View Full Version : RK-02 Gaia's Stepdaughters
Robo Kai Sep 14, 2006, 08:10 PM Game: Vanilla, unless there's a vote for Warlords
Leader: Deirdre "Hatshepsut" Skye
http://www.firaxis.com/smac/images/dierdre/dierdrecolor.jpg
Ok, she's not in the game, but picked the female leader that best looks like her (sorta) and that's Hatty from Egypt.
Map: Fractal
Map Settings: Arid Large (i.e. "looks like Planet")
Game Settings: Epic Monarch
Options: Aggressive AI
Variant rules:
1. No tree chopping allowed. Must not build any improvements that destroy forests/jungle if there is a resource on it (for example, camp on forest w/ deer is allowed)
2. Any worker found chopping a tree must be stopped immediately. If a worker unit successfully fells a forest, it must be executed (deleted).
3. Must not found a city on a forest or jungle tile. (since the forest/jungle is destroyed)
4. Just win! (*hint* UN is a good idea.)
If there is enough interest in this game we'll start. I'm looking for 4-5 players and optional alternate.
FuRRie Sep 14, 2006, 10:09 PM well, I'm having a lot of fun in RK-01, so i'd love to join. (i'm an old SMAC fan too)
Fantasy Realm could be fun, with Crazy resource location ! but in the end I don't really care.
Maybe play it in Vanilla to attract more people?
Robo Kai Sep 14, 2006, 10:39 PM Ok you're in! But this time, unlike the other game, I won't start if there's just you and me.
I'll go with Arid Fractal. Arid becuase it's easier on the variant (less trees).
RK1 is winding down anyway. After we destroy Zulu there, it's almost the domination limit.
Hopefully in this game I won't make as many :smoke: moves.
FuRRie Sep 14, 2006, 11:06 PM Indeed, better wait up for enough people this time. :)
Arid Fractal is fine by me :).
Robo Kai Sep 14, 2006, 11:54 PM Which leader will we pick? Elizabeth or Hatty look (sorta) like the picture, don't you think?
FuRRie Sep 15, 2006, 01:21 AM I'd like Hatty, I think she resembles her best.
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 02:06 AM Ok Deirdre dons a cap and becomes Hatty.
So who else wishes to join?
EDIT: roster moved to below post
Ralph_Jackson Sep 15, 2006, 08:22 AM OK Ok Despite it being just a game I must confess I do have the hots for wee Hattie and now you come aliong with a Civ Leader who is even cuter. So if you need a player count me in.... Experienced in SG's and very comfortable at monarch level
Ralph
Cosmichail Sep 15, 2006, 12:26 PM Robo Kai I would love to join if you'll have me. I am a regular Monarch player and love the SMAC game as well as lovely deidre.
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 02:30 PM Hi Cosmic, Ralph! Thanks for joining, you two are in!
Rolling start, shortly.
EDIT: roster moved to my latest post
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 03:00 PM http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/6020/rk210bn3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Narrator: Oh yeahh... it's been forever since I've played Alpha Centauri... or Vanilla Civ that is. Am I hearing this very nice song? I miss this song already... I love that song! I wish they put it in Warlords... ahem... anyway...
This isn't Earth you're seeing here. This is Planet... Chiron... whatever you want to call it.
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/9149/rk211nh3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
note: actually I picked some of the opponents to resemble SMAC factions
Story, uh, let's see... the UN peacekeeper guy won a spaceship victory back in 2000AD. Now that the crew have all reached their destination, they all broke into factions and fought amongst each other, causing the SS Unity to be destroyed. Leaders and their followers fled on escape pods, but sadly, there was no technology that could be salvaged. Everyone was cut down to the stone age.
So what does everyone do now? Beat up all the other factions? Rebuild a space ship to escape this horrible planet? Impress everyone with fancy decorations in their cities? Or the wise man's choice... Rebuild the UN?
So Deirdre Skye makes Planetfall!
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/6456/rk212qb7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The warrior used up his first turn to scout. Resources bonuses are displayed just to see how much we're getting... and missing. I'm sad that we won't be improving those Silk due to our leader's tree-hugging tendencies.
EDIT: I know Blue Marble can be confusing but that's all grassland. And why are there so many treeeessssss? I though this was Arid? Maybe I should've picked Rocky...
THE START SAVE:
mike p Sep 15, 2006, 03:10 PM OK Ok Despite it being just a game I must confess I do have the hots for wee Hattie and now you come aliong with a Civ Leader who is even cuter. So if you need a player count me in.... Experienced in SG's and very comfortable at monarch level
Ralph
And Ralph, she's actually from Edinburgh too!
Profile: Lady Deirdre Skye (http://www.firaxis.com/smac/deirdre.cfm)
Scowler Sep 15, 2006, 03:13 PM Wow! A SMAC-inspired SG! How could I not register an interest? I trust the Lady Deirdre Hatty will be "dancing naked through the forest"...? ;)
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 03:16 PM Hi Scowler, you will be the fifth then! I must now trot off to sleep while everyone ponders the start location (sorry have no time to play turns), and imagine Hatty dancing in Silk-rich woods that will never be turned into plantations. :D
*roster moved*
Scowler Sep 15, 2006, 03:29 PM Suggested variant rule: we have to adopt Environmentalism as soon as it is available and stay in it for the rest of the game.
EDIT: How about: if /when we get control of the UN we have to propose this as a resolution ASAP.
FuRRie Sep 15, 2006, 09:59 PM Sounds like a great idea Scrowler, I think RK will think so too.
I'd like to go for space, back to Alpha Centauri :D
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 10:26 PM Ok then, Environmentalism will be great for our forest-filled cities and it will kill their deforested economies. It won't likely win as a UN Vote unless we're already ruling the world... which we should be doing anyway... we will force everyone to save the trees!
Playing the rest now... say, where did everybody go? Playing the Warlords GOTM?
FuRRie Sep 15, 2006, 11:11 PM also, and playing RK-01 :D
And Scrowler and Ralph are from UK so its 5.12 am there now ;)
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 11:42 PM Deirdre/Hatty has the Spiritual trait, but it is appalling that she didn't know Mysticism yet. I decide to gamble anyway to go for Hinduism. In a normal Monarch game I would've gone for Bronze Working, but... the trees! Remember what happened to Earth?
Initial warrior heads up north to scout.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/9861/rk2200aa1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Oh, great, it's Chairman Sheng Ji-Yang of the "Human Hive" faction. Naturally, he's annoyed at us because it's partly our fault the spaceship blew up.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5870/rk2201ec2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Our scouts have surveryed his initial position. Mao possesses abundant resource deposits of "incense" and "marble" in his current territory. I like his position, so I hope he doesn't settle here first (see dotmap on next post)
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5229/rk2202vw1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Mysticism is in, and the religious gamble continues with Polytheism. Hopefully Gaia won't mind our worship of multiple imaginary deities.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/4580/rk2203dw8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
We reclaim a Unity supply pod (worth 41... "energy credits") in the name of the UN from some "villagers" who have broken away from our faction.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7402/rk2204nh3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Someone has re-developed the art of meditation and called their religion "Buddhism". We will have none of it.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/4972/rk2205nf6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Tokugawa is annoyed with us. How can we blame him.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5646/rk2206zj8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Soon our recon found themselves surrounded by packs of native wildlife.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/2608/rk2207am9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
But the native wildlife is no match for highly-trained former astronauts in caveman suits.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5898/rk2208kh7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
(to be continued)
FuRRie Sep 15, 2006, 11:46 PM The Human Hive must die :D
Great storytelling RK :)
Robo Kai Sep 15, 2006, 11:57 PM Our rival factions have more advanced weaponry at this time.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/779/rk2209wo6.jpg
Warriors repel more wildlife.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/2313/rk2210or7.jpg
Our efforts at creating a religion for our distressed citizens has succeeded. Anyone who's bored at revering Gaia now has a couple more deities to choose from.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/5717/rk2211ar7.jpg
Gaia loves us, she's provided us with more trees to dance around in.
(Player's comment: And less land to develop... crap.)
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/8992/rk2212hs8.jpg
Fortunately we still have a computer to map the world. There aren't that many ideal places to settle in without making Gaia angry.
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4018/rk2213eu9.th.jpg (http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rk2213eu9.jpg)
Turn 0, 4000BC:

Turn 10, 3700BC:
You have discovered Mysticism.
Turn 13, 3610BC:
Buddhism has been founded in a distant land.
Turn 16, 3520BC:
Our Warrior has defeated a Wolf.
Turn 21, 3370BC:
Deirdre Skye says: Turn 19: Mother of earth, warrior's surrounded by lions...
Our Warrior has defeated a Lion.
Our Warrior has defeated a Lion.
Turn 27, 3190BC:
Hinduism has been founded in Thebes.
You have discovered Polytheism.
Our Warrior has defeated Panther.
Turn 28, 3160BC:
Deirdre Skye converts to Hinduism.
Ok, ok, I'm not forcing everyone to write a superdetailed roleplaying writeup with somanyscreenshots. :D It is optional, but it will make our SG a bit more exciting.
The same:
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 12:02 AM Got the game ;)
I'll play in a couple of hours.
As i'm still on smallband I just post my turnlog ;).
Mining -> BW -> Pottery seems like a good tech path?
Robo Kai Sep 16, 2006, 12:05 AM Thanks Furrie for the compliment on the previous page. But I'm only bored with enough time on my hands. :mischief:
Again, storytelling is optional.
Roster:
1. RK (just played)
2. Furrie (up for 20)
3. Ralph_Jackson (on deck for 15)
4. Cosmichail (15)
5. Scowler (15)
First set: 30 20 15 15...
Then... 15 turns each until 1000AD or when we feel empire so big...
My suggestion: Don't go BW. Get Animal Husbandry first, see if we have horses for War Chariots. If we have horses, get Pottery next to cottage the floodplains then BW later. Otherwise get BW now because we need defenses.
Settler next after worker, work gem mines first starting with the hill square.
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 12:08 AM I'd love the tell the story, and I will once i'm back on Broadband.
Maybe take out Mao real quick? (aka BW -> Axe rush ?)
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 12:23 AM T1: :coffee:
T2: :coffee:
T3: :coffee:
T4: :coffee:
T5: Mining -> Bronze Working (Didn't we allrdy have Lasers and such on Alpha Centauri, why didn't we take those with us to this world :crazyeye: )
T6: :coffee:
T7: Thebes: Worker -> Barracks (Worker Frams the Corn)
T8: :coffee:
T9: :coffee:
T10: :coffee:
T11: Kill Native Lifeforms
T12: :coffee:
T13: Meet Mansa Musa
T14: :coffee:
T15: Corn is Farmed :egypt:
Roster:
1. RK (15)
2. Furrie (Just Played)
3. Ralph_Jackson (UP for 15)
4. Cosmichail (On deck for 15)
5. Scowler (15)
Robo Kai Sep 16, 2006, 01:15 AM Someone get Animal Husbandry to check for horses soon? Oh well, maybe I edited the post too late.
I think War Chariot rush would've been faster and cheaper than Axes, oh well :)
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 01:22 AM true, might wanna go AH after BW then, but BW is always usefull, even when we aren't allowed to chop forests. :)
Robo Kai Sep 16, 2006, 01:27 AM Yeah, I guess... it's either
1. we have horses
2. we have bronze
3. we don't have anything... which means we have to go Iron Working to check if we have iron. (le sigh)
Mansa Musa BTW is Nwabudike Morgan (the capitalist guy).
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 01:30 AM right, die you capatalist pigs !
Ralph_Jackson Sep 16, 2006, 03:15 AM Ok got it will play post Saturday p.m
FuRRie Sep 16, 2006, 03:52 AM aka this afternoon :D
Robo Kai Sep 16, 2006, 06:16 AM And Ralph, she's actually from Edinburgh too!

