This forum was designed so that this mod can go faster, be better, and to have it more organized.
I'm really excited about this mod and I hope that it will be a great mod once it gets to its final version.
I really appreciate every idea you give and even though I may not accept them I still am glad you contributed!
Anyway, Let's get started and make the Star Wars Mod a great mod for Sid Meier's Civilization 4!

DET er jo lidt stenern xD men jeg tror bare jeg vil modellere og animere.
umiddelbart vil jeg sige at det er et fedt mod, men der er ALT for mange ting og sger som gør det samme LIGE ved siden af hindanen... ALT for uoverskueligt: men selfølgelig har CivManSam sagt at dt bliver reguleret senere :D

These are a few areas i would have, but its just me.

Unfortunately, Woodelf promised me 1½ month ago that he'd send some important files I need before I can do anything 'productive', but after I've send like 8 pm's over almost 2 months I haven't recieved any files yet.. :/ and what annoys me is that those files are EASY to get and send, and that also bugs me a ton. He seems to be ignoring me now - lol :p So what you all can do instead would be to simply PM Woodelf and remind him of sending me those files, hehe
I know Woodelf is a busy fellow, and I've got no hard feelings: I'm just getting a bit impatient :)
The faster I recieve those files the faster we can update... ;)

but seriously, I'm gonna finish alot of projects here in the following weeks, and will start on a bigger one, so I'd appreciate to get the files soon...
But of course, if anyone's got 3ds Studio Max or Maya and is willing to send me the files it'd be REALLY appreciated :p All I need is in short: a unit or two along with the skeleton. Maybe even an animation as well if possible. Also a vehicle such as a tank and/or an 'improvement' building.
All of it sent in .FBX* is all I need :D

Qdin Oct 16, 2006, 03:36 PM Anyone who can import a unit into 3ds Studio Max or Maya as well as a Vehicle :) That's actually all I need to start doing my part of the mod. it's all essential for me. the most perfect would be if anyone could send it to me in .FBX* Kaydara format. That was it keeps everything :D
WoodElf don't seem to respond on anything, and havent' sent me anything in more than 2 months now... :'( So if anyone of you could get me those files it'd be awesome :D then I'll owe you a beer ;D

Qdin Nov 12, 2006, 11:09 AM What I personally would prefer would be to recreate scenarios from the movie, starting with Geonosis. With the exception that this is no developing scenario, but a battlebased one. So we could make new 'improvements' which instead would add to the 'secureness' or 'security' and 'moral' :D There won't be more but 2 factions or whatever. Therefore the reason I say a battle-based one ;) We could and can have tons of different unist with different abilities. Most of the job would probably be reskinning and adding a few more models. nonetheless I think it won't be that difficult. what instead WILL be difficult will be to decide what the possibilities are for the team(s). Maybe adding events would help? i.e. 30 rounds started LAAT's appears and lands with troops and such.
I'm still waiting to get all I need. But soon I will aid with new models :D and animations if that'll be fine ;)
Maybe I should then instead just make my own Star Wars Scenarios? :) lol - if I just had any idea of how to make a scenario... -_-'

WGW Nov 12, 2006, 02:00 PM well perhaps we could make our own scenarios and i would like to help u with that i cant make any unit's and i cant do any programming stuff but i can help u write an scenario idea. the special unit's and programming stuff needs to be done by others. tell me if ure intrested in somthing like that and i will try to make somthing in the style u like. just need some points. like the style and poseblities the scenarion can have :)

I DID manage to get a short hold of CivManSam yesterday, though. He said that he ain't gonna work on this mod for some time. Nonetheless it will mean that I will do alot of stuffs so when he gets back he's got a totally improved mod ;)
I guess I could continue with the Star Wars mod with scenarios and such like mentioned before. So if anyone think that they can help me or is interested i've got Xfire and MSN :P if not just mail me - lol.

Roland787 Jan 14, 2007, 08:15 PM im just wondering if theres any news on when this project will pick back up, (and i pray that it is). id love to help with some modeling but unfortanetly i dont know what program i should use to do so, if i have to pay for one (which would be fine aslong as its not really expensive) if anybody could just let me know what to get or do i would really appreciate it. and if i cant do that, then id help out by trying it out and giving my input.

