? It's been forever since I played that, but it was always good for 15 minutes of distraction.

Chinese Checkers is nice. Risk and Scotland Yard/Clue are good if you've got 3 or more people, too.

There's also a great card game called Durak which is a lot of fun.

Not exactly a board game, but Yahtzee is fun.

Yahtzee can get pretty intense with friends. Let's just say that the broken lamp wasn't my fault. :mischief:

I have not played it much, and not for several years, I assume I still have it, probably sitting in a box in my closet. It's a good game.

My wife and I didn't have a TV for about six months at one point. We played a lot of Yahtzee. She even went out and bought her own dice for it. If you haven't, try playing the entire score sheet (6 games) all at once. IOW, treat all six games as one.

Oye, Twilight Stuggle is a great game (if you happen to be interested in the Cold War).
