View Full Version : Welcome!
Wyz_sub10 Sep 27, 2006, 12:48 PM Welcome to the CIV Gold mod development forum.
This forum will allow all forum members and modmakers alike to provide feedback, direction and recommendations for all things related to CIV Gold. It is also a place where creators can link to their graphics and mod components that they feel will be of use to CIV Gold.
CIV Gold is a civilizations mod for Civ4 that combines some of the most popular user-created civilizations, while applying standards for graphics and content across the board. It can be used as a standalone mod to give users more options in their games, or it can be used by mod-makers to add a “plug-and-play” civ component to their projects.
With CIV Gold we are attempting to create the “definitive” civ add-on for users and mod-makers, alike. There are some great civ combo packs out now, but none that apply universal standards across the board. This pack is meant to be focused, complete, and comprehensive.
Each new civilization in CIV Gold has:
- fully animated leaderhead(s)
- re-skinned unique units
- full graphics for buttons and unit flags
- complete pedia entries for civ, leaders and units
- representation of at least two people in the "Great People" lists
- unique "First Contact" diplomacy text based on actual quotes or cultural proverbs
Many thanks to the original authors who had included several of these components in their releases.

Head Serf Sep 27, 2006, 01:48 PM I absolutely love this mod. When will it be available for Warlords?
woodelf Sep 27, 2006, 02:34 PM Congrats on getting your own forum Wyz. ;)
Red Door Sep 27, 2006, 03:01 PM Congragulations on the best Civilization adding mod getting it's own forum.
Drtad Sep 27, 2006, 06:27 PM I was wondering when the best civ maker would get his new forum. Awesome work.:goodjob: I wish I knew how to reskin leaderheads.
Wyz_sub10 Sep 27, 2006, 11:18 PM Thank you for your comments. :)
Re: re-skins - credit to Sevo and Amra for those. I only did 3-4 of the 60+ in the pack.
As for a Warlords release, look to the 2nd week of October if all goes well.
Hitti-Litti Sep 28, 2006, 12:22 PM I loaded the mod, but it was a 7z file, and I have winrar, so is there anywhere a rar version available or can you convert the file somehow?

WinRAR should be able to handle 7z files, but if you are having trouble getting it to open, you can go to:
http://www.7-zip.org/
And dowload the utility to unzip for free.
gidds Sep 28, 2006, 10:27 PM Wyz....Thanks mate, due to the effort of one or two people and Moderator AlanH we can now enjoy your MOD on the MAC version as well....I am pretty sure yours is the first full MOD to run on MAC.
Cheers bud..keep it up!

GarretSidzaka Sep 29, 2006, 01:04 AM Hey Wyz!

strategyonly Sep 29, 2006, 02:39 AM Great MOD, and welcome to the D Community!
Ket Sep 29, 2006, 06:08 AM Wyz:
I assume you spoke with impaler[wrg] about the modular XML loading that he built in so that you can isolate all the new civs and units and such and have them load in just as if they where merged. If not... GET AHOLD OF HIM! :)
Also If you can give me a leader list we can start cracking out "Favorite Religions"

Cool. :goodjob: I love that we're Mac compatible now. Didn't even know that.

I'll do that. A quicker load for Gold would be extremely helpful, especially as more civs are on the way.
Prestidigitator Sep 30, 2006, 02:42 PM About time you get an independent forum guys :goodjob:, keep up the excellent work .
Drtad Oct 02, 2006, 06:12 PM And I have one request Wyz_sub10. When you get your Talaat leaderhead ready, can I use it in my upcoming Armenian Genocide scenario? And make the background for him a mound of skulls.:satan:
Shqype Oct 03, 2006, 07:54 PM Cool that we've got a new forum for CIV Gold. Let's improve it to Warlords compatibility :)
purplexus Oct 05, 2006, 08:19 AM Um i know that sound files are huge but.... They really are cool to have for those who really love to download stuff like me.
So can We get started on adding soundpacks in for civs as well?
There will have to be a standard to this:
----The workers have there own unique selection/order
----The Diplomacy music would have to be unique as well
Now I could help out on this since this is something I enjoy.
I will need 10 recordings of what a unit would say when you select them
I will need 10 Recordings of what a unit would say when you give them an order
also check out my how to: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=168876
Wyz_sub10 Oct 05, 2006, 08:46 AM Hey purplexus. Good to see you here.
cybrxkhan already did the diplomacy music for the civs. You can check it out here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=4599277&postcount=389
But unit sounds still need to be done. Currently, 3.0 inlcudes all the unit sounds I've been able to gather from other packs, but there are a lot to be done.
Joebasalt13 Oct 05, 2006, 05:25 PM When this thing becomes Warlords compatitble it is gonna be awsome I did play CivGold constintly before Warlords came out only 1 game since but when Warlords compatable ehhH!

