Just a quick hello to everyone. As I have taken over someone game. I thought we could have a communal thread for general stuff.

Has there been any talk of a session were we all play?

Is everyone else having problems with civstats I am assuming.

Cheers

The official thread will always contain news (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=4362696&postcount=29) if the civstats server is down. Although after this situation is resolved, there should't be any more downtime.

I got so busy yesterday I had actually forgotten about this game. :crazyeye:

I wasn't on the Turn Notifier yet as I hadn't entered my email into the details, so didn't get the notifier reminder about the turn. Luckily I had things on pre-programming, so didn't really miss a beat by missing that last turn. :D

Today TELawrence civilisation stop to exits.
After I took his unprotected worker with my choking warrior he decide to cyicide his only warrior on my warrior. My warrior won but left with 0.2 str.
I was forced to raise city, as 2 Taok near by quecha and a german warrior garanty that I will loose it if I try to keep it. Worker was disbanded 2, as 2 quexhas were preventing it from living.

Total profit for my civ = 47GC for taking city and a lot fo space for other civ on our continent to expand.

(no 'trying to connect to xyz message'). But I am sure that you have retried several times? What time GMT did you try?

The only thing that I can determine is that I use NoIP and it was quite busy changing IPs at a more than usual rate, but this normally only takes a few seconds to reconfigure itself.

portuga hasn't logged in for the past 3 turns. Anyone know what's up? Another turn or two like this and we may have to have him booted to AI. Otherwise his Civ will just sit stagnant and be an easy conquest for whoever is lucky enough to be closest to him.

Fosse
Aug 15, 2006, 12:46 PM
He is on vacation. I run one of the games he is in, and he emailed saying he was queuing up turns and such. I can't imagine he would do that for mine alone.

lplayer
Aug 16, 2006, 03:59 AM
On the 11th Portuga advised me that he was away for a week, so this was expected.

A nice 'feature' for Pitboss would be for Players to be able to 'Pass' on their turn and use automated orders (as happens on the turn time expires) if all others player have completed their turns.

I think from now on, if someone is going to be away for a few week they need to either find someone to play their turns or let the AI play the turns during that time.

You are going to need to go back to an older Save. You don't have enough time left on the timer for most of us to get in before the time runs out. I personally won't be home tonight until around midnight EST (05:00 BST). So I need almost 9 hours to be left on the timer. If the game had been up this morning before I left for work, I'd have been able to get the turn done.

My proposal is to take control of Japan and kill off the offending surviving unit and kill it, allowing Lee to take his city.

Aug 19, 2006, 10:01 AM
Well I know in other games when there has been a server crash, or pitboss problem, or other network problem when a previous reload has had to be done and things changed then that's just how it happens. Technical difficulties will occasionally change the outcome if a reload has to be done.
Personally, I actually don't truly care if you guys decide to have Snotty "get control" and then killing the offending unit off. But I also sorta feel that things should just play out in this new alternate reality that was created because of the required reload.

Snotty
Aug 19, 2006, 10:38 AM
Unfortunately I threw away the troops trying to take the city again, so I cant take the city quickly.

I can understand if the other players dont want to reload. I wouldnt have even mentioned it except losing an extra city at this stage of the game obviously makes a huge difference to my game. That and my accomplishment is recorded unequivocally in big red letters on civstats so its not like Im trying to pull a fast one.

Mutineer
Aug 20, 2006, 06:55 PM
You are not suppous to have the city on the first place.
This was in active player city and should be raised to provide a fair play for all other players.

Snotty
Aug 21, 2006, 12:50 AM
Why am I not supposed to have the city?

we should have put city elimination on if razing was the rule. I made an early aggresive gambit with my aggresive civ, so my strategy + a bit of luck gives me an advantage. Thats whats civs about :)

Mutineer

Because no one was playing civ you attacked for 2 weeks, not the fact that you attacked.
If I remember correctly it was you who was voiting to wait longer to replace players. That is not sportsmen like behavior, that has no place in fair game.

From Monday I will be on holidays til wednesday 6. september, i cant play my civ in this time horizon. If you want, you can switch my civ to AI from next tuesday, but i would like to continue playing after i return home.

If it is good enough for you,i can queue my builds and moves for that time.

HitAnyKey
Aug 25, 2006, 08:48 AM
You can actually set it to AI yourself.

All you would need to do is Queue up a bunch of stuff and then "Retire". That will set it to AI. Then when you return, you just log back in and reclaim your Civ.

I'm not positive that the AI will keep all your queued items, but if you're going to be away for that length of time with the civ not being set to AI as then it would cause the turns to always run to the end of the timer and frustrate the rest of us. :)

Ok, so I'm attempting to take over for IglooDude (who PMed me the passwords and contact IP/address), but thus far I'm unable to connect to the host - just tried now 1am ET. Timed out. The normal reset does not cure.

I have 8M BT broadband, via WAG54GX2 Router, Dell 8200 Wireless.

All firewalls checked (I tested with all off)
Connection is good

All ports set correct anredirecting to local IP

Using NOIP, but test with direct IP.

The result is the same: Pitboss will not answer.