I just know how to model and animate and all that - haha
I guess we could make some Scenarios based on the movies. This way we will get all the models and all that ready for everything until we've got enough to actually make a 'full Star Wars Mod'.
WGW is making a list, which I unfortunately haven't checked on lately, which will contain all the units/classes which were in the Battle of Geonosis. We can easily reskin, and the models themselves probably wouldn't be much of a problem either.
i currently don't have photoshop (but annoying thte parents until we get it :p)
This reminds me; Does anyone know if it's possible to get custom animations in this game..? or do we need a new skeleton - wouldn't be a problem either ;)
First i would actually only need 2 things to make a Scenario: one willing to fiddle and try out all my odd theories and a coder to help and do all the things we want :)
Remember, people - the more the better, and the more you work with something the better you'll be ;)
anyone is interested? and anyone has an idea?
P.S. I'd wonder if this is kind of 'hijacking' this forum? Considering we aren't really considered in the Star Wars Mod, but IS making a Star Wars Mod w/ Scenarios? xD

Right: that is what we are doing

most of the things aer really self explanatory, once you start sort of learning how it works. any text editor works, but the one i use is:

My teacher asked me yesterday if I was interesting in amking a game all by myself... I was like: "hmm... sure :)" Mainly because I HAVE experience with games ;)
I can easily use all the prescripts and all that ****, but to be honest, I wanna proove - at least for myself - that this hasn't been totally waste of time, so I'm thinking of trying to look into all the scripting. it'll probably be C and C++ but I also think some XML will come in too :D
so if you will send me some 'samples' of the codes before and after - lol - it would be appreciated so I can then 'follow' up abit too :)

This file is the same as the current file, I need the OLD files of Star Wars, the one that has the WOOKIE ART files and OLD ART files, thx.:rolleyes:

You could start with looking into the files there are in the Assets... I haven't got it successfully extracted either :rolleyes: but then again, I'm not gonna! :D *yay for me*

P.S. can you create a possibly liiiiiittle larger Resume/CV and/or a brief presentation? :p you might as well make it look professional so you get prepared for later in life :)
rothn May 07, 2007, 08:31 PM Here is my presentation. Just change the file extension from .txt to .ppt and open it with a power-point viewer or power-point. By the way, I made the attached power-point with Microsoft Office XP, just in case the power-point viewers aren't backwards compatible.

As far as actual unit animations, we need a file labeled (unitname)freeze.nif, (unitname)weapon.nif, (unitname)idle.kf (unitname)die.kf, and a file named (unitname)death.kf. an example with actual files would be:
archerfreeze.nif
archerarrow.nif
archeridle.kf
archerdie.kf
archerdeath.kf
--------notes----------
kf files are moving 3d animations.
nif files are stationary 3d graphics that can be created with 3ds max or Gmax.
dds files are 2d pictures with more than 1 layer.By the way, is there a higher person that I should be reporting to?

the 'stationary' files (lolz - nice description for it) Are usually reffered as a BasePose.
A thing I don't get, is whether we should have this skeleton and unit animating. That would all be good. But what about the (unitname)weapon.nif? I'm pretty sure I've read that the weapon just 'needs' to be a part of the normal mesh. So what's this for? Is it for the 'bullet' model so it knows what to shoot?
I guess it is :)
So maybe you can help me here... I've got whichever software needed to do this, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Now, do you have a tutorial or a link to one (unless you're fresh for writing a brief one yourself) on how to export your own meshes/models for this game, and probably more importantly: How to get custom skeletons exported too.

Qdin May 25, 2007, 03:07 AM I'm abit dissatisfied with that I gotta use 3dsMax... since I prefer XSI and/or Maya xD Weren't there a plug-in exporter for Maya released too? And before giving me any link or something, I just wanna know if it works as 'good' as the Max Plugin?

I've also read this odd tutorial which should work too... but I've got this annoying problem with I can't find the .max scenes which the tutorial reffers to -_-'
So basically it would be best if I work through 3ds Max with the skeletons and such? I can live with that :) will probably texture in XSI, switch with modelling in XSI and Maya and rig it up in Max - heh. (unless... I can just make the skeletons and everything in Max without thinking of putting the meshes on? Wasn't that done through the NifViewer thingy?)

rothn May 30, 2007, 05:24 PM I spent 3 hours searching, and no such thing exists. As far as your missing animation problem, that is just to make sure that nobody gets a free copy of the game, which they could with the SDK, which, by the way, was not supposed to work.

But I can't undrestand why you couldn't find this otherwise. It's in the Civ4 - Project & Mod Development forum, like other mod projects with sub-forums.

Making it so that a unit gives a bonus to strength (or a promothion, which would probably be better) to all units on the same and surrounding tile
Adding recidge
Adding levels (so that land and space are independant)
adding a unit settle mod
I just want to know what you can do, as these are the python I'd like for the finished version

Popcornlord Nov 22, 2008, 02:43 PM You can? Nice! I personally think that the unit settle religion mod (settlers carry their religion) would be most important for now. The main reason is because in the current mod, races replace religions. It doesn't make much sense for cities to be populated with droids :). I think there are some old mods that have stuff like that in them, so if it's easier to convert, I would look at some of them. Also, it would probably be a good idea to move the conversation in the modpack forum. Just easier.