Cool, thanks! It's getting there. Our core team are all busy guys so we're still inching along - but it is moving forward. I had said 2nd week of October as a release, and I'm confident we'll keep that.
Love Oct 06, 2006, 08:19 AM I cant open the downloaded file, it asking me to open it whith firefox but then firefox asking what i shall do with the file and so on, anyone?
EDIT:
Discovered that its 7z and it dont work... other version than 7z?
Wyz_sub10 Oct 06, 2006, 08:47 AM Download it with Firefox, but don't use Firefix to open it. Just save it.
To open, use either 7-Zip or WinRAR (3.5+). I used 7-Zip 4.32 to create the archive.
Love Oct 09, 2006, 05:49 AM Its not going to open it whith other than firefox, i tryed whith winrar but its not going!

I am a C programmer. I dont know XML or anything, but I do know C.

Just change the file extension from .txt to .ppt and open it with a power-point viewer or power-point. By the way, I made the attached power-point with Microsoft Office XP, just in case the power-point viewers aren't backwards compatible.

davbenbak Jun 23, 2007, 06:08 PM Can't download from your linked site. When I click on download now it opens a pop-up window that tells me I am in que for five minutes and that it will refresh in 1 minute. When it refreshes I don't see any links because the pop-up window is so small and after waiting 30 minutes I gave up. What gives? I would love to try your mod.

I'll take a look at it to see what the problem might be. Do you have a popup blocker?
purplexus Jun 28, 2007, 08:03 PM Happy Birthday To Niknaks
NikNaks Jun 29, 2007, 12:43 AM Er... my birthday is in October, so I assume you're trying to attract my attention...
davbenbak Jun 30, 2007, 07:30 AM I do have pop-up blocker but I allowed pop-up temporarily from this site. The problem is that the pop-up window doesn't have a maximize botton. You could even email me the file as an attachment if that would be possible. I can PM you my email address.
porto_alegre_xP Jun 30, 2007, 11:10 AM looks perfect. i just need to wait more 5 hours to download it. :)

JEELEN Dec 17, 2007, 02:46 AM I've downloaded the Warlords-version, but certain units appear as blobs. (By the way, this forum is rather hard to find...)
Fierabras Dec 17, 2007, 08:05 AM I've downloaded the Warlords-version, but certain units appear as blobs. (By the way, this forum is rather hard to find...)
If you want to play the Warlords version you need the main install http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3271 and the CIV Gold Warlords patch: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=245027
JEELEN Dec 18, 2007, 08:52 AM I've checked, this is what I have installed:
- CIV Gold Warlordsv3
- CG3Warlords213patch.
Fierabras Dec 18, 2007, 08:57 AM So, did you overwrite the XML folder of the CIV Gold Warlords folder with the patch? Can you show me the path of your install?
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods\CIV Gold3
JEELEN Dec 18, 2007, 10:39 AM So, did you overwrite the XML folder of the CIV Gold Warlords folder with the patch? Can you show me the path of your install?
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods\CIV Gold3
Yes to the first and that's how it looks on the second. (I've seen it with some other graphics too - not-CIV Gold-related, that is. Maybe it's just my computer?)
Fierabras Dec 18, 2007, 10:57 AM It seems that you did install everything the right way, but if you see "other graphics" it might be stuff from your My Games\Warlords\CustomAssets folder.
The CIV Gold Warlords version has been thoroughly tested pre- and post-patch and I don't remember seeing any pink blob units.
JEELEN Dec 28, 2007, 01:52 AM I just DL-ed Civ Gold 3.0 Final for BTS. Does this automatically overwrite the beta-version?
I thought I'd pose this question as I get no mention of existing files being overwritten. (BTW I only noticed this update in the "Announce your new/updated files" by accident as I was updating info on my 1790 AD for CIV Gold-scenario...)