...coincidence! (eerie music plays)
:band:
Ralph_Jackson Sep 16, 2006, 08:18 AM Turn 0 Start Gem Mine to boost Research / hammers.
Switch build order to finish warrior before barracks as 1 warrior out scouting is not enough
2560 BC :smoke: and :coffee:
2530 Some of the other factions are spreading as fast as a plague of Tribbles as we notice that Lizzie has planted a new city to our E
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1lize.jpg
2500 See turn 1
2470 Of course she is the most glorious woman in the world we already new that
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1gloroious.jpg
2440 The exploring landing party to the East fights off another furious Terran beast their growing experience now leads them better able to cope with this tree dominated terrain they are surrounded in (Woodsmen II). Apart from that the only thing reported is its darn hard to scratch mosquito bites inside a space suit.
2350 Mao’s faction have also been spreading like Tribbles with a new settlement to the North. Our scientists have finally puzzled out how to extract some usable metal from the brown ore we have found dotting about, unfortunately the only sizable deposit is not in that great a location
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1copper.jpg
Deirdre decides there has been far too much slacking going on recently and decides to crack the whip if required. Nobody complains because they are all drooling at the thought!!
Research now moves onto looking after these crazy earth animals in case we can find a use for them.
(I decide to play through to AH as although not exactly 15 turns it will let us decide on a future path.)
2200 BC Deirdre cracks the whip for 2 pop to get a maximum overflow into our settler to help speed it out.
2110 BC. The scientists complete their research and proudly announce that if we could capture some of these horse things they have some cracking ideas of things we could do unfortunately there are none in our vicinity!!
Settler due in 9 who is headed down to the SW for copper. Despite the overlap I think pink dot is the spot for him
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1coppertown.jpg
We are researching very quickly with our two gem mines but need to expand!! Lizzie, Mao and Masnas will box us in soon. Research has been set to Iron working but no beakers invested with the obvious alternative being to go down the writing – Alphabet path.
Worker is building a road for coppertown.
The world as we know it
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1world.jpg
Robo Kai Sep 16, 2006, 01:35 PM I note that the rice is colored violet, which means the Chinese have a city there. :( Looks like we can build one city on the west side, and then hire Axemen like no tomorrow to grab some "free cities". Somehow getting boxed in does have its perks...
Roster:
1. RK (15)
2. Furrie (15)
3. Ralph_Jackson (just played)
4. Cosmichail (up for 15)
5. Scowler (on deck for 15)
Scowler Sep 17, 2006, 06:24 AM If nobody has any objection I'll take my turns nows so that I don't end up UP in my other SGs at the same time. Cosmic, are you there? Give us a shout in the next couple of hours if you have aready played or want to. Otherwise I am stealing the save! :mischief:
Looking at the map, I think we have to go for Pink Dot. It looks like we are heading for an early war (vs. the English faction?) to avoid getting boxed in so we need that copper connected ASAP. We can't found a city on Yellow anyway, due to the variant rules. ;)
Do we go for IW and hope there is iron in the immediate vicinity for swords? Shame there are no horses for our UU.
Robo Kai Sep 17, 2006, 06:42 AM We can fight the Chinese OR the Enligsh, we'll see. Since Cosmichail hasn't responded AND has a glitch involving the forum, do take your turns.
Don't worry Cosmic, I won't take it against you! Just a skip for once.
FuRRie Sep 17, 2006, 07:26 AM I think taking out Moa first is the better option, as he has some really good lands.
But it's your choice Scowler :)
Scowler Sep 17, 2006, 08:00 AM I think taking out Moa first is the better option, as he has some really good lands.
But it's your choice Scowler :)
It won't be happening in my turnset anyway, so there is plenty of time for us to decide. :)
You might be right about Mao's lands.
However, my reasoning is:
Mao got BW a few turns before we did and has already founded a city on a copper source:
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8882/civilization42006091713382596hr7.jpg
This city is also on a plains hill so will have good initial production for axes, and be harder to take. By the time we build our own force and get there I suspect we may face an uphill battle - literally.
The English will probably be concentrating on infrastructure rather than defense and so will present an easier target. Also, no sign of copper nearby for them to use (unless it is further S under the fog).
We are pretty much bang on the equator, so it is just as likely that we can grab the English territory and find more good land further south.
There are also horses to be found to the NE of her territory: not close enough for her to use yet, but it would sure be nice for us to take them...
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8427/civilization42006091714001967au8.jpg
But this is just my 2 :commerce: ;)

Cosmichail Sep 17, 2006, 09:57 AM Hi guys
Ready to play and hopefully my upload problem is fixed. I will play after work tonight in the mid evening.
This is "I got it"
Robo Kai Sep 17, 2006, 10:01 AM Well, I hope Scowler hasn't played...
Welcome back, Cosmic! Play to your heart's content... er, 15 turns max
Cosmichail Sep 17, 2006, 10:02 AM I was wondering the same thing so will check here before I play tonight.
Scowler Sep 17, 2006, 12:03 PM Yes, I've played, and I'll post the report and the save in just a little while.
Scowler Sep 17, 2006, 12:30 PM Pardon the brevity of this report, Lady Dierdre, but our advisors are busy monitoring the encroachment of the neighbouring factions.
Our first and most important task was to found a new base to take advantage of the nearby copper resource. Alas, we discovered our colonists idly breeding in the recreation commons, bemoaning the lack of a motorized colony pod. By your grace, lady, they were whipped and sent to the south with a flea in their ears to construct Autumn Grove. (In a final act of defiance the colonists expressed a desire to give it the archaic name of "Memphis". They were swiftly corrected. You will also note that the capital has now been officially renamed "Gaia's Landing", as per your original wishes).
Our rather more industrious formers, also sadly relegated to footwork, had already finished the road there, and were able to start building a copper mine right away.
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/6765/civilization42006091717444376xx5.jpg
Science report:
While the best and brightest were lured away by the unlikely promises of Academician Prokhor Zakharov, our remaining scientists have endeavoured to rediscover the lost technologies of Pottery ... and Writing ( ) We now have the ability to build cottages, and one of these is being constructed near Autumn Grove to generate additional commerce. We have now invested some credits into discovering the tools of Iron Working, but this could be altered in favour of teaching our children the long-lost secrets of ABC :mischief:
Military overview:
One of our long-range scouts discovered a strange being near the territory of the Morganite sympathiser, Mansa Musa.
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8351/civilization42006091717290010ep3.jpg
Attempts at communication revealed that this "creature" is actually part of another faction: one that has regressed to primitivism and anarchy and seeks only to destroy others more organised than itself. Our warrior fled from it, but was later attacked by others of its kind, destroying them but becoming injured in the process. More worryingly, another "barbarian" was seen to the west of Autumn Grove. However, it vanished back into the uncharted regions before it could be apprehended. We fear it will not be long before more of these louts appear.
Lady, that concludes our present report. Attached is a more detailed record for your perusal.
Datalinks (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/44064/Deirdre_Skye_BC-1600.Civ4SavedGame)
Robo Kai Sep 17, 2006, 06:35 PM Excellent. Things are looking up except for the barbarians. I'd think Axemen are a good idea now.
I don't know if Iron Working is a viable choice, since we won't be chopping jungles anyway. Swords however, may be great for taking over our nearest rival faction's settlements. What do you think? Alphabet might be fine to start the tech trading we badly need.
Great, it's Cosmic's turn now.
Roster:
1. RK (on deck for 15)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
5. Scowler (just played)
4. Cosmichail (swapped in for 15)
FuRRie Sep 18, 2006, 01:49 AM I'd go IW -> Alphabet -> ... Construction
Catapults will just give us the advantage we need in the long game plan.
Barbarians aren't Raging right? so they shoudn't pose a problem, get some Axes out and take some easy cities eams like out short term plan :D
Robo Kai Sep 18, 2006, 03:23 AM The good thing about that "short term plan" is we can get more cities to build those catapults. Though the longer we wait the better our infrastructure will be to support our invasion. It's a toss-up.
However I think we should research (after Iron + Alpha) lit + drama + music or CoL + Civil Service because the AI will get math and construction and we can get it from them.
FuRRie Sep 18, 2006, 03:34 AM sounds good too, but the AI tends to be an ass to trade away Construction, well, in my experience :)
Robo Kai Sep 18, 2006, 10:17 AM Cosmichail, I'm really sorry for the confusion.
I'll get it.
Cosmichail Sep 18, 2006, 10:37 AM Robo,
I just played and ready to post it.
Cosmichail Sep 18, 2006, 10:38 AM Deidre Skye looks out on the capitol and is quite satisfied with the location of it and what it offers in the ways of commerce. The Gaian philosophy was to put “Planet” ahead of all things and that commerce must be achieved without affecting Planet. The Gaians did not agree with the other factions and was seeking a way to undo them. It was ordered that we start building military to strike at our most wasteful neighbour Mansa Musa a sympathizer of the Morganites. Further expansion was starting on the plains for new settlements to accommodate more citizens and produce wealth for the empire.
Turns 1 thru 7 (uneventful just moving warrior around)
On the seventh year of this reign Lady Elizabeth known to sympathize with the fanatic “Sister Miriam” came to join in our philosophy and religious understanding.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0509.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0510.jpg
Deidre, Deidre called the young brood trainer. Yes yes what is it asked Deidre? My lady I have had impressions of native people looking to attack us. Yes Lindy and what of these natives do they have powerful weapons or can we take them on. My lady in my mind I see a tribe of natives that are strong but not smart. They will attack against heavily defended cities or seek to pillage what we have in the outlying areas. Good Lindy we shall ensure that we have protection of our precious gems. These gems power the empire of are believed to be the same gems that once powered “Atlantis”. Gaia was kind to the followers by providing with such a rich surrounding. Deidre sought to find favor in battle as well as we know this will soon be upon us whether against a neighbour or the natives that Lindy spoke of.
Warrior is attacked by native and the warrior prevails.
On turn 11 we discover Iron working a new form of smelting that will allow our engineers to produce stronger military units. We seek now to gain knowledge beyond and engage in researching the “Alphabet”.
Gaia’s Landing builds a axeman and starts another.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0511.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0512.jpg
A quiet time in the Gaian empire but Deidre knew in her heart that would change.
Robo Kai Sep 18, 2006, 10:55 AM Excellent! Excellent! You almost played the turns almost exactly as I played it (Toku got Jude, Liz got Hindu and you got to fight an insurgent group of warriors). Which means I get to post screenshots.
Visual on Shanghai. I really suggest attacking Shanghai to strip the Human Hive/China of their copper, by the time our 4-5 axes are complete he should only have 1-2 axes and/or spears and he will be forced to cancel the wonder he's likely to be building now... his lands are far better than Liz's as you can see and we desperately need an ally.
(see attachments)
Got it will (re)play shortly using your save.
EDIT: The iron is on evil parts of the map. :| We can settle on the iron near Mao's lands should we need it. That is, after taking apart Mao.
Robo Kai Sep 18, 2006, 11:43 AM Turn 0 (1130BC):
It's all spic and span in the new world (literally).
Ooh, what are we doing massing Axemen instead of building settlers and workers? Some evil plotting by the nature lovers..? Feh, the Human Hive were useless on the UN voyage anyway.
We shouldn't probably attack the Morganites (Mansa) because their weaponry seems more sophisticated than other similar models of primitive projectile launchers from other factions.
END TURN!
Turn 3:
I don't agree to Open Borders with Mao.
Morganites (Mali) have adopted the new rogue faith Tokugawa calls Judaism. I forsee a religious war. But for now, we need to focus on China and declare before they get Judaism.