The computer uis used for nothing else bu pitboss aand nothing appears to have changed. So soory server is down. I spent the last hour trying to fixand must go to work now, and will try again. I will leave set up in case it decides to answer.

I have note a huge amount of unexplained traffic through my router overnight and need to investigate that.....

I think you problem does not come from pitboss itself, but from your connection.

In my expirience many ISP tand to drop connection if there is no trafic on it, especially at nigth.

To figth it people useally use rundom internat access program to keep connection alive.

OK The last thing I troed resolved the situation. I restored my router settings from a backup and all worked well. So something / someone changed a router setting that prevented it from passing the port 2056 UDP to 192.168.1.100. Anyway the restore seems to have fixed, and so we may continue....

OK I will find and install a 'maintain connection; program- but therouter log does not show any disconnection. As you see the Uploader has no problem uploading- its just the incomming that has problems. I will try anything to resolve as this game is starting to become interesting.

On another subject. Is it deemed 'fair' to communicate outside the game. ie If I hav eno contactact with a player in within Civ, are excannges of maps and other info (eg via email) deemed acceptable?

What happening:

Your computer connected to your ISP. You ISP assigned it IP adress.
Now, ISP monitor connection and if there no trafic he will drop you IP adress from his roputer. YOu ARE STILL CONNECTED TO YOUR ISP and never notice the difference. When you computer want to access net again ISP router simple assign it new IP adress and from your side it looks like connection allways was there.
But all of us have to wait why your new IP adress propogate try Net, and when it finally does you migth change your IP address again.
So, from our point of view your computer simple drop connection.

Simple program that rundomly access some web site every few minutes prevent your ISP from droping your current IP adress, keeping it constant and removing all this problems.

From your computer you will never notice the difference, exept if you write a little program that save your current IP adress every hour.

NOIP (recommended by FOSSE I think) works well and should detect this chanhe of IP normally within a few seconds of change. NOIP has connection to the NOIP server at notifies the NOPIP server of the change of IP- however despite this connection- which accordong to the NOIP log is consistent- our incomming connection problems persist.

The NOIP logs the IP change and on average the IP changes 3 times a day - less ever since 'maintain connection' is set.

Yeah, I had kind of noticed that. It seemed a bit odd to me when he was able to capture that worker that I could see on your border unprotected, when normally you would have had more than enough time to pull him back and out of danger.

I didn't even know he had troops moving into your territory. I saw that one Archer, but I thought it had actually returned home after snagging that worker. I gather you didn't have more than just a single warrior in your capital....that was probably the primary mistake with you being at war with someone.

I think you misread the Civstats log, not that it makes much of a difference. He had actually logged in every turn except for the last 2 turns, and one about 4 turns before that. So he certainly had enough time to make his defenses such that you couldn't just waltz in and capture his city.

He missed the turn on the 3rd, but played on the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Then missed again on the 7th/8th, and then was eliminated on the 9th.

Problem appears to be with my Broadband line and not my hardware or Software. When working the normal fast connection (8M) is degraded to about 2M. at times. I will complain to BT....

I managed to get in this morning before work. Finally!

And the error that g_storrow mentioned is similar to something I saw a couple of nights ago. I started to get in, then it hung up, and when I tried to reconnect later it kept timing out. :P

But let the fun continue! ;)

I had a simular experience some time ago in another game... posted about it here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=181842), post back if it looks anything like that....

Regarding Fosse. I will set him to AI, as he has missed 5 moves, and last moved on 19th. He is not playing his other games either so is delayed somewhere. Even his own server appears to be down at the moment. He is welcome to take back fro AI should he wish.

You shouldn't have done that. He is back today and would have been logging in this coming turn. Now the AI has done his turn for him and there is something that he needs to do as the AI is going to screw it up (I know from discussions with him).

Please reload the turn and turn him back to Human. I guarantee he'll be logging in this turn.

I am back, exactly as I stated I would be. The AI did bork my move, but not horribly.

I reported that I would be absent for those several days, and the missed turn policies on these games addresses turns missed without notice or explanation. I will travel again in the future, for my job, and hope that I will not be booted again.

To minimize the number of subs I have to get (it is a huge hassle for communications and I play Civ for fun, not work), I ask people to sub for me only in games that are in a delicate situation or have a very quick turn rate. This game fits neither of those categories at the moment.

While I was logged in the game seems to have gone done and it still shows me as logged in ??

Why has everybody decided to pick on me. Is it kill Spike week?

You were just unlucky enough to take up the Civ I was planning on attacking way long ago...back when it was AI.

And that only got delayed when Fosse attacked me. And after a couple rounds of back and forth, that cleared up so I could return to my original path. That path being right through you. :D

Hmm... I'm wondering what to do about this game. I can't dedicate the time to trying to get in repeatedly - while my other games start smooth. If there was anyone interested in continuing the fun state of my game, I'd work with them for a smooth transition.

If you're sure about this, I'd give it a try...
You can e-mail me the details.

Well, I got in this morning. Maybe I should always try mornings... I seem to have better luck than midnight.

Johnhs - send me a PM and I can start filling you in on the situation.
