View Full Version : Aztec Victory
crazyjoe0813 Oct 01, 2006, 09:27 AM Well I've played this mod quite a few times and it's awesome... I think the best game I ever played was when I started as the Aztecs. It was tough and I had to give in to the European demands in first contact but I kept plugging along and eventually won a time victory. I had most of North America (The Americans declared war on me so I took half their empire) and most of Austrailia and SE Asia. It was a hard fought game but it was very satisfying to win with a civ that's not one of the easiest to play... Here is a pic of the final screen... Anyone else get a victory with the Aztecs?

Elhoim Oct 03, 2006, 08:53 AM It´s interesting to see how the Spanish did so badly against the Incans...
Congratulations on your victory!
Rhye Oct 03, 2006, 09:33 AM France out of its homeland and not collapsed...interesting
Elhoim Oct 03, 2006, 02:13 PM Why everytime someone captures a city, is it also traded away?
crazyjoe0813 Oct 03, 2006, 02:24 PM I don't know... And Germany asked me to declare war on France right at the end so I had taken the French Carribean and Guianna, as well as working on the rest of their South American colonies... France would have gone down if the game hadn't ended...
Appren Oct 06, 2006, 05:47 AM Playing a Monarch game with the Aztecs now, should be done in a day or two, 50 turns to go and looking good. Bit slow start, as is to be expected with the Aztec start, but big tech lead and my armies are steamrolling now. Will report when the victory is secure :)
Tboy Oct 06, 2006, 10:54 AM Also playing a game as the Aztecs right now, own almost all of North America, no colonies, and massacred the Americans when they spawned :). I'll post again with the results, and it'll probably involve some dead incans...

when I take Britain they dont collapse when they have maney colonies. Takeing the homeland doesnt weaken them as much as it should
Appren Oct 07, 2006, 08:37 AM 30 turns to go, and congress next turn - I expect the unhappiness is going to be EXTREME next turn, as surely everyone will demand a city from me, and then go to war when I refuse. Changing to Police State, else I'm afraid my stupid citizens will starve themselves to death in protest of a century of almost constant warfare. I had exactly one turn of peace before the upcoming congress, but I'm afraid that did little to calm my people :)
edit :
So I got lucky (well, relatively) in the congress, everyone went to war with me after I denied their demands, but Russia was the last to request a city, and since they hadnt declared war on me when I refused the other requests, I gave in to their demand (Cuba), since Russia is the only remaining big nation in that part of the world. (well, everything is relative, they at least have their homeland :p ), the Incas are still strong, but they dont seem to do much offensive action, so I'm not too concerned, all the other nations are strongly decimated, so their war declarations is simply an invitation for me to invade. The Mongols are so far untouched, but technologically backwards, I expect huge stacks of cannons and riflemen hitting my Chinese towns soon though.
Still in anarchy after changing to Police State, hopefully the unhappiness wont be too severe, but I expect I'll have to run 40% culture.
edit2:
Police state did the trick, happiness up to an acceptable level, and culture down to 20% again.
22 turns to go, and only three opponents remaining, Russia (not at war), Mongolia (almost dead), and the Incans, whom sent a couple naval invasions to my capital area, and had me frantically sending reinforcments from nearby city garrisons. They also killed my Pacific Fleet (all 3 ships worth :p ) and pillages every fish on the west coast. Once the Mongolians are down, I shall surely pay a visit to the Incan homelands.
Appren Oct 07, 2006, 06:12 PM Gah, I shoulda started attacking the Russians one turn earlier..they ended up with one city left when the time victory happened. :p

The Incas and the Russians was the last to fall, most of their cities are still in revolt, so no chance of domination win
NitroJay Oct 07, 2006, 10:19 PM That's just plain amazing...
crazyjoe0813 Oct 07, 2006, 10:30 PM Yep, definitely eclipsed anything I did... What difficulty setting?
Appren Oct 08, 2006, 01:35 AM Monarch. Guess I should try Emperor, could be hard to catch up on tech then though.
This game was probably made easier for me by the huge Barbarian conquests in Asia and Europe, China, India, Persia (respawned on me, killed them), Egypt, Arabia (respawned from barbs themselves, lived for centuries after that), Greece (respawned, lived a long time with one city), and Rome all got wiped out. USA respawned once as well, but not for long :p
Russia and Germany fought looooong wars, I think St Petersburg changed hands 7 or 8 times at least, the Germans was finally wiped out sometime in the early 20th century, or late 19th.
I find playing the Aztec and Incans somewhat easier than many of the countries living in more crowded areas, since your homeland is pretty safe, except for minor (two ship max) naval invasions, and a fairly limited barbarian problem. You'll have a HUGE industrial and scientific production with the excellent cities you'll get, I was behind on tech for centuries, but by the time I got Infantry, I was tech lead, and thats when the conquests began. Most of it happening during the last 100 turns or so.
I started by colonizing the central of North America, up north along those mountains (east of them), theres some real nice city spots there, then the west coast, then a few cities down south in Brazil, if you get there before the Europeans. Once America spawns, wipe them out brutally and mercilessly, and capture their nice newlybuilt cities. Probably the English/French/Spanish will have some cities as well, but you'll surely soon enough be in war against then, when you start refusing their congress demands, get the cities then and secure the area.