"Why is Autumn Grove a festering pit of unhealthiness and disease?" wondered Deirdre, loud enough to be heard by her secretary.
"Mistress, there are many patches of jungle in the area. If we could..."
"The jungles can't be the cause. Order the workers to feed them corn!"
"But Mistress, the workers are currently tied up in a housing project..."
"Afterwards, then!"
Deirdre realized that the Gaians need more workers. But not after the war to strip the Hive of resources.
Turn 4:
Gaia's Landing now has a gargantuan territorial scope. So large, Gaian citizens can climb the trees and wave to the uncultured Human Hive masses in Shanghai.
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7825/rk232wx6.jpg
Turn 5:
Autumn Grove: Axeman -> Axeman
Move to join Axeman task force at Gaia's Landing
Turn 6:
A certain Gibbon says we're the third largest faction in terms of territory.
Workers begin to connect the corn farmlands via road.
Turn 7:
The Oracle has been built in a far away land.
Turn 8:
Mao approaches with a Spearman and a Settler. Must we strike now?
Turn 9:
Move Axe force near Shanghai. I think we can take the new city when it reaches size 2 and won't be destroyed by our invasion.
Turn 10:
Shanghai's borders have expanded, giving it 20% defense. :(
Temporarily lower science to 20% to get enough money to upgrade a warrior.
Turn 11:
Gaia's Landing: Axeman -> Axeman
Promote 4/2 exp warrior to an Axe.
prematurely end my turnset...
Agenda
1. Team vote: declare war on Mao now before he gets Judaism? We have 5 axes total, a 6th and 7th under production.
*note: there is loose Chinese Archer on the Southeast. We can wait for the Axeman from Autumn Grove to finish before war declaration so we can take care of this extra hitch.
Our stack + 1 axe on the way:
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1139/rk233ut9.jpg
The backstabber, plus the iron that's just out of our reach:
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9637/rk234ca8.jpg
Our save:
Scowler Sep 18, 2006, 12:06 PM If we are going to declare war on Mao I think it should be now, while there are only 2 archers in Shanghai; otherwise wait til cats are available.
Cosmichail Sep 18, 2006, 03:12 PM I vote yes to attacking Mao
Robo Kai Sep 18, 2006, 06:23 PM Great, 3 votes for Mao. Attack it is.
Thebes won't have a cultural expansion soon, so much for the iron.
The plan?
1. Attack and fortify Shanghai
2. Rebuild and attack his new town? We'll probably lose troops in Shanghai (it's on a hill).
3. After we take Shanghai and his new town, what, sue for peace, grab a free tech from Mao, and rebuild?
The question now is, should we attack with 5 axes, lower research to upgrade a 6th, or wait for a 6th one from Autumn Grove (with a 7th one in the capital coming to intercept the archer)
Roster:
1. RK (just played)
2. Furrie (up now for 15)
3. Ralph_Jackson (on deck for 15)
4. Cosmichail
5. Scowler
FuRRie Sep 19, 2006, 01:59 AM Got the game, i'll play as soon as possible (i'm quite buzy).
Right, good turns guys,
I'd Whip the Axe in Autumn Grove, upgrade the last warrior to Axe and take Shanghai, heal up and take the new city/capital.
I'll report later, i'll see what I find best (and offcourse take everything that has been said into account :))
Ralph_Jackson Sep 19, 2006, 02:58 AM Definitely makes sense to take down Mao while we can.
Take shanghai then take his capital.Hopefully Alphabet will come in nicely timed for a tech demand for Peace.
Re upgrading Warriors the 4 experience one may make sense but I think it is a poor use of commerce upgrading warriors at this point and we are better placed maximizing research and just being aggressive with the whip if we feel we need an extra Axe.
Anyway Furrie enjoy applying the :hammer: as we all know its the fun part of the game!!
Ralph
FuRRie Sep 19, 2006, 03:19 AM Time for some
:hammer:
:whipped:
moeha :goodjob:
Robo Kai Sep 19, 2006, 03:28 AM Well that's fine Ralph, since we don't have any more 4 exp warriors other the one already upgraded
The only one left that's worth upgrading is a 9/10 Woodsman II which may not be the best idea anyway.
FuRRie Sep 19, 2006, 03:47 AM I've had some bad RNG luck, and lost quite a lot of units, BUT we are looking good after all.
Pre: Whip the Axe in Autumn Grove to remove unhealthiness.
T1: Elizabeth asks OB; I accept
Autumn: Axe -> Barracks (!)
Invade Mao
T2: Attack Shanghai, Lose 3 Axes kill 1 Archer (God this is bad....)
T3: Fishing + Hunting + Archery from Elizabeth for Mysticism + Wheel + Pottery
Kill Xian (the new city with the Spearman)
Take Shanghai, Losing 4 Axes for only 2 Archers, CR1 Swordsmen are way better for attacking hill cites with archers...)
T4: Izzy demands IW -> hell no :)
T5: Masonry comes in -> Mathematics
T8: Izzy demands Gems, I accept, to keep her happy, shes still at +4
T12: Whip barracks in Autumn Grove to kill unhealth.
T13: Grove: Barracks -> Workboat (come come fishes :p)
T15: Mahtmatics -> Construction
I doubt my number of turns is correct, I'm really bad in counting :D
Ideas/Suggestions/Plans
1. We have a small stack (3-4 Axes on a hill near Shanghai), if we can get it to 6-7 Axes we might want to attack Mao and take his Capital.
We can sue for peace but h only has Sailing, which isn't worth it.
2. Izzy is being a real *****, maybe take her out next?
Ralph_Jackson Sep 19, 2006, 05:31 AM Don't worry too much about the Vagaries of the RNG sometimes it just works out like that. Taking Archers on a hill always requires a few sacrifices....
:goodjob:
I say press on building a few more axes and take his capital. Now if we need 10 turns to build up the stack to take his capital then having sailing as a free tech over that period makes sense and also means he will be less likely to build more archers while we are increasing our axes. Need to look at the save to judge this one...
Ralph
Robo Kai Sep 19, 2006, 07:02 AM Don't eliminate Elizabeth, she's our only ally. Only refuse Alphabet.
If you're talking about Isabella (don't recall seeing her recently) then refuse it all!
Ralph, I think you can take Mao's other cities (there's one near our capital) while building the 10 or so axes.
EDIT: Loaded the save. That city was gone
Just remember to cancel the Gems tribute when you can.
Ralph_Jackson Sep 19, 2006, 09:31 AM Forgot to say it will be Wednesday evening at the earliest (up in SGOTM) before I can play, wouldn't normally mention this as it is within the 24 got it then 48 play standards but with the pace :goodjob: we have been galloping through turns didn't want people to get frustrated!!
If somebody is itching to play their set feel free to post a got it and take over the save as I will check here before playing.
Ralph
Robo Kai Sep 19, 2006, 10:58 AM Ok then, we'll wait for you, don't worry. Good luck on the SGOTM.
Veritass Sep 19, 2006, 11:18 AM Lurker Comments:
Great fun to read; I haven't played SMAC in a bug's age.
Is mining and ripping out the bowels of the planet consistent with Gaian philosophy? (Not that you would stand a chance without it.)
As I recall, Deidre usually got along quite well with the academician; perhaps you should be friendly with Mansa, your local brainiac?
Cosmichail, did you ever get what I sent you? Just want to make sure it got there.
Cosmichail Sep 19, 2006, 11:24 AM Veritass,
I just got notification from the post office today. Will be picking it up tomorrow am and looking forward to playing. Many thanks Veritass appreciate it.
Veritass Sep 19, 2006, 12:12 PM Great! Just wanted to follow up and make sure it got there.
Cosmichail Sep 19, 2006, 12:35 PM Veritass
I played SMAC the other day and it felt strange compared to civ4. The graphics are kind of mediocre compared to civ 4 but still a good play. You're right about Deidre and Provost being friendly usually. I have played as Provost and had Deidre be very nasty especially if I had a "planned" economy.
Would like to see a follow up one of that game with new graphics. I also liked in SMAC how you could truly terraform changing the landscape by raising land and using formers to lower your enemies land and destroy their city. What especially I liked the ability to build custom made type vehicles. The antigrav was great for very fast units with deadly weaponry and as terraformers.
Robo Kai Sep 19, 2006, 06:43 PM Mind Worms and Fungal Towers usually do the trick before Locusts and Antigrav became available...
I mostly only played Academy and Gaians.
Mining? PAH, it's nothing compared to what I make the Gaians do in my games: build thermal boreholes
EDIT: Oh yeah, Mansa = Morgan, thank you.
Scowler Sep 20, 2006, 09:31 AM Hi guys. This is just to let you know that I currently have a problem with my Civ machine. I'm hoping that it won't take more than 24-48hrs to fix, but this is just to let you know to skip me if my turns come up during that time. I'll keep you informed if it looks like taking longer. Sorry.
Robo Kai Sep 20, 2006, 10:03 AM Ralph should be playing Wednesday night (Scottish time). Cosmichail will be up next. Chances are you'll get that fixed.
Ralph_Jackson Sep 20, 2006, 11:23 AM Pre Turn
A fairly simple objective, build axes, recon HQ of Miaow’s faction and prepare to enlarge Deirde’s sphere of influence.
As far as Vicky goes a watching brief had been ordered, as long as her demands didn’t become excessive we would accommodate here… leaving her feeling secure and happy until……..
Turn 1 Advance into Mao’s primitive sensor range
Turn 2 640BC, park troop across the river from Mao , he may be daft enough to attack outwards, who knows
Turn 3 610 BC Mao has spawned another outpost which could be useful training for our forces before the final assault. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1nanjing.jpg
Unfortunately its location doesn’t accord with Deirdre’s Optimal Terrain Mapping and Planning (aka DOT Map) so it will probably have to be razed)
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1dotmap.jpg
Turn 4 580 BC. Shanghai completes Archer onto Workboat
Turn 5 565 BC Worker completes road to Shanghai and starts on Pasture. Ummmm and Ahhh about probably losing 2 axes to take down Nanjing removing this city and getting a couple of Axes Promoted.
Turn 6 550 BC Position troops around Nanjing
Turn 7 535BC Miaow moves an Archer out of the city which is too much temptation for me to resist, take down the Archer that would reinforce the capital and destroy Nanjing (no screenie sorry) at the cost of 1 Axe but gaining promotion to 2 city raider 2 archers out of it.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1tempting.jpg
Turn 8 520 BC Autumn Grove completes workboat and starts on library, with only a few squares worth “working” but decent food it is a prime candidate for working 2 early scientists to get an academy.
Turn 9 505 BC troops positioned out side Beijing, with 3CG Archers probably need 6-9 Axes to take him down (sacrifice 3 weak ones then our City Raider 2 take him down)
Turn 10 Axes Healing we have 6 axes + another due very soon or Mao will offer us Sailing for 10 turns of Peace, next player can decide, no good tech trades available yet
Mao managed to sneak out another settler or two and has some weirdly positioned cities!!
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/1weird.jpg
Construction in 6
Robo Kai Sep 20, 2006, 06:31 PM Excellent job wrecking the Human Hive... and I really laughed at the "dotmap" part
I don't think the new cities will be any much of a threat, since they're probably new and can't build anything worth jack quickly. After we take Mao's capital and his extra city near Gaia's Landing we should probably just grab a tech (even Sailing ) for his last city since that city is deep within Japanese territory anyway.
We probably have a religious war on our hands soon.
Roster:
1. RK (potentially on deck for 15)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
4. Cosmichail (up for 15)
5. Scowler (temp skip)
Start taking 10 turns at 0BC.
EDIT: Spotted some un-improved cows near Shanghai. Autumn Grove could use the extra health.
Cosmichail Sep 20, 2006, 09:29 PM Ok this is "I got it" and will play/post sometime tomorrow.
Cosmichail Sep 21, 2006, 06:11 PM Deidre looked at the tactical situation at Beijing and knew that the warriors needed siege weapons to take the city. It would take probably 8-10 warriors to take the city with siege and we didn’t have close to that yet. Other warriors were on the way but even so the odds for the best warrior was a mere 7.3% so siege was definitely needed.
Turn 1-2
Moving axes to Beijing for battle
Turn 3
Take out archer
loose axe to archer
Whip axe in Gaia’s landing 1 unhappy.
It become apparent to Deidre that Yang was pumping out archers quite fast at Beijing and engaging our warriors slowing us down. The warriors moved to the mines to stop them from being worked which slowed it down a bit but still producing archers fast and being an inconvenience.
Turn 4
Archer attacks axes at Beijing and looses
Turn 5
Discover construction start sailing.
(picture didn’t get saved for some reason)
Turn 6
Take out another archer leaving Beijing
We have cats now so wait for them as odds are no good and not enough axes to take city.
Turn 7
Move a more axes to Beijing
Whip catapult
Turn 8
Discover sailing start priesthood (for temples)
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0525.jpg
Turn 9
Discover Priest hood start monotheism for Organized religion
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0526.jpg
Turn 10
Take out archer
Mao keeps sending out archer after archer slowing us down.
Turn 11 thru Turn 15
Consisted mainly of taking out archers and getting more catapults there. The defenses at Beijing are down to 5% but I would wait for the other cats and use them to soften up the defenders for the axes. We will have to waste the cats and a couple of attackers but hopefully the RNG will be in our favor.
We also discover monotheism and start literature for the heroic epic and great library if that is in the gameplan.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0528.jpg
Saved game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/90198/Deirdre_Skye_BC-0205.Civ4SavedGame)
Robo Kai Sep 21, 2006, 08:13 PM Good work. I'll take it now since Scowler seems to still be on auto-skip.
Robo Kai Sep 21, 2006, 09:15 PM Turn 0:
Queue a Library at Gaia's Landing
Reason: Great Library
Turn 1:
Move all relevant troops to Beijing's doorstep
Turn 2:
What, Mao gets a fifth archer! :( Now I am sweating.
Waiting for Catapult from back to get to front line.
Turn 5:
Two archers who are apparently suffering from low morale, leave town!
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/7610/rk251yd4.jpg
***BEIJING***
Catapult dies to Archer
Catapult withdraws from Archer