Yes, it should overwrite the existing folder, although it's probably best to delete the original.
I announced the final version on this "Status" page and in the Gold thread on the "New Civs" forum. We used the same link as the beta. Sorry for the confusion.
JEELEN Dec 28, 2007, 10:00 AM OK (I guess I missed it) - sorry for bugging you!:mischief:
JEELEN Dec 30, 2007, 05:07 AM  I like the new startscreen!
:newyear:
Sam767 Jan 02, 2008, 01:49 PM This is going to sound dumb, and I admit my n00bishness and take for it full responsibility.
I can load the Mod, but cannot access any new features. When I tried to start a game, it says:
"Tag: LEADER_[NAME] in Info class was incorrect.
Current XML file is: xml/gameinfo/Civ4DiplomacyInfos.xml"
I am assuming I need to manually move some files. Is that correct, or does that just highlight my stupidity? XD
JEELEN Jan 02, 2008, 01:56 PM I think you should post your question in the "Technical support thread" here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=255076
I can't help you, my mod works fine (but maybe Fierabras will read it too and reply).

Gurra09 Jan 09, 2008, 07:38 AM Is Civ Gold available for BtS? And if it is I hope these civilizations are taken away and replaced with the BtS version of them:
Babylon
Khmer
Netherlands
Portugal
Sumer
Gurra09
Fierabras Jan 09, 2008, 08:24 AM Is Civ Gold available for BtS?
Yes, BTS CIV Gold 3.0 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7742) and yes, old versions of civs have been replaced by the Firaxis additions.
Mohatma Jan 14, 2008, 08:23 AM Will some of these flags and buttons be in CIV Gold 4.0? Some of them are much better than in CIV Gold 3.0

Yes they will. As a matter of fact, yenemus is currently working on the flags and buttons for many of the upcoming 4.0 additions.

Good idea.
cfkane Feb 07, 2008, 10:49 PM Okay, I am as lost as hell.
I just downloaded the scenarios for CIV gold, and saved the files to the PublicMaps folder for the CIV Gold mod. Now I can't figure out how to run the scnearios. They don't show up in the "Play a Scenario" menu.
Did I save them to the wrong folder or have I just not been able to find the proper way to run them?

Hi cfkane,
Those weren't put together by the team, but were the result of JEELEN's hard work. You may want to ask about it here:

Drtad Feb 16, 2008, 08:52 PM Hy, Wyz! I haven't been around in quite awhile (I've turned to Total War for the majority of my game playing), and I just wanted to drop in and see how things were going with Civ Gold.:)
(I lost my copy of CIV and Warlords, but I am looking to purchase BTS soon)
Mohatma Feb 27, 2008, 12:42 PM What do you think about making preview images like in Amra's modpack?
Amra Feb 27, 2008, 01:16 PM What do you think about making preview images like in Amra's modpack?Odd that you should mention that. I just offered to do that in a PM to Wyz a couple days ago but he's been a little busy with family matters and finishing up CIV Gold 4.0 to reply yet. Anyway, if he says okay then I would be happy to do it for him as soon as the new version is posted.

And yes, that would be awesome. :D We could make a little PDF manual from it, as well.
We can probably give you access to the current build somehow if you want to take a crack at things.
Amra Feb 27, 2008, 01:55 PM If you've got all the LH art in place then PM me with a link and I can start on the preview images right away.
Drtad Apr 19, 2008, 07:02 PM Didn't knowwhere else to post this, so I'm just going to post it here.
I was able to get BTS yesterday and the first thing I did was fire up a game of my custom Civ Gold/Revolution merged mod, and I just have to say that your work with the civs are just brilliant. Absolutely fantastic. This is the definitive civilization add-on mod, no doubt.
I think I've made my point.:)

I just merged Civ Gold with the Revolution mod. The dynamic revolution action combined with an vast number of new civs makes for a very exciting game.
