Hello,

I am trying to start a game on the huge earth map that comes with Civ3, but when I start the game and choose, say, the Romans, they start at random positions rather than in Italy. Is there a way to ensure civs start where they should?

Thanks,

Rodrigo

Yes, you can download an improved version of the earth map somewhere on this forum/website, where all the starting locations are put in the correct place.

1) Launch the editor.
2) Load the map you want
3) Click "Select overlay" (you have a button next to "select resource", or you can press "O")
4) Select "Player Starting Location"
5) Place it where you want a civ to start
6) Right click that tile, and go to properties.
7) You'll see a greyed text box: Owner: None. Click the Change button next to it.
8) Select the civ that you want to start there
9) Save this map as...
10) Load the new map

10 is about how many clicks you have to do to achieve this. It's very simple. I divided it in 10 steps to make it easier to follow.

Thanks for the very helpful answers, guys!

Since my last post I learned a lot more about the map editor, and I have managed to get starting positions right most of the time. But there is still something wrong with some maps. For example, in the map linked below I have the right location for Rome, and yet it starts elsewhere (in either the Scandinavian or Spanish starting position). I checked details over and over without success. Any hints on this?