Axeman defeats Archer
Excellent, Beijing has The Great Lighthouse. We also have Marble nearby to help our Great Library.
I spot a backstabbing archer near the gems at Gaia's Landing. We stand to lose the gems, so I attempt to intercept by moving our warrior from the capital and temporarily replacing it with the warrior from Autumn Grove.
Turn 6:
Consolidate troops in Beijing to heal in 4 turns.
Turn 7:
Gaia's Landing: Axeman -> Library
Warrior fortifies on gem hill. Don't worry, if he dies, there's an Axe waiting. I don't want to spend money yet.
Turn 8:
Research: Literature -> Code of Laws (may be a :smoke:, I don't know)
Archers retreat! We fortify axe and warrior on Gem hill.
Turn 9:
Shanghai: Lighthouse -> Catapult
Autumn Grove: Archer -> WORKER!!
Turn 11:
Hinduism has spread to Djenne, one of Mansa's towns.
Leave an Axe in Beijing, march towards a nearby Hive city.
Mansa seems to have founded a city near the city we razed. Oh well. So much for the D.O.T.M.A.P. we'll get him later.
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/7976/rk253vd5.jpg
Turn 12:
Beijing starts Archer
Now at 100% science for -13gpt.
Turn 13:
Show up at Chengdu.
Turn 14:
***CHENGDU***
Axeman defeats Archer

Get 97 gold and raze it.

