View Full Version : Warlords
davbenbak Aug 10, 2006, 08:39 AM Just wanted to start a Warlords thread. I don't know how many of the regular TAM crowd has played the Warlords expansion yet but hopefully soon there will be enough of a critical mass to make a compatible version for TAM necessary. Also, by having a thread I (and everyone else who subscribes to this thread) will have a good way to keep track of any progress on this through emails when the thread is updated.
Laurino Aug 10, 2006, 10:06 AM As for myself, I bought Warlords, and already started working in this direction for the graphics.
I already got a couple of units done (mainly boats).
And the new HUDs will look quite cool IMO.
Of course all these will also be included in the plain Civ4 version, apart from models derived from Warlord specific units (ie: Trireme)...
I'm only waiting for Sqype and Keith to make a Warlord compatible TAM;)
NickSD Aug 12, 2006, 03:51 AM I'm very much anticipating TAM: Warlords edition! when will it be out? :D
thamis Aug 13, 2006, 05:22 AM We actually don't know yet. We're in the process of discussing the new features that we will use, like unique buildings, right now.
Chode Aug 13, 2006, 02:27 PM When I was playing on the huge map, I actually thought to myself "Man, I wish I could capitulate that empire." The rest of the cities were in crappy locations, ones that I didn't want to commit soldiers to capturing. Vassal states would be a nice inclusion, maybe you could modify it to make it a little more appealing than how it is in Warlords.
davbenbak Sep 11, 2006, 05:57 AM I've used the capitulate option in the Rise of Rome mod that comes with Warlords and it was very usefull. Also reflect the use of auxillary troops when your vassels join you at times of war.
Hypnotoad Sep 11, 2006, 12:27 PM This is a good example of how the mod community is good for Civ 4. I probably won't bother to buy the expansion pack until TAM: Warlords comes out. I'm interested in it on its own, but I only have so much money...
davbenbak Sep 16, 2006, 08:36 PM I got warlords for $25 at Best Buy which is pretty reasonable concidering what you get. I wish all expansions were like that.
Drtad Sep 23, 2006, 05:22 PM Is there an ETA now Thamis, I cannot wait for the TAM Warlords version!:goodjob:
thamis Sep 25, 2006, 06:10 AM No, sorry, no ETA... :(
Mesix Oct 12, 2006, 10:52 AM I am also waitning for TAM to be made compatable with Warlords. The map from the Peloponnesian War would make a nice scenario map for TAM that concentrates on Greece and Asia Minor.
Laurino Oct 12, 2006, 11:22 AM I'm finish with the XML conversion of TAM to Warlords. I can't give you an estimated release time, but seeing that it's going waaayyy faster than I first expected, let's say that I'll have it for you guys probably during next week;).
Drtad Oct 12, 2006, 05:27 PM Wow you already finished with the XML? I won't get to help now... But I do have plenty of ideas to fix up the civics and the leader traits, and once the Warlords version is posted I will get to work on my scenarios.
SrWilliam Oct 12, 2006, 08:10 PM Other then the Great Wall, I can't see too much Warlords content that would not be real cool in TAM.
thamis Oct 13, 2006, 06:27 AM Even the great wall... Hardian's Wall!
armathas Oct 15, 2006, 04:02 PM  Gonna be great I am sure, been playing TAM since Civ 3...I always wanted some Roman Toadies..I mean vassals:crazyeye:
cbdude Oct 25, 2006, 01:09 AM anyone still out there I can't wait for this one hopefully it's not dead.
Laurino Oct 25, 2006, 01:16 AM Of course we're still here;) There's still a lot of programming work to do before TAM Warlords is finished. Don't despair, it will come out asap.
ohcrapitsnico Oct 25, 2006, 04:13 PM I'm assuming ubs won't be in this first version but the next. Another big question on my mind, is will you be using warlord graphics? For example theres a pretty kickass siege tower with warlords that looks a bit moe polished than the current one.
Laurino Oct 25, 2006, 04:29 PM As soon as ČI have TAM Warlords ready, I'll go trough the units and buildings and use the best looking graphics possible. And yes, I saw these siege towers, they'll be in;)
davbenbak Oct 26, 2006, 06:47 AM Warlord patch should be out pretty soon to address grid crash on huge maps (my favorite for playing TAM) and some Vassal issues. There is a description of all the changes on the home page for all those, like me, who skip it and go straight to the forums.
Morfydd Dec 27, 2006, 02:27 PM any updates in this area?
Laurino Dec 27, 2006, 09:47 PM I started working with Chazcon on TAM Warlords, but since all the work that was done has to be done again, it could take some time. I'll release TAM v2.0 before Warlords, hopefully in January. This should be the last Vanilla version.
Spearthrower Jan 01, 2007, 09:37 AM Great to hear that this is still being worked on - I really thought it had fallen by the wayside!!
I am guessing from your words that a Warlords version is not for the forseeable future?
Laurino Jan 02, 2007, 11:29 AM Well I should have 2.0 finished by the end of january hopefully... for Warlords, yes it could take some time.
davbenbak Jan 10, 2007, 07:31 AM thanks for the update
Dalmuti Jan 29, 2007, 11:43 AM I wanted to thank you guys for making a MAC version of Vanilla TAM and am hoping you will do the same for your Warlords version as well. Also Laurino mentioned he was working on a Vanilla 1.98 TAM with all the graphics updates ect. Is there going to be a MAC version of that as well, at least untill a Warlords version is done?
Thanks again from all of us MAC guys
Laurino Jan 29, 2007, 06:01 PM Hopefully, there will be one, I'll check it out.
