News comments generally aren't that regulated on gaming sites, so don't you think it would be apropriate to allow guests to post on the news forum?

CivGeneral Sep 26, 2006, 07:25 PM No, if they want to post, they should register if they want to make an effort to post in the news forum ;). Perfection Sep 26, 2006, 08:25 PM No, if they want to post they should put in enough bother to registerWhy? no, what extra value would that give the site? More input by those who only frequent the mainpage. How much that would be and of what quality it would be I have not the clue, but it would be interesting to find out. No, if they want to post, they should register if they want to make an effort to post in the news forum ;). Why? Irish Caesar Sep 26, 2006, 08:48 PM We have a news forum? Oh, right under SF... Is that a new thing, I mean, relatively? Perfection Sep 26, 2006, 09:59 PM We have a news forum? Oh, right under SF... Is that a new thing, I mean, relatively?Yeah, maybe a couple months old. Thunderfall Sep 26, 2006, 10:15 PM No, one reason we moved to the current system is because spammers and robots were spamming the news comments in the old system. WerBackIII Sep 29, 2006, 10:43 AM Well, if we allow guests posting in any forums, it'll be a usual thing to see post that contains pornographic, racialist or other bad "info" for us! No, No, No! TF, please don't allow this to happen! If they wanna post, they must register! azzaman333 Sep 29, 2006, 10:50 AM Wait a minute... I think I know why Perfection wants the old system back, and I think it has something to do with comment spamming. Perfection Sep 29, 2006, 01:15 PM No, one reason we moved to the current system is because spammers and robots were spamming the news comments in the old system. Well, I'd think the forum structure would take care of the bots. Well, if we allow guests posting in any forums, it'll be a usual thing to see post that contains pornographic, racialist or other bad "info" for us! That happened before? Wait a minute... I think I know why Perfection wants the old system back, and I think it has something to do with comment spamming. I was just brainstorming! Heretic_Cata Sep 30, 2006, 02:00 AM Where's the poll ? NO, of course not. I can't see 1 reason why. Plotinus Sep 30, 2006, 02:10 AM That happened before? For a brief period, guests could post comments in the File Downloads Database. When we saw what sort of comments they were posting, this ability was removed. WerBackIII Oct 19, 2006, 05:47 AM What sort of comments? Abaddon Oct 19, 2006, 05:58 AM something along the lines of UserX rules/sucks? RegentMan Oct 19, 2006, 12:36 PM Or posting, "Bananas are yummy!" in a new Civ III downloads newspage. WerBackIII Oct 23, 2006, 07:28 AM Why not? Some new like that: "Bananas are ymmy" Hi, I'm working on my new mod, called "Bananas are yummy...." I see thousands of members, waiting for vegetables fights. Anywhere, we shouldn't allow the guests to post in the newsforum. Or if we allow them, they must make something like "easy account"- an account without e-mail confirmation only for the newsforum, which they must create so we can be sure that they have read the rules. (carefuly) RegentMan Oct 24, 2006, 12:41 PM Why not? Some new like that: "Bananas are ymmy" Hi, I'm working on my new mod, called "Bananas are yummy...." I see thousands of members, waiting for vegetables fights. Simply reposting the title of a mod is still spam. Or if we allow them, they must make something like "easy account"- an account without e-mail confirmation only for the newsforum, which they must create so we can be sure that they have read the rules. (carefuly) How are you going to be sure that they read the rules carefully? Nothing's stopping them from scrolling down, checking the box, and clicking "I Agree." azzaman333 Oct 24, 2006, 07:17 PM How are you going to be sure that they read the rules carefully? Nothing's stopping them from scrolling down, checking the box, and clicking "I Agree." How many people actually read the rules before signing up? I'm pretty sure I didn't, because it didnt seem worth 10 minutes of my time just to read the standard rules of most forums. Red Door Oct 25, 2006, 05:42 PM I didn't either, but I did read them (a year later) to try and prove one moderator wrong, and of course, they were right. |
