It will be about 14 turns before we found our next city, but we need to consider its location already because that will impact on our other plans.

Several people have suggested going for the oracle. Before we seriously plan to do that, we need a city with high production. Do we want this desire to drive our decision on locating city 3? If so, where?

I think we need a hammer location, oracle or not.

:hammers: is needed because we don't have many at the moment, and we will need them for military production.

I agree completely, we need a city with high production.

Well its not very ambitious but we can settle in the jungle right next to the clams just south of our capitol. We can share that cattle and grow the pop quickly then it will have 4 hills to work (12 hammers)

Ploughland will be a very good production city some day too.

Why move south, we can always backfill that later.

Well alright (but it is a good city location :p). How about claiming that Marble in the tundra north of the desert? Not a great spot but probably worth it just for the Marble, that’s worth 75 hammers toward Oracle.

It's an okay spot, and gives us more copper too.

I think we decided to build Oracle next, anyway it will probably be done before we connect that Marble so is this still the city location we are going for?

Epsilon built the Oracle, they must have been going that way from the beginning. Given that has happened, which do we go for in this city placement -- production, population, or commerce?

I don't see any huge production potential. I think the best we can do is 4 hills by settling SW of our capitol. Pigs and clams will provide good growth as well.

maybe near the sheep to the W or the Pigs to the NE

settling near sheep, marble, copper will seal of almost all our borders, so that's good.

Anyone up to putting these locations we're discussing on a map again? I'm getting :crazyeye: .

Why not move city 3 a square south to get the benefits of fresh water and some forests?

The extra food from clams will be more useful than the extra health from fresh water I think. As for the forest; maybe it will spread, but in the meantime those plains tiles are nearly as good.

we'd lose incense and clam.

Good points. Though I thought that we were going to have a city on the peninsula north of city 3 claiming those resources. Then again I'm still having the "found a city everywhere possible" civ3 habit.

You've convinced me that the desert spot is best. :)