Jet Feb 07, 2007, 03:57 PM I recently read (it was in a post by Kael that I think was recent) that you can't compile the SDK on Macs.
saint1979 Feb 21, 2007, 09:02 AM You guys needs any beta testers?
I'm availible 24/7 for the next 2 weeks.
Hellspark Mar 14, 2007, 09:59 AM Is the addition of the Plot List Enhancement buttons like ones from 12Monkeys something that could be added to TAM. I really like TAM and those buttons. I know, I know - I admit it, I'm a warmonger.
davbenbak Apr 28, 2007, 07:10 AM Will the Warlords version be done by July? I'll be playing the Beyond The Sword expansion by then.
Sisonpyh May 02, 2007, 09:20 PM Really dissappointed TAM seemed to die an abrupt death. It had so much potential.
What happened? I know Thamis left for greater things, but did he take the source code with him or something?
thamis May 03, 2007, 02:25 AM No, right now Laurino has all the code for version 1.98. I've seen an early version of it, it's great, and it's been tested, but somehow Laurino has disappeared right now.
The Last Conformist May 06, 2007, 08:02 AM As it happens, I started up a new game of the pre-release 1.98 only yesterday. It's not perfect, but quite playable. :)
thamis May 07, 2007, 09:21 AM Can you email me please. I'd like to finish off 1.98 myself, as Laurino has kind of disppeared... I'll give you an FTP login to post it to. Thanks.
Whitefire May 07, 2007, 09:28 AM Oooh, can I be in line to test it? I have a group of friends that likes to MP with the TAM mod. We could run it through the paces quick.
PeteT May 08, 2007, 05:23 AM Thamis, I think you might make more progress with this mod if you made the changed source code publically accessible. That way (instead of having someone sitting on it, and no-one else knows what's happening) someone ( ;) ) might have a look at it and help you develop it.
thamis May 08, 2007, 05:36 AM Problem is, I haven't got the files... Laurino does.
PeteT May 08, 2007, 05:57 AM Well, when you get them ...
If they exist, that is. From time to time I check out this forum but have yet to see anyone taking any credit for doing something to the source code. Until someone comes up with some changed source code, I think one has to be sceptical about what's been done.
The Last Conformist May 09, 2007, 03:50 AM Can you email me please. I'd like to finish off 1.98 myself, as Laurino has kind of disppeared... I'll give you an FTP login to post it to. Thanks.
PM me your email, please. :)
Blake4000 May 11, 2007, 12:30 PM oh dear, has this mod died?! I hope not!
Sword Dancer May 13, 2007, 12:02 AM Well, I come back to this forum on the off-chance that there's been some progress, and find maybe 7-8 posts over a 3-4 month period.
It's deader than Python's Parrot.
much2much May 13, 2007, 02:44 AM Is the addition of the Plot List Enhancement buttons like ones from 12Monkeys something that could be added to TAM. I really like TAM and those buttons. I know, I know - I admit it, I'm a
warmonger.
I request that this NOT be done, or done with an option to turn it on or off. Maybe a separate download? There is a problem attributed to PLE that afflicts me and many others where mouseovered unit information doesn't go away which is extremely irritating as it totally obscures combat odds when you mouseover target units.
Seidrik_The_Gray May 22, 2007, 11:31 AM @much2much
I have the same problem with the Total Realism Mod.
Whitefire Jun 03, 2007, 03:00 PM As it happens, I started up a new game of the pre-release 1.98 only yesterday. It's not perfect, but quite playable. :)
Can you email me please. I'd like to finish off 1.98 myself, as Laurino has kind of disppeared... I'll give you an FTP login to post it to. Thanks.
Any word on the Warlords version?
Laurino Jun 04, 2007, 09:00 AM I don't intend to make a Warlords version. 1.98 is 90% done, civics have been redesigned, new improvements added, and all graphics will be TAM-specific. Ambrox's leaderheads and patch are of course included in this version. The only thing left before it's ready are text corrections, to eliminate all these unlinked TAGs. And last, but no least, the Gamefont file is now fully working, so no more text size bugs, or city icon misplacement. Graywarden and me have tested this build intensively, and we will release it this week.
After 1.98, work will start on TAM Beyond the Sword.
Chode Jun 06, 2007, 04:17 AM I've given up on this mod, its dead. It was great while it lasted.
davbenbak Jun 07, 2007, 05:47 AM @Laurino
Hey, no complaints here! Seeing as how I started this thread to keep updated, I appreciate your honesty and now I have my answer. Thanks for all your hard work so far. Can't beleive you guys weren't part of the BTS team anyways. Guess I'll start a BTS thread now though I didn't see that any of the new changes would effect TAM much as far as new leaders or units. If you have any insights or inside information please feel free to post it on that thread.
Laurino Jun 07, 2007, 08:08 AM Nice idea! Me and Graywarden have already done some brainstorming on BTS, havingb a thread for it with people's idea would be nice! The SDK and Python will be way more used in BTS than Vanilla, since we will work it out from scratch (well code-wise...). The new BTS features can certainly be modified to fit in TAM, but also a lot of new concept we want to include, now that we can use the SDK again, may it be Hidden Nationalities, a more functionnal Smithy, or production chains.
Have a nice day!
ambrox62 Jun 08, 2007, 12:59 AM Ambrox's leaderheads and patch are of course included in this version.
Hi Laurino,
I'm happy to read about a new TAM 1.98 release :)
Yesterday I uploaded a new and better animated LHs version. If you need a beta-tester for Pedia TAGs, send me via PM a link to download, otherwise I'll wait the official release ;)
