i was just wondering what victory conditions people play with, i leave conquest and domination on. this drags the game on longer which i like and stops someone winning just coz the built the UN and things like that.

Dom conquest and time only for the most part.

I leave all of them on. Since the AI is programmed to only aim for Space Race victory deactivating this cripples them badly. I don't really consider a win valid unless the game had a full set of victory conditions enabled, since disabling them helps the human player. Also, while I leave time victory enabled, I don't consider winning by it valid. Hitting 2050 without winning by a different method I consider a loss on time.

I leave them all on. But I usually win by Diplomacy.

Hitting 2050 without winning by a different method I consider a loss on time. I second this, and I wish that victory point allocations more strongly emphasized what year you finished the game as time, or "default" victories will always produce the highest score.

Oops, forgot to add to the topic,
I leave them all on. I kinda prefer cultural victories. Dom/Diplo/Conquest have almost identical approaches and Space race is not far from it. Cultural requires a wholly different strat from, pretty much, the start.

Me too pretty much. I keep it on as a sort of curtain call to let me know the game is over.

I know the AI is programmed to only aim for Space Race... but I just tried my 1st emporer game and I would swear the AI was trying for a Conquest victory... and doing a pretty good job of it too.

Oh, and I leave all the conditions on.

Space Race 60%! What on earth! That seems to me to be the coolest VC there is.

i leave all on for the previously mentioned reasons. i choose my desired victory type when i start and anything else is a loss on the challenge.

I leave them all on, although I do consider winning a time victory to be a failure.

I prefer cultural and I hate space race for the simple fact that AI mostly(I already saw AI aiming for diplomacy as well) only aim for that -.- They really had to make AI aiming for other victories..

Domination Conquest Cultural and Space Race. I don't like winning by voting or just running out of time. Space Race is good when it gets to the last piece and Cultural can often be close as well.

I usually enable everything except Time and Domination as these victory conditions don't seem to me to be trully victorious results.

Default rules here. Everything is ticked. Never bother trying domination or conquest though. Only diplo, space or culture. I`m a peaceful builder.

Conquest only.

I've gotten every victory condition already, so I find conquest only the most interesting. A marathon 18-civ pangaea conquest game against aggressive AI can get a little crazy. :nuke: :goodjob: :nuke:

It's practically a given that you will face a Super AI in the end.

All on. The challenge is sometimes to win the way you want from the start, not the way things just happened to turn out.

I dislike Space Race and Diplomatic intensely, they're the VCs for hippies :p. I leave time on - if I haven't whooped everyone by then I consider that victory a defeat. I'd rather be conquered than win a time victory, so I leave it there as the ultimate shame.

I leave everything on except time victory. Its boring to win just because you got the highest score when you hit a sertain year. I also enable agressive Ai and more barbarians
If i win or loose its usally by space race. I havent won diplomatic, time or conquest yet. I am definalty a warmongerer.

Space race victory is totally lame, so I turn that off ( I mean, come on, a space ship?) Is it true AI isn't programmed to win other ways? You would think they would program the AI to pursue the VCs that had been selected... not much point getting a space race victory if it's not turned on....

Also, I enable time victory because if the game gets to 2050, I'm not playing anymore anyway. I consider it more of a tie though, which, as my high school football coach said is "Just like kissing your sister. Neither one of you gets anything out of it."

I leave them all on but consider time to be a loss and almost never pursue a space win because it is too easy. Can't turn space off though or the AI has no real chance of winning once you have established your civilization. Early conquest/domination wins seem to deliver the highest score so that is usually what I am angling for unless it is an isolated start (in which case I generally go for culture).

I wonder if the game material covering such areas in accordance with the AI design, if any other players in any given game have a conscious element adided in part from their leader-traites, what might be the ultimate goal after the basic, "settling" phaze in the game takes over. I wonder if the AI was given an "adaptation" enhancer.
PS. And this is funny cuz' I just got finished watching T-3 for the first time. Excellent stuff. Cracked the entirety in less than five minutes though. not a huge philosophical challenge.

My personal favorite, has and may always be conquest. I don't worry about taking any other conditions out though. I just allow the game to unfold and see where it will go. Doing that helps to keep the element of suspense which may more than compensate for a rather unnerving gameplay experience. ;)

I keep them all on, and view any victory as a victory.

Of course, some victories are more satisfying than others. :mischief:
