View Full Version : Leaving the UN
msw1090 Oct 08, 2006, 05:49 PM Well I was a huge manufacturer of ICBM's until the UN decided to pass a nuclear non-proliferaction bill that now disallows me to make ICBM's. Is there anyway I can break away from the UN so that I can make ICBM's and blow up the world?
Elmorell Oct 08, 2006, 05:57 PM Aside from razing the city it's built in, no. And I don't know if even that would end resolutions already passed.
Oddible Oct 08, 2006, 06:31 PM Ha! The UN resolutions are binding!?! That's nuts! Should have just been like a -8 diplomacy rating from everyone else against you.
ggganz Oct 08, 2006, 07:29 PM No.
xcl..
Thorvald of Lym Oct 08, 2006, 08:47 PM If you could, that would defeat the whole purpose of the UN! And sadly, this isn't the real world.
enchanter100 Oct 08, 2006, 10:02 PM I think that's one thing missing or should be added as an option. A way to opt out of UN decisions for a major negative in diplomacy.. Or an automatic war against you by UN troops for a certain amount of time..
Stylesjl Oct 09, 2006, 12:21 AM I hate it when that happens i can't build nukes and go and blow the planet up.
Best thing is to control the UN by being secretary-general then you can choose what is passed and what is not passed.
Sometimes you can use it to your advantage. You can build a huge stockpile of nukes and then ban them so nobody else can have em!
Metromonkey Oct 09, 2006, 12:46 AM I am unsure if this is possible in Vanilla, because I never tried, but if you click resolutions that have already been voted on you can vote on them again. Of course this requires you to be secretary-general because I have never had an AI revote on the nuke ban.
PraetorianSteve Oct 09, 2006, 02:50 PM I, as the secretary general had a revote on the nukes when I was sure to be able to decide the verdict, and had the ban repealed. Sure came in handy later on! :)

How very American of you.
They should make it possible to opt out of UN resolutions with a diplomatic penalty. They could make sanctions, like if you break a resolution then every nation stops trading resources with you.
tycoonist Oct 09, 2006, 03:45 PM you see if North Korea gives a damn on UN nuke resolution!!
Oddible Oct 09, 2006, 03:50 PM UN Troops!! Ha!
That would be interesting - make every nation contribute funds and troops to the UN and then have the blue helmets sent in by vote to defend borders or something.
Rule Brittania Oct 10, 2006, 04:39 AM UN Troops!! Ha!

And they could split it by how many civs there are so , if there were 11 then you could each control 1/10th of the army to use only on the civ that defied the UN, the 11th one obviosly
blitzkrieg1980 Oct 10, 2006, 09:20 AM I think it would be awesome to employ these ideas, however very hard to implement. I think the automatic war or trade sanctions would work better if you go against the UN.
The blue helmets are generally peace keepers, so they wouldn't really be sent in to attack a civ who isn't following the UN (EDIT: not that the blue helmets were implied to be attackers on this thread). That would be left to the individual civs.
I like these ideas in general tho.