Turn 15:
Start trek back to Beijing and END TURN!
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7484/rk256oi5.jpg
Excellent, we have one free tech and the Human Hive/Mao is down to one last bastion. I razed Chengdu because of the dotmap. We may build a settler to replace it soon. Meanwhile, Gaia's Landing is working on a Library which is a prerequisite to build the Great Library.
THE SAVE:
Robo Kai Sep 21, 2006, 09:20 PM Roster:
1. RK
2. Furrie (up for 15)
3. Ralph_Jackson (on deck for 15)
4. Cosmichail
5. Scowler (temp skip)
Yeah, I DID say "start taking 10 turns at 0BC", but our empire's quite small, so let's just do 15 to finish this rotation.
FuRRie Sep 22, 2006, 03:13 AM Got the game.
Good turns guys, we are looking good.
I'll try to play ASAP :)
FuRRie Sep 22, 2006, 03:55 PM I'm very sorry but i'll need a skip, i'm going home this weekend and have no acces to Civ IV not internet.
I can't play now either.
I'm really sorry guys.
Ralph is up then for 15 :)
Robo Kai Sep 22, 2006, 07:35 PM Furrie weekend skip again? Ok then, Ralph, plug and play if you can!
FuRRie Sep 23, 2006, 02:57 AM well, I go home every 2/3 weeks in the weekend, and then I need a skip, but i'll always mention it.
I'm very sorry because I really wanted to play :)
I'll be back sunday-night.
Ralph_Jackson Sep 24, 2006, 05:01 AM Furrie, if you can play Sunday night then take it as I wont get to it before then, if not let me know and we can swap.
Ralph
FuRRie Sep 24, 2006, 05:39 PM I can't (its sunday night here now) but i need to get up at 6 tomorrow morning.
You go ahead and play :)
Robo Kai Sep 24, 2006, 09:23 PM Bump. Where is everyone? I must ask Cosmic to continue if no one responds in 14 hours.
Ralph_Jackson Sep 25, 2006, 01:15 AM Ok this is my got it will play and post tonight!
Ralph
Ralph_Jackson Sep 25, 2006, 02:16 PM Pre turn Decide to whip in Library at Gaia’s Landing as it is set up for a nice 2 point whip and has 1 unhappy face already
Turn 1 Capital starts on Great library, will get marble bonus in a couple of turns when border pops (this shows I made potentially :smoke: decision as if I had waited for this the Marble bonus would apply to the whip over flow but so be it).
It is clear that Mao had aligned with Tokugawa in some alliance as his workers are detected building a road in his territory.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/2morganalliance.jpg
It was now clear to Sky that the Morganite faction had grown to include these two and was a threat to be dealt with, especially with Morgan nowclearing blessed forest in his territory, time to build an Army to deal with this threat….
Turn 2 Shanghai goes on to a settler build to claim the Iron in accordance with D.O.T.M.A.P as Deirdre’s scientific advisors had concluded that iron would make our future conquests easier (Skirmishers on a hill make a mess of axemen!!)
Turn 3 Beijing to Barracks for future Military production
Turn 4 Deirdre decreed that a little use of the whip was required in Beijing to deal with the unhappy citizens who were still unhappy and whining about wanting to rejoin the Morganite alliance
Turn 5 Code of Laws come in, now Deirdre always liked things to be well organised so pushes on towards Civil Service.
Turn 6 Troops being positioned ready to tackle the Morganites
Turn 7 Now I like Elizabeth but this is a deal I can turn dwong
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/2vickydeal.jpg
Turn 8-9 The sugar east of our capital that doesn’t require cutting down a forest is now being hooked up as we need the happiness
Turn 10 Leave the save at a critical point Tokugawa is trying to settle and I suspect claim our Iron, this means we need to push the :hammer: button a wee bit earlier than planned, I could have done but decide to leave to the next player, as we have an unmoved Axe an next door shouldn’t be a problem…
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/2toku.jpg
Settler due in 2 ready to hook up Iron and take it to the Morganites, demographically we are fine..
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/2demog.jpg
Robo Kai Sep 25, 2006, 06:37 PM Well, depends on how much army we have at the moment. We were on builder mode before the rogue settlers arrived, so I don't expect a huge army on our side but a huge army on Toku's side. I personally don't think Toku will ask the Mali/Morganites for help anyway, considering his personality...
Excellent. We may try turning Liz on Mansa to distract him as well.
Roster:
1. RK (potentially on the pod bay for 10)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson (just stopped some Drone Riots)
4. Cosmichail (up for 15, perhaps to pronounce Vendetta?)
5. Scowler (hasn't radioed in from the other end of the Monsoon Jungle) (potentially on the pod bay for 10)
Scowler Sep 25, 2006, 07:03 PM 5. Scowler (hasn't radioed in from the other end of the Monsoon Jungle)
Blame sunspot activity... :mischief:
I stopped to investigate a monolith and now everything is back to full working order.
Robo Kai Sep 25, 2006, 07:05 PM Welcome back! Now you're on deck!
BTW you can play in VQ08 now if you want. :D
Cosmichail Sep 25, 2006, 07:29 PM I am always up for vendetta's and war considering my favourite is a dark character. Let the blood spill.
I am pooped out from Gotm wreaking havoc so I will get to this tomorrow morning. So this is "I got it"
Cosmichail Sep 26, 2006, 12:42 PM Gaia’s stepdaughters….
After some contemplation Deidre recognizes that our rival Yang sympathizer Toku is about to take the precious metal that we need. Rather than loose it and looking to what cities Toku has visible it appears that he really isn’t that strong. The archer and settler near our axe and it is then that Deidre decides to attack and take it out and speed up our settler as Mansa is approaching also with a settler for the site and already has the metal.
Just by one turn does our settler manage to settle and start a new city which we named appropriately “Chiron”. During this session I also renamed two of cities to better suit our theme. Beijing is now known as “Memory of Earth” and Shanghai is now known as “Mindword Pass”. The Mindword pass is well suited since there is wild jungle nearby and animals to frequent the area.
In order to deal with happiness issues and immediately get iron Chiron was settled on the plains hill to capture both right away. Once we finish with the iron we can hook up Incense and make our people happier.
Our friend and companion came to us with this offer and of course accepted:
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0556.jpg
We are now able to build our UU war chariots and have built a few of them. Gaia’s Landing looks like it will be a great GP farm for us once we get happiness up somewhat. We should think about metal casting too get forges too soon and also help with happiness.
The war with Toku has been for the most part a “phony war” only to make sure we got the iron and decide to make peace for now. We are now accumulating somewhat of an army near Memory of Earth and should be able to attack MM if we wish. Nice thing is Toku cannot declare on us for the next 8 turns or so.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0557.jpg
Did try to make tech trades with Lizzy but all she will trade is meditation which we do need. Although I don’t think trading COL for it is worth it. Once we get Civil service the other tech I think we really need soon too is Monarchy.
Und here is de save:
EDIT: I did name it "Mindworm Pass" not Mindword Pass which is a typo.
That makes Scowler up...........................
Scowler Sep 26, 2006, 01:14 PM Right, I guess I'll be playing tonight then... :)
Robo Kai Sep 26, 2006, 06:57 PM Great, super, excellent! Finally we have horses. Stupid planet. *looks around if mind worms are behind him eavesdropping*
Good call on killing off the settler. I'm surprised a Monarch AI sued for peace for free without us having to take a single city.
Scowler Sep 27, 2006, 12:21 AM A slight panic when the save refused to load because of modified assets ... but this was solved by switching clouds back on in global view with CivScale :crazyeye:
And off we go...

515 AD: Our improved Network Nodes have yielded the secrets of Monarchy. This has proved beneficial to our negotiations with our erstwhile ally, Elizabeth. We have gained her knowledge of Currency in exchange for Monarchy and Literature. Unfortunately, she took the opportunity to complain of the attack on her "friend", Morgan. I fear she is being increasingly tempted by his materialistic ways.
In other news, we succeeded in taking the Morganite base, Walata. There was little to be gained from keeping it, and the Lady Deirdre ordered it razed so that the land there may eventually recover from its shameful exploitation. Our thoughts and gratitude go out to those brave soldiers who gave their lives for the planet, including a CRIII axeman whom our analysts believed to have a 94% chance of victory...
530 AD: We have learned that what remains of the Human Hive has been hoarding its resources. We therefore demanded the 70 credits that they had amassed. The Chairman had no choice but to agree; it is only right and proper that the profits from their "social engineering" should be redirected towards our crusade on behalf of the planet.
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/8297/civilization42006092704044534rk7.jpg
545 AD: We attack and capture Djenne! We suffer no losses; in fact, we are able to liberate a former. The nearby forests have suffered under Morgan, but the resources that he has uncovered can now be used without harming the land. Once the population has been fully assimilated and re-educated the base can be renamed something more appropriate.
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/739/civilization42006092704092109ck7.jpg
560 AD: Treacherous Elizabeth has cancelled the deal providing us with horses! She is now Ambivalent towards us, thanks to her peculiar spiritual beliefs and her Morganite sympathies...
575 AD: One of Morgan's chariots was able to pillage a plantation near Gaia's landing. The enemy unit has now been obliterated.
Addendum: please note that our social engineers have recently made the following changes to our lifestyle: Bureaucracy and Hereditary Rule. Our scientists are currently researching Metal Casting.

Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 01:12 AM While you were successful in taking a city and there were no losses, your declaration of vendetta was rather pre-emptive. In the future, please run such a drastic move through the Gaian council (other players) first.
Now, I suppose we want to build the Weather Paradigm (Hagia Sophia) soon, eh?
Flooding the English with Polytheistic believers seems to be a good move at the moment.
I don't think we will need to renew the horses deal anyway since wemay be able to take some from Mansa/Morgan.
My turn, so I'll pick-up in six hours.
Scowler Sep 27, 2006, 01:28 AM While you were successful in taking a city and there were no losses, your declaration of vendetta was rather pre-emptive. In the future, please run such a drastic move through the Gaian council (other players) first.
I'm sorry; I got the impression that this was our intended course of action:
We are now accumulating somewhat of an army near Memory of Earth and should be able to attack MM if we wish.
In my defense, he had already stated that "We will never trade with you, our worst enemy!", and looked like he might be gearing up to go to war with us. I just wanted him hamstrung before he got his hands on cats or some other advanced weapons tech. But yes, I could have stopped after 10 turns and waited for a consensus...
And yes, once the borders of Djenne expand we will have our own supply of horses. And we probably ought to build some spearmen as Toku has horse archers of his own.
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 05:46 AM Oh I see. You have a point then. Cosmichail implicitly agreed to the war, which is fine anyway!
Playing now.
FuRRie Sep 27, 2006, 06:10 AM Moeha, I finally managed to get on the forums (have been pretty buzy)
we seem to be going very good :)
Good luck on your turns Robo
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 07:30 AM Turn 0:
I just realized that Liz founded Taoism. There seems to be no turning back to Polytheism then. Must there always be war? Is war our destiny? Can't we all be friends? Ask them why the ship blew up, and they'll blame us... or anyone else.
I didn't realize we had this many loyal soldiers... it seems so sudden. As if they just popped out of cloning vats. Colonel Santiago would be proud... if only she were here.
Initially I was confused as to what cities we were referring to, but then I remembered that, (in another lifetime) leaders were fond of renaming captured cities! I would do the same, except that I have forgotten the appropriate city names... so I'm glad the other members of the Gaian Council were helping rename cities.
Anyway, an enemy Chariot was approaching Chiron, so I move the Axes out of the way.
(:smoke: WHOOPS, forgot this was Vanilla and Chariots have no vs. Axeman bonus)
END TURN!
Turn 1:
Chariot approaches Chiron but made a fatal mistake of climbing up a hill. The horse was afraid to get off and becomes processed fresh meat. The rider meets the same fate.
During the interim, Djenne was attacked by a Morganite Axeman and Chariot. The enemy Axeman fell but the Chariot fled to a hill which was protected by a Morganite skirmisher.
Construction begins on a road from Djenne to Gaia's Landing.
Turn 2:
Elizabeth demands us to disclose our knowledge of Civil Service, threatening UN sanctions. I'm sorry, but those secrets are confidential, so I encouraged her make good on those "UN sanctions".
During the interim, Djenne was attacked by a group of Skirmishers, who were promptly impaled by our War Chariots.
Turn 3:
Elizabeth (YOU AGAIN!?) offers the unacceptable trade of silk for copper.
Gaia's Landing: Swordsman -> Market
Memory of Earth: Axeman -> Courthouse
Memory of Earth was suffering from Drone Riots, but what can we do?
Weakened enemy Chariot on a hill was eliminated by our own War Chariot. Djenne is safe, for now.
Turn 4:
Chiron: Swordsman -> Catapult
Djenne: -> Archer
Drone Riots at Gaia's Landing. However, a sugar plantation is under construction; it will finish in five turns.
In the interim, a Horse Archer has eliminated a War Chariot. Swift justice was dealt in the next turn.
Turn 5:
Djenne was starving from Drone Riots. Deirdre authorized whipping three units of citizens for an immediate Catapult.
Our forces advance towards the... lightly defended Morganite capital of Timbuktu...
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7271/rk261kk4.jpg
Turn 6:
Morganite Horse Archer appears.
Begin bombardment of Timbuktu.
Seeing as Morganite Horse Archers were a big problem, I have decided to temporarily cut off their supply.
Turn 7:
Research: Metal Casting -> Machinery, I presume, for maces?
Djenne: Archer -> Catapult
Horse Archer approaches Djenne, don't we have any Spearmen?
IBT: Swordsman dies to Horse Archer, a War Chariot soon captures and executes the murderers.
Turn 8:
We have received word, that a secret project, "The Merchant Exchange" (Colossus) has been built in a faraway land.
Our forces converge on Timbuktu. There is no further resistance.
Turn 9:
Mindworm Pass: Granary -> Courthouse
All of the fortifications in Timbuktu have been reduced to a smoldering heap. With Timbuktu surrounded, the attack will commence next turn!
Turn 10:
Autumn Grove: Catapult -> Market
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8320/rk262mf7.jpg
Our forces prepare for the assault on Timbuktu...
Catapult withdraws from Skirmisher
Catapult withdraws from Skirmisher... again! :D
Catapult is destroyed by Skirmisher
Swordsman defeats Skirmisher
Catapult defeats Skirmisher
Axeman defeats Spearman
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3005/rk263iu9.jpg
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2627/rk264cs6.jpg
The Morganites never stood a chance.
Let's see... since we are losing money from the campaign against the Morganites, perhaps we might be able to sue for peace. I haven't done that yet, so Furrie may try to extort a tech from Mansa. And if peace if boring, no fret, you may finish off the Chinese.
:ar15:
In addition, we have two extra Axemen near the English border "just in case" their "UN sanctions" are on the way.
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8027/rk265hh8.jpg
I don't think we should build any more troops. We already have a HORDE and any more would not only be overkill, it... er, would divert money from the our efforts of environmental conservation.
THE SAVE:
FuRRie Sep 27, 2006, 08:00 AM Got the game, will play in 1-2 hours.
Good turnset Robo.
I'll try to make peace with Mansa and take out the Chinese.
Resistance is Futile :p
FuRRie Sep 27, 2006, 09:00 AM Eventfull turns, which worked out very good ^^.
Pre: Make peace with Mansa for HBR
T1: Mem. Of Earth: Courthouse -> Forge
T2: Invade Mao
We get a GS, I bulb Paper with him :)
T3: Woops, Guangzhou has 9 Defenders in it :crazyeye:
T4: Kill 2 Axes, losing only 1 Chariot
T5: Gaia's Landing: Market -> Chariot
Chiron: Cat -> Barracks
T6: Timbuktu: Temple (I whip it...)
Take Guangzhou losing only 1 cat (and it was a Suicide cat anyway)
Rename the city River Haven
Mao is dead now, he has been arrested and taken for interrogation.
T7: Gaia's landing: Chariot -> Cat
Timbuktu: Temple -> Barracks
Elizabeth has Lbows ()
T8: River Haven has really high Pressure from the Japanese, but we should be allright.
Theology + Meditation for Paper with Izzy
I make Izzy convert to Hinduism for 310 Gold, it takes some pressure of our relationsship, she still doenst want to trade WM's damned!
T9: Shuffle troops
T10: Invade Mansa near both hos his cities, Gao has about 7 defenders, the other city isn't visible yet.
Ideas/....
1. Take out Mansa (this should be easy and done in 10-15 turns)
2. Take out Toku, he doenst have too many troops, so also an easy target
3. Take out Izzy, she has Lbows so that might pose a problem
4. Get out civ healthy financial-wise
5. Start exploring the seas?
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 09:30 AM Wow that was fast.
(opens save)
We should probably give away the city we took from Mao since it's costing us and it's gonna flip to Japan anyway.
Waitaminute... you got a GS and you lightbulbed Paper? Do we have an Academy at the capital yet? :nono: So I guess we're now in a Liberalism push?
Since that's done and done, I propose rebuilding economy, plus pushing to Liberalism, then Optics, then hopefully trade for Guilds and Banking from a foreign civ.
Also there's a large stack of Japanese troops near Beijing.
Roster:
1. RK
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson (up for 10)
4. Cosmichail (maybe up for 10... soon)
5. Scowler
FuRRie Sep 27, 2006, 11:21 AM yeah I bulbed without Academy, because I wanted to get a WM asap :) (which kinda failed :o)
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 11:40 AM Hmm... I doubt they have Caravels anyway. :D
This is Fractal right? Why then... are we isolated as if it was a continents map?
Ralph_Jackson Sep 27, 2006, 12:45 PM Ok Got it will post a plan /analysis tonight (for :smoke: detection purposes) and play and post tomorrow.
Cheers
Ralph
Ralph_Jackson Sep 27, 2006, 02:37 PM Ok quick plan as I see it.
Economically we are fine but need to keep an eye on it as we have the largest Empire we should pull slowly ahead
Research
Machinery - Then Optics , get out and explore makes sense to me but we need to consider Compass whose Harbours do leverage very well with the G Lighthouse and would boost our economy.
A tech trade for Philosophy with Vicky would help us keep on track for Liberalism, if we see Vicky get Paper it might be in danger
Builds
Memory of Earth is a classic Heroic Epic city, might as well build it right now
Gaiai's Landing plus National Epic will leverage its scientists very well, may add in scientists to our two free to push for an Early Academy, though the next 2 GS will lightbulb Education and onto liberalism which is an alternative if we think we are racing Vicky.
Other than that just some standard infrastructure builds with a commerce emphasis
War,
We should easily finish Mansa's next two cities in the turnset and our Unit Upkeep wont mind us saccing most of our Catapults which we will need to do against his skirmishers.
River Haven I am inclined to try and keep, if we wipe out Mansa it will take along time for Toku culture to cause a flip and if we concentrate on culture builds we should keep it without too much of a commerce hit and if we win the culture war it could be a nice city...
Comments most welcome..
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 06:50 PM Culture builds eh? We can try, but:
#1, we don't have Drama
#2, we don't have Music
#3, it doesn't have a courthouse yet
I don't see how we can "win" it. I still think we should save money by giving it away. It may not be a productive city anyway, what with Japan owning a couple of its tiles.
Scowler Sep 27, 2006, 07:23 PM Culture builds eh? We can try, but:
#1, we don't have Drama
#2, we don't have Music
#3, it doesn't have a courthouse yet
But it comes with an Academy (+4); we are Creative (+2); we are Spiritual (we can easily switch to Caste System and hire an artist or two, depending on how much food is available). I think the Academy alone makes it worthwhile trying to keep. If it really does look like a money pit we can hand it back later, but let's try first? ;)
Robo Kai Sep 27, 2006, 08:00 PM Hmmm it has an ACADEMY!!!
Ok, I didn't realize that, keep it.
Cosmichail Sep 27, 2006, 09:33 PM I like that too Academy which will give us the culture needed. Checked out your warlords new game and am curious but never have played OCC before. I am regular monarch player and have won at Emperor.
Would like to do a warlords but will lurk on your OCC and learn about it.
Robo Kai Sep 28, 2006, 10:32 AM Sure you may lurk when I start it.
Anyway...
Roster:
1. RK
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
4. Cosmichail (10 and he should be playing now)
5. Scowler (10 turn on the pod bay)
Cosmichail Sep 28, 2006, 11:27 AM Just finished a game and am off today so will get to this one. So this I "I got it" will play now and post today.
Cosmichail Sep 28, 2006, 11:40 AM Robo I am confused.
Ralph hasn't played yet and posted a got it on Sept. 27. Are we skipping him?
I won't play until I see your response. I think Ralph probably still just has to post his turn??
Ralph_Jackson Sep 28, 2006, 12:00 PM Sure you may lurk when I start it.
Anyway...
Roster:
1. RK
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
4. Cosmichail (10 and he should be playing now)
5. Scowler (10 turn on the pod bay)
Robo Kai having confused Cosmicail with this post you need to spend some time in Deirdre's interrogation facilities to ensure you are not a closet Morganite spy..... Of course that could be quite fun.......
So on to the report
Pre Turn
Toku has a nasty stack that potentially has invasion force written on it so I divert a couple of spare defenders
up to Memory of Earth just in case.
Memory of Earth to Heroic Epic, queue up National Epic in Gaia’s Landing as discussed.
Djenne to Market for commerce
For some reason our worker is building a farm no city can use?? Pure :smoke:
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/smoke.jpg
Note we have only one medic promotions and try and remember this for the next available promotion as they are always useful
Turn 1 Well my carefully laid plans survive one turn as usual as Toku declares… As he is heavy on Horse Archers I start a few Spearmen.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/3tokuwar.jpg
Decide we can still take Gao but need the forces designated for Mansa’s Eastern city for defence against Toku
so send Cats and Chariots who aren’t suited for defending down towards Gao keeping the Axes for defence.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/3riverhavdefence.jpg
Turn 2 Machinery in start on Compass but dial down the research rate for Mace upgrading purposes.
Turn 3 Toku simultaneously attacks Memory of Earth and lines up troops at River Haven. Wed desperately need
the spearmen that are being built as Axes don’t stand up well attacking Horse Archers and they are doing some serious pillaging….
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/3pillaging.jpg
Turn 4 Gaos defences start dropping..
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/3gaoattack.jpg
Turn 5 Japanese revolt start in River Haven, maybe I should have given it away but now I am determined to keep
it just to get my own back on Toku,,
Turn 6 Gao Falls
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/Ralph_Jackson/3gaofalls.jpg
Turn 7 Start healing Gao’s assault force with a view to moving them back to river Haven to either finish off Mansa
or take the battle to Toku, next players choice.
Turn 8 our Spearmen are now pushing back the pillaging Horse Archers, next player will need to rearrange our workers
and rebuild some improvements, at the moment workers are largely holed up in cities
Turn 9-10 We have killed off all of the Attackers at Memory of Earth and only a Horse Archer is left at River Haven
though at times it was tighter than comes across in the report. Mansa also has a Horse Archer near River Haven
but Spearmen are on their way to deal with him. Gao’s Forces are moving back up towards River Haven
Suggested plan
Use forces in East to take out Mansa’ city(s) we have a lot of Axemen and chariots + cats are on their way.
Build a few cats and macemen to take revenge on Toku and try and get a tech for peace out of him. Mansa doesn’t
have anything worthwhile or I would have taken a peace treaty for a tech.
Unfortunately all this war has not allowed me to build our economy one iota!!
We desperately need a navy to protect fishing nets all taken down by Toku’s Galleys…
Compass in 6
Robo Kai Sep 28, 2006, 06:02 PM I have spent some time in said interrogation facilities and you are right I am a confused little player. Unfortunately, since you played your turn, the roster I have posted is now correct. Don't worry, CH hasn't played yet.
Ouch. Good work handling the rather sudden war against Toku. Former Beijing was pillaged hard but it shouldn't take forever to bring it back.
Cosmichail Sep 28, 2006, 10:34 PM It was Planets 1040 year in the new millennium. The battle raged on between the Morganites and Yang clans. Both soldiers stationed at Kumba Saleh were taken out by Horse Archers. Waiting for reinforcements Yang continuously attack RiverHaven with horses and gradually losing an axe or two there. Our forces did meet together just outside of Timbuktu to head for Kumba Saleh however was disrupted by Yang’s horses again but managed to get a small force there. They too were heavy hit by horse archers and had to retreat. MM is putting up a fight and has a number of Horse archers which are diminishing fortunately.
At the same time several Horse archers arrived at Memory of Earth which was recovering from a recent attack. Both spears were successful in removing them and gaining some promotions.
Gradually several Maces made their way to outside of Satsuma and nearing Riverhaven to aid with small stack which did waste it self on the good defense in RiverHaven now.
We also received a request from Lizzy (who is she again??) Sister Miriam I think. She would like to receive alphabet for free. How quaint thought Deirdre, ok if you’ll give me London I will give you this technology. Sister Miriam shut off the viewer in disgust.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0570.jpg
Eventually we managed to get somewhat of a force to Kumba Saleh mostly cats couple of War Chariot, and axes. They too are slaughtered by an onslaught of Horse Archers again and axes. What remains is a war chariot and sword (injured badly). The cats were damaged but would heal quickly. I look in the city and see that they are substantially injured and realize that I have enough cats to take it out maybe. First cat goes (CRIII) and wins by 70%, second cat goes (CRII) and wins too at 78% up against axe. Next cat does the same, until the last cat and take the city. Voila Cats took Kumba Saleh and now are all very badly injured. If we are attacked there they are history for sure.
And that’s the end of THE MORGANITES……..the polluters ARGH
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0571.jpg
This now allows us to focus on Yang and I say no mercy here continue until he’s finished. We can now start on Satsuma as his attacks are beginning to diminish. The cats are safe and in RiverHaven to perform once again as before. Watch for the CRIII one if there’s an easy kill use it so we get him another promotion. We did loose a mace and I have to admit I never looked at the civics but was thinking about theocracy. I like it with CR2 much better than starting with one.
Datalinks (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/90198/Deirdre_Skye_AD-1148.Civ4SavedGame)
Robo Kai Sep 29, 2006, 12:50 AM Actually the old Yang (Mao Zed) is dead, so Toku is the new Yang? No no no we should call him Yang Jr. now!
Roster:
1. RK (watching fungus grow while waiting for his 10 turns)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
4. Cosmichail
5. Scowler (10 turns to carve the Gaians a place on the Monument of Planet)
Scowler Sep 29, 2006, 12:55 AM Will possibly play tonight, but more likely tomorrow...
Robo Kai Sep 29, 2006, 01:04 AM Yeah, it's your turn in 2 other SG's :hatsoff:
Scowler Sep 30, 2006, 02:03 AM Yikes, that was an eventful turnset...!
I'll have the report up in a couple of hours - after my heart rate has slowed a bit... ;)
Scowler Sep 30, 2006, 04:06 AM (0) 1148AD
- Some remedial work needed in various bases. Autumn Grove is a stinky place unfit for the presence of Lady Dierdre. Perhaps if the inhabitants are given less food they will produce less excrement...
- We are mostly producing units at the moment, and a couple of cities are under cultural pressure (plus Kumbi will come out of resistance next turn and require another border pop ASAP to access the horses and cows), so we revolt to Caste System and Theocracy.
- We are losing money so I trade our spare Incense for 5gpt. I am becoming more and more convinced that "Elizabeth" is truly our old adversary, Sister Miriam: the shameless red hair, the cruel smirk...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4627/civilization42006093005432029jo4.jpg
(1) 1154AD
- M of E: mace -> mace
- Artist hired at Kumbi; crossbow started (we really need a courthouse, but defense takes priority at the moment).
(2) 1160AD
- The galley defending our fishes has encountered the enemy! If it does nothing it will surely die next turn, but there is a slight chance it can kill the galley carrying Toku's settler. It is worth the risk. Fingers crossed, we pray to Gaia...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4629/civilization42006093006095796bx9.jpg
...and Gaia has smiled upon us: the waters take the enemy galley, along with Toku's settler and archer. The victorious galley retreats to Mindworm Pass to heal.
(3) 1166AD
- We are now the largest faction on Chiron. What is worrying is that according to rumour there are five other factions that we have not yet met! We must get out and explore the oceans...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7628/civilization42006093006203971gk1.jpg
- Aargh! We lose a worker to a horse archer that I thought was out of range :smoke:
The offending HA is killed by a spearman, and for revenge I snatch one of Toku's workers that he carelessly left undefended:
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2505/civilization42006093006330693ga8.jpg
- Irked by this nuisance I check with Miriam to see whether there is any chance of her attacking Toku. "Alas no", she replies, "We have enough on our hands right now." Uh-oh! Better start reconfiguring our cities for defense...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6358/civilization42006093006355323ja1.jpg
(4) 1172AD
- Disaster! Sure enough, the treacherous Miriam has declared war on us!!! What is worse, Gao has revolted once more and joined her faction!
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9343/civilization42006093006370292bg1.jpg
Fortunately, there is no sign of any enemy troops so far. I'm sure that won't last!
- We have to wait another turn before we can change civics; then I will switch back to Slavery and whip defenses where necessary. Meanwhile, Gaia's Landing has only two warriors guarding the base so I switch production to a mace - the Nat Epic can wait for a few turns. We should probably also wind up our war with Toku: no point in trying to wage war on two fronts. But I'd like to grab Satsuma first...
(5) 1178AD
- Still no sign of Miriam's forces...
- Civic change to Slavery (thank Gaia we are Spiritual...)
- Mace whipped at Autumn Grove (which also solves the health problems)
- Mace whipped at Djenne
- Mace whipped at Timbuktu
(6) 1184AD
- At last, we catch sight of Miriam's advance party; a surprisingly small taskforce
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7153/civilization42006093007093489yn4.jpg
- Timbuktu: mace -> crossbow
- AG: mace -> spear
Battle of Satsuma:
- Cat kills archer
- Cat does collateral damage and withdraws
- Cat killed by axe
- Cat kills horse archer
- Mace kills archer
- CRIII axe kills cat and catures Satsuma. The city comes with a courthouse and forge, so we fortunately won't suffer the full cost of maintenance. Best of all, we caught four workers inside the city! I decided to keep the base as it has reasonable food, and will eventually have iron in the BFG. In an ideal world I would have disconnected the iron before signing a peace treaty, but we cannot spare any more time on Toku, and he is sending cats, horse archers, and crossbows into the region, as well as attempting to pillage with a sword.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6973/civilization42006093007152935ta3.jpg
Now that I've achieved my objective of taking Satsuma I agree to peace with Toku. He doesn't have any tech to offer us, but at the moment the extra money will come in useful.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9829/civilization42006093007170134nf2.jpg
(7) 1190AD
- Optics -> Feudalism
- Great Scientist born at Gaia's Landing, so I use him to build an Academy.
(8) 1196AD
- Crossbow whipped at Djenne
(9) 1202AD
Miriam's forces have finally arrived so...
- Crossbow kills enemy mace
- Mace kills longbow that is threatening to disconnect bananas.
Threat eliminated!
(10) 1208AD
- Gaia's Landing: mace -> National Epic (since there are no english troops in the area)
P.S. A.G. is currently building a caravel, so this could be used to either explore or pillage as desired.
So, I've ended the war with Toku and started building up our defenses in the south. Our power rating has climbed and we will soon have reached Miriam's level - and then she can be made to pay for her crimes. Nothing personal, but the planet isn't big enough for both of us!

