All asian civs except the mongolian have only leaders with the protective trait in Warlords. In my experience this trait is almost useless in comparation to all better traits! Anyone agree?

I never played as any of them anyway so I wouldn't know. But maybe this is historically accurate?

A bit, but not in the industrial era and forward!

Mao is the only modern leader and he was protective. No?

Was he? Anybody sure on this?

Asian nerfing is annoying and historically inaccurate, but the protective trait ain't so bad. Made for really mean gunpowder and archers. Their cities, especially if walled, are virtually impregnable.

Oh yeah, Mao is protective

For a peacemonger all asians are practically useless... even the mongolian! I'll rather build wonders and earn money than defend!

See that swedishguy mentions that the mongols doesn't have any protective trait!

There was a long thread on this subject in the past. It seems to be least appopriate for Qin and Mao. I hate the Protective trait and the only ruler I have played with it is Wang Kon because I figured Financial balanced out the worthlessness of Protective.

Clever! Were you meaning the new combinations in next expansion thread?

I quite like protective. It is odd that all the Asian leaders are protective, but, it works *great* in synergy with Wang Kon's more builder-esque disposition, and the aggressive/protective combo is freaking nasty for Tokes when he starts getting gunpowder units. Three upgrades free out the gate...

I don't see this as a nerf across the board, though Qin definetly didn't benefit.

Xanikk999 if you liked the Ind Fin combo play as HC, he has the same traits

Why is it that "Asian" = China, Korea, Japan, and Mongolia?

Whatever happened to India, Ottoman, Arabia, Russia, Persia?

Actually, by Asain he means Far East.

And is Russia technically Asian or European? Both I suppose.

I'm insane. as protective civ, build archers, declare war, go fortify them next to AI cities. You need more than one.

If you play Always War setting, protective is the BEST trait to have. What's not to like about Drill IV crossbows/chokonus if you play as Tokogawa/Qin.

the protective trait is very VERY nice when it matches with the chokonus. they start with 2-3 first strikes, and the drill adds even more, and ontop of that collateral damage ability, it just rules.

Well, Mongolians were a caucausian people. Only after a couple hundred years where each Mongol raided into china and took home a half dozen "wives" did the blood change toward the oriental. :)

So, if this discussion is about Orientals and thereby we exclude Mongolians (as well as Indians, Arabians, Ottomans, Russians, and Persians), then yes every single one of them has Protective. Frankly, it doesn't bother me. Probably as much a coincidence as any outright design goal.

True, but when people say asian they usually mean the far east.
