Hey!

I have a new laptop and I want to move my saved games along with their info to the new computer. I tried quite a lot of things including moving all the saves from my documents/games into the new folders and over-writing the files but it won't let me load the saves.

How can I do this?

I have a crossover cable, or I can upload, transferring isn't a problem. I already moved the whole civilization IV folder to the new computer so it's transferred. I just need to know which parts to move from the old to the new one. I tried overwriting almost everything aside from the assets and it won't make any difference.

You have applied any patches and/or mods that you were using on the old machine?

Well when I moved the saves into my documents/games/etc. I can now see the saves, but when I try to load them I get this error: Can not load version 103, expected version 100.

I also don't have any add-ons to the game, so it's clean on both ends.

so its vanilla civ - have you done the patches on the new machine?

No, as I said, it's clean on both ends (new and old computers).

are you sure that you were not running civ version 1.61 on the old machine?

Well did anyone find out anything?

In our pbem game, one of our player had a hard drive crash. After reinstalling everything, the turns we get from him now say:

Load Error
Cannot load version 103, expected version 102 or lower

Since there is no ver 103 or 102 patch for civ4 I wonder if the error might be from something else like NET etc.

Version 103 or 102 etc. refer to save versions, not to game versions. Different game patches can sometimes cause a new save version to be necessary, some not; I don't remember the history, but 102 is probably from the second Civ4 patch (1.16?17? somewhere around there) and 103 is the current Civ4 patch (1.61). If you look in the Advanced -> About This Build menu you can see which version and which save version you are currently running.

Are you currently patched up yourself? It sounds to me like someone isn't running the final Civ4 patch version, and if your computer is complaining it's getting a 'later' version save (103) you probably don't have the latest version, would be my first guess (without knowing anything else).

save game version 100 is unpatched civ4, 101 is v1.09, 102 is 1.52, 103 is 1.61 and 200 is warlords (both patched and unpatched)
