Hi, Ive just started playing Civ III (Standard version) in the last month or so, i dont normally play games but a friend gave me it and said I would enjoy playing it, I tried it and yes, Im a bit hooked!!

As it is I downloaded this patch:

Civilization III Patch v1.29f (9.9 MB):

And when I tried to play straight afterwards it wouldnt recognise my CD (it is NOT a copy BTW) even after restarting my PC so I had to copy all my saved games and re-install it, are there any other mods or patches that do this or did I have the wrong patch?

Am not sure! You must use the us patch for the game. If this Civ3 is from usa.

That's usually a problem with pirated editions, or with downloaded editions. (even legally downloaded editions have this problem very often)

This belongs in the Technical Support forum, not bug reports, and there is already a thread for this problem, because it is the most usual problem with Civ3.

And the second link that you posted gives only patches for C3C and PTW, while he has vanilla.

Its a UK version and it is an original, it also has an atari header on the front of the box and underneath the correct pic with original leaflet inside, I will look around to see what other patches there are but to be honest i'm still a bit of a novice at this game and , of course this board and really i wasnt sure what the patch was for as i seem to be playing okay (the only bug i do have is that i cant seem to turn all the animations off, even though i have tried it in the preferences menu, cos when the map is a huge one - OMG they can take there time!!)

There is only an English Patch. It doesn't differentiate between US/Uk.
