Firaxis has posted a new survey (http://www.firaxis.com/community/polls.cfm) on its website asking Civ fans 19 questions such as age, gender, location, games purchased, TV viewing habit, game consoles you own, and magazine subscriptions.

We really appreciate your willingness to take a few moments and complete this survey. The Civ community has grown significantly since the release of Civ III and we're very interested in learning more about the wonderful folks who enjoy our games.

Note that your e-mail must be in all lowercase letters. I got this "A Properly Formatted Email Address Is Required" message quite a few times before thinking of it.

Could you type that next to the field, Firaxis?

D'Oh! I figured it just didn't take gmail, so I gave up alltogether.

I was glad to fill in the survey for them until I got to the email address field. So, the whole thing is just a targeted marketing exercise? Pretty lame.

It's one thing to know who your customers are in general. They don't need to know that stuff about _me_. Sorry Firaxis... no survey answers from this guy.

Yeah I was about to finish this survey when I saw they required an email address.

Sorry, I won't be finishing this. Why do you need my email? I already get enough junk and spam; I do not want targeted advertising email sent to me.

for such things i always have a special address which can be spammed ;)
so i don't care if they send spam to the address i gave them :)

what I find funny is the choice they give for the question ''What items contribute to your decision to purchase a game?''

they list :
Playable demo
Trailer
In-store videos and posters
TV advertising
Recommendation from store clerk
Gaming magazine preview or review
Gaming website preview or review
Online advertisement
Special offer or discount
Recommendation from friend or peer
Opinions of users on online forums/message boards
Print advertisement

there is no choice for a bug free game or a good game! lol

Yeah, but who tells you that a game is bug-free or good before you actually buy it? If you want them to produce quality ware, choose the 'recommendation', 'opinion' or 'review' options, notthe advertisement ones ;)
