Argh! I'm trying to play a succesion game and after re-installing and installing the 1.17f patch, I get that error! Any and all help needed and appreciated. Thanks!

Its me too! Someone answer this, I noticed its been un-answered since March 18th and this really says something about your tech support...its not doing much to help.

The "Cult" error is usually a map problem. Trying to load a map with different resources, resources where they're not allowed to be, etc. If you're not dealing with any mods then it's likely a version conflict betwixt the 1.16 and 1.17 patches. The quickest way to fix it is to uninstall using the instructions in this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17184) and then reinstalling and repatching.

There are serious problems when you try to switch back to a previous patch. This is just one of them.