FuRRie Sep 30, 2006, 04:38 AM Good turns Scow.
The japanese thread has been taken down.
Maybe weaken Izzy and sue for peace as well, then take out Toku and Izzy and make the great voyage to the new world.
RK up for 10
I'm on deck :)
Robo Kai Sep 30, 2006, 07:28 AM I'll play in 2-3 hours.
FuRRie Sep 30, 2006, 07:57 AM Awaits impatiently untill I can play :D
(Good luck btw RK)
Robo Kai Sep 30, 2006, 08:52 AM Why do we hate Miriam... hmm... did she just declare war..? It won't likely be on Yang Jr. though... stay tuned!
Robo Kai Sep 30, 2006, 10:31 AM Turn 0:
Excellent... we're on the way to Feudalism... for Guilds and Banking maybe?
We have no trading partners right now... and the world is lonely. Where is that Promised Land (other continent)? We'll find out soon, perhaps?
END TURN!
Turn 1:
Shuffle troops around since I need some troops from the northern border to deal with Miriam.
Looks like a Horse Archer is coming to pillage the "useless farm". Maceman moves to deal with it and prevent one of our towns from getting pillaged.
http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/5677/rk2700hq1.jpg
Turn 2:
Satsuma comes out of revolt, and is going to starve anyway so I whip a War Chariot for "defense".Memory of Earth seems to be a pillage hotspot; I begin roading up all tiles near it, to both to slow down the enemy and for faster response from our troops.
Warwick seems to be a good first target, so I move some of the troops I grabbed from the north. I form a task force of a Mace, 3 cats and an Axe.
Turn 3:
We have established contact with a certain Catherine of Russia via her Caravel; I immediately check what trades are available...
http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/8738/rk2701oe9.jpg
Nah. Paper for Feudalism would've been OK to have it faster.
Her people seem to be worshipping an alien faith.
Kumbi Saleh: Crossbow -> Courthouse
Satsuma: Chariot -> Maceman
Turn 4:
Gaia's Landing: National Epic -> Maceman
Memory of Earth: Maceman -> Harbor
Mindworm Pass: Maceman -> Harbor
I decomission some outdated Warriors to save money (netting us +3 gpt)
Move some Archers around from Chiron to our non-border cities.
Move some Axemen around from Chiron to our border cities.

