Hello Fanatics...

I have a simple question; when creating a custom game, what is the difference betweeen the two resource options, Standard and Balanced?

I'm guessing 'Standard' is the usual way the resources are... clumped up in areas (especially those darn plantation ones) so Civs can have somewhat of a monopoly on a certain resource and promotes trading.

I'm also guessing 'Balanced' spreads out all the resources so everybody has a little of everything if they have a decent chunk of territory.

Anybody positively know the correct answer?

Thanks

Hmm... I feel lonely, I guess I answered my own question then. :p

Then a new question: which do you all prefer and why?

I usually play standard resources... because I like everything to be the "standard" way of playing (if there can ever be one). But I have yet to try a game with balanced.

A problem I have seen numerous times on standard is that you get to 2000 AD, and you have no Aluminum or Uranium. I think supposedly the idea was to force you to trade with other civs for it, but it never works out that way.

Either they hate you, or more often, they simply don't have it to trade.

Balanced supposedly makes it so every continent has balanced resources.

I prefer Standard resources because I believe it adds to the strategic element of the game.

Ive never tried balanced as I like the idea of possibly having to scramble in techs or conquest to get what I need- or quicly skip over what I dont have- in my games.

Though I do admit there has been a few islands games that I bowed out of for not having iron. Not as many as the games I bowed out of in civ3 after finding out I didnt have saltpeter though.
