View Full Version : Northern Ireland 3 Spain 2.............
ulsterman88 Sep 06, 2006, 04:55 PM Nobody else probably cares about this but anyway, its the most important day of my life so i'll go on. the Northern Irish football team beat Spain 3-2 at fortress windsor park almost a year after they beat England. By the way David Healy got a hat trick, while Xavi and David Villa got the Spanish goals, but who cares about them.
All hail healy:worship:
Red Door Sep 06, 2006, 04:56 PM I saw this, and I was quite surprised. Spain and Italy have not looked good so far in Qualifying. Perhaps someone should start a thread on Euro 2008 Qualifying in general.
ulsterman88 Sep 06, 2006, 05:03 PM I think Italy are suffering from a world cup hangover, the'yll struggle in qualifying but will get through in the end, (only to be beaten in the final by Northern Ireland)

I think David Villa is the one who scored the penalty against us in the 1/8 final in Germany, but you're right, I don't care about him. ;)
I think Italy are suffering from a world cup hangover
Probably, but I'm also thinking about something else : Italy aren't as good as anyone could think. They have been very good in the WC, until they met France in the final (slightly weaker than France IMVHO). So hey, it's not because Trézéguet missed his penalty shot that Italy will win all her matches in the future, right ? :scan:

Good idea, it's getting hot already. And I'd have a thread that would last for almost 2 years. :D (EDIT : damn you, Hitro boy !!! ;) )
@ the OP : I share your joy. Tonight I myself watched a superb match and was very happy too. :)
Scuffer Sep 06, 2006, 06:12 PM A quite brilliant result!
Berrie Sep 07, 2006, 02:54 AM Wow, splendid result for Northern Ireland!
I don't know David Healy. For which team does he play?
Rhye Sep 07, 2006, 05:01 AM nice result
it's a shame that both Ireland and Northern Ireland have terrible groups

healy plays for Leeds United, he doesn't seem to be able to recreate his international form at club level at the minute though. He's still a world class finisher despite this.
steviejay Sep 07, 2006, 09:58 AM From a fellow Celt, congrats :) who says we can beat the big teams :D
MCdread Sep 12, 2006, 09:12 AM I was in Madrid last week. Only knew of th result by the newspapers' cover pages, but they were in a bit of a shock there...
Takhisis Sep 23, 2006, 10:17 PM I think Italy are suffering from a world cup hangover, the'yll struggle in qualifying but will get through in the end, (only to be beaten in the final by Northern Ireland)Italy didn´t deserve to win, and they won with a combination of foul play and bribery. No trolling intended.

What did you do in the Capital of the Iberian Peninsula? (just kidding)
BTW, we won the BASKETBALL world cup. take that!!!!!! (just kidding too)
From a fellow Celt, congrats :) who says we can beat the big teams :D
:gripe: :gripe: Ask MCdread about Galicia and its Celt heritage. There are Celts in Spain too, you know. :gripe: :gripe: Ever heard about Celta de Vigo? (http://www.celtavigo.net/) What do you think Celta means? A brand of milk? (Sorry, still kidding, the result pissed me off)
Spain always have bad results at the begining of the season. La liga is too long, there were world championships this year and the players must be exhausted. :mischief: and we are running out of excuses.
steviejay Sep 27, 2006, 09:12 AM heh I am a fan of celts throughout the world..... as long as they're not playing Scotland at the time ;)
Urederra Sep 27, 2006, 09:18 AM I's OK. I was kidding.
I read some time ago that the galician (a Spanish region close to Portugal) governor was proud to host the largest pipe (it is called pipe, isn't it?) music players concentration in the world. People behave stupid when they go nationalistic.
Now that I think, galician sounds gaelic to me.
MCdread Sep 27, 2006, 10:20 AM What did you do in the Capital of the Iberian Peninsula? (just kidding)
I live here. :p
As for the regional capital of the center of the Iberian Peninsula, eating tapas, seeing Picasso exhibitions, meeting chicas in "la movida" and trying to figure out what was in the 2/3 of Madrid that were hidden behind construction fences.
BTW, we won the BASKETBALL world cup. take that!!!!!! (just kidding too)
Yep, saw the giant shirts all over the façade in the townhall. In fact all said newspaper covers were spanking the football team by comparing it with the basket one.

I think there has been a genetic study showing that at least the Irish among the Celts of the British Isles were very related with "celtic" inhabitants from the Atlantic coast of northern Portugal to Cantabria.
MCdread Sep 27, 2006, 10:32 AM Now that I think, galician sounds gaelic to me.
Yes, it is a celtic name, from the callaeci (sp?), the celts that lived in the area that is now the North of Portugal, Galicia and parts of León and Asturias at the time the romans came.
Btw, the name Portugal comes from Portucale or Portus Calle, wich is today's Porto. Acording to some authors, Calle was a pre-roman urban center of those Callaeci (as the name implies), therefore, the word Portugal is also half celt.