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/4152/rk2705sp9.jpg
Turn 8:

http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/1353/rk2707ng9.jpg

Bomb Warwick to 0%.
Move into Gao and Warwick
Turn 9:
Djenne: Spearman -> Courthouse
Move Spearman to guard horses
WARWICK
Catapult retreats from Longbow
Catapult dies from Longbow
Maceman with CRII defeats Crossbow at 40% yeah!!!
Maceman beats Longbow
Maceman beats Longbow
Maceman beats Longbow
Catapult left, leave it for next turn
GAO
Gao looks bad, 4 longbows and we have a single City Raider Maceman there.
Sorry, pull back troops to save money. :(
Turn 10:
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/4186/rk2708zk4.jpg
Miriam appears on the comms screen and attempts to negotiate a ceasefire for 250 gold. Never! Now, it is not you, but the Gaians who will lay the UN Sanctions! (Until you perhaps decide to give up some of your confidential files on Doctrine: Philosophy, that is.)
Memory of Earth: Harbor -> Market
Timbuktu: Maceman -> Courthouse
WARWICK
Axeman finishes off Catapult and we move in..!
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/6032/rk2710qv5.jpg
END TURN!
Some of our domestic secretaries note that Chiron needs more food to grow, so this plan for irrigation will hopefully be favorably enacted by any other Council Members who will run the Gaian Empire.
http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/9913/rk2711tw2.jpg
In other news, The Pioneer has been launched! We have discovered a new landmass and will be exploring it shortly. However, a ship owned by Captain Svensgaard of the Nautilus Pirates has been spotted. Destroy or ignore at your own discretion. Remember, discovering new land is a priority and losing The Pioneer may jeopardize our endeavors.
http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/4118/rk2712iz2.jpg
Also, and this is important, although a screenshot has not been enclosed. MIRIAM (Elizabeth) HAS PAPER! Which means she's on her way to Liberalism!
(Well, Cathy doesn't have Paper yet. Cathy... Cathy... should we start calling her "Santiago" or should we wait to see if Isabella is on the map? Oh wait, Cathy is in a military outfit. Yes.)
Any and all information recorded so far can now be downloaded from the Datalinks...
FuRRie Sep 30, 2006, 01:23 PM I have recieved the Datalinks and uploaded them to my PC :D.

Robo Kai Sep 30, 2006, 09:05 PM Allright, my turns went good, but a big suprise in the end !!
T9: Toku declares
Not really a surprise. We had always been prepared for him. That's why we always had lots of troops on all cities on the Japanese border.
As for our economy, Guilds and Banking will soon fix our problem, so no big deal.
Roster:
1. RK
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson (ready to lay 10 turns worth of UN Sanctions on Japan)
4. Cosmichail (10 turn on the pod bay)
5. Scowler
Ralph_Jackson Oct 01, 2006, 06:35 AM Ok got it will play / post by Moday evening.
Ralph
Robo Kai Oct 01, 2006, 08:33 PM Oh yeah, don't forget: this is a Large map. After we secure our continent (thus eliminating 4), there could be up to 6 more civs...
EDIT: Yeaaah, I know even Alien Crossfire only supported only exactly 7 civs, which sucks! :D That's why I never played large maps in that game.
Yep this is a bump. Monday evening... say, I'm +800 GMT, I've been wondering about the timezones of the other members of the Gaian Council...
Cosmichail Oct 01, 2006, 08:45 PM Eastern daylight saving -5 GMT
Also Dark time zone on Korriban
FuRRie Oct 02, 2006, 04:59 AM 12.00 PM here (monday)

Good morning :p
Scowler Oct 02, 2006, 05:31 AM GMT +1 for a couple more weeks, then back to GMT +0. So, an hour behind FuRRie, but waking up around 5 hours ahead... :p
FuRRie Oct 02, 2006, 06:29 AM well i'm CET and Scowler is GMT so we are just an hour apart indeed :)
Ralph_Jackson Oct 02, 2006, 02:12 PM I am in the UK so on GMT...

1328 AD Pioneer kills off Barb Galley but needs to heal before continuing to explore, otherwise forces moving towards the northern front with Toku

1352 AD See above
1358 Great Scientist born, as I can see nowhere worthy of an Academy and he looks better place to light bulb Education I put him to sleep in our capital for the team to decide

Cosmichail Oct 02, 2006, 03:39 PM I see that I am up and can play later today. SO this is "I got it".
Cosmichail Oct 02, 2006, 05:49 PM The war rages on with Yang Jr. to his demise and to our gain. Deirdre realizing that two front war wasn’t good had settled for peace with sister Miriam but would remember her treachery. After Yang Jr., she was the last remaining faction left on Gaia’s landmass. This of course was going to have to change in the near future but for now Yang Jr. would soon see the end of his Empire. Although he manages to take out two of our maces out in the open in Kyoto we muster enough troops to the city to take it. Our advance is now on Osaka and being a holy city may benefit us considerably.
Turn 1
Finish guilds start Drama to aid in happy problems from war.
Bombard Nara
Troop Deployment
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0575.jpg
Turn 2
Loose 4 cats at Nara
Take out 3 lbm’s, one sword
Roosevelt wants to share world maps so I oblige.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0576.jpg
Turn 3
Timbuktu start a forge.
Take out archer, pike, HA at Nara and raze it to the ground. Useless city even the name (inside joke with Bobrath VQ) indicates that. Just a drain on our purse if we take it.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0577.jpg
Turn 4
Move Caravels
GS having a nice snooze. We might want to lightbulb it for Education.
Everybody is annoyed with us except for Roosevelt.
Move troops to Kyoto (and put the few there back in defensive ground as Yang Jr. sending longbowmen our way and took out a mace)
Turn 5
Bombard Kyoto
Troop deployment
Workers looking for work………. Oh dear it’s a recession
That Deirdre always warring……..
We discover Drama that ought to quiet those Drones. We need talents Deirdre many, many talents.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0579.jpg
Turn 6
Bad news two HA’s take out crossbow at Riverhaven and take it.
Good news we take Kyoto after loosing 2 cats.
Liz would like Guilds as well as Isabella. Deirdre shouts on the communicator “why don’t you go sleep with the snakes in the Monsoon jungle”. Can you imagine expecting us to give away such technology to that lot? ARGH!!!!!!
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0580.jpg
Turn 7
Ok Deirdre has enough of those whining drones. Ok implement the nerve stapling of the most defiant immediately shouted Deirdre. Yes my lady we shall do so immediately but could we please wait until we build a few Rec centers to see if that will quiet the drones. Ok said Deirdre but I will not tolerant their insolence much longer.
Whip a theatre in Tokyo.
We take RiverHaven back from Yang Jr. (sneaky snake)
Whip theatre in Gaia’s Landing/Timbuktu. (getting really restless there)
Turn 8
Liz approaches us again with an offer that is very difficult to reject. Engineering for Guilds which would speed up our movement and give us pikes. Against better judgment I decide to take for want of Engineering and the faster movement.
Tokyo starts a Jewish temple.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0582.jpg
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0584.jpg
Turn 9
Rename the following cities:
Tokyo ---- Fungus Alley
KumbaS – Mountain Grove
Satsuma – ForestHill
Couldn’t think of anymore so there are a few more cities that aren’t quite with the theme.
Turn 10
Chiron finishes theatre starts a forge
Autumn Grove starts a temple (unhappy still)
Memory of Earth starts a caravel to deal with marauding Japanese Galleys
Gao starts a forge
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g240/cosmichail/Civ4ScreenShot0585.jpg
Yang Jr. doesn’t have anything to offer so we should just get him off our landmass and leave him that little island or builds a few ships and raze it.
We have a good sized force at Osaka which should be able to take it after bombard.
Good luck protectors of the Environment.
Datalinks (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/90198/Deirdre_Skye_AD-1448.Civ4SavedGame)
Cosmichail Oct 02, 2006, 05:57 PM Roster of the TREE HUGGERS
1. RK -- Protector of the Earth -- on deck
2. Furrie -- Ben jij Flams of Francais??
3. Ralph_Jackson -- UN sanctions worked quite well...
4. Cosmichail -- Kyoto accord now in the hands of responsible Gaians
5. Scowler -- UP again and in VQ08 DOH DOH
Robo Kai Oct 02, 2006, 06:31 PM Well, I know Engineering is hard to resist but you just essentially gave the English some knights... we have neighbors abroad you know who could... "benefit better" from Guilds... :D
Anyhow, WDID, so is there any chance we can stir a war on the other continent? Preferably after converting some potential allies.
Cosmichail Oct 02, 2006, 07:59 PM Liz tends not to build much of an army usually so I am not worried should she have a few knights about. We have pikes now to counter and the other AI's are all annoyed with us and wouldn't trade. I felt since we were slowing in science Engineering would help a lot with the war.
FuRRie Oct 03, 2006, 01:07 AM Cosmichail, i'm of the flemish (Dutch) part of Belgium ;)
Scowler Oct 03, 2006, 06:15 AM Got it!
*prepares to lay another round of "U.N. sanctions" on the Hive*
Scowler Oct 03, 2006, 10:35 AM (0) 1448AD
Time to rename some of our conquests!
Kyoto -> Vale of Winds
York -> Lucky Autumn
Warwick -> Forest Primeval
Djenne -> Fallow Time
Timbuktu -> Virgin Soil
Gao -> Zephyr's Touch
And now for a look at the state of Gaian society today:
- Yikes, we are down to 20% science... we'd better do some work on the economy once the war is over!
- Change Forge at Chiron -> longbow (defense is more urgent)
- Change Market at Fallow Time -> Hindu Temple (suffering badly from war weariness, and the temple will give us quick money and happiness, whereas the market will give us just money some time later)
- Change Courthouse at Forest Primeval -> Theatre (city is under severe cultural pressure)
- Change Forge at Zephyr's Touch -> Courthouse (currently -7 maintenance!)
Foreign Policy:
- Dial up FDR and get map +20g in exchange for map
- Open borders with Catherine (who apparently has enough on her hands...)
(1) 1454AD
- FDR asks for Civil Service. In your dreams, buster. For some reason, this makes him annoyed...
- River Haven: Theatre -> Courthouse (-8 maintenance!)
- I start directing our caravels to complete the circumnavigation, only to notice six turns later that Catherine has long since snatched it from us. :(
(2) 1460AD
- Memory of Earth: Caravel -> Hindu Temple
- Lucky Autumn: Crossbow -> Walls (the city is worryingly close to the English border)
- Izzy completes Spiral Minaret
- One of our caravels kills a Hive galley blockading Memory of Earth
Battle of Osaka (Jewish Holy City):
- cat causes collateral damage and dies
- cat causes collateral damage and withdraws
- cat causes collateral damage and dies
- mace is killed by longbow
- mace kills longbow
- mace kills longbow
- mace kills pike
- mace kills pike
- mace kills cat
http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/9186/civilization42006100313222406qa1.jpg
Osaka is captured and we get a free worker. The city comes with a lighthouse, a forge, ... and the Colossus! Unfortunately, it has no shrine. :(
