So.. we've had a few prediction leagues in the past, but this year no one decided to put one up. Did we all get tired after the World Cup? Possibly, but in case not, we could of course do one for the Championsleague as usual, and maybe one for the UEFA Cup, since that one is in fact in my opinion harder to predict?

So if anyone is interested, I can use the standard spreadsheet we always used, I think made by Dell19, and convert it to this season.

Almost everyone had at least one completely correct score. Berrie and Dell19 even had both games in one single group exactly right, being group E (Basel - Feyenoord and Wisla - Blackburn). The best scoring group was the same group E with a grand total of 37 points scored (10+10+9+4+4), followed by Group G and H with 28 and 26 points. Lowest scoring was, by far, group A with a total of 8 lousy points scored.

So, this was a pretty tight round. Almost everyone got the same number of points, although the matches each got them from was pretty different. Dell19 was probably the most stable on the scale, with 6 points from 5 of the 8 groups. Berrie and I, and to a lesser extend MCdread, did it with highs and lows. This round I was the only one to get a group intirely right (Group A and B), but once again almost everyone had at least one match entirely correct.

My predictions were very mediocre. :( I only managed to get 10 of the 16 teams correct to progress and not even one correct match score. Goals in the 90th minute scuppered me on more than one occasion. :mad:

My reasoning was this. It seems AZ always scores a lot of goals and they seem often involved in spectacular matches. And I saw Newcastle play against Zulte-Waregem: strong up front but very weak in the back. They have strong defenders but without any skill. So I guessed it would be a match with lots of goals. That I predicted the exact score was dumb luck
