I,ve been playing warlords for few here on monarch with 24 civ earth and so far its been a damn nightmare Since i play the States i got breeding space the develop quite fast but for some reason even if i built some wonders im not even getting Close to technological advancement or great scientist im supose to.:D culture i seem to lead but in the tech race i get hammered by contry's like osaka (india) that has like 4 main city's only. Now is there a way to crap ot more scientist, great merchants out? There got to be a catch hell i turn on the icon great people on every city i got but so far i havent had nearly as much as these other contry wich quite frankly discourages the hell outa me:sad: . Sooo any help for the peeps out there would be helpfull.:D
Vonjan Aug 16, 2006, 06:33 PM Ok so i dint get the Awnser i was looking for But i may have found out why the other civs got more tech in the long run..
ya so anyway since they like going at each other troat they pull alliance and worse yet they vasal themself or capitulate wich in terms give em all the tech they need not to mention share research time just like in multiplayer mode. Not very fair if you ask me but eh i,ll need to find a solution around that probleme.now i still have to figure out why my greatmerchant rate and scientist, warlords aint coing out.:P
OceansEleven Aug 17, 2006, 12:10 AM If your on Monarch, that already brings you into a bad tech lead. Build cottages, scientists. I'd go for the Rep. Bur. Caste. Merc. and Orgnz. Rel for the most part of the game. You get a free specialist per city with merc, which helps a lot. Rep is + 3 per specialist. You can have unlimited of 3 of the specialists, also helps. Bur is just to help your capital and as well as Orgnz. Rel.

4 posts? Welcome to the forum!
Computer requires fewer beakers than you do at Monarch so you need to optimize tech and commerce. The AI trades tech with each other alot so you have to trade a tech with everyone on one turn to keep yourself caught up.
This may already be what you do, but use the first great scientist you get on an academy in your science city and any extra ones (that you don't have earmarked for a specific tech) you will add to that city instead of spreading them around, since it has the best science multipliers.
Other than that, I can't tell you much that would help, since you are playing at monarch already, which means going over basics won't give you much, things like "don't expand too much before CoL and Currency or you kill your science production" and stuff like that.
cabert Aug 17, 2006, 08:50 AM your problem is trading!
you're all alone, while the others are together.
Go for caravels!
Stolen Rutters Aug 17, 2006, 09:35 AM Oops, forgot about your isolation... cabert is right. Find everyone before they tech-trade themselves to a nice tech lead. You can't trade with civs that already have all your techs. Optics isn't as useful for the old world nations so you don't have to worry about trading away that tech if you can get 10 or more techs for it by trading it to civs on three continents.
Gnarfflinger Aug 17, 2006, 10:53 PM If you like a good fight, take Ropme and spam Praets with City Raider. You'll have Iron right beside your capital if you settle in place and Madrid looks like a Great site for a city...

you have 2 possible people to trade with for a long time (and even so it may take you a bit to find incas). Osaka has 20 trade partyners very quickly. You can bee line to optics and make contact with europe, but its going to be awhile before you find the asian civs,a nd you may not make contact with Russia, Mongolia, etc. till vcery late game.
The only way to prevent this completely is to turn tech trading off (this even makes the Incas playable on monarch).
