After working on this project for 12 months, Dale has released the highly anticipated v1.0 of his Combat Mod! This ambitious mod attempts to improve combats in Civilization IV by adding four new features: Ranged Field Bombardment, Missiles, MAD System (Mutually Assured Destruction), and Combined Arms Stack Attack.
The Ranged Field Bombardment feature returns bombarding units to a defensive unit with the return of field/ocean/coastal bombardment. Further, bombarding units can bombard units, improvements and cities. With the ranged ability these units can now bombard a number of tiles away.
The Missiles feature allows the addition of missile units that will explode on combat. With this mod you are able to build cruise missiles and tactical nukes.
The MAD System allows you to target your nukes at your opponents' cities during peace time. If an enemy launches a nuke at you, your nukes targetted at that civ's cities will trigger, thus automatically launching before you turn. The MAD system also provides valuable information on incoming targets from the enemy.
The Combined Arms Stack Attack feature is the biggest component of the mod and adds true combined arms battles. Your frontline troops will receive automatically air support, artillery support and ranged support. Flankers will automatically attempt to out flank the enemy to strike at their backlines. Fighters on carriers will automatically intercept enemy fighters, defending the fleet and striking at the enemy ships. Artillery will automatically bombard the enemy from the safety of their backlines, while melee troops take the brunt of the fight. Counter-battery fire will occur between archers and bombards. Cavalry will ride around the enemy frontline to harass their catapults.
